Proverbs 15
1 A soft answer turneth away wrath; But harsh words stir up anger.
Une douce réponse brise la colère: une parole dure excite la fureur.
2 The tongue of the wise maketh knowledge pleasing; But the mouth of fools poureth forth folly.
La langue des sages embellit la science; la bouche des insensés fait jaillir la folie.
3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place; They behold the evil and the good.
En tout lieu, les yeux du Seigneur observent les bons et les méchants.
4 A mild tongue is a tree of life; But perverseness therein is a wound in the spirit.
La langue pacifique est un arbre de vie; mais celle qui est immodérée brisera l’esprit.
5 The fool despiseth the correction of his father; But he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
L’insensé se moque de la discipline de son père; mais celui qui est docile aux réprimandes deviendra plus sage. Dans une abondante justice est une très grande vertu; mais les pensées des méchants seront déracinées.
6 In the house of the righteous is much wealth; But in the revenues of the wicked there is trouble.
La maison du juste est une grande force; et dans les fruits de l’impie il n’y a que trouble.
7 The lips of the wise spread abroad knowledge; But the heart of the foolish is not sound.
Les lèvres des sages répandront la science: le cœur des insensés sera tout à fait différent.
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD; But the prayer of the righteous is his delight.
Les victimes des impies sont abominables au Seigneur, les vœux des justes lui sont agréables.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD; But him who followeth after righteousness he loveth.
C’est une abomination pour le Seigneur, que la voie de l’impie: celui qui suit la justice est aimé de lui.
10 Sore chastisement shall be to him that forsaketh the way; He that hateth reproof shall die.
La doctrine est odieuse à celui qui abandonne la voie de la vie; celui qui hait les réprimandes mourra.
11 The underworld, yea, the region of death, is before the LORD; How much more the hearts of the sons of men! (Sheol h7585)
L’enfer et la perdition sont à nu devant le Seigneur; combien plus les cœurs des fils des hommes? (Sheol h7585)
12 The scoffer loveth not his reprover; He will not resort to the wise.
L’homme pernicieux n’aime pas celui qui le reprend, et ne va pas vers les sages.
13 A joyous heart maketh a bright countenance; But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
Un cœur joyeux rassérène le visage; par la tristesse de l’âme, l’esprit est abattu.
14 The heart of the man of understanding seeketh knowledge; But the mouth of fools feedeth on folly.
Le cœur du sage cherche la doctrine; et la bouche des insensés se repaît d’ignorance.
15 The days of the afflicted are all evil; But he that hath a cheerful heart hath a continual feast.
Tous les jours du pauvre sont mauvais; l’âme tranquille est comme un continuel festin.
16 Better is a little, with the fear of the LORD, Than much treasure, and trouble therewith.
Mieux vaut peu avec la crainte du Seigneur que des trésors grands et inépuisables.
17 Better is a dinner of herbs, where there is love, Than a fatted ox, and hatred therewith.
Mieux vaut être convié à un repas d’herbes où règne la charité, qu’à manger avec de la haine un veau engraissé.
18 The passionate man stirreth up strife; But he who is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
L’homme colère excite des querelles; celui qui est patient apaise celles qui étaient déjà suscitées.
19 The way of the slothful is as a hedge of thorns; But the way of the righteous is a highway.
Le chemin des paresseux est comme une haie d’épines; la voie des justes est sans pierre d’achoppement.
20 A wise son maketh a glad father; But a foolish man despiseth his mother.
Un fils sage réjouit son père; et un homme insensé méprise sa mère.
21 Folly is joy to him who lacketh wisdom; But the man of understanding walketh uprightly.
La folie est joie pour l’insensé: et l’homme prudent dirige ses pas.
22 Without counsel, plans come to nought; But with a multitude of counsellors they are established.
Les pensées se dissipent là où il n’y a point de conseil; mais où il y a plusieurs conseillers, elles s’affermissent.
23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth; And a word in due season, how good it is!
L’homme se réjouit de la sentence sortie de sa bouche; et la parole opportune est excellente.
24 The path of life is upward for the wise, So that he turneth away from the underworld beneath. (Sheol h7585)
Le sentier de la vie est au-dessus de l’homme instruit, afin qu’il se détourne de l’enfer le plus profond. (Sheol h7585)
25 The LORD destroyeth the house of the proud; But he will establish the border of the widow.
Le Seigneur démolira la maison des superbes; et il affermira les bornes du champ de la veuve,
26 Evil devices are an abomination to the LORD; But pleasant words are pure.
C’est l’abomination du Seigneur que les pensées mauvaises; mais la parole pure, très belle, sera affermie par lui.
27 He who is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; But he who hateth bribes shall live.
Celui-là trouble sa maison, qui court après l’avarice; mais celui qui hait les présents vivra. Par la miséricorde et par la foi se purifient les péchés; mais c’est par la crainte du Seigneur que chacun se détourne du mal.
28 The heart of the righteous meditateth on his answer; But the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
L’esprit du juste médite l’obéissance: la bouche des impies déborde en mauvais discours.
29 The LORD is far from the wicked: But he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
Le Seigneur est loin des impies; et il exaucera les prières des justes.
30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart, And good tidings make the bones fat.
La lumière des yeux réjouit l’âme; la bonne réputation engraisse les os.
31 The ear that hearkeneth to the reproof of life Shall dwell among the wise.
L’oreille qui écoute les réprimandes de vie demeurera au milieu des sages.
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own life; But he that hearkeneth to rebuke getteth understanding.
Celui qui rejette la discipline méprise son âme: mais celui qui acquiesce aux réprimandes a du cœur.
33 The fear of the LORD guideth to wisdom, And before honor is humility.
La crainte du Seigneur est une discipline de sagesse; et l’humilité précède la gloire.
