Proverbs 15
1 A soft answer turneth away wrath; But harsh words stir up anger.
Une réplique pleine de douceur détourne le courroux; une parole blessante surexcite la colère.
2 The tongue of the wise maketh knowledge pleasing; But the mouth of fools poureth forth folly.
Le langage des sages rend la science aimable; la bouche des sots n’épanche que folie.
3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place; They behold the evil and the good.
Les regards de l’Eternel se portent partout, observant méchants et bons.
4 A mild tongue is a tree of life; But perverseness therein is a wound in the spirit.
Une langue bienveillante est comme un arbre de vie; mais perfide, elle brise le cœur.
5 The fool despiseth the correction of his father; But he that regardeth reproof is prudent.
L’Insensé méprise les leçons de son père; qui tient compte des réprimandes, est bien avisé.
6 In the house of the righteous is much wealth; But in the revenues of the wicked there is trouble.
La maison du juste est un grenier d’abondance; la récolte du méchant est menacée de ruine.
7 The lips of the wise spread abroad knowledge; But the heart of the foolish is not sound.
Les lèvres des sages propagent la science; le cœur des sots n’est qu’insanité.
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD; But the prayer of the righteous is his delight.
Le sacrifice des impies est en horreur à l’Eternel; mais il prend plaisir à la prière des gens de bien.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD; But him who followeth after righteousness he loveth.
L’Eternel a horreur de la conduite du méchant; mais il aime celui qui s’attache passionnément à la justice.
10 Sore chastisement shall be to him that forsaketh the way; He that hateth reproof shall die.
Un sévère châtiment menace celui qui abandonne la bonne voie; qui hait les remontrances périt.
11 The underworld, yea, the region of death, is before the LORD; How much more the hearts of the sons of men! (Sheol h7585)
Le Cheol et l’empire du néant sont sous les regards de l’Eternel; combien plus le cœur des humains! (Sheol h7585)
12 The scoffer loveth not his reprover; He will not resort to the wise.
Le persifleur n’aime pas qu’on le réprimande; il ne fréquente pas les sages.
13 A joyous heart maketh a bright countenance; But by sorrow of the heart the spirit is broken.
Un cœur joyeux rend le visage serein; le cœur souffre-t-il, l’esprit est abattu.
14 The heart of the man of understanding seeketh knowledge; But the mouth of fools feedeth on folly.
Le cœur de l’homme intelligent recherche le savoir; la bouche des sots se repaît de folie.
15 The days of the afflicted are all evil; But he that hath a cheerful heart hath a continual feast.
Les jours du pauvre sont tous mauvais; mais qui a le cœur content est perpétuellement en fête.
16 Better is a little, with the fear of the LORD, Than much treasure, and trouble therewith.
Mieux vaut une fortune médiocre avec la crainte de l’Eternel qu’une grande richesse, accompagnée de trouble.
17 Better is a dinner of herbs, where there is love, Than a fatted ox, and hatred therewith.
Mieux vaut un plat de choux, quand on s’aime, qu’un bœuf gras quand on se hait.
18 The passionate man stirreth up strife; But he who is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
L’Homme irascible excite des disputes; un tempérament paisible apaise les querelles.
19 The way of the slothful is as a hedge of thorns; But the way of the righteous is a highway.
Le chemin du paresseux est comme un fouillis d’épines; la voie des hommes de bien est toute frayée.
20 A wise son maketh a glad father; But a foolish man despiseth his mother.
Un fils sage réjouit son père, mais un homme sot méprise sa mère.
21 Folly is joy to him who lacketh wisdom; But the man of understanding walketh uprightly.
La sottise fait la joie de l’homme inintelligent; l’homme raisonnable dirige bien sa marche.
22 Without counsel, plans come to nought; But with a multitude of counsellors they are established.
Faute de délibération, les projets échouent; ils réussissent, si les conseillers sont nombreux.
23 A man hath joy by the answer of his mouth; And a word in due season, how good it is!
C’Est une joie pour l’homme de trouver des répliques: combien précieuse une parole dite à propos!
24 The path of life is upward for the wise, So that he turneth away from the underworld beneath. (Sheol h7585)
Pour l’homme intelligent, le chemin de la vie se dirige vers les hauteurs; ainsi il évite les bas-fonds du Cheol. (Sheol h7585)
25 The LORD destroyeth the house of the proud; But he will establish the border of the widow.
L’Eternel démolit la maison orgueilleuse; mais il consolide la borne de la veuve.
26 Evil devices are an abomination to the LORD; But pleasant words are pure.
L’Eternel a horreur des pensées mauvaises; pures à ses yeux sont les paroles bienveillantes.
27 He who is greedy of gain troubleth his own house; But he who hateth bribes shall live.
Qui poursuit le lucre ruine sa maison; qui hait les présents vivra.
28 The heart of the righteous meditateth on his answer; But the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things.
Le cœur du juste réfléchit avant de répondre; la bouche des pervers répand à flots les mauvaises paroles.
29 The LORD is far from the wicked: But he heareth the prayer of the righteous.
L’Eternel est loin des méchants, mais il entend la prière des justes.
30 The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart, And good tidings make the bones fat.
La lumière qui éclaire les yeux réjouit le cœur; une bonne nouvelle est une sève bienfaisante au corps.
31 The ear that hearkeneth to the reproof of life Shall dwell among the wise.
Prêter une oreille attentive aux instructions salutaires, c’est mériter de vivre parmi les sages.
32 He that refuseth instruction despiseth his own life; But he that hearkeneth to rebuke getteth understanding.
Qui délaisse la morale fait bon marché de sa personne; qui écoute les réprimandes acquiert de l’intelligence.
33 The fear of the LORD guideth to wisdom, And before honor is humility.
La leçon de la sagesse, c’est la crainte de l’Eternel; l’honneur a pour avant-garde la modestie.
