< Proverbs 5 >

1 My son, attend to my wisdom. And bow thine ear to my understanding;
Mũrũ wakwa, thikĩrĩria ũũgĩ ũyũ wakwa, tega gũtũ wega ũigue ciugo ciakwa cia ũtaũku,
2 That thou mayest keep discretion, And that thy lips may preserve knowledge!
nĩguo ũtũũrie ũbaarĩrĩri, nayo mĩromo yaku ĩtũũrie ũmenyo.
3 Truly, the lips of a strange woman drop honey, And her mouth is smoother than oil;
Nĩgũkorwo mĩromo ya mũtumia mũtharia itaataga ũũkĩ, na mĩario yake ĩnyorokete gũkĩra maguta;
4 But her end is bitter as wormwood, Sharp as a two-edged sword.
no marigĩrĩrio nĩmũrũrũ ta maaĩ ma nyongo, nĩ mũũgĩ ta rũhiũ rwa njora rũrĩa rũũgĩ mbarĩ cierĩ.
5 Her feet go down to death; Her steps lay hold of the under-world. (Sheol h7585)
Magũrũ make maikũrũkaga gĩkuũ-inĩ; makinya make mathiiaga merekeire o mbĩrĩra. (Sheol h7585)
6 That she may not ponder the way of life, Her paths waver when she heedeth it not.
Ndeciiragia ũhoro wa njĩra ya muoyo; njĩra ciake nĩ njogomu, nowe ndooĩ ũguo.
7 Hear me now, therefore, O children! And turn not away from the words of my mouth!
Atĩrĩrĩ, ariũ akwa, ta thikĩrĩriai; mũtikanatiganĩrie ũrĩa ngũmwĩra.
8 Remove thy way far from her. And come not nigh the door of her house:
Thiiagĩrai njĩra ĩrĩ kũraya nake, mũtigakuhĩrĩrie mũrango wa nyũmba yake,
9 Lest thou give thy bloom to others, And thy years to a cruel one;
nĩguo mũtikaheane hinya wanyu mwega kũrĩ andũ angĩ, na mĩaka yanyu kũrĩ mũndũ ũtarĩ tha,
10 Lest strangers be filled with thy wealth, And thine earnings be in the house of an alien;
nĩguo ageni matikehũũnie na ũtonga wanyu, na kĩrĩa ũnogeire gĩtongie mũciĩ wa mũndũ wa kũngĩ.
11 And lest thou mourn in thy latter end. When thy flesh and thy body are consumed,
Marigĩrĩrio-inĩ ma muoyo waku nĩũgacaaya, hĩndĩ ĩrĩa nyama cia mwĩrĩ waku na mwĩrĩ waku igaakorwo ithirĩte hinya.
12 And say, “How have I hated instruction! And how hath my heart despised reproof!
Ũkoiga atĩrĩ, “Hĩ, kaĩ nĩndathũũrire gũtaarwo-ĩ! Hĩ, kaĩ ngoro yakwa nĩyamenete kũrũithio-ĩ!
13 I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, Nor inclined mine ear to my instructors;
Ndingĩathĩkĩire arutani akwa, kana thikĩrĩrie ataarani akwa.
14 I have well-nigh fallen into utter misery; In the midst of the congregation and the assembly.”
Nĩnginyĩte hũgũrũrũ-inĩ cia mwanangĩko, ndĩ o gatagatĩ-inĩ ga kĩũngano gĩothe.”
15 Drink water out of thine own cistern. And running water out of thine own well:
Atĩrĩrĩ, nyuuaga maaĩ ma itangi rĩaku we mwene, maaĩ marĩa mathereraga moimĩte gĩthima-inĩ gĩaku mwene.
16 So shall thy fountains overflow in the streets, In the wide streets, as streams of water;
Nĩ kwagĩrĩire ithima ciaku ciunagĩre maaĩ barabara-inĩ, kana tũrũũĩ twaku tuunagĩre ihaaro-inĩ cia mũingĩ?
17 They shall belong to thee alone, And not to strangers with thee;
Nĩmagĩtũũre marĩ maku wiki, matigatuĩke maku na mũndũ wa kũngĩ o na rĩ.
18 And thy fountain shall be blessed, Yea, thou shalt have joy in the wife of thy youth.
Gĩthima gĩaku kĩrorathimwo, nawe ũkenagĩre mũtumia wa ũnini waku.
19 A lovely hind, a graceful doe, Her breasts shall satisfy thee at all times, And thou shalt be always ravished with her love.
Athakarĩte ta thwariga ya mũgoma, akaagĩra ta gathiiya ka mũgoma: kĩiganagwo nĩ nyondo ciake hĩndĩ ciothe, ũkenagio nĩ wendo wake hĩndĩ ciothe.
20 Why, then, my son, wilt thou be ravished with a wanton, And embrace the bosom of a stranger?
Mũrũ wakwa, nĩ kĩĩ kĩngĩtũma ũkenio nĩ mũtumia mũtharia? Nĩ kĩĩ kĩngĩtũma ũhĩmbĩrie gĩthũri kĩa mũtumia wa mũndũ ũngĩ?
21 For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, And he weigheth well all his paths.
Nĩgũkorwo mĩthiĩre ya mũndũ nĩyonagwo nĩ Jehova, nake nĩatuĩragia njĩra ciake ciothe.
22 His own iniquities shall ensnare the wicked; Yea, he shall be held fast by the cords of his own sins.
Ciĩko njũru cia mũndũ mwaganu nĩcio imũtegaga; nga cia mehia make nĩcio imuohaga, ikamũrũmia biũ.
23 He shall die for want of instruction; Yea, through the greatness of his folly he shall stagger.
Mũndũ ũcio nĩagaakua nĩ kwaga ũtaaro, akoora nĩ ũndũ wa ũrimũ wake mũnene.
