Mark 8
1 In those days, there being again a great multitude, and they having nothing to eat, he called the disciples to him, and saith to them,
Il arriva encore une fois, vers cette époque, que la foule étant très nombreuse et n'ayant pas de quoi manger, Jésus appela les disciples et leur dit:
2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have remained with me now three days, and they have nothing to eat.
«J'ai compassion de cette multitude; voici déjà trois jours qu'ils ne me quittent pas et ils n'ont pas de quoi manger.
3 And if I send them away fasting to their houses, they will faint on the road; and some of them have come from altar.
Si je les renvoie chez eux à jeun, ils tomberont en défaillance sur la route; quelques-uns d'entre eux sont venus de loin.»
4 And his disciples answered him, Whence can ally one satisfy these men with bread here in a wilderness?
Ses disciples lui répondirent: «Où pourrait-on, au milieu de ce désert, trouver des pains pour les rassasier?» —
5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
«Combien de pains avez-vous?» leur demanda Jésus. — «Sept», dirent-ils.
6 And he ordered the multitude to lie down on the ground; and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and broke, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they set them before the multitude.
Il donna ordre à la foule de s'asseoir par terre. Prenant ensuite les sept pains et rendant grâces, il les rompit et les donna à ses disciples pour qu'ils en fissent la distribution; et ils les distribuèrent à la multitude.
7 And they had a few small fishes; and having blessed them, he set them before them.
Ils avaient encore quelques poissons. Jésus les bénit aussi et les fit distribuer.
8 And they ate, and were filled; and they took up of the fragments that remained, seven baskets.
Tous mangèrent et furent rassasiés. Des morceaux qui restèrent on emporta sept corbeilles;
9 And they were about four thousand; and he sent them away.
or ils étaient quatre mille environ. Ensuite Jésus les congédia.
10 And immediately going on board the boat with his disciples, he came into the region of Dalmanutha.
Immédiatement après, il monta dans la barque avec ses disciples il et se rendit dans le pays de Dalmanutha,
11 And the Pharisees came out, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, trying him.
où survinrent les Pharisiens qui se mirent à discuter avec lui, lui demandant un signe venant du ciel; c'était pour le mettre à l'épreuve.
12 And sighing deeply in his spirit, he saith, Why doth this generation seek for a sign? Truly do I say to you, A sign will not he given to this generation.
Quant à lui, il dit en soupirant du plus profond de son coeur: «Pourquoi cette race-là demande-t-elle un signe? Je vous le dis en vérité, à cette race-là il ne sera point donné de signe!»
13 And leaving them, he again went on board and crossed to the other side.
Il les laissa, remonta, dans la barque et passa sur l'autre rive.
14 And they had forgotten to take bread, and had not in the boat with them more than one loaf.
Or ils oublièrent de prendre des pains; ils n'en avaient qu'un seul avec eux dans la barque;
15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and the leaven of Herod.
et comme Jésus leur adressait cette recommandation: «Faites bien attention, prenez bien garde au levain des Pharisiens et à celui d'Hérode», —
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
ils se communiquèrent leurs pensées: «C'est parce que nous n'avons pas de pains!»
17 And knowing it, he saith to them, Why are ye reasoning, because ye have no bread? Do ye not yet perceive nor understand? Have ye your mind still blinded?
Jésus, le sachant, leur dit: «Comment pouvez-vous penser aux pains que vous n'avez pas? N'avez-vous donc encore ni compréhension, ni intelligence? Votre coeur est-il toujours aveuglés?
18 Having eyes, do ye not see? and having ears, do ye not hear? And do ye not remember,
Vous avez des yeux, vous ne voyez pas! Vous avez des oreilles, vous n'entendez pas! Vous n'avez pas de mémoire!
19 when I broke the five loaves among the five thousand, and how many baskets full of fragments ye took up? They say to him, Twelve.
Quand j'ai rompu les cinq pains pour les cinq mille hommes, combien de paniers pleins de morceaux avez-vous emportés?» — «Douze», répondirent-ils. —
20 When also the seven among the four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did ye take up? And they say, Seven.
«Et quand j'ai rompu les sept pains pour les quatre mille hommes, combien de corbeilles avez-vous remplies de morceaux et avez-vous emportées?» — «Sept», répondirent-ils. —
21 And he said to them, Do ye not yet understand?
Il reprit: «Est-ce que vous ne comprenez pas encore?»
22 And they come to Bethsaida. And they bring to him a blind man, and beseech him to touch him.
Ils arrivèrent à Bethsaïda; on lui amena un aveugle et on le pria de le toucher.
23 And taking the blind man by the hand, he led him out of the village; and spitting on his eyes, and putting his hands on him, he asked him if he saw anything.
Prenant cet homme par la main, il le conduisit hors du village. Puis il lui mit de la salive sur les yeux, posa les mains sur lui et lui demanda s'il commençait à voir.
24 And he looked up, and said, I can see men, for I see them as trees, walking.
Celui-ci regarda et répondit: «J'aperçois des hommes, parce que je vois comme des arbres qui marchent.»
25 Then he again put his hands on his eyes, and he saw clearly, and was restored, and saw all things distinctly.
Alors Jésus posa encore une fois ses mains sur les yeux de l'aveugle, qui regarda: il était guéri; il apercevait distinctement toutes choses.
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Go not into the village.
Jésus le renvoya dans sa maison en lui disant: «Ne rentre pas dans le village.»
27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, saying to them, Who do men say that I am?
Jésus s'en alla, accompagné de ses disciples, vers les villages voisins de Césarée de Philippe. Durant la route, il interrogea ses disciples; il leur dit: «Qui dit-on que je suis?»
28 And they answered him, saying, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and others, One of the prophets.
Ils lui répondirent: «Les uns, que tu es Jean Baptiste; les autres, Élie; d'autres encore, l'un des prophètes.»
29 And he asked them, But who do ye say that I am? Peter answering saith to him, Thou art the Christ.
«Mais vous, reprit-il, qui dites-vous que je suis?» Pierre répondit par ces mots: «Tu es le Christ.»
30 And he strictly charged them to tell no one concerning him.
Il leur défendit expressément de parler de lui à qui que ce soit.
31 And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be put to death, and after three days rise again;
Puis il commença à leur apprendre qu'il lui fallait, lui, le Fils de l'homme: — beaucoup souffrir; — être rejeté par les Anciens, les chefs des prêtres et les Scribes; — être mis à mort; — ressusciter au bout de trois jours.
32 and he told them this plainly. And Peter, taking him aside, began to rebuke him.
Il exposait tout cela très clairement. Le tirant alors à l'écart, Pierre se mit à le reprendre.
33 But he turning about and looking at his disciples, rebuked Peter, and saith, Get thee behind me, Satan! for thy thoughts are not on the things of God, but on those of men.
Mais lui, se retournant et regardant ses disciples, reprit sévèrement Pierre, lui disant: «Va-t'en! Arrière de moi, Satan! parce que tes pensées ne sont pas de Dieu, mais des hommes.»
34 And calling the multitude to him with his disciples also, he said to them, Whoever chooseth to follow me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Ayant appelé à lui la foule, ainsi que ses disciples, il leur dit: «Si quelqu'un veut venir derrière moi et me suivre, qu'il renonce à lui-même, qu'il porte sa croix et qu'il me suive.
35 For whoever chooseth to save his life, will lose it; but whoever shall lose his life for the sake of me and of the glad tidings, will save it.
Celui qui voudra sauver sa vie, la perdra; et il sauvera sa vie, celui qui l'aura perdue à cause de moi et de l'Évangile.
36 For what doth it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?
A quoi servira-t-il à un homme de gagner le monde entier s'il perd sa vie?
37 For what can a man give as an exchange for his life?
Qu'est-ce qu'il donnera en échange de sa vie?
38 For whoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will also the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
De celui qui, au sein de cette génération adultère et pécheresse, aura eu honte de moi et de mes paroles, le Fils de l'homme aura honte à son tour, quand il viendra dans la gloire de son Père avec les saints anges!»
