Mark 5
1 And they came to the other side of the lake, into the country of the Gerasenes.
Ils allèrent de l'autre côté de la mer, dans le pays des Géraséniens.
2 And when he had come out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
Au moment même où il débarquait, vint à sa rencontre, sortant des sépulcres, un homme possédé d'un esprit impur.
3 who had his dwelling in the tombs; and not even with a chain could any one bind him any longer;
Il faisait sa demeure dans les tombeaux, et personne ne pouvait plus le lier même avec une chaîne.
4 because he had often been bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been snapped asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces; and no one could master him;
Plusieurs fois on l’avait enchaîné; on lui avait mis les fers aux pieds; mais il avait rompu les chaînes et brisé les fers, et nul n'avait la force de s'en rendre maître.
5 and continually, night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying out, and cutting himself, with stones.
Il ne cessait nuit et jour d'errer parmi les sépulcres et sur les montagnes, en jetant des cris et en se meurtrissant contre les rochers.
6 And seeing Jesus afar off, he ran and bowed down before him,
De loin, il aperçut Jésus; il courut se prosterner devant lui
7 and cried out with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, do not torment me.
et lui dit, en criant de toutes ses forces: «Qu'y a-t-il entre moi et toit, Jésus, Fils du Dieu Très-Haut? Au nom de Dieu, je t'en conjure, ne me torture point.
8 For he was saying to him, Unclean spirit, come out from the man.
(En effet, Jésus lui disait: «Esprit impur, sors de cet homme.»)
9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he saith to him, Legion is my name; for we are many.
Puis il l'interrogea: «Quel est ton nom?» «Mon nom, répondit-il, est Légion, car nous sommes nombreux.»
10 And he besought him much not to send them out of the country.
Et cette Légion le suppliait de ne pas l'expulser du pays.
11 Now there was there, by the mountain, a great herd of swine feeding.
Or il y avait là, paissant sur la montagne, un grand troupeau de pourceaux,
12 And they besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
et les esprits impurs lui adressaient cette demande: «Envoie-nous dans ces pourceaux, afin que nous entrions en eux».
13 And he gave them leave. And the unclean spirits coming out, entered into the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep into the lake, about two thousand, and were drowned in the lake.
Jésus le leur permit. Alors ils partirent et entrèrent dans les pourceaux, et, d'une course impétueuse, le troupeau se précipita dans la mer; il y en avait environ deux mille; ils se noyèrent dans les flots.
14 And they that fed them fled, and told the news in the city and in the country. And they came to see what had been done.
Les gardeurs prirent la fuite et allèrent répandre la nouvelle dans la ville et dans les campagnes. Les habitants vinrent voir ce qui s'était passé.
15 And they come to Jesus, and see him who had been possessed by demons, sitting, clothed, and in his right mind, —him who had had the legion; and they were afraid.
Ils s'approchèrent de Jésus et aperçurent assis, avec ses vêtements, et plein de bon sens, le démoniaque, celui, qui avait eu la Légion; cela leur fit peur.
16 And they who saw it told them how it befell him that was possessed by the demons, and concerning the swine.
Les témoins oculaires leur racontèrent ce qui était arrivé au démoniaque et aux pourceaux.
17 And they began to beseech him to depart from their borders.
Les habitants prièrent alors Jésus de quitter leur pays.
18 And when he was going on board the boat, he that had been possessed by the demons besought him that be might be with him.
Comme il montait dans la barque, l'homme qui avait été délivré des démons lui demanda la permission de rester avec lui.
19 And he did not permit him, but said to him, Go to thy house to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and that he hath had compassion on thee.
Jésus n'y consentit pas, mais lui dit: «Va dans ta maison, vers les tiens; apprends-leur les grandes choses que le Seigneur t'a faites et comme il a eu pitié de toi.»
20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him; and all wondered.
Cet homme partit et se mit à publier dans la Décapole les grandes choses que Jésus lui avait faites, et tous étaient dans l'admiration.
21 And when Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the ether side, a great multitude gathered about him; and he was by the lake.
Lorsque Jésus, ayant repassé l'eau dans la barque, fut de retour de l'autre côté, une foule considérable s'assembla autour de lui; et comme il était au bord de la mer,
22 And there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and seeing him, he fell at his feet,
arriva un chef de synagogue, du nom de Jaïrus, qui, en l'apercevant, alla se jeter à ses pieds
23 and besought him much, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death; I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be saved and live.
et lui adressa d'instantes prières: «Ma petite fille, lui dit-il, est à toute extrémité; viens, impose-lui les mains, afin qu'elle soit guérie et qu'elle vive.»
24 And he went with him; and a great multitude followed him, and pressed upon him.
Jésus partit avec lui, suivi d'une multitude nombreuse qui le pressait de tous côtés.
25 And a woman, who had had an issue of blood twelve years,
Or il y avait là une femme, malade d'une perte de sang depuis douze années;
26 and had undergone much at the hands of many physicians, and spent all that she had, and was not at all benefited, but rather grew worse,
elle avait beaucoup souffert entre les mains de plusieurs médecins; elle y avait dépensé tout son avoir et cela n'avait servi à rien; au contraire, son état avait plutôt empiré.
27 having heard about Jesus, came in the crowd behind, and touched his garment.
Elle avait entendu parler de Jésus, et venant dans la foule, par derrière, elle toucha son vêtement;
28 For she said, If I touch even his garments, I shall be made well.
car elle disait: «Si seulement je touche ses vêtements, je serai guérie.»
29 And immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she perceived in her body that she was cured of her plague.
Immédiatement tarit la source du sang qu'elle perdait: elle sentit en son corps qu'elle était guérie de son infirmité;
30 And Jesus immediately perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, turned round in the crowed, and said, Who touched my garments?
et, en même temps, Jésus, ayant senti en lui-même la vertu qui sortait de lui, se retourna vers la foule et dit: «Qui a touché mes vêtements?»
31 And his disciples said to him, Thou seest the multitude pressing on thee, and dost thou say, Who touched me?
Ses disciples lui répondirent: «Tu vois la foule te presser de tous côtés et tu demandes: «Qui m'a touché?»
32 And he looked round to see her who had done this.
Mais il regardait tout autour de lui pour voir celle qui avait fait cela.
33 But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done to her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
Alors la femme, toute craintive et tremblante, ayant conscience de ce qui lui était arrivé, vint se jeter à ses pieds et lui dit toute la vérité.
34 And he said to her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee well; go in peace, and be recovered from thy plague.
Et lui, il lui dit: «Ma fille, ta foi t'a guérie; va en paix et sois délivrée de ton infirmité.»
35 While he was yet speaking, there came from the house I of the ruler of the synagogue some who said, Thy daughter is dead; why dost thou trouble the Teacher any further?
Il parlait encore lorsque survinrent des gens du chef de la synagogue: «Ta fille est morte, lui dirent-ils, pourquoi fatiguer davantage le maître?»
36 And Jesus, overhearing those words, saith to the ruler of the synagogue, Fear not; only believe.
Mais Jésus, sans tenir compte de cette parole, dit au chef de synagogue: «Ne crains point, crois seulement.»
37 And he suffered no one to follow him except Peter and James, and John the brother of James.
Puis il ne permit à personne de l'accompagner, si ce n'est à Pierre, à Jacques et à Jean, frère de Jacques.
38 And they come to the house of the ruler of the synagogue; and he seeth a tumult, and people weeping and wailing greatly.
Ils arrivent à la maison du chef de synagogue. Là, Jésus a le spectacle de tout un tumulte de gens pleurant tout haut et poussant des cris.
39 And going in, he saith to them, Why do ye make this confusion and weeping? The child is not dead, but is sleeping.
Il entre et leur demande: «Pourquoi ce tumulte et ces pleurs? L'enfant n'est pas morte, mais elle dort.»
40 And they laughed him to scorn. But putting them all out, he taketh the father of the child, and the mother, and those who were with him, and entereth where the child was.
Et on se moque de lui. Mais Jésus, faisant sortir tout le monde, ne prend avec lui que le père, la mère et les disciples qui l'accompagnaient; puis il entre là où était l'enfant.
41 And taking hold of the hand of the child, he saith to her, Talitha, kum; which is, when interpreted, Damsel, I say to thee, arise!
Il lui saisit la main en disant: Talitha Koum, ce qui signifie: «Jeune fille, je te le dis, réveille-toi.»
42 And immediately the damsel arose and walked; for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were greatly astonished.
La jeune fille se leva soudain et se mit à marcher; en effet, elle avait douze ans. Ils furent sur-le-champ frappés d'une profonde stupeur.
43 And he charged them strictly that no one should know it, and bade that something should be given her to eat.
Il leur recommanda, expressément de n'en parler à personne; puis il dit de donner à manger à la jeune fille.
