Mark 5
1 And they came to the other side of the lake, into the country of the Gerasenes.
Ils abordèrent à l'autre rive de la mer, dans le pays des Gadaréniens.
2 And when he had come out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit,
A peine Jésus fut-il sorti de la barque, qu'un homme possédé d'un esprit impur vint au devant de lui.
3 who had his dwelling in the tombs; and not even with a chain could any one bind him any longer;
Il sortait des sépulcres, dont il avait fait sa demeure. Personne ne pouvait plus le tenir attaché, même avec une chaîne;
4 because he had often been bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been snapped asunder by him, and the fetters broken in pieces; and no one could master him;
car on l'avait souvent chargé de liens aux pieds, et de chaînes, et il avait brisé les chaînes, rompu les liens, de sorte que personne ne pouvait en être maître.
5 and continually, night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying out, and cutting himself, with stones.
Il ne cessait, nuit et jour, dans les sépulcres et sur les montagnes, de pousser des cris et de se meurtrir avec des pierres.
6 And seeing Jesus afar off, he ran and bowed down before him,
Il courut vers Jésus, d'aussi loin qu'il l'aperçut, se prosterna devant lui,
7 and cried out with a loud voice, and said, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, do not torment me.
et, ayant poussé un cri, il dit d'une voix forte: «Qu'y a-t-il entre toi et moi, Jésus. Fils du Dieu Très-Haut? Je t'en conjure, au nom de Dieu, ne me tourmente pas.»
8 For he was saying to him, Unclean spirit, come out from the man.
Jésus, en effet, lui avait dit: «Esprit impur, sors de cet homme.»
9 And he asked him, What is thy name? And he saith to him, Legion is my name; for we are many.
— Quel est ton nom? lui demanda Jésus. Le démoniaque lui dit: «Mon nom est Légion, car nous sommes nombreux: »
10 And he besought him much not to send them out of the country.
et il le priait instamment de ne pas les envoyer hors du pays.
11 Now there was there, by the mountain, a great herd of swine feeding.
Or il y avait là, vers la montagne, un grand troupeau de pourceaux qui paissaient,
12 And they besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.
et les démons lui adressèrent cette prière: «Envoie-nous dans ces pourceaux, afin que nous y entrions.»
13 And he gave them leave. And the unclean spirits coming out, entered into the swine; and the herd rushed down the steep into the lake, about two thousand, and were drowned in the lake.
Jésus le leur permit aussitôt. Et les esprits impurs étant sortis, entrèrent dans les pourceaux; et le troupeau, au nombre d'environ deux mille pourceaux, se rua du haut du précipice dans la mer, et s'y noya.
14 And they that fed them fled, and told the news in the city and in the country. And they came to see what had been done.
Ceux qui les gardaient s'enfuirent, et répandirent la nouvelle dans la ville et dans la campagne.
15 And they come to Jesus, and see him who had been possessed by demons, sitting, clothed, and in his right mind, —him who had had the legion; and they were afraid.
Beaucoup de gens allèrent voir ce qui était arrivé; ils vinrent vers Jésus, et virent le démoniaque, le même qui avait eu la légion, assis, vêtu et dans son bon sens; ce qui les remplit de frayeur.
16 And they who saw it told them how it befell him that was possessed by the demons, and concerning the swine.
Lorsque les témoins de ce fait leur eurent raconté comment les choses s'étaient passées pour le démoniaque, et ce qui concernait les pourceaux,
17 And they began to beseech him to depart from their borders.
ils se mirent à supplier Jésus de s'éloigner de leur pays.
18 And when he was going on board the boat, he that had been possessed by the demons besought him that be might be with him.
Comme Jésus entrait dans la barque, le démoniaque lui demanda la permission de rester avec lui.
19 And he did not permit him, but said to him, Go to thy house to thy friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee, and that he hath had compassion on thee.
Et Jésus ne le lui permit pas, mais il lui dit: «Va-t'en chez toi, vers les tiens, et rapporte-leur tout ce que le Seigneur a fait pour toi, et comme il a eu compassion de toi.»
20 And he departed, and began to publish in Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him; and all wondered.
Il s'en alla et se mit à publier dans la Décapole tout ce que Jésus avait fait pour lui; et tout le monde en était étonné.
21 And when Jesus had crossed again in the boat to the ether side, a great multitude gathered about him; and he was by the lake.
Quand Jésus eut regagné l'autre rive, dans la barque, une grande foule s'assembla près de lui. Il était au bord de la mer.
22 And there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and seeing him, he fell at his feet,
Alors vint un des chefs de la synagogue, nommé Jaïrus, qui, en le voyant, se jeta à ses pieds
23 and besought him much, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death; I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be saved and live.
et lui adressa cette instante prière: «Ma fille est à toute extrémité; viens lui imposer les mains, afin qu'elle soit guérie et qu'elle vive; »
24 And he went with him; and a great multitude followed him, and pressed upon him.
Jésus partit avec lui, et une grande foule le suivait et le pressait.
25 And a woman, who had had an issue of blood twelve years,
Une femme malade d'une hémorragie depuis douze ans,
26 and had undergone much at the hands of many physicians, and spent all that she had, and was not at all benefited, but rather grew worse,
qui avait beaucoup souffert entre les mains de plusieurs médecins, et qui, après avoir dépensé tout son bien, n'avait point été soulagée, mais avait vu plutôt son mal empirer,
27 having heard about Jesus, came in the crowd behind, and touched his garment.
ayant entendu parler de Jésus, vint se mêler à la foule et toucha par derrière son manteau;
28 For she said, If I touch even his garments, I shall be made well.
car elle se disait: «Si je puis seulement toucher ses vêtements, je serai guérie.»
29 And immediately the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she perceived in her body that she was cured of her plague.
Au même instant sa perte s'arrêta, et elle sentit dans son corps qu'elle était guérie de son infirmité.
30 And Jesus immediately perceiving in himself that power had gone out from him, turned round in the crowed, and said, Who touched my garments?
A l'instant aussi Jésus sentit intérieurement qu'une vertu était sortie de lui, et, se retournant au milieu de la foule, il dit: «Qui est-ce qui a touché mes vêtements?»
31 And his disciples said to him, Thou seest the multitude pressing on thee, and dost thou say, Who touched me?
Ses disciples lui dirent: «Tu vois que la foule te presse, et tu demandes qui t'a touché!»
32 And he looked round to see her who had done this.
Et Jésus regardait tout autour de lui, pour voir celle qui l'avait touché.
33 But the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done to her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
La femme effrayée et tremblante, sachant ce qui s'était passé en elle, vint se jeter à ses pieds, et lui dit toute la vérité.
34 And he said to her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee well; go in peace, and be recovered from thy plague.
Jésus lui dit: «Ma fille, ta foi t'a guérie; va en paix, et sois délivrée de ton infirmité.»
35 While he was yet speaking, there came from the house I of the ruler of the synagogue some who said, Thy daughter is dead; why dost thou trouble the Teacher any further?
Il parlait encore, lorsqu'on vint dire an chef de la synagogue: «Ta fille est morte; pourquoi fatiguer encore le maître?»
36 And Jesus, overhearing those words, saith to the ruler of the synagogue, Fear not; only believe.
Mais Jésus, sans s'arrêter à cette parole, dit tout de suite au chef de la synagogue: «Ne crains point, crois seulement.»
37 And he suffered no one to follow him except Peter and James, and John the brother of James.
Et il ne permit à personne de l'accompagner, si ce n'est à Pierre, à Jacques et à Jean, frère de Jacques.
38 And they come to the house of the ruler of the synagogue; and he seeth a tumult, and people weeping and wailing greatly.
Quand ils furent arrivés à la maison du chef de la synagogue, Jésus entendit un grand bruit, des gens qui pleuraient et criaient beaucoup;
39 And going in, he saith to them, Why do ye make this confusion and weeping? The child is not dead, but is sleeping.
et, étant entré, il leur dit: «Pourquoi faites-vous ce bruit et pleurez-vous? L'enfant n'est pas morte, mais elle dort.»
40 And they laughed him to scorn. But putting them all out, he taketh the father of the child, and the mother, and those who were with him, and entereth where the child was.
Et ils se moquèrent de lui. Mais, ayant fait sortir tout le monde, il prit avec lui le père de l'enfant, la mère et les disciples qui l'accompagnaient, et entra dans la chambre où était l'enfant;
41 And taking hold of the hand of the child, he saith to her, Talitha, kum; which is, when interpreted, Damsel, I say to thee, arise!
puis, la saisissant par la main, il lui dit: «Talitha Koumi; » ce qui signifie: Jeune fille, je te le commande, lève-toi.
42 And immediately the damsel arose and walked; for she was twelve years old. And immediately they were greatly astonished.
A l'instant la jeune fille se leva, et se mit à marcher, car elle avait douze ans; et les assistants furent dans un ravissement extrême.
43 And he charged them strictly that no one should know it, and bade that something should be given her to eat.
Jésus leur enjoignit expressément de n'en parler à personne; et il dit qu'on donnât à manger à l'enfant.
