Matthew 26
1 And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, that he said to his disciples,
Or, il arriva, quand Jésus eut achevé tous ces discours, qu'il dit à ses disciples:
2 Ye know that after two days cometh the passover; and the Son of man is delivered up to be crucified.
Vous savez que la Pâque aura lieu dans deux jours, et que le Fils de l'homme va être livré pour être crucifié.
3 Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the court of the palace of the high-priest, named Caiaphas;
Alors les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens du peuple se réunirent dans la cour du souverain sacrificateur, nommé Caïphe,
4 and took counsel together that they might seize Jesus by craft, and put him to death.
et ils tinrent conseil pour s'emparer de Jésus par la ruse et le faire mourir.
5 But they said, Not at the feast, lest there be an uproar among the people.
Mais ils disaient: Que ce ne soit pas pendant la fête, de peur qu'il n'y ait du tumulte parmi le peuple.
6 Now when Jesus was at Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,
Comme Jésus était à Béthanie, dans la maison de Simon le lépreux,
7 there came to him a woman having an alabaster bottle of very costly ointment, and poured it on his head while he was reclining at table.
une femme s'approcha de lui, portant un vase d'albâtre plein d'un parfum de grand prix, et elle le lui répandit sur la tête, pendant qu'il était à table.
8 But the disciples seeing it, were much displeased, saying, To what purpose is this waste?
Les disciples, voyant cela, furent indignés
9 For this might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.
et dirent: A quoi bon cette perte? On pouvait vendre ce parfum très cher et en donner le prix aux pauvres.
10 And Jesus, perceiving it, said to them, Why do ye trouble the woman? For she hath done a good deed to me.
Mais Jésus, s'en étant aperçu, leur dit: Pourquoi faites-vous de la peine à cette femme? Elle a fait une bonne action à mon égard!
11 For the poor ye have always with you; but me ye have not always.
Car vous avez toujours les pauvres avec vous; mais moi, vous ne m'avez pas toujours.
12 For she, in pouring this ointment on my body, hath done it to prepare me for burial.
Si elle a répandu ce parfum sur mon corps, elle l'a fait en vue de ma sépulture.
13 Truly do I say to you, Wherever these glad tidings shall be published in the whole world, this too which she hath done will be told for a memorial of her.
En vérité, je vous le dis, partout où cet Évangile sera prêché, dans le monde entier, ce qu'elle a fait sera aussi raconté en mémoire d'elle.
14 Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests,
Alors l'un des Douze, appelé Judas Iscariote, alla trouver les principaux sacrificateurs,
15 and said, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him up to you? And they paid him thirty pieces of silver.
et il leur dit: Que voulez-vous me donner, et je vous le livrerai? Ils lui comptèrent trente pièces d'argent.
16 And from that time he sought an opportunity to deliver him up.
Et dès ce moment, il cherchait une occasion favorable pour livrer Jésus.
17 And on the first of the days of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, Where wilt thou that we make ready for thee to eat the passover?
Le premier jour de la fête des pains sans levain, les disciples s'approchèrent de Jésus et lui dirent: Où veux-tu que nous te préparions le repas de la Pâque?
18 And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say to him, The Teacher saith, My time is at hand; I keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.
Il répondit: Allez à la ville chez un tel, et dites-lui: Le Maître dit: Mon temps est proche; c'est chez toi que je célébrerai la Pâque avec mes disciples.
19 And the disciples did as Jesus directed them, and made ready the passover.
Les disciples firent ce que Jésus leur avait ordonné, et ils préparèrent la Pâque.
20 And when evening came, he took his place at table with the twelve disciples.
Le soir étant venu, Jésus se mit à table avec les douze disciples.
21 And as they were eating, he said, Truly do I say to you, that one of you will betray me.
Et comme ils mangeaient, il dit: En vérité, je vous déclare que l'un de vous me trahira.
22 And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and began every one to say to him, Is it I, Lord?
Ils furent fort affligés, et chacun d'eux se mit à lui dire: Est-ce moi, Seigneur?
23 And he answering said, He that hath dipped his hand with me in the dish, he will betray me.
Mais il répondit: Celui qui a mis la main au plat avec moi, c'est celui qui me trahira.
24 The Son of man indeed goeth away, as it hath been written concerning him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! Well were it for that man if he had not been born.
Le Fils de l'homme s'en va, conformément à ce qui a été écrit à son sujet; mais malheur à l'homme par qui le Fils de l'homme est trahi! Mieux vaudrait pour cet homme-là n'être jamais né!
25 Then Judas, his betrayer, answering said, Is it I, Rabbi? He saith to him, It is.
Judas, qui le trahissait, prit la parole et dit: Maître, est-ce moi? Jésus lui répondit: Tu l'as dit.
26 And, as they were eating, Jesus took a loaf, and having blessed, broke it, and gave it to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.
Pendant qu'ils mangeaient, Jésus prit du pain; et, après avoir rendu grâces, il le rompit, le donna à ses disciples, et dit: Prenez, mangez; ceci est mon corps.
27 And he took a cup, and gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;
Ayant aussi pris la coupe et rendu grâces, il la leur donna, en disant: Buvez-en tous!
28 for this is my blood of the covenant, which is shed for many for remission of sins.
Car ceci est mon sang, le sang de l'alliance, qui est répandu pour plusieurs, pour la rémission des péchés.
29 And I say to you, I shall not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in the kingdom of my Father.
Je vous le dis, désormais je ne boirai plus de ce fruit de la vigne, jusqu'au jour où je le boirai nouveau avec vous dans le royaume de mon Père.
30 And having sung a hymn, they went out to the Mount of Olives.
Après le chant des psaumes, ils sortirent pour se rendre à la montagne des Oliviers.
31 Then Jesus saith to them, This night will all of you fall away from me; for it is written, “I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.”
Alors Jésus leur dit: Vous allez tous trouver en moi, cette nuit, une occasion de chute; car il est écrit: «Je frapperai le berger, et les brebis du troupeau seront dispersées.»
32 But after I have risen, I will go before you into Galilee.
Mais après que je serai ressuscité, je vous précéderai en Galilée.
33 Peter answering said to him, Though all should fall away from thee, yet will I never fall away.
Pierre, prenant la parole, lui dit: Quand tu serais pour tous une occasion de chute, tu ne le seras jamais pour moi!
34 Jesus said to him, Truly do I say to thee, that this night, before a cock crows, thou wilt thrice deny me.
Jésus lui répondit: En vérité, je te déclare que cette nuit même, avant que le coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois.
35 Peter saith to him, Even if I must die with thee, I will not deny thee. And so said all the disciples.
Pierre reprit: Quand même il me faudrait mourir avec toi, je ne te renierai point! Et tous les disciples dirent la même chose.
36 Then Jesus cometh with them to a place called Gethsemane, and saith to the disciples, Sit here, while I go yonder and pray.
Jésus vint avec ses disciples dans un lieu appelé Gethsémané; et il leur dit: Asseyez- vous ici, pendant que j'irai là pour prier.
37 And taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to he sorrowful and full of anguish.
Puis, ayant pris avec lui Pierre et les deux fils de Zébédée, il commença à être saisi de tristesse et d'angoisse.
38 Then he saith to them, My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death; remain here, and watch with me.
Alors il leur dit: Mon âme est triste jusqu'à la mort; demeurez ici et veillez avec moi.
39 And he came a little nearer, and fell on his face, praying and saying, Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me! nevertheless, not as I will, but as Thou wilt.
Puis, étant allé un peu plus loin, il se jeta le visage contre terre, priant et disant: Mon Père, s'il est possible, que cette coupe passe loin de moi! Toutefois, non pas ce que je veux, mais ce que tu veux.
40 And he cometh to the disciples, and findeth them sleeping, and saith to Peter, Is it so that ye could not watch with me one hour?
Ensuite, il revint vers ses disciples et les trouva endormis; et il dit à Pierre: Ainsi, vous n'avez pu veiller une heure avec moi!
41 Watch, and pray that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.
Veillez et priez, afin que vous ne tombiez pas en tentation; l'esprit est plein de bonne volonté, mais la chair est faible.
42 Again he went away a second time, and prayed, saying, My Father, if this [[cup]] cannot pass away from me, but I must drink it, thy will be done!
Il s'en alla encore pour la seconde fois, et il pria en disant: Mon Père, s'il n'est pas possible que cette coupe passe sans que je la boive, que ta volonté soit faite!
43 And coming again he found them sleeping; for their eyes were heavy.
Étant revenu, il les trouva encore endormis; car leurs yeux étaient appesantis.
44 And leaving them, he went away again, and prayed the third time, saying again the same words.
Puis, les ayant laissés, il s'en alla de nouveau et pria pour la troisième fois, répétant les mêmes paroles.
45 Then he cometh to the disciples, and saith to them, Sleep on, and take your rest! Lo! the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is delivered up into the hands of sinners.
Alors il vint vers ses disciples et leur dit: Vous dormez maintenant, et vous vous reposez! Voici que l'heure est venue, et le Fils de l'homme va être livré entre les mains des pécheurs.
46 Rise, let us be going; lo! he is at hand that delivereth me up.
Levez-vous, allons! Voici que celui qui me trahit s'approche.
47 And while he was yet speaking, lo! Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and clubs, from the chief priests and elders of the people.
Comme il parlait encore, Judas, l'un des Douze, survint, et avec lui une grande troupe de gens armés d'épées et de bâtons, envoyés par les principaux sacrificateurs et les anciens du peuple.
48 And his betrayer had given them a sign, saying, Whomever I shall kiss, he is the man; seize him.
Celui qui le trahissait était convenu avec eux de ce signe: Celui auquel je donnerai un baiser, c'est lui, saisissez-le!
49 And immediately going up to Jesus, he said, Hail, Rabbi! and kissed him.
Et aussitôt, s'approchant de Jésus, il dit: Salut, Maître! Et il lui donna un baiser.
50 And Jesus said to him, Friend, for what hast thou come! Then they came and laid hands on Jesus, and seized him.
Mais Jésus lui dit: Mon ami, c'est donc pour cela que tu es ici? Alors ils s'approchèrent, mirent la main sur Jésus et le saisirent.
51 And, lo! one of those who were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck the servant of the high-priest, and cut off his ear.
Et voici que l'un de ceux qui étaient avec lui, étendit la main, tira son épée, en frappa le serviteur du souverain sacrificateur, et il lui emporta l'oreille.
52 Then Jesus saith to him, Put back thy sword into its place; for all they that take the sword will perish by the sword.
Alors Jésus lui dit: émets ton épée en place; car tous ceux qui prendront l'épée, périront par l'épée.
53 Dost thou think that I cannot pray to my Father, and he will now give me more than twelve legions of angels?
Crois-tu que je ne pourrais pas invoquer mon Père, qui me donnerait aussitôt plus de douze légions d'anges?
54 But how then shall the Scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?
Comment donc s'accompliraient les Écritures, d'après lesquelles il faut que tout ceci arrive?
55 In that hour Jesus said to the multitudes, Ye have come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs to take me; I sat daily teaching in the temple, and ye did not lay hands on me.
A ce moment, Jésus dit à la foule: Vous êtes sortis avec des épées et des bâtons, pour me prendre, comme si j'étais un brigand. Tous les jours, j'étais assis dans le temple et j'y enseignais, et vous ne m'avez point arrêté.
56 But all this hath been done, that the Scriptures of the prophets may be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.
Mais tout cela est arrivé, afin que fût accompli ce qui a été écrit par les prophètes. Alors tous les disciples l'abandonnèrent et s'enfuirent.
57 And they who seized Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high-priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.
Ceux qui avaient arrêté Jésus l'emmenèrent chez Caïphe, le souverain sacrificateur, où les scribes et les anciens étaient réunis.
58 But Peter followed him at a distance, as far as to the court of the high-priest's palace, and went in, and sat with the officers to see the end.
Pierre le suivit de loin jusqu'à la cour du souverain sacrificateur; il y entra et s'assit avec les gardes pour voir comment cela finirait.
59 And the chief priests and the whole council sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;
Cependant, les principaux sacrificateurs et le Sanhédrin tout entier cherchaient quelque faux témoignage contre Jésus pour le faire mourir.
60 and they found none, though many false witnesses came forward. But at last came two,
Mais ils n'en trouvaient point, bien que plusieurs faux témoins se fussent présentés. Enfin, il en vint deux, qui parlèrent ainsi:
61 and said, This man affirmed, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it within three days.
Cet homme a dit: Je puis détruire le temple de Dieu et le rebâtir en trois jours.
62 And the high-priest arose, and said to him, Dost thou make no answer to what these men testify against thee?
Alors le souverain sacrificateur se leva et lui dit: Ne réponds-tu rien à ce que ces hommes déposent contre toi? Mais Jésus gardait le silence.
63 But Jesus was silent. And the high-priest answering said to him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou art the Christ, the Son of God.
Le souverain sacrificateur, reprenant, lui dit: Je t'adjure, par le Dieu vivant, de nous dire si tu es le Christ, le Fils de Dieu.
64 Jesus saith to him, I am. Moreover I say to you, Henceforth ye will see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of Power, and coming on the clouds of heaven.
Jésus lui répondit: Tu l'as dit! Et même, je vous le déclare, désormais vous verrez le Fils de l'homme assis à la droite de la puissance de Dieu et venant sur les nuées du ciel.
65 Then the high-priest rent his garments, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? See! ye have now heard the blasphemy.
Alors le souverain sacrificateur déchira ses vêtements, en disant: Il a blasphémé; qu'avons-nous encore besoin de témoins? Vous venez d'entendre le blasphème.
66 What think ye? They answered and said, He should be punished with death.
Que vous en semble? Ils répondirent: Il mérite la mort!
67 Then they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and some smote him with the palms of their hands,
Alors ils lui crachèrent au visage, et ils lui donnèrent des coups de poing. D'autres lui donnaient des soufflets,
68 saying, Prophesy to us, O Messiah! who it was that struck thee.
en disant: Christ, prophétise! Dis-nous qui t'a frappé.
69 Now Peter was sitting outside in the court. And a maid-servant came to him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus the Galilaean.
Cependant, Pierre était assis dehors dans la cour. Une servante s'approcha de lui et lui dit: Toi aussi, tu étais avec Jésus, le Galiléen.
70 But he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.
Mais il le nia devant tous, en disant: Je ne sais ce que tu dis.
71 And when he had gone out into the porch, another woman saw him, and said to those who were there, This man was with Jesus the Nazarene.
Et comme il s'en allait vers le vestibule, une autre servante le vit et dit à ceux qui étaient là: Cet homme aussi était avec Jésus, le Nazaréen,
72 And again he denied with an oath; I do not know the man.
Mais il le nia encore, en disant avec serment: Je ne connais point cet homme.
73 And shortly after, they who were standing by came and said to Peter, Surely thou too art one of them; for thy speech betrayeth thee.
Un peu après, ceux qui étaient là, s'étant approchés, dirent à Pierre: Assurément, tu es aussi de ces gens-là; car ton langage te fait reconnaître.
74 Then he began to curse and to swear, saying, I do not know the man. And immediately a cock crew.
Alors il se mit à proférer des imprécations accompagnées de serments, en disant: Je ne connais point cet homme! Et aussitôt, le coq chanta.
75 And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, who had said, Before a cock crows, thou wilt thrice deny me. And he went out, and wept bitterly.
Pierre se souvint de la parole de Jésus qui lui avait dit: Avant que le coq chante, tu me renieras trois fois. Et, étant sorti, il pleura amèrement.
