Mark 8
1 In those days, there being again a great multitude, and they having nothing to eat, he called the disciples to him, and saith to them,
Samoihin aikoihin, kun eräänä päivänä oli paljon kansaa koolla, ruoka loppui taas. Jeesus kutsui oppilaansa neuvottelemaan.
2 I have compassion on the multitude, because they have remained with me now three days, and they have nothing to eat.
»Minun tulee näitä ihmisiä sääli», hän sanoi, »sillä he ovat olleet koolla jo kolme päivää, eikä heillä ole enää mitään syötävää.
3 And if I send them away fasting to their houses, they will faint on the road; and some of them have come from altar.
Jos lähetän heidät kotiin ilman ruokaa, he nääntyvät matkalla, sillä jotkut heistä ovat tulleet hyvinkin kaukaa.»
4 And his disciples answered him, Whence can ally one satisfy these men with bread here in a wilderness?
»Ja meidänkö pitäisi löytää heille ruokaa tästä autiomaasta?» Jeesuksen oppilaat kysyivät.
5 And he asked them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven.
»Montako leipää teillä on?» Jeesus kysyi. »Seitsemän», he vastasivat.
6 And he ordered the multitude to lie down on the ground; and he took the seven loaves, and gave thanks, and broke, and gave to his disciples to set before them; and they set them before the multitude.
Niinpä hän kehotti ihmisjoukkoa istumaan maahan. Hän otti ne seitsemän leipää, kiitti niistä Jumalaa, taitteli ne palasiksi ja ojensi oppilailleen. Nämä puolestaan jakoivat ne ihmisille.
7 And they had a few small fishes; and having blessed them, he set them before them.
Joillakin ihmisillä oli mukanaan myös muutamia pieniä kaloja, jotka Jeesus siunasi ja antoi oppilaidensa tarjoiltavaksi.
8 And they ate, and were filled; and they took up of the fragments that remained, seven baskets.
Kaikki söivät itsensä kylläiseksi. Sen jälkeen Jeesus lähetti heidät kotiin. Tuona päivänä oli ihmisiä koolla noin neljätuhatta, ja kun ruuantähteet koottiin aterian jälkeen, niitä kertyi seitsemän suurta korillista.
9 And they were about four thousand; and he sent them away.
10 And immediately going on board the boat with his disciples, he came into the region of Dalmanutha.
Heti tämän jälkeen Jeesus lähti oppilaidensa kanssa veneellä Dalmanutan seudulle.
11 And the Pharisees came out, and began to question with him, seeking of him a sign from heaven, trying him.
Kun sikäläiset fariseukset kuulivat hänen saapumisestaan, he tulivat hänen luokseen saadakseen väitellä hänen kanssaan. »Tee meille jokin ihme», he sanoivat. »Näytä meille jotain yliluonnollista. Sitten me uskomme sinuun.»
12 And sighing deeply in his spirit, he saith, Why doth this generation seek for a sign? Truly do I say to you, A sign will not he given to this generation.
Tämän kuullessaan Jeesus huokasi syvään ja sanoi: »Kuinka monta ihmettä te oikein vielä tarvitsette?»
13 And leaving them, he again went on board and crossed to the other side.
Hän jätti heidät siihen, meni takaisin veneeseen ja lähti järven toiselle puolelle.
14 And they had forgotten to take bread, and had not in the boat with them more than one loaf.
Jeesuksen oppilaat olivat unohtaneet ottaa tarpeeksi ruokaa mukaan, ennen kuin lähtivät matkaan, ja heillä oli veneessä vain yksi leipä.
15 And he charged them, saying, Take heed, beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, and the leaven of Herod.
Heidän ylittäessään järvenselkää Jeesus sanoi hyvin vakavasti: »Varokaa kuningas Herodeksen ja fariseusten hapatetta.»
16 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, It is because we have no bread.
»Mitä hän nyt tarkoittaa?» oppilaat kysyivät toinen toisiltaan. He tulivat siihen tulokseen, että Jeesus oli puhunut leivän hapattamisesta ja tarkoittanut sitä, ettei heillä ollut leipää mukanaan.
17 And knowing it, he saith to them, Why are ye reasoning, because ye have no bread? Do ye not yet perceive nor understand? Have ye your mind still blinded?
Jeesus huomasi, mistä he puhuivat, ja sanoi: »Siitä ei suinkaan ole kysymys. Tarkoitin Herodeksen ja fariseusten opetuksia. Ettekö te ymmärrä? Ettekö te huomaa mitään?
18 Having eyes, do ye not see? and having ears, do ye not hear? And do ye not remember,
Jesajakin sanoi:’Teillä on silmät – miksi ette niitä käytä? Miksi ette pidä korvianne auki?’ Ettekö edes muista mitään?
19 when I broke the five loaves among the five thousand, and how many baskets full of fragments ye took up? They say to him, Twelve.
Enkö minä ruokkinut viittätuhatta miestä viidellä leivällä? Montako korillista te keräsitte ruuantähteitä syönnin jälkeen?» »Kaksitoista», oppilaat vastasivat.
20 When also the seven among the four thousand, how many baskets full of fragments did ye take up? And they say, Seven.
»Ja kun minä ruokin ne neljätuhatta seitsemällä leivällä, paljonko jäi tähteeksi?» »Seitsemän korillista», he sanoivat.
21 And he said to them, Do ye not yet understand?
»Ja kuitenkin te luulette minun olevan huolissani siitä, ettei meillä ole leipää!»
22 And they come to Bethsaida. And they bring to him a blind man, and beseech him to touch him.
Kun he saapuivat Beetsaidaan, ihmiset taluttivat heidän eteensä sokean miehen ja pyysivät Jeesusta koskettamaan häntä ja parantamaan hänet.
23 And taking the blind man by the hand, he led him out of the village; and spitting on his eyes, and putting his hands on him, he asked him if he saw anything.
Jeesus tarttui sokean käteen ja vei hänet kylän ulkopuolelle. Sitten hän sylki sokean silmiin ja laski niille kätensä. »Pystytkö nyt näkemään mitään?» Jeesus kysyi.
24 And he looked up, and said, I can see men, for I see them as trees, walking.
Mies katsoi ympärilleen. »Minä näen!» hän sanoi. »Näen ihmisiä! Mutta en pysty erottamaan heitä oikein selvästi – he näyttävät käveleviltä puunrungoilta!»
25 Then he again put his hands on his eyes, and he saw clearly, and was restored, and saw all things distinctly.
Sitten Jeesus pani uudelleen kätensä miehen silmille. Kun tämä tuijotti eteensä, hänen näkönsä palasi täydellisesti, ja hän ahmi silmillään ympärillä avautuvia näkymiä.
26 And he sent him away to his house, saying, Go not into the village.
Jeesus lähetti miehen kotiin perheensä luo. »Älä poikkea edes kylään», hän sanoi.
27 And Jesus went out, and his disciples, into the villages of Caesarea Philippi. And on the way he asked his disciples, saying to them, Who do men say that I am?
Jeesus ja hänen oppilaansa lähtivät Filippuksen Kesarean kyliin. Heidän kävellessään hän kysyi oppilailtaan: »Kuka minä ihmisten mielestä olen? Mitä he sanovat minusta?»
28 And they answered him, saying, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and others, One of the prophets.
»Jotkut ajattelevat sinun olevan Johannes Kastaja», oppilaat vastasivat. »Toiset sanovat, että olet Elia tai joku muu entisaikojen profeetta, joka on noussut kuolleista.»
29 And he asked them, But who do ye say that I am? Peter answering saith to him, Thou art the Christ.
Silloin Jeesus kysyi: »Kuka minä teidän mielestänne olen?» Pietari vastasi: »Sinä olet Messias.»
30 And he strictly charged them to tell no one concerning him.
Jeesus varoitti heitä kertomasta sitä kenellekään.
31 And he began to teach them that the Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and the chief priests and the scribes, and be put to death, and after three days rise again;
Sitten Jeesus alkoi kertoa heille tulevista kärsimyksistään: ylipapit ja muut juutalaisten johtomiehet kääntäisivät hänelle lopullisesti selkänsä, hänet surmattaisiin ja kolmen päivän kuluttua hän nousisi kuolleista.
32 and he told them this plainly. And Peter, taking him aside, began to rebuke him.
Hän puhui tästä heille aivan avoimesti, ja silloin Pietari veti hänet syrjään ja sanoi moittivasti: »Et saa puhua sellaisia.»
33 But he turning about and looking at his disciples, rebuked Peter, and saith, Get thee behind me, Satan! for thy thoughts are not on the things of God, but on those of men.
Jeesus kääntyi katsomaan oppilaihinsa ja sanoi sitten ankarasti Pietarille: »Väisty syrjään, saatana! Sinä näet asian ihmisen etkä Jumalan näkökulmasta!»
34 And calling the multitude to him with his disciples also, he said to them, Whoever chooseth to follow me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.
Sitten Jeesus kutsui oppilaansa ja kansanjoukon luokseen kuuntelemaan. »Jos joku teistä haluaa olla minun seuraajani», hän sanoi, »hänen on unohdettava itsensä, otettava kantaakseen ristinsä ja pysyttävä minun seurassani.
35 For whoever chooseth to save his life, will lose it; but whoever shall lose his life for the sake of me and of the glad tidings, will save it.
Joka tahtoo itse olla oman elämänsä herra, menettää elämänsä. Vain se, joka on valmis antamaan elämänsä minun hallittavakseni ja levittämään Jumalan hyvää sanomaa, saa kokea, millaista todellinen elämä on.
36 For what doth it profit a man to gain the whole world, and forfeit his life?
Ja mitä hyötyä ihmiselle on siitä, että hän voittaa koko maailman, jos hän samalla menettää sielunsa ja elämän? Sillä onko hänellä mitään sieluaan arvokkaampaa?
37 For what can a man give as an exchange for his life?
Kadotettua elämää ei osteta rahalla takaisin.
38 For whoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will also the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
Jokaista, joka häpeää minua ja minun sanomaani tänä epäuskon ja synnin aikana, minäkin häpeän kerran, kun palaan Isäni kirkkaudessa, pyhien enkelien kanssa.»
