Luke 1
1 Inasmuch as many have undertaken to arrange a narrative of those things which are fully believed among us,
Como você sabe, muitas pessoas têm se esforçado para escrever as coisas que têm acontecido relacionadas a nós.
2 even as they were delivered to us by those who were eye-witnesses from the beginning and became ministers of the word,
Elas se basearam em evidências transmitidas por testemunhas e por ministros da Palavra, que acompanharam esses fatos desde o início.
3 it seemed good to me also, having accurately traced up all things from the first, to write to thee a connected account, most excellent Theophilus,
Então, eu também decidi que, por ter investigado com muito cuidado o que ocorreu desde o início, seria uma boa ideia escrever um relato preciso de tudo o que aconteceu.
4 that thou mightst know the exact truth with regard to those things in which thou wast instructed.
Eu fiz isso, querido Teófilo, para que você tenha certeza de que aquilo que lhe foi ensinado é totalmente verdadeiro.
5 There was in the days of Herod, king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zachariah, of the course of Abijah; and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
Durante o tempo em que Herodes governou a Judeia, havia um sacerdote chamado Zacarias, que era do grupo dos sacerdotes de Abias. Ele se casou com Isabel, que era descendente de Arão, o sacerdote.
6 And they were both righteous in the sight of God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
Ambos viviam de maneira justa diante de Deus, sendo muito cuidadosos em seguir todos os mandamentos e todas as leis do Senhor.
7 And they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both far advanced in years.
Eles não tinham filhos, porque Isabel não podia ter filhos, e os dois já eram muito idosos.
8 And it came to pass, that, while he was serving as priest before God in the order of his course,
Enquanto Zacarias estava fazendo o seu trabalho como sacerdote diante de Deus, representando seu grupo de sacerdotes,
9 according to the custom of the priesthood the lot fell to him to go into the temple of the Lord and burn the incense.
ele foi escolhido entre vários, de acordo com o costume da época, para entrar no Templo do Senhor e queimar o incenso.
10 And the whole multitude of the people was praying without at the time of the incense.
Durante o tempo da oferta de incenso, uma grande multidão estava orando do lado de fora do Templo.
11 And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing on the right of the altar of incense.
Um anjo do Senhor apareceu para Zacarias, ficando à direita do altar de incenso.
12 And Zachariah was troubled at the sight, and fear fell upon him.
Quando Zacarias viu o anjo, ele ficou espantado e com muito medo.
13 But the angel said to him, Fear not, Zachariah; for thy prayer was heard, and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son; and thou shalt call his name John.
Mas, o anjo lhe disse: “Não tenha medo, Zacarias! A sua oração foi ouvida. Isabel, sua esposa, lhe dará um filho e vocês devem chamá-lo João.
14 And thou wilt have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice for his birth.
Ele lhe trará muita alegria e felicidade e muitas pessoas festejarão o seu nascimento.
15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and will drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit from his very birth.
Ele será importante aos olhos do Senhor. Ele não deverá beber vinho ou qualquer outra bebida alcoólica. Ele será cheio do Espírito Santo, mesmo antes do seu nascimento.
16 And many of the sons of Israel will he turn to the Lord their God.
Ele fará com que muitos israelitas se voltem para o Senhor, o seu Deus.
17 And he will go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers to children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready for the Lord a prepared people.
Ele preparará o caminho para o Senhor com o mesmo ânimo e poder de Elias, para fazer com que os pais e seus filhos façam as pazes e para que os rebeldes voltem para o caminho certo e, assim, preparem o povo para o Senhor.”
18 And Zachariah said to the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife is far advanced in years.
“Como eu posso ter certeza disso?” Zacarias perguntou ao anjo. “Eu sou velho e minha esposa também está envelhecendo.”
19 And the angel answering said to him, I am Gabriel, who stand in the presence of God; and I was sent to speak to thee, and to tell thee these glad tidings.
O anjo respondeu: “Eu sou Gabriel. Sirvo a Deus e fui enviado para lhe dar essa boa notícia.
20 And lo! thou shalt be silent, and not able to speak, until the day when these things shall come to pass, because thou didst not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their season.
Mas, já que não acreditou no que eu lhe disse, você ficará mudo, incapaz de falar, até que minhas palavras se cumpram”.
21 And the people were looking for Zachariah, and wondering that he remained so long in the temple.
Do lado de fora do Templo, as pessoas esperavam que Zacarias saísse, pensando no motivo dele estar demorando tanto lá dentro.
22 And on coming out, he was not able to speak to them; and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple; and he was beckoning to them, and remained speechless.
Quando finalmente ele saiu, não conseguia falar com eles. Eles perceberam que ele tinha tido uma visão no Templo, pois embora pudesse gesticular e se expressar, estava completamente mudo.
23 And it came to pass, when the days of his ministration were completed, that he returned to his house.
Após haver terminado seus dias de serviço no Templo, ele voltou para casa.
24 And after those days his wife Elizabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
Algum tempo depois, sua esposa, Isabel, engravidou. Ela ficou em casa, sem sair, durante cinco meses.
25 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me to take away my reproach among men.
Isabel disse: “O Senhor fez isso por mim. Agora, a vergonha que eu sentia diante dos outros acabou!”
26 And in her sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, called Nazareth,
No sexto mês de sua gravidez, Deus enviou o anjo Gabriel para uma jovem chamada Maria, que vivia na cidade de Nazaré, na Galileia.
27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
Ela estava noiva de um homem chamado José.
28 And the angel came in to her and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored! the Lord is with thee.
O anjo a cumprimentou. Ele lhe disse: “Você é muito abençoada! O Senhor está com você!”
29 And she was troubled at the words, and was considering what this salutation could mean.
Maria estava muito confusa com o que ele disse e imaginava qual seria o significado desse cumprimento.
30 And the angel said to her, Fear not, Mary; for thou hast found favor with God.
O anjo continuou: “Não se preocupe, Maria, pois Deus veio demonstrar sua bondade para você!
31 And lo! thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and hear a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
Você ficará grávida e dará à luz um filho. Você deverá chamá-lo Jesus.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of David his father;
Ele será muito importante e será conhecido como o Filho do Altíssimo. Deus, o Senhor, dará para ele o trono de Davi, seu pai,
33 and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. (aiōn g165)
e ele reinará sobre a casa de Jacó para sempre. Seu Reino nunca se acabará.” (aiōn g165)
34 Then said Mary to the angel, How shall this be, since I know not a man?
Maria perguntou: “Como isso é possível? Eu ainda sou virgem!”
35 And the angel answering said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon thee, and the power of the Most High will overshadow thee; wherefore the holy one that is to be born will be called the Son of God.
Ele respondeu: “O Espírito Santo virá sobre você e o poder do Altíssimo a envolverá. O bebê que nascerá será santo e será chamado de Filho de Deus.
36 And lo! Elizabeth, thy kinswoman, she also hath conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her who is called barren.
E até Isabel, a sua parenta, está grávida mesmo sendo mais velha. A mulher que todos diziam que não podia ter filhos já está no sexto mês de gravidez.
37 For nothing will be impossible with God.
Nada é impossível para Deus.”
38 And Mary said, Lo, the handmaid of the Lord! May it be to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
Maria disse: “Aqui estou eu, pronta para ser a serva de Deus! Que aconteça comigo exatamente como você disse!” Então, o anjo foi embora.
39 And Mary arose and went in those days into the hill-country with haste, into a city of Judah.
Pouco tempo depois, Maria se preparou e foi depressa para as colinas da Judeia, para a cidade em que
40 And she entered the house of Zachariah, and saluted Elizabeth.
Zacarias e sua mulher moravam. Ela chamou Isabel assim que chegou.
41 And it came to pass, when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit,
No mesmo instante em que Isabel ouviu a voz de Maria, o bebê sentiu tanta alegria que mexeu dentro da sua barriga. Então, tomada pelo poder do Espírito Santo, Isabel
42 and cried out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women; and blessed is the fruit of thy womb!
falou bem alto: “Você é a mais abençoada das mulheres, e a criança que nascerá de você também será abençoada!
43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
Quem sou eu para receber a visita da mãe do meu Senhor?
44 For lo! as soon as the voice of thy salutation came to my ears, the babe leaped in my womb in exultation.
Assim que ouvi você me cumprimentar, o meu bebê se mexeu dentro da minha barriga, de tanta alegria que sentiu.
45 And blessed is she who hath believed that there will be an accomplishment of those things which were told her from the Lord.
Como você é abençoada! Pois você acredita que o Senhor fará o que lhe prometeu!”
46 And Mary said, My soul magnifieth the Lord,
Maria respondeu: “Eu louvo ao Senhor!
47 and my spirit hath exulted in God my Saviour;
Estou tão feliz com Deus, meu Salvador!
48 for he hath looked upon the low estate of his handmaiden. For lo! from this time all generations will call me blessed;
Pois ele decidiu que eu, sua serva, era digna de sua consideração, apesar de minha origem humilde. De agora em diante, todos dirão que eu fui abençoada,
49 for the Mighty One hath done great things for me; and holy is his name;
pois o Deus Poderoso fez coisas maravilhosas por mim. Seu nome é santo.
50 and his mercy is from generation to generation on them that fear him.
A sua bondade passa de geração em geração para aqueles que o respeitam.
51 He hath wrought mightily with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the device of their heart.
Com o seu poder, ele destrói os que, com arrogância, pensam que são muito espertos.
52 He hath cast down princes from thrones, and exalted men of low degree.
Ele tira de seus tronos reis poderosos e põe em altas posições os humildes.
53 The hungry he hath filled with good things, and the rich he hath sent away empty.
Ele dá aos que têm fome boas coisas para comer e manda os ricos embora de mãos vazias.
54 He hath given help to Israel his servant, in remembrance of his mercy
Exatamente como prometeu aos nossos antepassados, ele ajudou o povo de Israel, seu servo.
E se lembrou de demonstrar piedade para Abraão e seus descendentes para sempre.” (aiōn g165)
56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
Maria ficou com Isabel por três meses e, depois, voltou para sua casa.
57 Now Elizabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
Chegou o momento de Isabel ter seu bebê, e ela deu à luz um menino.
58 And her neighbors and her kinsfolk heard that the Lord had showed great mercy toward her; and they rejoiced with her.
Seus vizinhos e parentes ouviram falar de como o Senhor tinha demonstrado sua imensa bondade com Isabel e foram comemorar junto com ela.
59 And it came to pass that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they were about to call him Zachariah, after the name of his father.
Oito dias depois, vieram para fazer a circuncisão do menino. E eles queriam chamar o bebê de Zacarias, em homenagem a seu pai.
60 And his mother answering said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
Mas, Isabel disse: “Não! Ele deve se chamar João.”
61 And they said to her, There is no one of thy kindred that is called by this name.
Eles lhe disseram: “Mas, nenhum dos nossos parentes tem esse nome.”
62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him named.
Gesticulando, eles perguntaram ao pai da criança, Zacarias, qual nome ele queria para o seu filho.
63 And he asked for a writing-tablet, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they all marveled.
Zacarias mostrou, por meio de gestos, que queria algo em que pudesse escrever. Para a surpresa de todos, ele escreveu: “Seu nome é João.”
64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue was loosed; and he spoke, blessing God.
Imediatamente, ele voltou a falar e começou a louvar a Deus.
65 And fear came on all that dwelt around them; and all these things were talked of throughout the whole of the hill-country of Judaea.
Todos os vizinhos ficaram assombrados com o que havia acontecido, e a notícia se espalhou por toda a região montanhosa da Judeia.
66 And all that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What then will this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.
Todos os que ouviam a notícia pensavam sobre o significado dela. Eles perguntavam: “O que o pequenino vai ser quando crescer?” Pois era certo que o menino era muito especial para Deus.
67 And Zachariah his father was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,
Zacarias, seu pai, cheio do Espírito Santo, fez esta profecia:
68 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel! for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
“O Senhor, o Deus de Israel, é maravilhoso, pois ele veio para o seu povo e o libertou.
69 and hath raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of David his servant, —
Ele nos deu um grande Salvador, descendente do seu servo Davi,
exatamente como tinha prometido, por intermédio dos seus santos profetas, muito tempo atrás. (aiōn g165)
71 salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us,
Ele prometeu nos salvar dos nossos inimigos, daqueles que nos odeiam.
72 to accomplish his mercy toward our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant,
Ele foi bondoso para os nossos ancestrais, lembrando-se da sua santa aliança.
73 the oath which he swore to Abraham our father,
Ele fez uma promessa para o nosso antepassado Abraão.
74 to grant to us, that being delivered from the hand of our enemies, we might worship him without fear,
Ele nos libertou do medo e nos resgatou das mãos dos nossos inimigos,
75 in holiness and righteousness before him, all our days.
para que possamos servi-lo, fazendo o que é bom e certo por toda a nossa vida.
76 And thou, child, shalt be called a prophet of the Most High; for thou shalt go in advance before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways,
Apesar de você ser apenas uma criancinha, será chamado profeta do Altíssimo, pois você irá à frente do Senhor, para lhe preparar o caminho.
77 to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the remission of their sins
Você anunciará a salvação ao povo de Deus, que virá por meio do perdão dos pecados deles.
78 through the tender mercy of our God, whereby the day-spring from on high hath visited us,
Pela bondade e cuidado do nosso Deus, o sol nascente, vindo do céu, irá descer sobre nós,
79 to give light to those sitting in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
para iluminar aqueles que vivem nas trevas e na sombra da morte e para nos guiar pelo caminho da paz.”
80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit; and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel.
O menino João cresceu e se tornou espiritualmente forte. Ele viveu no deserto, até que chegou o momento de se apresentar ao povo de Israel.
