Proverbs 4
1 Hear, ye children, the instruction of a father, And attend, that ye may learn understanding!
Fils, écoutez l’instruction d’un père et soyez attentifs pour connaître l’intelligence;
2 For I give you good instruction; Forsake ye not my commandments.
car je vous donne une bonne doctrine: n’abandonnez pas mon enseignement.
3 For I was my father's son, A tender and only child in the sight of my mother.
Car j’ai été un fils pour mon père, tendre et unique auprès de ma mère.
4 He taught me, and said to me, Let thy heart hold fast my words; Keep my commandments, and live.
Il m’a enseigné et m’a dit: Que ton cœur retienne mes paroles; garde mes commandements, et tu vivras.
5 Get wisdom, get understanding; Forget not, and depart not from, the words of my mouth.
Acquiers la sagesse, acquiers l’intelligence; ne [l’]oublie pas, et ne te détourne pas des paroles de ma bouche.
6 Forsake her not, and she will guard thee: Love her, and she will preserve thee.
Ne l’abandonne pas, et elle te gardera; aime-la, et elle te conservera.
7 Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore gain wisdom, And with all thy gain, gain understanding.
Le commencement de la sagesse, c’est: Acquiers la sagesse, et, au prix de toutes tes acquisitions, acquiers l’intelligence.
8 Exalt her, and she will promote thee; She will bring thee to honor, when thou dost embrace her;
Exalte-la, et elle t’élèvera; elle t’honorera quand tu l’auras embrassée.
9 She will give to thy head a graceful wreath, A beautiful crown will she bestow upon thee.
Elle mettra sur ta tête une guirlande de grâce, elle te donnera une couronne de gloire.
10 Hear, O my son! and receive my sayings! So shall the years of thy life be many.
Écoute, mon fils, et reçois mes paroles, et les années de ta vie te seront multipliées.
11 I have taught thee the way of wisdom, I have guided thee in the right path.
Je t’enseignerai la voie de la sagesse, je te dirigerai dans les chemins de la droiture.
12 When thou goest, thy steps shall not be confined; And, when thou runnest, thou shalt not stumble.
Quand tu marcheras, tes pas ne seront pas gênés, et si tu cours, tu ne broncheras pas.
13 Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go; Keep her, for she is thy life.
Tiens ferme l’instruction, ne la lâche pas; garde-la, car elle est ta vie.
14 Enter not into the path of the wicked, And go not in the way of evil men;
N’entre pas dans le sentier des méchants, et ne marche pas dans la voie des iniques.
15 Avoid it, pass not upon it, Turn from it, and go away.
Éloigne-t’en, n’y passe point; détourne-t’en, et passe outre.
16 For they sleep not, unless they have done mischief; Yea, their sleep is taken away, unless they have caused some to fall.
Car ils ne dormiraient pas s’ils n’avaient fait du mal, et le sommeil leur serait ôté s’ils n’avaient fait trébucher [quelqu’un];
17 For they eat the bread of wickedness, And drink the wine of violence.
car ils mangent le pain de méchanceté, et ils boivent le vin des violences.
18 But the path of the righteous is as the light of dawn, Which groweth brighter and brighter unto the perfect day.
Mais le sentier des justes est comme la lumière resplendissante qui va croissant jusqu’à ce que le plein jour soit établi.
19 The way of the wicked is as thick darkness; They know not at what they stumble.
Le chemin des méchants est comme l’obscurité; ils ne savent contre quoi ils trébucheront.
20 My son, attend to my words; Incline thine ear to my sayings;
Mon fils, sois attentif à mes paroles, incline ton oreille à mes discours.
21 Let them not depart from thine eyes; Keep them in the midst of thy heart!
Qu’ils ne s’éloignent point de tes yeux; garde-les au-dedans de ton cœur;
22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh.
car ils sont la vie de ceux qui les trouvent, et la santé de toute leur chair.
23 More than any thing which thou watchest, watch thy heart; For from it goeth forth life.
Garde ton cœur plus que tout ce que l’on garde, car de lui sont les issues de la vie.
24 Put away from thee a deceitful mouth, And remove far from thee perverse lips.
Écarte de toi la fausseté de la bouche, et éloigne de toi la perversité des lèvres.
25 Let thine eyes look straight forward, And thine eyelids be directed before thee.
Que tes yeux regardent droit en avant, et que tes paupières se dirigent droit devant toi.
26 Give heed to the path of thy foot, And let all thy ways be steadfast.
Pèse le chemin de tes pieds, et que toutes tes voies soient bien réglées.
27 Turn not to the right hand or to the left; Remove thy foot from evil.
N’incline ni à droite ni à gauche; éloigne ton pied du mal.
