Mark 9
1 And he said to them, Truly do I say to you, There are some of those standing here who will not taste of death, till they have seen that the kingdom of God hath come with power.
Il leur dit: « En vérité, je vous le dis, il y en a ici qui ne goûteront pas la mort avant d'avoir vu le Royaume de Dieu venir avec puissance. »
2 And after six days Jesus taketh with him Peter and James and John, and leadeth them up into a high mountain apart by themselves; and he was transfigured before them.
Six jours après, Jésus prit avec lui Pierre, Jacques et Jean, et les fit monter sur une haute montagne, à l'écart, et il fut changé en une autre forme devant eux.
3 And his garments became glistening, very white, so as no fuller on earth can whiten.
Ses vêtements devinrent étincelants, d'une blancheur extrême, comme de la neige, telle qu'aucun blanchisseur sur la terre ne peut les blanchir.
4 And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses; and they were talking with Jesus.
Élie et Moïse leur apparurent, et ils s'entretenaient avec Jésus.
5 And Peter answering saith to Jesus, Rabbi, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tents, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah.
Pierre répondit à Jésus: « Rabbi, il est bon pour nous d'être ici. Faisons trois tentes: une pour toi, une pour Moïse et une pour Élie. »
6 For he knew not what to answer; for they were struck with terror.
En effet, il ne savait pas quoi dire, car ils avaient très peur.
7 And there came a cloud overshadowing them; and a voice came out of the cloud, This is my beloved Son; hear him.
Une nuée vint les couvrir de son ombre, et une voix sortit de la nuée: « Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé. Écoutez-le. »
8 And suddenly looking round, they no longer saw any one but Jesus alone with themselves.
Soudain, regardant autour d'eux, ils ne virent plus personne avec eux, sauf Jésus seul.
9 And as they came down from the mountain, he charged them to give no account of what they had seen to any one, till the Son of man should have risen from the dead.
Comme ils descendaient de la montagne, il leur ordonna de ne dire à personne ce qu'ils avaient vu, jusqu'à ce que le Fils de l'homme fût ressuscité des morts.
10 And they kept these words in mind, questioning one another what rising from the dead might mean.
Ils gardèrent cette parole pour eux, se demandant ce que signifiait cette « résurrection des morts ».
11 And they asked him, saying, How is it that the Pharisees and scribes say that Elijah must come first?
Ils l'interrogèrent, disant: « Pourquoi les scribes disent-ils qu'Élie doit venir d'abord? »
12 And he said to them, Elijah cometh first, and restoreth all things. And how hath it been written of the Son of man? that he must suffer many things, and be set at nought.
Il leur dit: « Élie vient d'abord, et il rétablit toutes choses. Comment est-il écrit du Fils de l'homme qu'il doit souffrir beaucoup et être méprisé?
13 But I say to you that Elijah hath come, and they have done to him whatever they would; as it hath been written concerning him.
Mais je vous dis qu'Élie est venu, et qu'eux aussi lui ont fait ce qu'ils ont voulu, comme il est écrit de lui. »
14 And coming to the disciples, they saw a great multitude about them, and scribes debating with them.
Arrivant auprès des disciples, il vit une grande foule autour d'eux, et des scribes qui les interrogeaient.
15 And immediately the whole multitude on seeing him was struck with awe, and running to him, saluted him.
Aussitôt, toute la foule, en le voyant, fut très étonnée, et courant à lui, elle le salua.
16 And he asked them, About what are ye debating with them?
Il demanda aux scribes: « Que leur demandez-vous? »
17 And one of the multitude answered him, Teacher, I have brought to thee my son, who hath a dumb spirit.
Un homme de la foule répondit: « Maître, je t'ai amené mon fils, qui a un esprit muet;
18 And wherever it seizeth hold of him, it throweth him down; and he foameth and gnasheth his teeth; and he pineth away. And I spoke to thy disciples to cast it out, and they were not able.
et partout où il s'empare de lui, il le jette à terre; il a la bouche pleine d'écume, grince des dents et devient rigide. J'ai demandé à tes disciples de le chasser, et ils n'ont pas pu. »
19 He answereth and saith to them, O unbelieving generation! How long shall I be with you? How long shall I bear with you? Bring him to me.
Il lui répondit: « Génération incrédule, jusqu'à quand serai-je avec vous? Combien de temps encore vous supporterai-je? Amenez-le-moi. »
20 And they brought him to him. And as soon as he saw him, the spirit convulsed him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed, foaming.
Ils l'amenèrent à lui, et quand il le vit, l'esprit le saisit aussitôt et il tomba par terre, se vautrant et écumant la bouche.
21 And he asked his father, How long hath it been thus with him? And he said, From a child;
Il demanda à son père: « Depuis combien de temps cela lui arrive-t-il? » Il a dit: « Dès l'enfance.
22 and it hath often cast him both into fire, and into water, to destroy him; but if thou art able to do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
Souvent elle l'a jeté à la fois dans le feu et dans l'eau pour le détruire. Mais si tu peux faire quelque chose, aie pitié de nous et aide-nous. »
23 Jesus said to him, If thou art able? All things are possible for him that believeth.
Jésus lui dit: « Si tu peux croire, tout est possible à celui qui croit. »
24 The father of the child immediately cried out and said, I believe; help thou my unbelief.
Aussitôt, le père de l'enfant s'écria en pleurant: « Je crois. Aide mon incrédulité! »
25 And Jesus seeing that the multitude came running together, rebuked the unclean spirit, saying to it, Dumb and deaf spirit, I command thee, come out of him, and enter no more into him.
Voyant qu'une foule accourait, Jésus menaça l'esprit impur, en lui disant: « Esprit muet et sourd, je te l'ordonne, sors de lui, et n'y rentre plus jamais! »
26 And uttering a cry, and convulsing him much, it came out of him. And he became as one dead; so that very many said, He is dead.
Après avoir poussé des cris et l'avoir soumis à de fortes convulsions, elle sortit de lui. L'enfant devint comme un mort, au point que la plupart d'entre eux disaient: « Il est mort. »
27 But Jesus, taking hold of his hand, raised him, and he stood up.
Mais Jésus, l'ayant pris par la main, le ressuscita, et il se leva.
28 And when he had come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why could not we cast it out?
Lorsqu'il fut entré dans la maison, ses disciples lui demandèrent en privé: « Pourquoi n'avons-nous pas pu la chasser? »
29 And he said to them, This kind can go out by nothing, except by prayer.
Il leur dit: « Ce genre ne peut sortir que par la prière et le jeûne. »
30 And departing thence, they passed through Galilee; and he would not that any one should know it.
Ils partirent de là et traversèrent la Galilée. Il ne voulait pas qu'on le sache,
31 For he taught his disciples, and said to them, The Son of man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men, and they will put him to death; and when he hath been put to death, after three days he will rise again.
car il enseignait ses disciples et leur disait: « Le Fils de l'homme est livré aux mains des hommes, et ils le tueront; et quand il aura été tué, le troisième jour il ressuscitera. »
32 But they understood not what he said, and were afraid to ask him.
Mais ils ne comprenaient pas cette parole, et ils avaient peur de l'interroger.
33 And they came to Capernaum; and having come into the house, he asked them, About what were ye disputing on the road?
Il arriva à Capharnaüm. Lorsqu'il fut dans la maison, il leur demanda: « Que discutiez-vous entre vous en chemin? »
34 But they were silent; for on the road they had been disputing with one another, who was greatest.
Mais ils se taisaient, car ils s'étaient disputés en chemin pour savoir qui était le plus grand.
35 And sitting down, he called the twelve, and saith to them, If any one desire to be first, he will be last of all, and servant of all.
Il s'assit, appela les douze et leur dit: « Si quelqu'un veut être le premier, qu'il soit le dernier de tous et le serviteur de tous. »
36 And he took a child, and placed him in the midst of them, and taking him in his arms, he said to them,
Il prit un petit enfant et le plaça au milieu d'eux. Le prenant dans ses bras, il leur dit:
37 Whoever receiveth one of these children in my name, receiveth me; and whoever receiveth me, receiveth not me, but him that sent me.
« Quiconque reçoit en mon nom un tel petit enfant me reçoit; et quiconque me reçoit ne me reçoit pas, mais reçoit celui qui m'a envoyé. »
38 John said to him, Teacher, we saw one casting out demons in thy name who followeth not us; and we forbade him, because he did not follow us.
Jean lui dit: « Maître, nous avons vu quelqu'un qui ne nous suit pas, qui chasse les démons en ton nom; et nous lui avons interdit, parce qu'il ne nous suit pas. »
39 But Jesus said, Forbid him not. For no one, who shall do a miracle in my name, can readily speak evil of me.
Mais Jésus dit: « Ne l'en empêche pas, car il n'y a personne qui fasse une œuvre puissante en mon nom et qui puisse rapidement dire du mal de moi.
40 For he that is not against us is for us.
Car quiconque n'est pas contre nous est de notre côté.
41 For whoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in my name, because ye belong to Christ, truly do I say to you, he will not lose his reward.
En effet, quiconque vous donnera à boire un verre d'eau en mon nom, parce que vous êtes du Christ, je vous le dis en toute certitude, il ne perdra en rien sa récompense.
42 And whoever shall cause one of these little ones that believe to fall away, it would be better for him to have a great millstone hung round his neck, and be cast into the sea.
Quiconque fera trébucher l'un de ces petits qui croient en moi, il vaudrait mieux pour lui qu'on le jette à la mer, avec une meule de moulin suspendue à son cou.
43 And if thy hand cause thee to fall away, cut it off. It is better for thee to enter into life maimed, than having the two hands to go away into hell, into the fire that is unquenchable. (Geenna g1067)
Si ta main te fait trébucher, coupe-la. Mieux vaut pour toi entrer dans la vie mutilé, plutôt que d'aller avec tes deux mains dans la géhenne, dans le feu inextinguible, (Geenna g1067)
« où leur ver ne meurt pas, et où le feu ne s'éteint pas ».
45 And if thy foot is causing thee to fall away, cut it off; it is better for thee to enter into life lame, than having the two feet to be cast into hell. (Geenna g1067)
Si ton pied te fait trébucher, coupe-le. Mieux vaut pour toi entrer dans la vie en boitant, plutôt que d'avoir les deux pieds jetés dans la géhenne, dans le feu qui ne s'éteint pas, (Geenna g1067)
« où leur ver ne meurt pas et où le feu ne s'éteint pas ».
47 And if thine eye is causing thee to fall away, pluck it out; it is better for thee to enter into the kingdom of God with one eye, than having two eyes to be cast into hell, (Geenna g1067)
Si ton œil te fait trébucher, jette-le dehors. Mieux vaut pour toi entrer dans le royaume de Dieu avec un seul œil, que d'avoir deux yeux pour être jeté dans la géhenne de feu, (Geenna g1067)
48 where their worm dieth not, and the fire is not quenched.
« où leur ver ne meurt pas et où le feu ne s'éteint pas ».
49 For every one will be salted with fire.
Car chacun sera salé par le feu, et tout sacrifice sera assaisonné de sel.
50 Salt is good; but if the salt have lost its saltness, wherewith will ye season it? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with one another.
Le sel est bon, mais si le sel a perdu sa saveur, avec quoi l'assaisonnerez-vous? Ayez du sel en vous-mêmes, et soyez en paix les uns avec les autres. »
