Matthew 4
1 Then was Jesus led up by the Spirit into the wilderness, to be tempted by the Devil.
Dann ward Jesus vom Geist in die Wüste geführt, um von dem Teufel versucht zu werden.
2 And when he had tasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward hungry.
Und als er vierzig Tage und vierzig Nächte gefastet hatte, empfand er zuletzt Hunger.
3 And the tempter came and said to him, If thou art the Son of God, command that these stones become loaves of bread.
Da trat der Versucher zu ihm und sprach: "Bist du Gottes Sohn, so befiehl, daß sich diese Steine hier in Brot verwandeln."
4 But he answered and said, It is written, “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that proceedeth from the mouth of God.”
Doch er antwortete: "Es steht geschrieben: Der Mensch wird nicht durch Brot allein am Leben erhalten, sondern durch alles, was ihm durch Gottes Allmachtswort bereitet wird."
5 Then the Devil taketh him into the holy city, and setteth him on the pinnacle of the temple;
Dann nahm ihn der Teufel mit sich in die heilige Stadt, stellte ihn auf das flachte Dach der Tempelhalle
6 and saith to him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down; for it is written, “He will give his angels charge concerning thee; and in their hands they will bear thee up, that thou mayst not dash thy foot against a stone.”
und sprach zu ihm: "Bist du Gottes Sohn, so stürze dich hinab, denn es steht geschrieben: Er wird seinen Engeln deinetwegen Auftrag geben, und sie sollen dich auf den Händen tragen, daß du nicht mit deinem Fuß an einen Stein stoßest."
7 Jesus said to him, Again it is written, “Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God.”
Jesus aber erwiderte ihm: "Anderseits steht auch geschrieben: Du sollst den Herrn, deinen Gott, nicht versuchen."
8 Again, the Devil taketh him m an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world, and their glory;
Weiter nahm ihn der Teufel mit sich auf einen sehr hohen Berg. Von dort aus zeigte er ihm alle Reiche der Welt mit ihrer Pracht
9 and said to him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.
und sprach zu ihm: "Dies alles will ich dir geben, wenn du vor mir niederfällst und mir huldigst."
10 Then saith Jesus to him, Be gone, Satan! for it is written, “Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
Da antwortete ihm Jesus: "Mir aus den Augen, Satan! Denn es steht geschrieben: Du sollst dem Herrn, deinem Gott, anbetend huldigen und ihn allein verehren."
11 Then the Devil leaveth him; and lo! angels came and ministered to him.
Da verließ ihn der Teufel, und nun kamen Engel herbei und brachten ihm Speise.
12 Now when Jesus heard that John had been cast into prison, he withdrew into Galilee.
Auf die Kunde, Johannes sei verhaftet worden, zog sich Jesus nach Galiläa zurück.
13 And leaving Nazara, he came and dwelt in Capernaum, on the shore of the lake, in the borders of Zebulun and Naphtali;
Er verließ Nazaret und nahm seine Wohnung in Kapernaum am See in dem Gebiet von Sebulon und Naphtali. —
14 that it might be fulfilled which was spoken through Isaiah the prophet, saying,
So erfüllte sich der Ausspruch des Propheten Jesaja:
15 “The land of Zebulun, and the land of Naphtali, by the way of the lake beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles,
Das Land Sebulon und das Land Naphtali, das Gebiet nach dem Meere zu, die Gegend östlich vom Jordan, das heidnische Galiläa
16 the people that sat in darkness, saw a great light; and upon those who sat in the region and shadow of death, light arose.”
- das Volk, das im Finstern saß, hat ein großes Licht gesehn, und denen, die in des Todes Land und Schatten wohnten, hat ein Licht geleuchtet.
17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent; for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Seit der Zeit begann Jesus öffentlich zu lehren. Seine Botschaft lautete: "Ändert euern Sinn, denn das Königreich der Himmel ist nahe herbeigekommen!"
18 And while walking by the lake of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the lake; for they were fishers.
Als Jesus (eines Tages) an dem Ufer des Galiläischen Sees wandelte, erblickte er zwei Brüder: Simon, mit dem Beinamen Petrus, und seinen Bruder Andreas; die warfen ein Wurfnetz in den See, denn sie waren Fischer.
19 And he saith to them, Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.
Und er sprach zu ihnen: "Kommt und folget mir, ich will euch zu Menschenfischern machen."
20 And they immediately left their nets, and followed him.
Da ließen sie sofort ihre Netze liegen und folgten ihm.
21 And going on from thence, he saw two other brothers, James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, in the boat with Zebedee their father, mending their nets; and he called them.
Als er dann weiterging, sah er ein anderes Brüderpaar: Jakobus, den Sohn des Zebedäus, und seinen Bruder Johannes; die brachten in ihrem Boote mit ihrem Vater Zebedäus ihre Hochseenetze in Ordnung. Und er berief sie.
22 And they immediately left the boat and their father, and followed him.
Sogleich verließen sie das Boot und ihren Vater und folgten ihm.
23 And he went round the whole of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the glad tidings of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.
Jesus zog umher in ganz Galiläa: er lehrte in ihren Versammlungshäusern, verkündigte die frohe Botschaft vom Königreiche und heilte allerlei Krankheiten und Gebrechen im Volke.
24 And his fame went forth into all Syria; and they brought to him all that were sick, afflicted with various diseases and torments, and those who were possessed by demons, and lunatics, and those who were struck with palsy; and he healed them.
Die Kunde von ihm ging weiter und drang durch ganz Syrien. Da brachte man zu ihm alle, die an den verschiedenartigsten Gebrechen litten: von Schmerzen Geplagte, Besessene, Mondsüchtige, Gelähmte; und er heilte sie.
25 And great multitudes followed him from Galilee and Decapolis and Jerusalem and Judaea, and from beyond the Jordan.
Es folgten ihm große Volksscharen aus Galiläa und dem Gebiete der Zehn Städte, aus Jerusalem und Judäa und aus der Gegend jenseits des Jordans.
