Proverbs 11
1 False scales are an abomination to the LORD; But a perfect weight is his delight.
Neraca serong adalah kekejian bagi TUHAN, tetapi Ia berkenan akan batu timbangan yang tepat.
2 When pride cometh, then cometh disgrace; But with the humble is wisdom.
Jikalau keangkuhan tiba, tiba juga cemooh, tetapi hikmat ada pada orang yang rendah hati.
3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them; But the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
Orang yang jujur dipimpin oleh ketulusannya, tetapi pengkhianat dirusak oleh kecurangannya.
4 Riches do not profit in the day of wrath; But righteousness delivereth from death.
Pada hari kemurkaan harta tidak berguna, tetapi kebenaran melepaskan orang dari maut.
5 The righteousness of the good man maketh his way plain; But the wicked falleth through his wickedness.
Jalan orang saleh diratakan oleh kebenarannya, tetapi orang fasik jatuh karena kefasikannya.
6 The righteousness of the upright delivereth them; But transgressors are ensnared in their own mischief.
Orang yang jujur dilepaskan oleh kebenarannya, tetapi pengkhianat tertangkap oleh hawa nafsunya.
7 When the wicked man dieth, his hope cometh to an end; Yea, the expectation of the unjust cometh to an end.
Pengharapan orang fasik gagal pada kematiannya, dan harapan orang jahat menjadi sia-sia.
8 The righteous man is delivered from trouble, And the wicked cometh into it in his stead.
Orang benar diselamatkan dari kesukaran, lalu orang fasik menggantikannya.
9 By his mouth the vile man destroyeth his neighbor; But by the knowledge of the righteous are men delivered.
Dengan mulutnya orang fasik membinasakan sesama manusia, tetapi orang benar diselamatkan oleh pengetahuan.
10 When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth; And when the wicked perish, there is shouting.
Bila orang benar mujur, beria-rialah kota, dan bila orang fasik binasa, gemuruhlah sorak-sorai.
11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted; But it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
Berkat orang jujur memperkembangkan kota, tetapi mulut orang fasik meruntuhkannya.
12 He who despiseth his neighbor is void of understanding; A man of discernment holdeth his peace.
Siapa menghina sesamanya, tidak berakal budi, tetapi orang yang pandai, berdiam diri.
13 He who goeth about as a tale-bearer revealeth secrets; But he who is of a faithful spirit concealeth a matter.
Siapa mengumpat, membuka rahasia, tetapi siapa yang setia, menutupi perkara.
14 Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in a multitude of counsellors there is safety.
Jikalau tidak ada pimpinan, jatuhlah bangsa, tetapi jikalau penasihat banyak, keselamatan ada.
15 He that is surety for another shall smart for it; But he that hateth suretyship is sure.
Sangat malanglah orang yang menanggung orang lain, tetapi siapa membenci pertanggungan, amanlah ia.
16 A graceful woman obtaineth honor, Even as strong men obtain riches.
Perempuan yang baik hati beroleh hormat; sedangkan seorang penindas beroleh kekayaan.
17 He that doeth good to himself is a man of kindness; But he that tormenteth his own flesh is cruel.
Orang yang murah hati berbuat baik kepada diri sendiri, tetapi orang yang kejam menyiksa badannya sendiri.
18 The wicked toileth for deceitful wages; But he who soweth righteousness shall have a sure reward.
Orang fasik membuat laba yang sia-sia, tetapi siapa menabur kebenaran, mendapat pahala yang tetap.
19 As righteousness tendeth to life, So he who pursueth evil pursueth it to his death.
Siapa berpegang pada kebenaran yang sejati, menuju hidup, tetapi siapa mengejar kejahatan, menuju kematian.
20 The perverse in heart are the abomination of the LORD; But the upright in their way are his delight.
Orang yang serong hatinya adalah kekejian bagi TUHAN, tetapi orang yang tak bercela, jalannya dikenan-Nya.
21 From generation to generation the wicked shall not go unpunished; But the posterity of the righteous shall be delivered.
Sungguh, orang jahat tidak akan luput dari hukuman, tetapi keturunan orang benar akan diselamatkan.
22 As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, So is a beautiful woman who is without discretion.
Seperti anting-anting emas di jungur babi, demikianlah perempuan cantik yang tidak susila.
23 The desire of the righteous is only good; But the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
Keinginan orang benar mendatangkan bahagia semata-mata, harapan orang fasik mendatangkan murka.
24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; And there is that withholdeth more than is right, yet he cometh to want.
Ada yang menyebar harta, tetapi bertambah kaya, ada yang menghemat secara luar biasa, namun selalu berkekurangan.
25 The bountiful man shall be enriched, And he that watereth shall himself be watered.
Siapa banyak memberi berkat, diberi kelimpahan, siapa memberi minum, ia sendiri akan diberi minum.
26 Him that keepeth back corn the people curse; But blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.
Siapa menahan gandum, ia dikutuki orang, tetapi berkat turun di atas kepala orang yang menjual gandum.
27 He, who earnestly seeketh good, seeketh favor; But he that seeketh mischief, it shall come upon him.
Siapa mengejar kebaikan, berusaha untuk dikenan orang, tetapi siapa mengejar kejahatan akan ditimpa kejahatan.
28 He who trusteth in his riches shall fall; But the righteous shall flourish as a leaf.
Siapa mempercayakan diri kepada kekayaannya akan jatuh; tetapi orang benar akan tumbuh seperti daun muda.
29 He that harasseth his household shall inherit wind; And the fool shall be the servant of the wise.
Siapa yang mengacaukan rumah tangganya akan menangkap angin; orang bodoh akan menjadi budak orang bijak.
30 The fruit of a righteous man is a tree of life; And the wise man winneth souls.
Hasil orang benar adalah pohon kehidupan, dan siapa bijak, mengambil hati orang.
31 Behold, the righteous man is requited on the earth; Much more the wicked man and the sinner!
Kalau orang benar menerima balasan di atas bumi, lebih-lebih orang fasik dan orang berdosa!
