Proverbs 11
1 False scales are an abomination to the LORD; But a perfect weight is his delight.
Δολία πλάστιγξ βδέλυγμα εις τον Κύριον· δίκαιον δε ζύγιον ευαρέστησις αυτού.
2 When pride cometh, then cometh disgrace; But with the humble is wisdom.
Όπου εισέλθη υπερηφανία, εισέρχεται και καταισχύνη· η δε σοφία είναι μετά των ταπεινών.
3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them; But the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
Η ακεραιότης των ευθέων θέλει οδηγεί αυτούς· η δε υπουλότης των σκολιών θέλει απολέσει αυτούς.
4 Riches do not profit in the day of wrath; But righteousness delivereth from death.
Τα πλούτη δεν ωφελούσιν εν ημέρα οργής· η δε δικαιοσύνη ελευθερόνει εκ θανάτου.
5 The righteousness of the good man maketh his way plain; But the wicked falleth through his wickedness.
Η δικαιοσύνη του ακεραίου θέλει ορθοτομήσει την οδόν αυτού· ο δε ασεβής θέλει πέσει διά της ασεβείας αυτού.
6 The righteousness of the upright delivereth them; But transgressors are ensnared in their own mischief.
Η δικαιοσύνη των ευθέων θέλει ελευθερώσει αυτούς· οι δε παραβάται θέλουσι συλληφθή εν τη κακία αυτών.
7 When the wicked man dieth, his hope cometh to an end; Yea, the expectation of the unjust cometh to an end.
Όταν ο ασεβής άνθρωπος αποθνήσκη, η ελπίς αυτού απόλλυται· απόλλυται και η προσδοκία των ανόμων.
8 The righteous man is delivered from trouble, And the wicked cometh into it in his stead.
Ο δίκαιος ελευθερόνεται εκ της θλίψεως, αντ' αυτού δε εισέρχεται ο ασεβής.
9 By his mouth the vile man destroyeth his neighbor; But by the knowledge of the righteous are men delivered.
Ο υποκριτής διά του στόματος αφανίζει τον πλησίον αυτού· αλλ' οι δίκαιοι θέλουσιν ελευθερωθή διά της γνώσεως.
10 When it goeth well with the righteous, the city rejoiceth; And when the wicked perish, there is shouting.
Εις την ευόδωσιν των δικαίων η πόλις ευφραίνεται· και εις τον όλεθρον των ασεβών αγάλλεται.
11 By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted; But it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked.
Διά της ευλογίας των ευθέων υψόνεται πόλις· διά του στόματος δε των ασεβών καταστρέφεται.
12 He who despiseth his neighbor is void of understanding; A man of discernment holdeth his peace.
Ο ενδεής φρενών περιφρονεί τον πλησίον αυτού· ο δε φρόνιμος άνθρωπος σιωπά.
13 He who goeth about as a tale-bearer revealeth secrets; But he who is of a faithful spirit concealeth a matter.
Ο σπερμολόγος περιέρχεται αποκαλύπτων τα μυστικά· ο δε την ψυχήν πιστός κρύπτει το πράγμα.
14 Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in a multitude of counsellors there is safety.
Όπου δεν είναι κυβέρνησις, ο λαός πίπτει· εκ του πλήθους δε των συμβούλων προέρχεται σωτηρία.
15 He that is surety for another shall smart for it; But he that hateth suretyship is sure.
Όστις εγγυάται δι' άλλον, θέλει πάθει κακόν· και όστις μισεί την εγγύησιν, είναι ασφαλής.
16 A graceful woman obtaineth honor, Even as strong men obtain riches.
Η εύκοσμος γυνή απολαμβάνει τιμήν· οι δε καρτερικοί απολαμβάνουσι πλούτη.
17 He that doeth good to himself is a man of kindness; But he that tormenteth his own flesh is cruel.
Ο ελεήμων άνθρωπος αγαθοποιεί την ψυχήν αυτού· ο δε ανελεήμων θλίβει την σάρκα αυτού.
18 The wicked toileth for deceitful wages; But he who soweth righteousness shall have a sure reward.
Ο ασεβής εργάζεται έργον ψευδές· εις δε τον σπείροντα δικαιοσύνην θέλει είσθαι μισθός ασφαλής.
19 As righteousness tendeth to life, So he who pursueth evil pursueth it to his death.
Καθώς η δικαιοσύνη τείνει εις ζωήν, ούτως ο κυνηγών το κακόν τρέχει εις τον θάνατον αυτού.
20 The perverse in heart are the abomination of the LORD; But the upright in their way are his delight.
Οι διεστραμμένοι την καρδίαν είναι βδέλυγμα εις τον Κύριον· αλλ' οι άμεμπτοι την οδόν είναι δεκτοί εις αυτόν.
21 From generation to generation the wicked shall not go unpunished; But the posterity of the righteous shall be delivered.
Και χειρ με χείρα εάν συνάπτηται, ο ασεβής δεν θέλει μένει ατιμώρητος· το δε σπέρμα των δικαίων θέλει ελευθερωθή.
22 As a jewel of gold in a swine's snout, So is a beautiful woman who is without discretion.
Ως έρρινον χρυσούν εις χοίρου μύτην, ούτω γυνή ώραία χωρίς φρονήσεως.
23 The desire of the righteous is only good; But the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
Η επιθυμία των δικαίων είναι μόνον το καλόν· η προσδοκία δε των ασεβών οργή.
24 There is that scattereth, and yet increaseth; And there is that withholdeth more than is right, yet he cometh to want.
Οι μεν σκορπίζουσι, και όμως περισσεύονται· οι δε παρά το δέον φείδονται, και όμως έρχονται εις ένδειαν.
25 The bountiful man shall be enriched, And he that watereth shall himself be watered.
Η αγαθοποιός ψυχή θέλει παχυνθή· και όστις ποτίζει, θέλει ποτισθή και αυτός.
26 Him that keepeth back corn the people curse; But blessing shall be upon the head of him that selleth it.
Όστις κρατεί σίτον, θέλει είσθαι λαοκατάρατος· ευλογία δε θέλει είσθαι επί την κεφαλήν του πωλούντος.
27 He, who earnestly seeketh good, seeketh favor; But he that seeketh mischief, it shall come upon him.
Όστις προθυμείται εις το καλόν, θέλει απολαύσει χάριν· αλλ' όστις ζητεί το κακόν, θέλει επέλθει επ' αυτόν.
28 He who trusteth in his riches shall fall; But the righteous shall flourish as a leaf.
Όστις ελπίζει επί τον πλούτον αυτού, ούτος θέλει πέσει· οι δε δίκαιοι ως βλαστός θέλουσιν ανθήσει.
29 He that harasseth his household shall inherit wind; And the fool shall be the servant of the wise.
Όστις ταράττει τον οίκον αυτού, θέλει κληρονομήσει άνεμον· και ο άφρων θέλει είσθαι δούλος εις τον φρόνιμον.
30 The fruit of a righteous man is a tree of life; And the wise man winneth souls.
Ο καρπός του δικαίου είναι δένδρον ζωής· και όστις κερδίζει ψυχάς, είναι σοφός.
31 Behold, the righteous man is requited on the earth; Much more the wicked man and the sinner!
Αν ο δίκαιος παιδεύηται επί της γης, πολλώ μάλλον ο ασεβής και ο αμαρτωλός.
