Proverbs 15
1 A soft answer turneth away wrath; But harsh words stir up anger.
Une réponse douce calme la fureur, Mais une parole dure excite la colère.
2 The tongue of the wise maketh knowledge pleasing; But the mouth of fools poureth forth folly.
La langue des sages rend la science aimable, Et la bouche des insensés répand la folie.
3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place; They behold the evil and the good.
Les yeux de l’Éternel sont en tout lieu, Observant les méchants et les bons.
4 A mild tongue is a tree of life; But perverseness therein is a wound in the spirit.
La langue douce est un arbre de vie, Mais la langue perverse brise l’âme.
5 The fool despiseth the correction of his father; But he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
L’insensé dédaigne l’instruction de son père, Mais celui qui a égard à la réprimande agit avec prudence.
6 In the house of the righteous is much wealth; But in the revenues of the wicked there is trouble.
Il y a grande abondance dans la maison du juste, Mais il y a du trouble dans les profits du méchant.
7 The lips of the wise spread abroad knowledge; But the heart of the foolish is not sound.
Les lèvres des sages répandent la science, Mais le cœur des insensés n’est pas droit.
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD; But the prayer of the righteous is his delight.
Le sacrifice des méchants est en horreur à l’Éternel, Mais la prière des hommes droits lui est agréable.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD; But him who followeth after righteousness he loveth.
La voie du méchant est en horreur à l’Éternel, Mais il aime celui qui poursuit la justice.
10 Sore chastisement shall be to him that forsaketh the way; He that hateth reproof shall die.
Une correction sévère menace celui qui abandonne le sentier; Celui qui hait la réprimande mourra.
11 The underworld, yea, the region of death, is before the LORD; How much more the hearts of the sons of men! (Sheol h7585)
Le séjour des morts et l’abîme sont devant l’Éternel; Combien plus les cœurs des fils de l’homme! (Sheol h7585)
12 The scoffer loveth not his reprover; He will not resort to the wise.
Le moqueur n’aime pas qu’on le reprenne, Il ne va point vers les sages.
13 A joyous heart maketh a bright countenance; But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
Un cœur joyeux rend le visage serein; Mais quand le cœur est triste, l’esprit est abattu.
14 The heart of the man of understanding seeketh knowledge; But the mouth of fools feedeth on folly.
Un cœur intelligent cherche la science, Mais la bouche des insensés se plaît à la folie.
15 The days of the afflicted are all evil; But he that hath a cheerful heart hath a continual feast.
Tous les jours du malheureux sont mauvais, Mais le cœur content est un festin perpétuel.
16 Better is a little, with the fear of the LORD, Than much treasure, and trouble therewith.
Mieux vaut peu, avec la crainte de l’Éternel, Qu’un grand trésor, avec le trouble.
17 Better is a dinner of herbs, where there is love, Than a fatted ox, and hatred therewith.
Mieux vaut de l’herbe pour nourriture, là où règne l’amour, Qu’un bœuf engraissé, si la haine est là.
18 The passionate man stirreth up strife; But he who is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
Un homme violent excite des querelles, Mais celui qui est lent à la colère apaise les disputes.
19 The way of the slothful is as a hedge of thorns; But the way of the righteous is a highway.
Le chemin du paresseux est comme une haie d’épines, Mais le sentier des hommes droits est aplani.
20 A wise son maketh a glad father; But a foolish man despiseth his mother.
Un fils sage fait la joie de son père, Et un homme insensé méprise sa mère.
21 Folly is joy to him who lacketh wisdom; But the man of understanding walketh uprightly.
La folie est une joie pour celui qui est dépourvu de sens, Mais un homme intelligent va le droit chemin.
22 Without counsel, plans come to nought; But with a multitude of counsellors they are established.
Les projets échouent, faute d’une assemblée qui délibère; Mais ils réussissent quand il y a de nombreux conseillers.
23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth; And a word in due season, how good it is!
On éprouve de la joie à donner une réponse de sa bouche; Et combien est agréable une parole dite à propos!
24 The path of life is upward for the wise, So that he turneth away from the underworld beneath. (Sheol h7585)
Pour le sage, le sentier de la vie mène en haut, Afin qu’il se détourne du séjour des morts qui est en bas. (Sheol h7585)
25 The LORD destroyeth the house of the proud; But he will establish the border of the widow.
L’Éternel renverse la maison des orgueilleux, Mais il affermit les bornes de la veuve.
26 Evil devices are an abomination to the LORD; But pleasant words are pure.
Les pensées mauvaises sont en horreur à l’Éternel, Mais les paroles agréables sont pures à ses yeux.
27 He who is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; But he who hateth bribes shall live.
Celui qui est avide de gain trouble sa maison, Mais celui qui hait les présents vivra.
28 The heart of the righteous meditateth on his answer; But the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
Le cœur du juste médite pour répondre, Mais la bouche des méchants répand des méchancetés.
29 The LORD is far from the wicked: But he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
L’Éternel s’éloigne des méchants, Mais il écoute la prière des justes.
30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart, And good tidings make the bones fat.
Ce qui plaît aux yeux réjouit le cœur; Une bonne nouvelle fortifie les membres.
31 The ear that hearkeneth to the reproof of life Shall dwell among the wise.
L’oreille attentive aux réprimandes qui mènent à la vie Fait son séjour au milieu des sages.
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own life; But he that hearkeneth to rebuke getteth understanding.
Celui qui rejette la correction méprise son âme, Mais celui qui écoute la réprimande acquiert l’intelligence.
33 The fear of the LORD guideth to wisdom, And before honor is humility.
La crainte de l’Éternel enseigne la sagesse, Et l’humilité précède la gloire.
