Luke 1
1 Inasmuch as many have undertaken to arrange a narrative of those things which are fully believed among us,
Puesto que muchos han tratado de poner en orden un relato de las cosas completamente ciertas entre nosotros,
2 even as they were delivered to us by those who were eye-witnesses from the beginning and became ministers of the word,
como nos las transmitieron los que desde el principio fueron testigos oculares y servidores de la Palabra,
3 it seemed good to me also, having accurately traced up all things from the first, to write to thee a connected account, most excellent Theophilus,
a mí también me pareció bien, después de investigar con diligencia todas las cosas desde el principio, escribírtelas en orden, excelentísimo Teófilo,
4 that thou mightst know the exact truth with regard to those things in which thou wast instructed.
para que conozcas exactamente la verdad con respecto a las cosas en las cuales fuiste instruido.
5 There was in the days of Herod, king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zachariah, of the course of Abijah; and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
Hubo en los días de Herodes, rey de Judea, un sacerdote llamado Zacarías, de la clase de Abías. Su esposa Elisabet era de la descendencia de Aarón.
6 And they were both righteous in the sight of God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
Ambos eran justos delante de Dios y vivían de manera irreprochable según todos los Mandamientos y Ordenanzas del Señor.
7 And they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both far advanced in years.
No tenían hijos, porque Elisabet era estéril, y ambos de edad avanzada.
8 And it came to pass, that, while he was serving as priest before God in the order of his course,
Aconteció que al ministrar él como sacerdote delante de Dios,
9 according to the custom of the priesthood the lot fell to him to go into the temple of the Lord and burn the incense.
en el turno de su clase de oficio sacerdotal, cuando entró en el Santuario del Señor, le cayó en suerte ofrecer una ofrenda de incienso.
10 And the whole multitude of the people was praying without at the time of the incense.
Todo el pueblo hablaba con Dios afuera a la hora del incienso.
11 And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing on the right of the altar of incense.
Entonces se le apareció en pie un ángel del Señor a [la] derecha del altar del incienso.
12 And Zachariah was troubled at the sight, and fear fell upon him.
Cuando Zacarías [lo] vio se perturbó y se llenó de temor.
13 But the angel said to him, Fear not, Zachariah; for thy prayer was heard, and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son; and thou shalt call his name John.
Pero el ángel le dijo: No temas, Zacarías, porque fue oída tu conversación con Dios. Tu esposa Elisabet te dará a luz un hijo y lo llamarás Juan.
14 And thou wilt have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice for his birth.
Será para ti gozo y alegría, y muchos se regocijarán por su nacimiento,
15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and will drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit from his very birth.
porque será grande delante del Señor. No beberá vino ni licor, y será lleno del Espíritu Santo aun desde el vientre de su madre.
16 And many of the sons of Israel will he turn to the Lord their God.
Y muchos de los hijos de Israel volverán al Señor su Dios.
17 And he will go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers to children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready for the Lord a prepared people.
Éste irá delante del Señor con [el ]espíritu y poder de Elías, para volver corazones de padres a hijos, y de desobedientes a [la ]prudencia de [los ]justos, a fin de preparar un pueblo dispuesto para [el] Señor.
18 And Zachariah said to the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife is far advanced in years.
Zacarías preguntó al ángel: ¿Cómo será esto? Porque yo y mi esposa somos ancianos.
19 And the angel answering said to him, I am Gabriel, who stand in the presence of God; and I was sent to speak to thee, and to tell thee these glad tidings.
Y el ángel le respondió: Yo soy Gabriel, el que está en la presencia de Dios, y fui enviado para hablar contigo y anunciarte estas Buenas Noticias.
20 And lo! thou shalt be silent, and not able to speak, until the day when these things shall come to pass, because thou didst not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their season.
Por cierto, quedarás mudo y no podrás hablar hasta el día cuando sucedan estas cosas, por cuanto no creíste mis palabras, las cuales se cumplirán a su debido tiempo.
21 And the people were looking for Zachariah, and wondering that he remained so long in the temple.
El pueblo esperaba a Zacarías y extrañaba que demoraba en el Santuario.
22 And on coming out, he was not able to speak to them; and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple; and he was beckoning to them, and remained speechless.
Cuando salió no podía hablarles. Comprendieron que había tenido una visión en el Santuario, porque les hablaba por señas y continuaba mudo.
23 And it came to pass, when the days of his ministration were completed, that he returned to his house.
Aconteció que al cumplirse los días de su ministerio, fue a su casa.
24 And after those days his wife Elizabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
Después de estos días, su esposa Elisabet concibió. Se recluyó cinco meses y decía:
25 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me to take away my reproach among men.
Así hizo conmigo [el] Señor en los días cuando me miró para quitarme una afrenta entre [los] hombres.
26 And in her sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, called Nazareth,
El sexto mes Dios envió al ángel Gabriel a Nazaret de Galilea,
27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
a una virgen comprometida con un hombre cuyo nombre era José, de la casa de David. El nombre de la virgen era María.
28 And the angel came in to her and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored! the Lord is with thee.
Cuando entró adonde estaba ella, dijo: ¡Regocíjate, muy favorecida! ¡El Señor está contigo!
29 And she was troubled at the words, and was considering what this salutation could mean.
Ella se turbó mucho por esta palabra y se preguntaba de qué clase sería esta salutación.
30 And the angel said to her, Fear not, Mary; for thou hast found favor with God.
Pero el ángel le dijo: ¡No temas, María, porque hallaste gracia ante Dios!
31 And lo! thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and hear a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
Mira, concebirás y darás a luz un Hijo. Llamarás su Nombre Jesús.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of David his father;
Éste será grande y será llamado Hijo del Altísimo. [El] Señor Dios le dará el trono de David su antepasado.
33 and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. (aiōn g165)
Reinará sobre la casa de Jacob por los siglos y su reino no tendrá fin. (aiōn g165)
34 Then said Mary to the angel, How shall this be, since I know not a man?
Entonces María preguntó al ángel: ¿Cómo será esto? Porque no me he unido a un hombre.
35 And the angel answering said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon thee, and the power of the Most High will overshadow thee; wherefore the holy one that is to be born will be called the Son of God.
El ángel le respondió: [El] Espíritu Santo vendrá sobre ti, y [el] poder del Altísimo te hará sombra, por lo cual también el Santo Ser que nacerá será llamado Hijo de Dios.
36 And lo! Elizabeth, thy kinswoman, she also hath conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her who is called barren.
Y mira, tu parienta Elisabet también concibió un hijo en su vejez, y éste es [el] sexto mes para la estéril.
37 For nothing will be impossible with God.
Porque para Dios ninguna cosa es imposible.
38 And Mary said, Lo, the handmaid of the Lord! May it be to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
Entonces María contestó: Aquí está la esclava del Señor. Que se haga conmigo según tu palabra. Y el ángel se retiró.
39 And Mary arose and went in those days into the hill-country with haste, into a city of Judah.
En aquellos días, María fue de prisa a una ciudad en la región montañosa de Judá.
40 And she entered the house of Zachariah, and saluted Elizabeth.
Entró en la casa de Zacarías y saludó a Elisabet.
41 And it came to pass, when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit,
Aconteció que cuando Elisabet oyó el saludo de María, la criatura saltó en su vientre, y Elisabet fue llena del Espíritu Santo.
42 and cried out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women; and blessed is the fruit of thy womb!
Y exclamó a gran voz: ¡Bendita tú entre [las] mujeres, y bendito el fruto de tu vientre!
43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
¿Por qué se me [concede] que venga a mí la madre de mi Señor?
44 For lo! as soon as the voice of thy salutation came to my ears, the babe leaped in my womb in exultation.
Porque mira, cuando la voz de tu saludo llegó a mis oídos, la criatura saltó de regocijo en mi vientre.
45 And blessed is she who hath believed that there will be an accomplishment of those things which were told her from the Lord.
¡Inmensamente feliz la que creyó que se cumplirán las cosas que se le dijeron de parte del Señor!
46 And Mary said, My soul magnifieth the Lord,
Entonces María exclamó: Mi alma engrandece al Señor,
47 and my spirit hath exulted in God my Saviour;
Y mi espíritu se regocija en Dios mi Salvador.
48 for he hath looked upon the low estate of his handmaiden. For lo! from this time all generations will call me blessed;
Porque miró la humilde condición de su esclava, Pues ciertamente desde ahora Todas las generaciones me llamarán inmensamente feliz.
49 for the Mighty One hath done great things for me; and holy is his name;
Porque me concedió grandes cosas el Poderoso. ¡Santo es su Nombre!
50 and his mercy is from generation to generation on them that fear him.
Su misericordia es de generación a generación Para los que le temen.
51 He hath wrought mightily with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the device of their heart.
Hizo proeza con su brazo. Esparció a los soberbios en la intención de su corazón.
52 He hath cast down princes from thrones, and exalted men of low degree.
Derribó de [sus] tronos a los poderosos, Y exaltó a los humildes.
53 The hungry he hath filled with good things, and the rich he hath sent away empty.
A los que tienen hambre colmó de bienes, Y a los ricos envió vacíos.
54 He hath given help to Israel his servant, in remembrance of his mercy
Al recordar [su] misericordia Ayudó a Israel su esclavo,
Como habló a nuestros antepasados, A Abraham y a su descendencia para siempre. (aiōn g165)
56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
María permaneció con ella como tres meses, y regresó a su casa.
57 Now Elizabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
Entonces se le cumplió a Elisabet el tiempo del parto y dio a luz un hijo.
58 And her neighbors and her kinsfolk heard that the Lord had showed great mercy toward her; and they rejoiced with her.
Sus vecinos y parientes oyeron que [el] Señor engrandeció su misericordia, y se gozaban con ella.
59 And it came to pass that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they were about to call him Zachariah, after the name of his father.
Sucedió que al octavo día fueron a circuncidar al niño, y lo llamaban Zacarías, con el nombre de su padre.
60 And his mother answering said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
Pero intervino su madre: ¡No, se llamará Juan!
61 And they said to her, There is no one of thy kindred that is called by this name.
Y le dijeron: Nadie hay de tu familia que tenga ese nombre.
62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him named.
Por señas le preguntaban a su padre cómo deseaba llamarlo.
63 And he asked for a writing-tablet, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they all marveled.
Entonces él pidió una tablilla y escribió: Juan es su nombre. Y todos se asombraron.
64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue was loosed; and he spoke, blessing God.
Al instante fue abierta su boca, y su lengua hablaba y bendecía a Dios.
65 And fear came on all that dwelt around them; and all these things were talked of throughout the whole of the hill-country of Judaea.
Hubo un temor en todos los que vivían alrededor de ellos, y en toda la región montañosa de Judea se comentaban todas estas cosas.
66 And all that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What then will this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.
Todos los que [las] oían [las] tenían en su corazón y decían: ¿Quién, pues, será este niño? Porque [la] mano del Señor ciertamente estaba con él.
67 And Zachariah his father was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,
Y su padre Zacarías fue lleno del Espíritu Santo y profetizó:
68 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel! for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
Bendito el Señor Dios de Israel, Quien visitó y redimió a su pueblo.
69 and hath raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of David his servant, —
Nos levantó un Cuerno de salvación En [la] casa de David su esclavo.
Como habló por boca de sus santos profetas, desde tiempo antiguo: (aiōn g165)
71 salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us,
Salvación de nuestros enemigos Y de [la] mano de todos los que nos aborrecen,
72 to accomplish his mercy toward our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant,
Para tener misericordia con nuestros antepasados Y recordar su santo Pacto.
73 the oath which he swore to Abraham our father,
El juramento que hizo a nuestro antepasado Abraham
74 to grant to us, that being delivered from the hand of our enemies, we might worship him without fear,
De librarnos de mano de [los] enemigos, Y concedernos que le sirvamos sin temor
75 in holiness and righteousness before him, all our days.
En santidad y justicia delante de Él Todos nuestros días.
76 And thou, child, shalt be called a prophet of the Most High; for thou shalt go in advance before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways,
¡Y tú, niño, serás llamado profeta del Altísimo! Porque irás delante del Señor Para preparar sus caminos
77 to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the remission of their sins
Y dar conocimiento de salvación Y perdón de pecados a su pueblo,
78 through the tender mercy of our God, whereby the day-spring from on high hath visited us,
A causa de [la] entrañable misericordia de nuestro Dios Con la cual la Aurora nos visitará desde [lo] alto,
79 to give light to those sitting in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
A fin de dar luz a los que viven en oscuridad y sombra de muerte, Y guiar nuestros pies hacia [el] camino de paz.
80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit; and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel.
Y el niño crecía y se fortalecía en espíritu, y estuvo en los lugares despoblados hasta [el] día de su manifestación a Israel.
