Proverbs 13
1 A wise son listeneth to the instruction of his father; But a scoffer listeneth not to rebuke.
| בֵּ֣ן חָ֭כָם מ֣וּסַר אָ֑ב וְ֝לֵ֗ץ לֹא־שָׁמַ֥ע גְּעָרָֽה׃ |
2 By the fruit of a man's mouth he shall eat good; But the appetite of transgressors shall be sated with violence.
| מִפְּרִ֣י פִי־אִ֭ישׁ יֹ֣אכַל ט֑וֹב וְנֶ֖פֶשׁ בֹּגְדִ֣ים חָמָֽס׃ |
3 He who keepeth his mouth keepeth his life; But destruction shall be to him who openeth wide his lips.
| נֹצֵ֣ר פִּ֭יו שֹׁמֵ֣ר נַפְשׁ֑וֹ פֹּשֵׂ֥ק שְׂ֝פָתָ֗יו מְחִתָּה־לֽוֹ׃ |
4 The appetite of the sluggard longeth, and hath nothing; But the appetite of the diligent is fully satisfied.
| מִתְאַוָּ֣ה וָ֭אַיִן נַפְשׁ֣וֹ עָצֵ֑ל וְנֶ֖פֶשׁ חָרֻצִ֣ים תְּדֻשָּֽׁן׃ |
5 A righteous man hateth words of falsehood; But a wicked man causeth disgrace and shame.
| דְּבַר־שֶׁ֭קֶר יִשְׂנָ֣א צַדִּ֑יק וְ֝רָשָׁ֗ע יַבְאִ֥ישׁ וְיַחְפִּֽיר׃ |
6 Righteousness preserveth him who is upright in his way; But wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
| צְ֭דָקָה תִּצֹּ֣ר תָּם־דָּ֑רֶךְ וְ֝רִשְׁעָ֗ה תְּסַלֵּ֥ף חַטָּֽאת׃ |
7 There is who maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing, Who maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.
| יֵ֣שׁ מִ֭תְעַשֵּׁר וְאֵ֣ין כֹּ֑ל מִ֝תְרוֹשֵׁ֗שׁ וְה֣וֹן רָֽב׃ |
8 A man's wealth is the ransom of his life; But the poor man heareth no threatenings.
| כֹּ֣פֶר נֶֽפֶשׁ־אִ֣ישׁ עָשְׁר֑וֹ וְ֝רָ֗שׁ לֹא־שָׁמַ֥ע גְּעָרָֽה׃ |
9 The light of the righteous shall rejoice; But the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
| אוֹר־צַדִּיקִ֥ים יִשְׂמָ֑ח וְנֵ֖ר רְשָׁעִ֣ים יִדְעָֽךְ׃ |
10 By pride cometh only contention; But with the well-advised is wisdom.
| רַק־בְּ֭זָדוֹן יִתֵּ֣ן מַצָּ֑ה וְאֶת־נ֖וֹעָצִ֣ים חָכְמָֽה׃ |
11 Wealth gotten by vanity will become small; But he who gathereth it into the hand increaseth it.
| ה֭וֹן מֵהֶ֣בֶל יִמְעָ֑ט וְקֹבֵ֖ץ עַל־יָ֣ד יַרְבֶּֽה׃ |
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; But the desire accomplished is a tree of life.
| תּוֹחֶ֣לֶת מְ֭מֻשָּׁכָה מַחֲלָה־לֵ֑ב וְעֵ֥ץ חַ֝יִּ֗ים תַּאֲוָ֥ה בָאָֽה׃ |
13 He that despiseth the word shall be destroyed; But he who revereth the commandment shall be rewarded.
| בָּ֣ז לְ֭דָבָר יֵחָ֣בֶל ל֑וֹ וִירֵ֥א מִ֝צְוָ֗ה ה֣וּא יְשֻׁלָּֽם׃ |
14 The instruction of the wise is a fountain of life; By it men escape from the snares of death.
| תּוֹרַ֣ת חָ֭כָם מְק֣וֹר חַיִּ֑ים לָ֝ס֗וּר מִמֹּ֥קְשֵׁי מָֽוֶת׃ |
15 A good understanding winneth favor; But the way of transgressors is hard.
| שֵֽׂכֶל־ט֭וֹב יִתֶּן־חֵ֑ן וְדֶ֖רֶךְ בֹּגְדִ֣ים אֵיתָֽן׃ |
16 Every prudent man acteth with knowledge; But a fool spreadeth abroad his folly.
| כָּל־עָ֭רוּם יַעֲשֶׂ֣ה בְדָ֑עַת וּ֝כְסִ֗יל יִפְרֹ֥שׂ אִוֶּֽלֶת׃ |
17 A wicked messenger falleth into trouble; But a faithful ambassador is health.
| מַלְאָ֣ךְ רָ֭שָׁע יִפֹּ֣ל בְּרָ֑ע וְצִ֖יר אֱמוּנִ֣ים מַרְפֵּֽא׃ |
18 Poverty and shame are for him who rejecteth instruction; But he that regardeth reproof shall come to honor.
| רֵ֣ישׁ וְ֭קָלוֹן פּוֹרֵ֣עַ מוּסָ֑ר וְשׁוֹמֵ֖ר תּוֹכַ֣חַת יְכֻבָּֽד׃ |
19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.
| תַּאֲוָ֣ה נִ֭הְיָה תֶּעֱרַ֣ב לְנָ֑פֶשׁ וְתוֹעֲבַ֥ת כְּ֝סִילִ֗ים ס֣וּר מֵרָֽע׃ |
20 He who walketh with wise men shall be wise; But the companion of fools shall be destroyed.
| הלוך אֶת־חֲכָמִ֣ים וחכם וְרֹעֶ֖ה כְסִילִ֣ים יֵרֽוֹעַ׃ |
21 Calamity pursueth the wicked; But the righteous is rewarded with good.
| חַ֭טָּאִים תְּרַדֵּ֣ף רָעָ֑ה וְאֶת־צַ֝דִּיקִ֗ים יְשַׁלֶּם־טֽוֹב׃ |
22 The good man leaveth his substance to his children's children; But the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
| ט֗וֹב יַנְחִ֥יל בְּנֵֽי־בָנִ֑ים וְצָפ֥וּן לַ֝צַּדִּ֗יק חֵ֣יל חוֹטֵֽא׃ |
23 There is much food from the fallow-ground of the poor; But there is who is brought low for want of uprightness.
| רָב־אֹ֭כֶל נִ֣יר רָאשִׁ֑ים וְיֵ֥שׁ נִ֝סְפֶּ֗ה בְּלֹ֣א מִשְׁפָּֽט׃ |
24 He that spareth the rod hateth his son; But he who loveth him chasteneth him early.
| חוֹשֵׂ֣ךְ שִׁ֭בְטוֹ שׂוֹנֵ֣א בְנ֑וֹ וְ֝אֹהֲב֗וֹ שִֽׁחֲר֥וֹ מוּסָֽר׃ |
25 The righteous man eateth to the satisfying of his desire; But the stomach of the wicked suffereth want.
| צַדִּ֗יק אֹ֭כֵל לְשֹׂ֣בַע נַפְשׁ֑וֹ וּבֶ֖טֶן רְשָׁעִ֣ים תֶּחְסָֽר׃ פ |
