Mark 7
1 And there come together to him the Pharisees, and some of the scribes, who came from Jerusalem;
Kerran saapui Jerusalemista juutalaisten hengellisiä johtomiehiä seuraamaan Jeesuksen toimintaa.
2 and seeing some of his disciples eating bread with defiled, that is, unwashed hands,
He huomasivat, etteivät jotkut hänen oppilaansa aina noudattaneet juutalaisten tavanomaisia puhdistusmenoja.
3 (for the Pharisees, and all the Jews, unless they wash their hands often, do not eat, holding fast the tradition of the elders;
Juutalaiset – varsinkaan fariseukset – eivät koskaan rupea syömään, ennen kuin ovat pirskotelleet vettä käsivarsilleen aina kyynärpäihin saakka, niin kuin heidän vanhat tapansa vaativat.
4 and on coming from the marketplace, unless they bathe, they do not eat; and there are many other things which they have received to hold, the dipping of cups, and pitchers, and brazen vessels; )
Niinpä heidän täytyy aina tultuaan torilta kotiin pirskotella itsensä tällä tavoin ennen kuin koskevat mihinkään ruokaan. 5 then the Pharisees and scribes ask him, Why do not thy disciples walk according to the tradition of the elders, but eat bread with defiled hands?
Nämä johtomiehet kysyivät nyt Jeesukselta: »Miksi sinun oppilaasi eivät noudata meidän ikivanhoja tapojamme? Hehän eivät suorita peseytymismenojakaan ennen kuin rupeavat syömään.»
6 And he said to them, Well did Isaiah prophesy of you hypocrites, as it is written, “This people honoreth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me.
Jeesus vastasi: »Voi teitä tekopyhiä! Profeetta Jesaja kuvasi teitä sattuvasti sanoessaan:’Nämä ihmiset kyllä puhuvat Herrasta kauniita sanoja, mutta eivät rakasta häntä. Heidän jumalanpalveluksensa on pelkkää narrinpeliä, sillä he väittävät, että Jumala käskee ihmisen noudattaa heidän tyhjänpäiväisiä sääntöjään.’ Kuinka oikeassa Jesaja olikaan!
7 But in vain do they worship me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.”
8 Laying aside, the commandment of God, ye hold fast the tradition of men.
Te ette ole tietävinännekään Jumalan selvistä käskyistä, vaan korvaatte ne omilla perinnäistavoillanne.
9 And he said to them, Full well do ye reject the commandment of God, that ye may keep your tradition!
Te suoraan sanoen hylkäätte Jumalan lait ja poljette ne jalkoihinne perinnäistapojenne tähden.
10 For Moses said, “Honor thy father and thy mother;” and, “He that curseth father or mother, let him surely die.”
Mooses esimerkiksi antoi teille Jumalan säätämän lain:’Kunnioita isääsi ja äitiäsi’ ja sanoi, että sen, joka puhui isäänsä tai äitiään vastaan, oli kuoltava.
11 But ye say, If a man say to his father or mother, Whatever thou mightst receive in aid from me is Corban, that is, a gift to God, [[he is not bound by the command. Thus]]
Mutta te sanotte, että on täysin oikein miehen olla huolehtimatta puutteessa elävistä vanhemmistaan ja selittää heille:’Ikävä kyllä en nyt voi auttaa teitä, sillä annoin Jumalalle sen, mitä minulta olisi liiennyt teille.’
12 ye suffer him no longer to do anything for his father or his mother;
13 making void the word of God by your tradition, which ye have handed down; and many such things ye do.
Näin te rikotte Jumalan lain suojellaksenne ihmisten tekemää perinnäissääntöä. Ja tämä on vain yksi monen monista esimerkeistä.»
14 And again calling the multitude to him, he said to them, Hearken to me all of you, and understand.
Sitten Jeesus kutsui kansanjoukon luokseen kuuntelemaan. »Kuulkaa, te kaikki», hän sanoi, »ja koettakaa ymmärtää.
15 Nothing that entereth into a man from without can defile him; but the things that come out of him are what defile a man.
Ei teidän sielunne siitä vahingoitu, mitä se syötte, vaan siitä, mitä te ajattelette ja sanotte!
Jos teillä on korvat, niin kuunnelkaa!»
17 And when he had gone into the house from the crowd, his disciples asked him concerning the parable.
Hän meni erääseen taloon päästäkseen pois ihmisjoukon keskeltä, ja hänen oppilaansa kysyivät häneltä, mitä hän tarkoitti sillä, mistä juuri oli puhunut.
18 And he saith to them, Are ye too so without discernment? Do ye not understand that whatever thing from without entereth into a man, cannot defile him?
»Ettekö tekään ymmärrä?» hän kysyi. »Ettekö käsitä, ettei se, mitä te syötte, vahingoita teidän sieluanne?
19 because it entereth not into his heart, but into the stomach; and goeth out into the drain, which cleanseth all kinds of food.
Sillä eihän ruoka tahraa teidän ajatusmaailmaanne, se kulkee vain ruuansulatuksen läpi.» (Sanoessaan näin hän osoitti, ettei mikään ruoka ole saastaista.)
20 And he said, That which cometh out of a man, that defileth a man.
Hän lisäsi: »Ajatusmaailma ihmisen saastuttaa.
21 For from within, out of the heart of men, come forth evil thoughts, fornications,
Sillä sisältä, ihmisen sydämestä, nousevat pahat ajatukset; niistä saavat alkunsa siveettömyys, varkaudet, murhat,
22 thefts, murders, adulteries, covetousness, iniquities, deceit, wantonness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.
uskottomuus, ahneus, häijyys, petollisuus, hillittömyys, kateus, jumalanpilkka, ylpeys ja kaikki muu mielettömyys.
23 All these evil things come from within, and defile a man.
Tällainen paha tulee sisältäpäin ja tahraa ihmisen.»
24 And rising up, he departed thence into the borders of Tyre; and entering into a house, he desired that no one should know it; but he could not escape notice.
Sitten Jeesus lähti Galileasta Tyyron ja Siidonin alueelle. Hän yritti pysytellä syrjässä, mutta se ei onnistunut. Kuten tavallista, uutinen hänen tulostaan levisi nopeasti.
25 But a woman, whose young daughter had an unclean spirit, immediately hearing of him, came in, and fell at his feet.
Heti hänen luokseen tuli eräs nainen, jonka pieni tytär oli demonin vallassa. Nainen oli kuullut Jeesuksesta ja tuli nyt, polvistui hänen jalkojensa juureen
26 The woman was a Greek, a Syrophoenician by nation; and she besought him that he would cast out the demon from her daughter.
ja kerjäsi Jeesusta vapauttamaan hänen lapsensa pahan hengen vallasta. (Nainen oli kreikkalainen, kotoisin Syyrian Foinikiasta – juutalaisten mielestä siis halveksittava pakana.)
27 And he said to her, Let the children be filled first; for it is not well to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs.
Jeesus sanoi hänelle: »Ensiksi minun on autettava omaa perhettäni – juutalaisia. Ei ole oikein ottaa lasten leipää ja heittää sitä koirille.»
28 But she answered, and saith to him, Yea, Lord; even the little dogs under the table eat of the children's crumbs.
Nainen vastasi: »Se on totta, herra. Mutta annetaanhan pöydän alla makaaville koiranpennuillekin lasten ruuantähteitä.»
29 And he said to her, For this saying go thy way; the demon hath gone out of thy daughter.
»Tuo oli hyvä vastaus», Jeesus sanoi. »Mene nyt kotiin, sillä paha henki on lähtenyt lapsestasi.»
30 And going away to her house, she found the child laid upon the bed, and the demon gone out.
Kun nainen palasi kotiin, hänen pieni tyttönsä makasi rauhallisena vuoteessaan. Demoni oli lähtenyt hänestä.
31 And again leaving the borders of Tyre, he came through Sidon to the lake of Galilee, through the midst of the borders of Decapolis.
Tyyrosta Jeesus meni Siidoniin ja sitten takaisin Genesaretin järvelle kymmenen kaupungin alueen kautta.
32 And they bring to him one that was deaf, and had an impediment in his speech, and beseech him to lay his hand upon him.
Hänen luokseen tuotiin eräs kuuro mies, joka ei pystynyt oikein puhumaankaan, ja kaikki pyysivät Jeesusta laskemaan kätensä hänen päälleen ja parantamaan hänet.
33 And taking him aside from the multitude, he put his fingers into his ears, and having spit, touched his tongue;
Jeesus vei miehen pois ihmisjoukosta ja pani sormensa hänen korviinsa. Sitten hän kostutti miehen kieltä syljellään.
34 and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and saith to him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened.
Sen jälkeen hän katsoi ylös, huokasi ja sanoi: »Aukene!»
35 And his ears were opened; and the string of his tongue was immediately loosed, and he spoke plain.
Ja heti mies pystyi sekä kuulemaan että puhumaan selvästi.
36 And he charged them to tell no one; but the more he charged them, the more did they publish it.
Jeesus kielsi ihmisjoukkoa levittämästä tietoa tapahtuneesta, mutta mitä enemmän hän ihmisiä kielsi, sitä enemmän he levittivät uutista, sillä he olivat niin ihmeissään kaikesta.
37 And they were beyond measure astonished, saying, He hath done all things well; he maketh both the deaf to hear, and the dumb to speak.
Yhä uudelleen he sanoivat: »Kaikki, mitä hän tekee, on ihmeellistä: hän parantaa jopa kuurot ja puhevikaisetkin!»
