Proverbs 15
1 A soft answer turneth away wrath; But harsh words stir up anger.
Jawaban yang lemah lembut meredakan amarah tetapi perkataan yang kasar menggusarkan.
2 The tongue of the wise maketh knowledge pleasing; But the mouth of fools poureth forth folly.
Ucapan orang bijak mencerminkan pengetahuan. Perkataan orang bebal memancarkan kebodohan.
3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place; They behold the evil and the good.
TUHAN melihat segala yang terjadi di setiap tempat. Dia mengamati perbuatan orang baik dan orang jahat.
4 A mild tongue is a tree of life; But perverseness therein is a wound in the spirit.
Perkataan yang lemah lembut menghidupkan. Perkataan yang kejam menghancurkan.
5 The fool despiseth the correction of his father; But he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
Orang bebal meremehkan didikan ayahnya. Mau menerima teguran adalah ciri orang bijak.
6 In the house of the righteous is much wealth; But in the revenues of the wicked there is trouble.
Rumah orang benar berlimpah dengan barang berharga, tetapi pendapatan orang jahat menimbulkan masalah.
7 The lips of the wise spread abroad knowledge; But the heart of the foolish is not sound.
Perkataan orang bijak membagikan pengetahuan, sedangkan orang bebal tidak punya apa pun untuk dibagi.
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD; But the prayer of the righteous is his delight.
Orang yang tulus, doanya menyenangkan hati TUHAN, tetapi orang yang jahat, bahkan persembahannya pun najis di mata TUHAN.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD; But him who followeth after righteousness he loveth.
TUHAN membenci cara hidup orang jahat, tetapi mengasihi orang yang senantiasa berusaha hidup benar.
10 Sore chastisement shall be to him that forsaketh the way; He that hateth reproof shall die.
Hukuman berat diberikan kepada orang yang meninggalkan jalan yang benar, dan siapa membenci teguran akan binasa.
11 The underworld, yea, the region of death, is before the LORD; How much more the hearts of the sons of men! (Sheol h7585)
Dasar jurang kematian pun terlihat jelas di mata TUHAN, terlebih lagi isi hati manusia. (Sheol h7585)
12 The scoffer loveth not his reprover; He will not resort to the wise.
Orang yang suka meremehkan tidak senang ditegur. Dia tak akan meminta nasihat dari orang bijak.
13 A joyous heart maketh a bright countenance; But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
Hati yang gembira membuat wajah ceria, tetapi hati yang sedih mematahkan semangat.
14 The heart of the man of understanding seeketh knowledge; But the mouth of fools feedeth on folly.
Orang bijak selalu haus akan pengetahuan, tetapi orang bebal terus mengisi dirinya dengan hal-hal bodoh.
15 The days of the afflicted are all evil; But he that hath a cheerful heart hath a continual feast.
Bagi orang yang tertekan, hari-hari terasa berat dan menyebalkan. Bagi orang yang bersukacita, setiap hari terasa bagai pesta.
16 Better is a little, with the fear of the LORD, Than much treasure, and trouble therewith.
Lebih baik miskin harta tetapi takut akan TUHAN daripada banyak harta tetapi penuh kecemasan.
17 Better is a dinner of herbs, where there is love, Than a fatted ox, and hatred therewith.
Lebih baik makan hanya sepiring sayur bersama keluarga yang saling mengasihi, daripada makan hidangan daging mewah bersama orang yang memusuhimu.
18 The passionate man stirreth up strife; But he who is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
Orang yang pemarah membangkitkan pertengkaran. Orang yang panjang sabar meredakan perselisihan.
19 The way of the slothful is as a hedge of thorns; But the way of the righteous is a highway.
Jalan hidup orang malas penuh dengan hambatan. Jalan hidup orang jujur lurus dan lancar.
20 A wise son maketh a glad father; But a foolish man despiseth his mother.
Anak lelaki yang bijak mendatangkan sukacita bagi ayahnya, tetapi anak lelaki yang bebal tidak menghargai ibunya.
21 Folly is joy to him who lacketh wisdom; But the man of understanding walketh uprightly.
Orang yang tak berakal budi senang melakukan hal bodoh, tetapi orang bijak menjaga perilakunya tetap lurus.
22 Without counsel, plans come to nought; But with a multitude of counsellors they are established.
Rencana akan gagal tanpa nasihat. Dengan banyak nasihat, rencana akan berhasil.
23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth; And a word in due season, how good it is!
Perkataan yang tepat pada waktu yang tepat membahagiakan, baik bagi pendengar maupun bagi yang mengatakannya.
24 The path of life is upward for the wise, So that he turneth away from the underworld beneath. (Sheol h7585)
Jalan hidup orang bijak terus naik menjauhi jalan turun yang menuju Syeol. (Sheol h7585)
25 The LORD destroyeth the house of the proud; But he will establish the border of the widow.
Rumah orang sombong akan dimusnahkan TUHAN, tetapi hak milik para janda dijaga-Nya agar tidak direbut orang.
26 Evil devices are an abomination to the LORD; But pleasant words are pure.
TUHAN membenci segala pemikiran yang jahat. Niat yang tulus akan terpancar lewat perkataan yang ramah.
27 He who is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; But he who hateth bribes shall live.
Orang yang mengeruk keuntungan dengan serakah akan menimbulkan masalah bagi keluarganya, tetapi orang yang menolak uang suap akan hidup bahagia.
28 The heart of the righteous meditateth on his answer; But the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
Orang benar mempertimbangkan dengan hati-hati sebelum menjawab. Orang jahat bicara tanpa berpikir, sehingga buruklah perkataannya.
29 The LORD is far from the wicked: But he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
TUHAN jauh dari orang yang jahat, tetapi Dia mendengarkan doa orang benar.
30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart, And good tidings make the bones fat.
Pembawa kabar yang datang dengan wajah cerah akan menyampaikan berita baik yang menyegarkan.
31 The ear that hearkeneth to the reproof of life Shall dwell among the wise.
Bila engkau bersedia mendengarkan teguran yang meluruskan hidupmu, engkau tergolong orang bijaksana.
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own life; But he that hearkeneth to rebuke getteth understanding.
Menolak didikan, celakalah diri. Mendengarkan teguran, bertambahlah pemahaman.
33 The fear of the LORD guideth to wisdom, And before honor is humility.
Orang yang takut akan TUHAN akan menjadi bijak. Jadilah rendah hati, maka engkau akan dihormati.
