Proverbs 12
1 He who loveth correction loveth knowledge; But he who hateth rebuke remaineth stupid.
Tietoa rakastaa, joka kuritusta rakastaa, mutta järjetön se, joka nuhdetta vihaa.
2 The good man obtaineth favor from the LORD; But the man of wicked devices he condemneth.
Hyvä saa Herran mielisuosion, mutta juonittelijan hän tuomitsee syylliseksi.
3 A man shall not be established by wickedness; But the root of the righteous shall not be moved.
Ei ihminen kestä jumalattomuuden varassa, mutta vanhurskasten juuri on horjumaton.
4 A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband; But she who causeth shame is as rottenness in his bones.
Kelpo vaimo on puolisonsa kruunu, mutta kunnoton on kuin mätä hänen luissansa.
5 The purposes of the righteous are just; The designs of the wicked are deceitful.
Vanhurskasten aivoitukset ovat oikeat, jumalattomien hankkeet petolliset.
6 The words of the wicked lie in wait for men's blood; But the mouth of the upright delivereth them.
Jumalattomien puheet väijyvät verta, mutta oikeamieliset pelastaa heidän suunsa.
7 The wicked are overthrown, and are no more; But the house of the righteous shall stand.
Jumalattomat kukistuvat olemattomiin, mutta vanhurskasten huone pysyy.
8 A man will be commended according to his wisdom; But he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.
Ymmärryksensä mukaan miestä kiitetään, mutta nurjasydämistä halveksitaan.
9 Better is he that demeaneth himself, and hath a servant, Than he that exalteth himself, and hath no bread.
Parempi halpa-arvoinen, jolla on palvelija, kuin rehentelijä, joka on vailla leipää.
10 The righteous man careth for the life of his beast; But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
Vanhurskas tuntee, mitä hänen karjansa kaipaa, mutta jumalattomain sydän on armoton.
11 He who tilleth his own land shall be satisfied with bread; But he who followeth worthless persons is void of understanding.
Joka peltonsa viljelee, saa leipää kyllin, mutta tyhjän tavoittelija on mieltä vailla.
12 The wicked man longeth after the prey of evil-doers; But the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.
Jumalaton himoitsee pahojen saalista, mutta vanhurskasten juuri on antoisa.
13 In the transgression of the lips is a dangerous snare; But the righteous man shall escape from trouble.
Huulten rikkomus on paha ansa, mutta vanhurskas pääsee hädästä.
14 By the fruit of a man's mouth he shall be filled with good, And the recompense of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.
Suunsa hedelmästä saa kyllälti hyvää, ja ihmisen eteen kiertyvät hänen kättensä työt.
15 The way of a fool is right in his own eyes; But he that hearkeneth to counsel is wise.
Hullun tie on hänen omissa silmissään oikea, mutta joka neuvoa kuulee, on viisas.
16 A fool's wrath is instantly known; But he that hideth insult is wise.
Hullun suuttumus tulee kohta ilmi, mutta mielevä peittää kärsimänsä häpeän.
17 He that speaketh truth testifieth what is right; But a false witness, deceit.
Toden puhuja lausuu oikeuden, mutta väärä todistaja petoksen.
18 There is who babbleth like the piercing of a sword; But the tongue of the wise is health.
Moni viskoo sanoja kuin miekanpistoja, mutta viisasten kieli on lääke.
19 The lip of truth shall be established for ever; But the tongue of falsehood, but for a moment.
Totuuden huulet pysyvät iäti, mutta valheen kieli vain tuokion.
20 Deceit is in the heart of those who contrive evil; But to the counsellors of peace shall be joy.
Jotka pahaa miettivät, niillä on mielessä petos, mutta jotka rauhaan neuvovat, niille tulee ilo.
21 No evil shall happen to the righteous; But the wicked shall be filled with calamity.
Ei tule turmiota vanhurskaalle, mutta jumalattomat ovat onnettomuutta täynnä.
22 False lips are the abomination of the LORD; But they who deal truly are his delight.
Herralle kauhistus ovat valheelliset huulet, mutta teoissaan uskolliset ovat hänelle otolliset.
23 A prudent man concealeth his knowledge; Bur the heart of fools proclaimeth their foolishness.
Mielevä ihminen peittää tietonsa, mutta tyhmäin sydän huutaa julki hulluutensa.
24 The hand of the diligent shall bear rule; But the slothful shall be under tribute.
Ahkerain käsi saa hallita, mutta laiska joutuu työveron alaiseksi.
25 Anxiety in the heart of a man boweth it down; But a kind word maketh it glad.
Huoli painaa alas miehen mielen, mutta hyvä sana sen ilahuttaa.
26 The righteous showeth the way to his neighbor; But the way of the wicked leadeth them astray.
Vanhurskas opastaa lähimmäistänsä, mutta jumalattomat eksyttää heidän oma tiensä.
27 The slothful man shall not roast his game; But a precious treasure to any man is he that is diligent.
Laiska ei saa ajetuksi itselleen riistaa, mutta ahkeruus on ihmiselle kallis tavara.
28 In the path of righteousness is life, And in her pathway there is no death.
Vanhurskauden polulla on elämä, ja sen tien kulku ei ole kuolemaksi.
