Luke 1
1 Inasmuch as many have undertaken to arrange a narrative of those things which are fully believed among us,
Επειδή πολλοί επεχείρησαν να συντάξωσι διήγησιν περί των μετά πληροφορίας βεβαιωμένων εις ημάς πραγμάτων,
2 even as they were delivered to us by those who were eye-witnesses from the beginning and became ministers of the word,
καθώς παρέδοσαν εις ημάς οι απ' αρχής γενόμενοι αυτόπται και υπηρέται του λόγου,
3 it seemed good to me also, having accurately traced up all things from the first, to write to thee a connected account, most excellent Theophilus,
εφάνη και εις εμέ εύλογον, όστις διηρεύνησα πάντα εξ αρχής ακριβώς, να σοι γράψω κατά σειράν περί τούτων, κράτιστε Θεόφιλε,
4 that thou mightst know the exact truth with regard to those things in which thou wast instructed.
διά να γνωρίσης την βεβαιότητα των πραγμάτων, περί των οποίων κατηχήθης.
5 There was in the days of Herod, king of Judaea, a certain priest named Zachariah, of the course of Abijah; and he had a wife of the daughters of Aaron, and her name was Elizabeth.
Υπήρξεν επί των ημερών Ηρώδου, του βασιλέως της Ιουδαίας, ιερεύς τις το όνομα Ζαχαρίας εκ της εφημερίας Αβιά, και η γυνή αυτού ήτο εκ των θυγατέρων του Ααρών, και το όνομα αυτής Ελισάβετ.
6 And they were both righteous in the sight of God, walking in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.
Ήσαν δε αμφότεροι δίκαιοι ενώπιον του Θεού, περιπατούντες εν πάσαις ταις εντολαίς και τοις δικαιώμασι του Κυρίου άμεμπτοι.
7 And they had no child, because Elizabeth was barren, and they were both far advanced in years.
Και δεν είχον τέκνον, καθότι η Ελισάβετ ήτο στείρα, και αμφότεροι ήσαν προβεβηκότες εις την ηλικίαν αυτών.
8 And it came to pass, that, while he was serving as priest before God in the order of his course,
Ενώ δε ιεράτευεν αυτός εν τη τάξει της εφημερίας αυτού ενώπιον του Θεού,
9 according to the custom of the priesthood the lot fell to him to go into the temple of the Lord and burn the incense.
κατά το έθος της ιερατείας έπεσεν εις αυτόν ο κλήρος να θυμιάση εισελθών εις τον ναόν του Κυρίου·
10 And the whole multitude of the people was praying without at the time of the incense.
και παν το πλήθος του λαού προσηύχετο έξω εν τη ώρα του θυμιάματος.
11 And there appeared to him an angel of the Lord, standing on the right of the altar of incense.
Εφάνη δε εις αυτόν άγγελος Κυρίου, ιστάμενος εκ δεξιών του θυσιαστηρίου του θυμιάματος·
12 And Zachariah was troubled at the sight, and fear fell upon him.
και ο Ζαχαρίας ιδών εταράχθη, και φόβος επέπεσεν επ' αυτόν.
13 But the angel said to him, Fear not, Zachariah; for thy prayer was heard, and thy wife Elizabeth shall bear thee a son; and thou shalt call his name John.
Είπε δε προς αυτόν ο άγγελος· Μη φοβού, Ζαχαρία· διότι εισηκούσθη η δέησίς σου, και η γυνή σου Ελισάβετ θέλει γεννήσει υιόν εις σε, και θέλεις καλέσει το όνομα αυτού Ιωάννην.
14 And thou wilt have joy and gladness, and many will rejoice for his birth.
και θέλει είσθαι εις σε χαρά και αγαλλίασις, και πολλοί θέλουσι χαρή διά την γέννησιν αυτού.
15 For he will be great in the sight of the Lord; and will drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he will be filled with the Holy Spirit from his very birth.
Διότι θέλει είσθαι μέγας ενώπιον του Κυρίου, και οίνον και σίκερα δεν θέλει πίει, και θέλει πληρωθή Πνεύματος Αγίου έτι εκ κοιλίας της μητρός αυτού,
16 And many of the sons of Israel will he turn to the Lord their God.
και πολλούς των υιών Ισραήλ θέλει επιστρέψει εις Κύριον τον Θεόν αυτών.
17 And he will go before his face in the spirit and power of Elijah, to turn the hearts of fathers to children, and the disobedient to the wisdom of the righteous, to make ready for the Lord a prepared people.
Και αυτός θέλει ελθεί προ προσώπου αυτού εν πνεύματι και δυνάμει Ηλίου, διά να επιστρέψη τας καρδίας των πατέρων εις τα τέκνα και τους απειθείς εις την φρόνησιν των δικαίων, διά να ετοιμάση εις τον Κύριον λαόν προδιατεθειμένον.
18 And Zachariah said to the angel, Whereby shall I know this? for I am an old man, and my wife is far advanced in years.
Και είπεν ο Ζαχαρίας προς τον άγγελον· Πως θέλω γνωρίσει τούτο; διότι εγώ είμαι γέρων, και η γυνή μου προβεβηκυία εις την ηλικίαν αυτής.
19 And the angel answering said to him, I am Gabriel, who stand in the presence of God; and I was sent to speak to thee, and to tell thee these glad tidings.
Και αποκριθείς ο άγγελος, είπε προς αυτόν· Εγώ είμαι Γαβριήλ ο παριστάμενος ενώπιον του Θεού, και απεστάλην διά να λαλήσω προς σε και να σε ευαγγελίσω ταύτα.
20 And lo! thou shalt be silent, and not able to speak, until the day when these things shall come to pass, because thou didst not believe my words, which will be fulfilled in their season.
Και ιδού, θέλεις είσθαι σιωπών και μη δυνάμενος να λαλήσης έως της ημέρας, καθ' ην θέλουσι γείνει ταύτα, διότι δεν επίστευσας εις τους λόγους μου, οίτινες θέλουσιν εκπληρωθή εις τον καιρόν αυτών.
21 And the people were looking for Zachariah, and wondering that he remained so long in the temple.
Και ο λαός περιέμενε τον Ζαχαρίαν, και εθαύμαζον ότι εβράδυνεν εν τω ναώ.
22 And on coming out, he was not able to speak to them; and they perceived that he had seen a vision in the temple; and he was beckoning to them, and remained speechless.
Ότε δε εξήλθε, δεν ηδύνατο να λαλήση προς αυτούς· και ενόησαν ότι οπτασίαν είδεν εν τω ναώ· και αυτός έκαμνεν εις αυτούς νεύματα και διέμενε κωφός.
23 And it came to pass, when the days of his ministration were completed, that he returned to his house.
Και αφού ετελείωσαν αι ημέραι της λειτουργίας αυτού, απήλθεν εις τον οίκον αυτού.
24 And after those days his wife Elizabeth conceived, and hid herself five months, saying,
Μετά δε ταύτας τας ημέρας συνέλαβεν Ελισάβετ η γυνή αυτού, και έκρυπτεν εαυτήν πέντε μήνας, λέγουσα
25 Thus hath the Lord dealt with me in the days wherein he looked on me to take away my reproach among men.
ότι ούτως έκαμεν εις εμέ ο Κύριος εν ταις ημέραις, καθ' ας επέβλεψε να αφαιρέση το όνειδός μου μεταξύ των ανθρώπων.
26 And in her sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee, called Nazareth,
Εν δε τω μηνί τω έκτω απεστάλη ο άγγελος Γαβριήλ υπό του Θεού εις πόλιν της Γαλιλαίας ονομαζομένην Ναζαρέτ,
27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin's name was Mary.
προς παρθένον ηρραβωνισμένην με άνδρα ονομαζόμενον Ιωσήφ, εξ οίκου Δαβίδ, και το όνομα της παρθένου Μαριάμ.
28 And the angel came in to her and said, Hail, thou that art highly favored! the Lord is with thee.
Και εισελθών ο άγγελος προς αυτήν, είπε· Χαίρε, κεχαριτωμένη· ο Κύριος μετά σού· ευλογημένη συ εν γυναιξίν.
29 And she was troubled at the words, and was considering what this salutation could mean.
Εκείνη δε ιδούσα διεταράχθη διά τον λόγον αυτού, και διελογίζετο οποίος τάχα ήτο ο ασπασμός ούτος.
30 And the angel said to her, Fear not, Mary; for thou hast found favor with God.
Και είπεν ο άγγελος προς αυτήν· Μη φοβού, Μαριάμ· διότι εύρες χάριν παρά τω Θεώ.
31 And lo! thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and hear a son, and shalt call his name Jesus.
Και ιδού, θέλεις συλλάβει εν γαστρί και θέλεις γεννήσει υιόν και θέλεις καλέσει το όνομα αυτού Ιησούν.
32 He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Most High; and the Lord God will give to him the throne of David his father;
Ούτος θέλει είσθαι μέγας και Υιός Υψίστου θέλει ονομασθή, και θέλει δώσει εις αυτόν Κύριος ο Θεός τον θρόνον Δαβίδ του πατρός αυτού,
33 and he shall reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there shall be no end. (aiōn g165)
και θέλει βασιλεύσει επί τον οίκον του Ιακώβ εις τους αιώνας, και της βασιλείας αυτού δεν θέλει είσθαι τέλος. (aiōn g165)
34 Then said Mary to the angel, How shall this be, since I know not a man?
Είπε δε η Μαριάμ προς τον άγγελον. Πως θέλει είσθαι τούτο, επειδή άνδρα δεν γνωρίζω;
35 And the angel answering said to her, The Holy Spirit will come upon thee, and the power of the Most High will overshadow thee; wherefore the holy one that is to be born will be called the Son of God.
Και αποκριθείς ο άγγελος είπε προς αυτήν· Πνεύμα Άγιον θέλει επέλθει επί σε, και δύναμις του Υψίστου θέλει σε επισκιάσει· διά τούτο και το γεννώμενον εκ σου άγιον θέλει ονομασθή Υιός Θεού.
36 And lo! Elizabeth, thy kinswoman, she also hath conceived a son in her old age; and this is the sixth month with her who is called barren.
και ιδού, Ελισάβετ η συγγενής σου και αυτή συνέλαβεν υιόν εις το γήρας αυτής, και ούτος είναι μην έκτος εις αυτήν την καλουμένην στείραν·
37 For nothing will be impossible with God.
διότι ουδέν πράγμα θέλει είσθαι αδύνατον παρά τω Θεώ.
38 And Mary said, Lo, the handmaid of the Lord! May it be to me according to thy word. And the angel departed from her.
Είπε δε η Μαριάμ· Ιδού, η δούλη του Κυρίου· γένοιτο εις εμέ κατά τον λόγον σου. Και ανεχώρησεν απ' αυτής ο άγγελος.
39 And Mary arose and went in those days into the hill-country with haste, into a city of Judah.
Σηκωθείσα δε η Μαριάμ εν ταις ημέραις ταύταις, υπήγε μετά σπουδής εις την ορεινήν εις πόλιν Ιούδα,
40 And she entered the house of Zachariah, and saluted Elizabeth.
και εισήλθεν εις τον οίκον Ζαχαρίου και ησπάσθη την Ελισάβετ.
41 And it came to pass, when Elizabeth heard the salutation of Mary, that the babe leaped in her womb; and Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit,
Και ως ήκουσεν η Ελισάβετ τον ασπασμόν της Μαρίας, εσκίρτησε το βρέφος εν τη κοιλία αυτής· και επλήσθη Πνεύματος Αγίου η Ελισάβετ
42 and cried out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women; and blessed is the fruit of thy womb!
και ανεφώνησε μετά φωνής μεγάλης και είπεν· Ευλογημένη συ εν γυναιξί και ευλογημένος ο καρπός της κοιλίας σου.
43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
Και πόθεν μοι τούτο, να έλθη η μήτηρ του Κυρίου μου προς με;
44 For lo! as soon as the voice of thy salutation came to my ears, the babe leaped in my womb in exultation.
Διότι ιδού, καθώς ήλθεν η φωνή του ασπασμού σου εις τα ώτα μου, εσκίρτησεν εν αγαλλιάσει το βρέφος εν τη κοιλία μου.
45 And blessed is she who hath believed that there will be an accomplishment of those things which were told her from the Lord.
Και μακαρία η πιστεύσασα, διότι θέλει γείνει εκπλήρωσις των λαληθέντων προς αυτήν παρά Κυρίου.
46 And Mary said, My soul magnifieth the Lord,
Και είπεν η Μαριάμ· Μεγαλύνει η ψυχή μου τον Κύριον
47 and my spirit hath exulted in God my Saviour;
και ηγαλλίασε το πνεύμά μου εις τον Θεόν τον Σωτήρά μου,
48 for he hath looked upon the low estate of his handmaiden. For lo! from this time all generations will call me blessed;
διότι επέβλεψεν επί την ταπείνωσιν της δούλης αυτού. Επειδή ιδού, από του νυν θέλουσι με μακαρίζει πάσαι αι γενεαί·
49 for the Mighty One hath done great things for me; and holy is his name;
διότι έκαμεν εις εμέ μεγαλεία ο δυνατός και άγιον το όνομα αυτού,
50 and his mercy is from generation to generation on them that fear him.
και το έλεος αυτού εις γενεάς γενεών επί τους φοβουμένους αυτόν.
51 He hath wrought mightily with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the device of their heart.
Ενήργησε κραταιώς διά του βραχίονος αυτού· διεσκόρπισε τους υπερηφάνους κατά τα διανοήματα της καρδίας αυτών.
52 He hath cast down princes from thrones, and exalted men of low degree.
Εκρήμνισε δυνάστας από θρόνων και ύψωσε ταπεινούς,
53 The hungry he hath filled with good things, and the rich he hath sent away empty.
πεινώντας ενέπλησεν από αγαθά και πλουτούντας εξαπέστειλε κενούς.
54 He hath given help to Israel his servant, in remembrance of his mercy
Εβοήθησεν Ισραήλ τον δούλον αυτού, ενθυμηθείς το έλεος αυτού,
Καθώς ελάλησε προς τους πατέρας ημών, προς τον Αβραάμ και προς το σπέρμα αυτού εις τον αιώνα. (aiōn g165)
56 And Mary abode with her about three months, and returned to her own house.
Έμεινε δε η Μαριάμ μετ' αυτής ως τρεις μήνας και υπέστρεψεν εις τον οίκον αυτής.
57 Now Elizabeth's full time came that she should be delivered; and she brought forth a son.
Εις δε την Ελισάβετ συνεπληρώθη ο καιρός του να γεννήση, και εγέννησεν υιόν.
58 And her neighbors and her kinsfolk heard that the Lord had showed great mercy toward her; and they rejoiced with her.
Και ήκουσαν οι γείτονες και οι συγγενείς αυτής ότι εμεγάλυνεν ο Κύριος το έλεος αυτού προς αυτήν, και συνέχαιρον αυτήν.
59 And it came to pass that on the eighth day they came to circumcise the child; and they were about to call him Zachariah, after the name of his father.
Και εν τη ογδόη ημέρα, ήλθον διά να περιτέμωσι το παιδίον, και ωνόμαζον αυτό κατά το όνομα του πατρός αυτού Ζαχαρίαν.
60 And his mother answering said, Not so; but he shall be called John.
Και αποκριθείσα η μήτηρ αυτού, είπεν· Ουχί, αλλ' Ιωάννης θέλει ονομασθή.
61 And they said to her, There is no one of thy kindred that is called by this name.
Και είπον προς αυτήν ότι ουδείς υπάρχει εν τη συγγενεία σου, όστις καλείται με το όνομα τούτο.
62 And they made signs to his father, how he would have him named.
Ηρώτων δε διά νευμάτων τον πατέρα αυτού τι όνομα ήθελε να δοθή εις αυτό.
63 And he asked for a writing-tablet, and wrote, saying, His name is John. And they all marveled.
Και ζητήσας πινακίδιον έγραψε, λέγων· Ιωάννης είναι το όνομα αυτού· και εθαύμασαν πάντες.
64 And his mouth was opened immediately, and his tongue was loosed; and he spoke, blessing God.
Ηνοίχθη δε το στόμα αυτού πάραυτα και η γλώσσα αυτού, και ελάλει ευλογών τον Θεόν.
65 And fear came on all that dwelt around them; and all these things were talked of throughout the whole of the hill-country of Judaea.
Και έπεσε φόβος επί πάντας τους γείτονας αυτών, και καθ' όλην την ορεινήν της Ιουδαίας διελαλούντο πάντα τα πράγματα ταύτα,
66 And all that heard them laid them up in their hearts, saying, What then will this child be? For the hand of the Lord was with him.
και πάντες οι ακούσαντες έβαλον αυτά εν τη καρδία αυτών, λέγοντες· Τι άρα θέλει είσθαι το παιδίον τούτο; και χειρ Κυρίου ήτο μετ' αυτού.
67 And Zachariah his father was filled with the Holy Spirit, and prophesied, saying,
Και Ζαχαρίας ο πατήρ αυτού επλήσθη Πνεύματος Αγίου και προεφήτευσε, λέγων·
68 Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel! for he hath visited and redeemed his people,
Ευλογητός Κύριος ο Θεός του Ισραήλ, διότι επεσκέφθη και έκαμε λύτρωσιν εις τον λαόν αυτού,
69 and hath raised up a horn of salvation for us in the house of David his servant, —
και ανήγειρεν εις ημάς κέρας σωτηρίας εν τω οίκω Δαβίδ του δούλου αυτού,
καθώς ελάλησε διά στόματος των αγίων, των απ' αιώνος προφητών αυτού, (aiōn g165)
71 salvation from our enemies, and from the hand of all that hate us,
σωτηρίαν εκ των εχθρών ημών και εκ της χειρός πάντων των μισούντων ημάς,
72 to accomplish his mercy toward our fathers, and to remember his holy covenant,
διά να εκπληρώση το έλεος αυτού προς τους πατέρας ημών και να ενθυμηθή την αγίαν διαθήκην αυτού,
73 the oath which he swore to Abraham our father,
τον όρκον, τον οποίον ώμοσε προς Αβραάμ τον πατέρα ημών, ότι θέλει δώσει εις ημάς
74 to grant to us, that being delivered from the hand of our enemies, we might worship him without fear,
να ελευθερωθώμεν εκ της χειρός των εχθρών ημών και να λατρεύωμεν αυτόν αφόβως
75 in holiness and righteousness before him, all our days.
εν οσιότητι και δικαιοσύνη ενώπιον αυτού πάσας τας ημέρας της ζωής ημών.
76 And thou, child, shalt be called a prophet of the Most High; for thou shalt go in advance before the face of the Lord to prepare his ways,
Και συ, παιδίον, προφήτης του Υψίστου θέλεις ονομασθή. Διότι θέλεις προπορευθή προ προσώπου του Κυρίου εις το να ετοιμάσης τας οδούς αυτού,
77 to give knowledge of salvation to his people in the remission of their sins
εις το να δώσης γνώσιν σωτηρίας εις τον λαόν αυτού διά της αφέσεως των αμαρτιών αυτών
78 through the tender mercy of our God, whereby the day-spring from on high hath visited us,
διά σπλάγχνα ελέους του Θεού ημών με τα οποία επεσκέφθη ημάς ανατολή εξ ύψους,
79 to give light to those sitting in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.
διά να φωτίση τους καθημένους εν σκότει και σκιά θανάτου, ώστε να κατευθύνη τους πόδας ημών εις οδόν ειρήνης.
80 And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit; and was in the deserts till the day of his manifestation to Israel.
Το δε παιδίον ηύξανε και εδυναμούτο κατά το πνεύμα, και ήτο εν ταις ερήμοις έως της ημέρας καθ' ην έμελλε να αναδειχθή προς τον Ισραήλ.
