< Proverbs 24 >
1 Be not thou envious of wicked men, And desire not to be with them!
なんぢ惡き人を羨むことなかれ 又これと偕に居らんことを願ふなかれ
2 For their heart studieth destruction, And their lips speak mischief.
そはその心に暴虐をはかり その口唇に人を害ふことをいへばなり
3 Through wisdom is a house builded, And by understanding is it established;
家は智慧によりて建られ 明哲によりて堅くせられ
4 Yea, by knowledge are the chambers filled With all precious and goodly substance.
また室は知識によりて各種の貴く美しき寳にて充されん
5 The wise man is strong; Yea, the man of understanding establisheth his strength.
智慧ある者は強し 知識ある人は力をます
6 For by wise counsel shalt thou make war, And by the multitude of counsellors cometh success.
汝よき謀計をもて戦闘をなせ 勝利は議者の多きによる
7 Wisdom is too high for the fool; He openeth not his mouth at the gate.
智慧は高くして愚なる者の及ぶところにあらず 愚なる者は門にて口を啓くことをえず
8 He that deviseth to do evil Shall be called mischief-master.
惡をなさんと謀る者を邪曲なる者と稱ふ
9 The purpose of folly is sin; And a scoffer is an abomination to men.
愚なる者の謀るところは罪なり 嘲笑者は人に憎まる
10 If thy spirit faint in the day of adversity, Faint will be thy strength.
汝もし患難の日に氣を挫かば汝の力は弱し
11 Deliver thou those who are dragged to death, And those who totter to the slaughter, —O keep them back!
なんぢ死地に曳れゆく者を拯へ 滅亡によろめきゆく者をすくはざる勿れ
12 If thou sayst, “Behold, we knew it not!” Doth not he that weigheth the heart observe it? Yea, he that keepeth thy soul knoweth it. And he will render to every man according to his works.
汝われら之を知らずといふとも心をはかる者これを暁らざらんや 汝の霊魂をまもる者これを知ざらんや 彼は聲のおのおのの行爲によりて人に報ゆべし
13 Eat honey, my son, for it is good, And the honeycomb, which is sweet to thy taste;
わが子よ蜜を食へ 是は美ものなり また蜂のすの滴瀝を食へ 是はなんぢの口に甘し
14 So learn thou wisdom for thy soul! When thou hast found it, there shall be a reward, And thy expectation shall not be cut off.
智慧の汝の霊魂におけるも是の如しと知れ これを得ばかならず報いありて汝の望すたれじ
15 Plot not, O wicked man! against the habitation of the righteous; Spoil not his resting-place!
惡者よ義者の家を窺ふことなかれ その安居所を攻ること勿れ
16 For though the righteous fall seven times, yet shall he rise up again; But the wicked shall fall into mischief.
そは義者は七次たふるるともまた起く されど惡者は禍災によりて亡ぶ
17 Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, And let not thy heart be glad when he stumbleth;
汝の仇たふるるとき樂しむこと勿れ 彼の亡ぶるときこころに喜ぶことなかれ
18 Lest the LORD see, and it displease him, And he turn away his anger from him.
恐くはヱホバこれを見て惡しとし その震怒を彼より離れしめたまはん
19 Fret not thyself on account of evil men, Neither be thou envious of the wicked;
なんぢ惡者を怒ることなかれ 邪曲なる者を羨むなかれ
20 For there shall be no posterity to the evil man; The lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
それ惡者には後の善賚なし 邪曲なる爲の燈火は滅されん
21 My son, fear thou the LORD and the king; And mingle not with them that are given to change!
わが子よヱホバと王とを畏れよ 叛逆者に交ること勿れ
22 For their calamity shall rise up suddenly, And their ruin, coming from them both, in a moment.
斯るものらの災渦は速におこる この兩者の滅亡はたれか知えんや
23 These also are words of the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
是等もまた智慧ある者の箴言なり 偏り鞫するは善らず
24 He that saith to the wicked, “Thou art righteous,” Him shall the people curse; Nations shall abhor him.
罪人に告て汝は義しといふものをは衆人これを詛ひ諸民これを惡まん
25 But it shall be well with them that punish him, And the blessing of prosperity shall come upon them.
これを譴る者は恩をえん また福祉これにきたるべし
26 He that giveth a right answer Kisseth the lips.
ほどよき應答をなす者は口唇に接吻するなり
27 Arrange thy work without, And prepare it in thy field: Afterwards thou mayst build thy house.
外にて汝の工をととのへ田圃にてこれを自己のためにそなへ 然るのち汝の家を建よ
28 Be not a witness without cause against thy neighbor, And deceive not with thy lips.
故なく汝の鄰に敵して證することなかれ 汝なんぞ口唇をもて欺くべけんや
29 Say not, “As he hath done to me, So will I do to him; I will render to the man according to his doings.”
彼の我に爲しし如く我も亦かれになすべし われ人の爲ししところに循ひてこれに報いんといふこと勿れ
30 I passed by the field of the slothful, And by the vineyard of the man void of understanding,
われ曾て惰人の田圃と智慧なき人の葡萄園とをすぎて見しに
31 And, lo! it was all overgrown with thorns, And the face thereof was covered with nettles, And the stone wall thereof was broken down.
荊棘あまねく生え薊その地面を掩ひ その石垣くづれゐたり
32 Then I saw, and considered it well; I looked upon it. and received instruction.
我これをみて心をとどめこれを観て教をえたり
33 “A little sleep, a little slumber! A little folding of the hands to rest!”
しばらく臥し 暫らく睡り 手を叉きて又しばらく休む
34 So shall poverty come upon thee like a highwayman; Yea, want like an armed man.
さらば汝の貧窮は盗人のごとく汝の欠乏は兵士の如くきたるべし
