Proverbs 18
1 He who separateth himself seeketh his own desire; Against all sound discretion he rusheth on.
Um homem que se isola persegue o egoísmo, e desafia todo julgamento sadio.
2 The fool hath no delight in understanding, But rather in revealing his own mind.
Um tolo não tem prazer em entender, mas somente ao revelar sua própria opinião.
3 When the wicked cometh, then cometh also contempt; And with baseness, shame.
Quando a maldade vem, o desprezo também vem, e com vergonha vem a desgraça.
4 The words of a man's mouth are deep waters, And the wellspring of wisdom is an overflowing brook.
As palavras da boca de um homem são como águas profundas. A fonte da sabedoria é como um riacho que flui.
5 It is not good to be partial to the wicked, So as to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
Ser parcial para as faces dos ímpios não é bom, nem para privar os inocentes da justiça.
6 The lips of a fool enter into strife, And his mouth calleth for blows.
Os lábios de um tolo entram em contenda, e sua boca convida a espancamentos.
7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, And his lips are a snare for his life.
A boca de um tolo é sua destruição, e seus lábios são um laço para sua alma.
8 The words of a talebearer are like sweet morsels; For they go down to the innermost parts of the body.
As palavras de um fofoqueiro são como bocadinhos de pano: eles descem para as partes mais íntimas de uma pessoa.
9 Moreover, he that is slothful in his work Is brother to him that is a great waster.
Aquele que é frouxo em seu trabalho é irmão daquele que é um mestre da destruição.
10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower; The righteous runneth to it, and is safe.
O nome de Yahweh é uma torre forte: os justos correm para ele, e estão seguros.
11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, And as a high wall, in his own conceit.
A riqueza do homem rico é sua cidade forte, como uma muralha inescalável em sua própria imaginação.
12 Before destruction the heart of a man is haughty, And before honor is humility.
Antes da destruição, o coração do homem está orgulhoso, mas diante da honra está a humildade.
13 He who answereth a matter before he hath heard it, It is folly and shame to him.
Aquele que responde antes de ouvir, isso é loucura e vergonha para ele.
14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; But a wounded spirit who can bear?
O espírito de um homem o sustentará na enfermidade, mas um espírito esmagado, quem pode suportar?
15 The heart of the intelligent will acquire knowledge, And the ear of the wise will seek knowledge.
O coração do discernimento adquire conhecimento. O ouvido do sábio procura o conhecimento.
16 A gift maketh room for a man, And bringeth him into the presence of the great.
O presente de um homem abre espaço para ele, e o traz diante de grandes homens.
17 He that first pleadeth his cause appeareth just; But his opponent cometh, and searcheth him through.
Aquele que pleiteia sua causa primeiro parece certo até que outro venha e o interrogue.
18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, And parteth asunder the mighty.
O lote resolve disputas, e mantém os fortes separados.
19 A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city; Yea, their contentions are like the bars of a castle.
Um irmão ofendido é mais difícil do que uma cidade fortificada. As disputas são como as barras de uma fortaleza.
20 With the fruit of a man's mouth shall his stomach be filled; He shall be filled with the produce of his lips.
O estômago de um homem é preenchido com o fruto de sua boca. Com a colheita de seus lábios, ele está satisfeito.
21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; They that love it shall eat its fruit.
A morte e a vida estão no poder da língua; aqueles que a amam comerão seus frutos.
22 He that findeth a wife findeth a blessing, And obtaineth favor from the LORD.
Whoever encontra uma esposa encontra uma coisa boa, e obtém o favor de Yahweh.
23 The poor useth entreaties; But the rich answereth roughly.
Os pobres imploram por misericórdia, mas a rica resposta é dura.
24 A man of many friends will show himself false; Yet there is a friend who sticketh closer than a brother.
Um homem de muitos companheiros pode estar arruinado, mas há um amigo que se aproxima mais do que um irmão.
