Proverbs 31
1 The words given to King Lemuel; the prophecy which his mother taught him.
レムエル王のことば即ちその母の彼に敎へし箴言なり
2 What, O my son! and what, O son of my womb! Yea, what, O son of my vows! [[shall I say to thee?]]
わが子よ何を言んか わが胎の子よ何をいはんか 我が願ひて得たる子よ何をいはんか
3 Give not thy strength to women, Nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings!
なんぢの力を女につひやすなかれ 王を滅すものに汝の途をまかする勿れ
4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel! It is not for kings to drink wine, Nor for princes to desire strong drink;
レムエルよ酒を飮は王の爲べき事に非ず 王の爲べき事にあらず 醇醪を求むるは牧伯の爲すべき事にあらず
5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, And pervert the rights of any of the afflicted.
恐くは酒を飮て律法をわすれ 且すべて惱まさるる者の審判を枉げん
6 Give strong drink to him who is ready to perish, And wine to him that hath a heavy heart;
醇醪を亡びんとする者にあたへ 酒を心の傷める者にあたへよ
7 Let him drink and forget his poverty, And remember his misery no more!
かれ飮てその貧窮をわすれ 復その苦楚を憶はざるべし
8 Open thy mouth for the dumb, In the cause of every orphan!
なんぢ瘖者のため又すべての孤者の訟のために口をひらけ
9 Open thy mouth, judge righteously, And maintain the cause of the poor and needy!
なんぢ口をひらきて義しき審判をなし貧者と窮乏者の訟を糺せ
10 Who can find a capable woman? Her worth is far above pearls.
誰か賢き女を見出すことを得ん その價は眞珠よりも貴とし
11 The heart of her husband trusteth in her, And he is in no want of gain.
その夫の心は彼を恃み その產業は乏しくならじ
12 She doeth him good, and not evil, All the days of her life.
彼が存命ふる間はその夫に善事をなして惡き事をなさず
13 She seeketh wool and flax, And worketh willingly with her hands.
彼は羊の毛と麻とを求め喜びて手から操き
14 She is like the merchants' ships; She bringeth her food from afar.
商賈の舟のごとく遠き國よりその糧を運び
15 She riseth while it is yet night, And giveth food to her family, And a task to her maidens.
夜のあけぬ先に起てその家人に糧をあたへ その婢女に日用の分をあたふ
16 She layeth a plan for a field, and buyeth it; With the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.
田畝をはかりて之を買ひ その手の操作をもて葡萄園を植ゑ
17 She girdeth her loins with strength, And maketh strong her arms.
力をもて腰に帶し その手を強くす
18 She perceiveth how pleasant is her gain, And her lamp is not extinguished in the night.
彼はその利潤の益あるを知る その燈火は終夜きえず
19 She putteth forth her hands to the distaff, And her hands take hold of the spindle.
かれ手を紡線車にのべ その指に紡錘をとり
20 She spreadeth out her hand to the poor, Yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
手を貧者にのべ 手を困苦者に舒ぶ
21 She hath no fear for her household on account of the snow, For all her household are clothed with crimson.
彼は家人の爲に雪をおそれず 蓋その家人みな蕃紅の衣をきればなり
22 She maketh for herself coverlets; Her clothing is of fine linen and purple.
彼はおのれの爲に美しき褥子をつくり 細布と紫とをもてその衣とせり
23 Her husband is known in the gates, When he sitteth with the elders of the land.
その夫はその地の長老とともに邑の門に坐するによりて人に知るるなり
24 She maketh linen garments and selleth them, And delivereth girdles to the merchant.
彼は細布の衣を製りてこれをうり 帶をつくりて商賈にあたふ
25 Strength and honor are her clothing; And she laugheth at the days to come.
彼は筋力と尊貴とを衣とし且のちの日を笑ふ
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom, And kind instruction is upon her tongue.
彼は口を啓きて智慧をのぶ 仁愛の敎誨その舌にあり
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, And eateth not the bread of idleness.
かれはその家の事を鑒み 怠惰の糧を食はず
28 Her children rise up, and extol her; Her husband, and praiseth her, [[saving, ]]
その衆子は起て彼を祝す その夫も彼を讃ていふ
29 “Many daughters have done, virtuously, But thou excellest them all.”
賢く事をなす女子は多けれども 汝はすべての女子に愈れり
30 Grace is deceitful, and beauty vain; But the woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.
艶麗はいつはりなり 美色は呼吸のごとし 惟ヱホバを畏るる女は譽られん
31 Give ye her of the fruit of her hands, And let her works praise her in the gates.
その手の操作の果をこれにあたへ その行爲によりてこれを邑の門にほめよ
