Proverbs 13
1 A wise son listeneth to the instruction of his father; But a scoffer listeneth not to rebuke.
Syn moudrý přijímá cvičení otcovo, ale posměvač neposlouchá domlouvání.
2 By the fruit of a man's mouth he shall eat good; But the appetite of transgressors shall be sated with violence.
Z ovoce úst každý jísti bude dobré, ale duše převrácených nátisky.
3 He who keepeth his mouth keepeth his life; But destruction shall be to him who openeth wide his lips.
Kdo ostříhá úst svých, ostříhá duše své; kdo rozdírá rty své, setření na něj přijde.
4 The appetite of the sluggard longeth, and hath nothing; But the appetite of the diligent is fully satisfied.
Žádá, a nic nemá duše lenivého, duše pak pracovitých zbohatne.
5 A righteous man hateth words of falsehood; But a wicked man causeth disgrace and shame.
Slova lživého nenávidí spravedlivý, bezbožníka pak v ošklivost uvodí a zahanbuje.
6 Righteousness preserveth him who is upright in his way; But wickedness overthroweth the sinner.
Spravedlnost ostříhá přímě chodícího po cestě, bezbožnost pak vyvrací hříšníka.
7 There is who maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing, Who maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.
Někdo bohatým se dělaje, nemá nic: zase někdo dělaje se chudým, má však statku mnoho.
8 A man's wealth is the ransom of his life; But the poor man heareth no threatenings.
Výplata života člověku jest bohatství jeho, ale chudý neslyší domlouvání.
9 The light of the righteous shall rejoice; But the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.
Světlo spravedlivých rozsvětluje se, svíce pak bezbožných zhasne.
10 By pride cometh only contention; But with the well-advised is wisdom.
Samou toliko pýchou působí člověk svár, ale při těch, jenž užívají rady, jest moudrost.
11 Wealth gotten by vanity will become small; But he who gathereth it into the hand increaseth it.
Statek zle dobytý umenšovati se bude, kdož pak shromažďuje rukou, přivětší ho.
12 Hope deferred maketh the heart sick; But the desire accomplished is a tree of life.
Očekávání dlouhé zemdlívá srdce, ale žádost splněná jest strom života.
13 He that despiseth the word shall be destroyed; But he who revereth the commandment shall be rewarded.
Kdož pohrdá slovem Božím, sám sobě škodí; ale kdož se bojí přikázaní, odplaceno mu bude.
14 The instruction of the wise is a fountain of life; By it men escape from the snares of death.
Naučení moudrého jest pramen života, k vyhýbání se osídlům smrti.
15 A good understanding winneth favor; But the way of transgressors is hard.
Rozum dobrý dává milost, cesta pak převrácených jest tvrdá.
16 Every prudent man acteth with knowledge; But a fool spreadeth abroad his folly.
Každý důmyslný dělá uměle, ale blázen rozprostírá bláznovství.
17 A wicked messenger falleth into trouble; But a faithful ambassador is health.
Posel bezbožný upadá v neštěstí, jednatel pak věrný jest lékařství.
18 Poverty and shame are for him who rejecteth instruction; But he that regardeth reproof shall come to honor.
Chudoba a lehkost potká toho, jenž se vytahuje z kázně; ale kdož ostříhá naučení, zveleben bude.
19 The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul; But it is an abomination to fools to depart from evil.
Žádost naplněná sladká jest duši, ale ohavnost jest bláznům odstoupiti od zlého.
20 He who walketh with wise men shall be wise; But the companion of fools shall be destroyed.
Kdo chodí s moudrými, bude moudrý; ale kdo tovaryší s blázny, setřín bude.
21 Calamity pursueth the wicked; But the righteous is rewarded with good.
Hříšníky stihá neštěstí, ale spravedlivým odplatí Bůh dobrým.
22 The good man leaveth his substance to his children's children; But the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
Dobrý zanechává dědictví vnukům, ale zboží hříšného zachováno bývá spravedlivému.
23 There is much food from the fallow-ground of the poor; But there is who is brought low for want of uprightness.
Hojnost jest pokrmů na rolí chudých, někdo pak hyne skrze nerozšafnost.
24 He that spareth the rod hateth his son; But he who loveth him chasteneth him early.
Kdo zdržuje metlu svou, nenávidí syna svého; ale kdož ho miluje, za času jej tresce.
25 The righteous man eateth to the satisfying of his desire; But the stomach of the wicked suffereth want.
Spravedlivý jí až do nasycení duše své, břicho pak bezbožných nedostatek trpí.
