Proverbs 1
1 The proverbs of Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel:
Przysłowia Salomona, syna Dawida, króla Izraela;
2 That one may learn wisdom and instruction, And receive words of understanding;
Do poznania mądrości i karności, do zrozumienia słów roztropnych;
3 That one may gain the instruction of prudence, Justice, equity, and uprightness;
Do zdobycia pouczenia w mądrości, w sprawiedliwości, w sądzie i w prawości;
4 Which will give caution to the simple, To the young man wisdom and discretion;
Do udzielenia prostym rozwagi, a młodemu – wiedzy i roztropności.
5 Let the wise man hear, and he will increase his knowledge, And the man of understanding will gain wise counsels;
Mądry posłucha i przybędzie mu wiedzy, a rozumny nabędzie rad;
6 So as to understand a proverb and a deep maxim, The words of the wise and their dark sayings.
Aby rozumieć przysłowia i [ich] wykładnię, słowa mądrych i ich zagadki.
7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Bojaźń PANA jest początkiem wiedzy, ale głupcy gardzą mądrością i karnością.
8 Hear, O my son! the instruction of thy father, And neglect not the teaching of thy mother!
Synu mój, słuchaj pouczenia swego ojca i nie odrzucaj nauki swojej matki;
9 For they shall be a graceful wreath for thy head, And a chain around thy neck.
Bo one będą wdzięczną ozdobą na twojej głowie i [kosztownym] łańcuchem na szyi.
10 My son, if sinners entice thee, Consent thou not!
Synu mój, jeśli grzesznicy cię namawiają, nie pozwalaj.
11 If they say, “Come with us, Let us lie in wait for blood, Let us lurk secretly for him who is innocent in vain;
Jeśli mówią: Chodź z nami, czyhajmy na krew, zaczajmy się na niewinnego bez powodu;
12 Let us swallow them up alive, like the underworld, Yea, in full health, as those that go down into the pit; (Sheol h7585)
Pożremy ich żywcem jak grób, całych, jak zstępujących do dołu; (Sheol h7585)
13 We shall find all kinds of precious substance, We shall fill our houses with spoil;
Znajdziemy wszelkie kosztowności, napełnimy swoje domy łupem;
14 Thou shalt cast thy lot among us; We will all have one purse;”—
Dziel z nami swój los; miejmy wszyscy jedną sakiewkę.
15 My son, walk thou not in their way, Refrain thy foot from their path!
Synu mój, nie wyruszaj z nimi w drogę; powstrzymaj swoją nogę od ich ścieżki.
16 For their feet run to evil, And make haste to shed blood.
Ich nogi bowiem biegną do zła i spieszą się do przelania krwi.
17 For as the net is spread in vain Before the eyes of any bird,
Na próżno zastawia się sieci na oczach wszelkiego ptactwa.
18 So they lie in wait for their own blood; They lurk secretly for their own lives.
Oni też czyhają na własną krew, czają się na własne życie.
19 Such are the ways of every one greedy of unjust gain; It taketh away the life of the possessor thereof.
Takie są ścieżki każdego, który jest chciwy zysku; swojemu właścicielowi [taki zysk] odbiera życie.
20 Wisdom crieth out in the highway; In the market-place she uttereth her voice;
Mądrość woła na dworze, podnosi swój głos na ulicach.
21 At the head of the noisy streets she crieth aloud; At the entrances of the gates, throughout the city, she proclaimeth her words [[saying]]:
Woła w największym zgiełku, u wrót bram, w mieście wygłasza swoje słowa:
22 How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? How long will scoffers delight themselves in scoffing, And fools hate knowledge?
Jak długo, prości, będziecie kochać głupotę, szydercy – lubować się w swoim szyderstwie, a głupi – nienawidzić wiedzy?
23 Turn ye at my reproof! Behold, I will pour out my spirit to you; I will make known my words to you!
Nawróćcie się na moje upomnienie; oto wyleję na was mojego ducha, oznajmię wam moje słowa.
24 “Because I have called, and ye have refused, —Because I have stretched out my hand, and no one hath regarded.
Ponieważ wołałam, a odmawialiście; wyciągałam rękę, a nikt nie zważał;
25 Because ye have rejected all my counsel, And have slighted my rebuke, —
Owszem, odrzuciliście całą moją radę i nie chcieliście [przyjąć] mojego upomnienia;
26 I also will laugh at your calamity, I will mock when your fear cometh;
Dlatego będę się śmiać z waszego nieszczęścia, będę szydzić z was, gdy przyjdzie to, czego się boicie.
27 When your fear cometh upon you like a storm. And destruction overtaketh you like a whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you.
Gdy nadejdzie jak spustoszenie to, czego się boicie, i [gdy] wasze nieszczęście nadciągnie jak wicher, gdy nadejdzie na was ucisk i cierpienie;
28 Then will they call upon me, but I will not answer! They will seek me early, But they shall not find me!
Wtedy będą mnie wzywać, a nie wysłucham; będą mnie szukać pilnie, lecz mnie nie znajdą.
29 Because they have hated knowledge, And have not chosen the fear of the LORD, —
Bo znienawidzili wiedzę i nie wybrali bojaźni PANA;
30 Because they would not attend to my counsel, And have despised all my reproof, —
Ani nie chcieli mojej rady, [ale] gardzili każdym moim upomnieniem.
31 Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own devices;
Dlatego spożyją owoc swoich dróg i będą nasyceni swymi radami.
32 Yea, the turning away of the simple shall slay them, And the carelessness of fools shall destroy them.
Bo odstępstwo prostych zabije ich i szczęście głupich zgubi ich.
33 But whoso hearkeneth to me shall dwell securely, And shall not be disquieted with the fear of evil.”
[Ale] kto mnie słucha, będzie mieszkać bezpiecznie i będzie wolny od strachu przed złem.
