Mark 4
1 And again he began to teach by the shore of the lake; and there was gathered to him a very great multitude, so that he went into a boat, and sat down in it upon the lake; and all the multitude was by the lake on the land.
Jésus se mit de nouveau à enseigner au bord de la mer; et il s'assembla près de lui une si grande foule, qu'il entra et s'assit dans une barque, sur l'eau, et toute la foule était près de la mer, sur le rivage.
2 And he taught them many things in parables, and said to them in his teaching,
Il leur enseignait beaucoup de choses en paraboles, et leur disait dans son enseignement:
3 Hearken: Behold, a sower went forth to sow.
«Écoutez: Un semeur sortit pour semer;
4 And it came to pass, as he sowed some seeds fell by the way-side; and the birds came and devoured them.
et, comme il semait, il arriva qu'une partie de la semence tomba le long du chemin: les oiseaux vinrent et la mangèrent.
5 And others fell on rocky ground, where they had not much earth; and they sprung up immediately, because they had no depth of earth.
Une autre partie tomba sur un sol pierreux, où elle n'avait pas beaucoup de terre; elle leva aussitôt, parce que le sol n'avait pas de profondeur,
6 But when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away.
et, lorsque le soleil fut levé, elle fut brûlée, et sécha, faute de racines.
7 And others fell among thorns; and the thorns grew up, and choked them, and they yielded no fruit.
Une autre partie tomba parmi les épines: les épines crurent et l'étouffèrent; et elle ne donna point de fruit.
8 And others fell on good ground, and shooting up and growing yielded fruit; and bore as much as thirty, and sixty, and a hundred fold.
Une autre partie tomba dans la bonne terre: elle donna un blé grand et bien développé, et rapporta jusqu’à trente, soixante et cent pour un.»
9 And he said, He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Et il ajouta: «Que celui qui a des oreilles pour entendre, entende.»
10 And when he was in private, they who were about him, with the twelve, asked him about the parables.
Quand la foule se fut retirée, ceux qui entouraient Jésus avec les Douze, le questionnèrent sur les paraboles;
11 And he said to them, To you hath been given the mystery of the kingdom of God; but to them, who are without, all things are done in parables; t
et il leur dit: «C'est à vous qu'a été donné le mystère du royaume de Dieu, mais pour eux, qui sont en dehors, tout se dit en paraboles,
12 hat seeing they may see, and not perceive, and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest they should turn, and be forgiven.
afin qu'en regardant, ils regardent, et ne voient point, et qu'en entendant, ils entendent et ne comprennent point; de peur qu’ils ne se convertissent, et que leurs péchés ne soient pardonnés.»
13 And he saith to them, Know ye not this parable? and how will ye know all the parables?
Et il ajouta: «Vous n'entendez pas cette parabole! comment donc comprendrez-vous toutes les autres?
14 The sower soweth the word.
Celui qui sème, sème la Parole.
15 And these are they by the wayside, those where the word is sown, and when they have heard, Satan cometh immediately, and taketh away the word that was sown in them.
Ceux qui reçoivent la semence le long du chemin, quand la Parole est semée, ce sont ceux qui l'ont à peine entendue, que Satan vient et enlève la Parole qui a été semée en eux.
16 And these in like manner are they that are sown on the rocky places, those, who, when they have heard the word, immediately receive it with joy,
De même, ceux qui reçoivent la semence dans les endroits pierreux, ce sont ceux qui, dès qu'ils entendent la Parole, la reçoivent avec joie;
17 and have no root in themselves, but endure only for a time; then, when affliction or persecution ariseth on account of the word, they immediately fall away.
mais il n'y a point en eux de racines; ils sont sans consistance: qu'ensuite l'affliction ou la persécution survienne à cause de la Parole. elle est aussitôt pour eux une occasion de chute.
18 And others are they that are sown among the thorns; these are they who hear the word,
Autres sont ceux qui reçoivent, la semence parmi les épines: ce sont ceux qui entendent la Parole,
19 but the cares of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. (aiōn g165)
et en qui les soucis du temps présent, la séduction des richesses et toutes les autres passions qui les envahissent, étouffent la Parole et la rendent infructueuse. (aiōn g165)
20 And these are they who are sown on the good ground; such as hear the word, and receive it; and bear fruit, thirty, sixty, and a hundred fold.
Enfin ceux qui ont reçu la semence dans la bonne terre, ce sont ceux qui entendent la Parole, la reçoivent et portent du fruit à raison de trente, de soixante et de cent pour un.»
21 And he said to them, Is a lamp brought to be put under the bushel, or under the bed, and not to be set on the lamp-stand?
Et il ajouta: «Apporte-t-on la lampe, pour la mettre sous le boisseau ou sous le lit? N'est-ce pas pour la mettre sur son pied?
22 For there is nothing secret, unless to be made known; nor was any thing hidden, but that it should come to light.
Car rien n'est caché, qui ne doive être révélé, rien même n'a été tenu secret, que pour venir au grand jour.
23 If any one hath ears to hear, let him hear.
Si quelqu'un a des oreilles pour entendre, qu'il entende.»
24 And he said to them, Take heed what ye hear. With what measure ye mete, it will be measured to you, and more will be added to you.
Et il ajouta: «Prenez garde à ce que vous entendez. On se servira pour vous de la mesure avec laquelle vous aurez mesuré, en y ajoutant encore pour vous;
25 For he that hath, to him will be given; and he that hath not, from him will be taken away even what he hath.
car on donnera à celui qui a, mais pour celui qui n'a pas, on lui ôtera même ce qu'il a.»
26 And he said, Thus is the kingdom of God, as when a man has cast seed upon the ground,
Il dit encore: «Il en est du royaume de Dieu comme de la semence qu'un homme a jetée en terre:
27 and sleeps and rises night and day, and the seed springs and grows up, he knows not how.
qu'il dorme ou qu'il veille, nuit et jour, la semence pousse et grandit sans qu'il sache comment.
28 For the earth brings forth fruit of itself, first the blade, then the ear, then the full grain in the ear.
La terre produit d'elle-même du fruit: d'abord de l'herbe, puis un épi, puis voilà un grain bien nourri dans l'épi.
29 But when the fruit puts itself forth, immediately he sends out the sickle, because the harvest is come.
Aussitôt que le fruit le permet, on y met la faucille, parce que c'est la moisson.
30 And he said, To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? or under what comparison shall we set it forth?
Il dit encore: «A quoi devons-nous comparer le royaume de Dieu, ou par quelle parabole faut-il le représenter?
31 It is like a grain of mustard, which, when it is sown in the earth, is less than all the seeds that are in the earth;
— Nous le comparerons à un grain de moutarde, qui, lorsqu'on le sème, est la plus petite des graines de la terre,
32 and when it is sown, it grows up, and becomes greater than all the herbs, and puts forth great branches, so that the birds of the air can lodge under its shade.
puis, quand il a été semé, il croit et devient la plus grande des plantes potagères; il pousse des branches assez grandes pour que les oiseaux du ciel puissent s'abriter à son ombre.»
33 And with many such parables he spoke the word to them, as they were able to hear.
C'était par beaucoup de paraboles de ce genre, qu'il leur annonçait la Parole, selon qu'ils étaient capables de l'entendre.
34 But without a parable he did not speak to them; but in private he explained all things to his own disciples.
Il ne leur parlait qu'en paraboles; mais, en particulier, il expliquait tout à ses disciples.
35 And on the same day, when the evening was come, he saith to them, Let us pass over to the other side.
Ce même jour, vers le soir, il leur dit: «Passons à l'autre bord.»
36 And leaving the multitude, they take him with them, as he was, in the boat; and there were also other boats with him.
Après avoir renvoyé la foule, ses disciples l'emmenèrent dans la barque, sans le déranger: d'autres petites embarcations l'accompagnaient.
37 And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves heat into the boat, so that it was already filling.
Il s'éleva un violent orage, et les vagues déferlaient sur la barque, de sorte qu'elles menaçaient de la remplir:
38 And he was in the stern, asleep on the pillow; and they awake him, and say to him, Teacher, carest thou not that we are perishing?
et Jésus était à la poupe, dormant sur l'oreiller. Les disciples le réveillèrent et lui dirent: «Maître, tu ne t'inquiètes pas de ce que nous périssons.»
39 And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said to the waves, Peace! be still! And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.
Jésus étant réveillé, tança le vent, et dit à la mer: «Tais-toi! Silence!» et le vent cessa, et il se fit un grand calme.
40 And he said to them, Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have not faith?
Alors il dit à ses disciples: «Pourquoi avez-vous peur? Comment? n'avez-vous point de foi?»
41 And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, Who then is this, that even the wind and the waves obey him?
Et ils furent saisis d'une grande terreur, et ils se dirent les uns aux autres: «Quel est donc cet homme, que le vent et la mer lui obéissent?»
