Proverbs 29
1 He who, being often reproved, hardeneth his neck, Shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
Người cứng lòng cứng cổ trước lời răn dạy sẽ suy sụp thình lình không phương chữa chạy.
2 When the righteous are powerful, the people rejoice; But when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
Người liêm chính cai trị, dân chúng hân hoan. Nhưng người ác nắm quyền, dân chúng lầm than.
3 He who loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father; But he who is a companion of harlots destroyeth his substance.
Con khôn ngoan khiến cha vui lòng, người nuôi gái điếm phá hoại gia phong.
4 A king by equity establisheth a land; But he who receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
Vua công minh, nước cường thịnh, vua tham nhũng, nước mạt vận.
5 A man who flattereth his neighbor Spreadeth a net for his feet.
Ai nịnh bợ hàng xóm láng giềng, là giăng lưới dưới chân.
6 In the transgression of a wicked man there is a snare; But the righteous shall sing and rejoice.
Người ác bị tội mình sập bẫy, nhưng người ngay ca hát vui mừng.
7 A righteous man careth for the cause of the poor; A wicked man discerneth not knowledge.
Người ngay tôn trọng quyền lợi của người nghèo khó; còn người ác chẳng biết đến quyền lợi đó.
8 Scoffers kindle a city into a flame; But wise men pacify wrath.
Người kiêu cường khua mép làm cả thành náo động xôn xao, người khôn ngoan làm lắng dịu cơn thịnh nộ cuồng bạo.
9 If a wise man contend in a cause with a fool, Whether he rage or laugh, there will be no rest.
Người khôn chẳng cần tranh luận với kẻ dại dột, vì nó sẽ nổi giận, hoặc cười ngạo nghễ không thôi.
10 The bloodthirsty man hateth the upright; But the righteous seek to preserve his life.
Người trọn vẹn bị bọn khát máu ghen ghét, nhưng được người công chính quý chuộng.
11 A fool letteth all his anger come out; But a wise man keepeth it back.
Người dại để cơn giận mình bùng nổ, nhưng người khôn chế ngự nó.
12 If a ruler listen to words of falsehood, All his servants become wicked.
Nếu vua nghe lời giả dối, dối gạt, bầy tôi người chỉ là phường gian ác.
13 The poor man and the oppressor meet together: The LORD giveth light to the eyes of them both.
Người nghèo và người giàu đều giống nhau ở điểm này: Chúa Hằng Hữu cho ánh sáng để thấy.
14 The king that judgeth the poor with uprightness, His throne shall be established for ever.
Vua nào xử công minh cho người nghèo nàn, sẽ được tồn tại với năm tháng.
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom; But a child left to himself bringeth shame to his mother.
Giáo huấn, đòn vọt rèn luyện trẻ thơ, đứa trẻ phóng túng làm nhục mẹ nó.
16 When the wicked are powerful, transgression increaseth; But the righteous shall see their fall.
Số người ác càng nhiều, tội phạm càng gia tăng, nhưng người công chính sẽ chứng kiến cảnh chúng suy tàn.
17 Chastise thy son, and he will give thee rest; Yea, he will give delight to thy soul.
Muốn hưởng hạnh phước và tâm hồn được an tịnh, hãy sửa phạt con mình.
18 Where there is no vision, the people become unruly; But he that keepeth the law, happy is he.
Nước nào không được Chúa hướng dẫn sẽ bị xáo trộn. Quốc gia nào theo luật lệ Chúa, hạnh phước trường tồn.
19 A servant will not be corrected by words; For, though he understand, he will not obey.
Lời nói suông không đủ điều khiển người giúp việc, vì dù hiểu biết, chưa chắc họ đã lưu tâm.
20 Seest thou a man hasty in his words? There is more hope of a fool than of him.
Con có thấy người nói quá hấp tấp? Người ngu đần còn khá hơn người nói hấp tấp.
21 He that bringeth up his servant delicately from childhood Shall have him become a son at the last.
Nếu nuông chiều người giúp việc từ thuở bé, lớn lên nó sẽ đòi được kể như người thừa kế.
22 An angry man stirreth up strife, And a passionate man aboundeth in transgression.
Người dễ giận suốt ngày gây gổ; người nóng tính lầm lỗi liên miên.
23 A man's pride will bring him low; But he that is of a humble spirit shall obtain honor.
Tính kiêu căng đưa người xuống dốc, lòng khiêm tốn đem lại vinh dự.
24 He who shareth with a thief hateth himself: He heareth the curse, but maketh no discovery.
Người đồng lõa với kẻ trộm, là gây hại cho bản thân. Dù đã thề trước tòa, mà ngậm miệng không tố giác,
25 The fear of man bringeth a snare; But whoso putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
Lo sợ người phàm là một cạm bẫy, tin cậy Chúa sẽ được an toàn.
26 Many are they who seek the ruler's favor; But every man's judgment cometh from the LORD.
Muốn công lý, cầu xin Chúa Hằng Hữu, đừng mong tìm ân huệ của hoàng gia.
27 As the unjust man is an abomination to the righteous, So the upright in his way is an abomination to the wicked.
Người ngay ghét việc gian tà; người gian ghen ghét việc làm của người ngay.
