Proverbs 13
1 A wise son listeneth to the instruction of his father; But a scoffer listeneth not to rebuke.
Con khôn ngoan để ý nghe cha khuyên dạy, đứa nhạo cười bỏ lời khiển trách ngoài tai.
2 By the fruit of a man's mouth he shall eat good; But the appetite of transgressors shall be sated with violence.
Người lành thắng kiện nhờ nói năng dè dặt, người ác chỉ ước ao toàn chuyện bạo tàn.
3 He who keepeth his mouth keepeth his life; But destruction shall be to him who openeth wide his lips.
Người tự chủ biết hãm cầm miệng lưỡi; người hở môi gặt lấy thất bại hoài.
4 The appetite of the sluggard longeth, and hath nothing; But the appetite of the diligent is fully satisfied.
Người làm biếng mong muốn mà chẳng được, người siêng năng ước gì có nấy.
5 A righteous man hateth words of falsehood; But a wicked man causeth disgrace and shame.
Người công chính ghét những gì không ngay thật, người ác ôn dối trá rồi gặt nhuốc nhơ.
6 Righteousness preserveth him who is upright in his way; But wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
Đức công chính bảo vệ người ngay thẳng, tội lỗi luôn tiêu diệt bọn tà tâm.
7 There is who maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing, Who maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.
Có người tỏ vẻ giàu mà chẳng có chi; có người làm bộ nghèo mà giàu nứt vách.
8 A man's wealth is the ransom of his life; But the poor man heareth no threatenings.
Người giàu mới có tiền chuộc mạng, còn người nghèo đâu sợ ai bắt cóc.
9 The light of the righteous shall rejoice; But the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
Đèn người lành sáng choang, đèn người ác tắt ngấm.
10 By pride cometh only contention; But with the well-advised is wisdom.
Tính kiêu căng chỉ sinh ra tranh chấp; nhưng ai khiêm tốn phục thiện mới là khôn ngoan.
11 Wealth gotten by vanity will become small; But he who gathereth it into the hand increaseth it.
Của phi nghĩa sớm tan biến; tiền mồ hôi nước mắt mới còn bền lâu.
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; But the desire accomplished is a tree of life.
Hy vọng trì hoãn khiến lòng đau ê ẩm, mộng được thành làm phấn chấn tâm can.
13 He that despiseth the word shall be destroyed; But he who revereth the commandment shall be rewarded.
Người coi thường khuyên dạy, lãnh hậu họa chẳng sai; người tôn trọng mệnh lệnh nhận phần thưởng chắc chắn.
14 The instruction of the wise is a fountain of life; By it men escape from the snares of death.
Lời dạy của người khôn như nguồn sự sống; hướng dẫn người nghe thoát cạm bẫy tử thần.
15 A good understanding winneth favor; But the way of transgressors is hard.
Lương tri đem lại lòng mến phục; nhưng đường xảo trá dẫy đầy gian nan.
16 Every prudent man acteth with knowledge; But a fool spreadeth abroad his folly.
Người khôn suy tính kỹ càng; người dại hấp tấp tỏ mình ngây ngô.
17 A wicked messenger falleth into trouble; But a faithful ambassador is health.
Sứ giả gian ác ngã vào tội ác, khâm sai trung tín đem lại chữa lành.
18 Poverty and shame are for him who rejecteth instruction; But he that regardeth reproof shall come to honor.
Khước từ kỷ luật gây ra bần cùng nhục nhã; ai đón nhận khiển trách sẽ thấy ngày quang vinh.
19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.
Ước muốn thành công làm linh hồn khoan khoái, vì vậy, người ác bám chặt lấy ước muốn lầm sai.
20 He who walketh with wise men shall be wise; But the companion of fools shall be destroyed.
Gần đèn thì sáng, gần người khôn trở nên khôn; gần mực thì đen, gần người dại phải mang họa.
21 Calamity pursueth the wicked; But the righteous is rewarded with good.
Tai họa đuổi theo người gian ác, phước hạnh bám sát người thiện lành.
22 The good man leaveth his substance to his children's children; But the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
Của cải người lành để lại cho con cháu hưởng, gia tài người ác dành cho người công chính dùng.
23 There is much food from the fallow-ground of the poor; But there is who is brought low for want of uprightness.
Ruộng người nghèo có thể sản xuất nhiều hoa lợi, nhưng ăn ở bất lương sẽ thành công dã tràng.
24 He that spareth the rod hateth his son; But he who loveth him chasteneth him early.
Ai kiêng roi vọt ghét con trai mình, người biết thương con không quên sửa trị nó.
25 The righteous man eateth to the satisfying of his desire; But the stomach of the wicked suffereth want.
Người công chính ăn thì được ấm lòng, người gian tà ăn mà vẫn đói meo.
