Luke 9
1 And he called together the twelve, and gave them power and authority over all demons, and to cure diseases.
Il convoqua les douze et leur donna le pouvoir de vaincre tous les démons et de guérir les maladies.
2 And he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God, and to heal.
Il les envoya prêcher le Royaume de Dieu et guérir les malades.
3 And he said to them, Take nothing for the journey, neither a staff, nor a bag, nor bread, nor money, nor have two coats apiece.
Il leur dit: « Ne prenez rien pour votre voyage: ni bâton, ni portefeuille, ni pain, ni argent. N'ayez pas deux tuniques chacun.
4 And into whatever house ye enter, there abide, and from it take your departure.
Dans quelque maison que vous entriez, restez-y, et sortez de là.
5 And whoever shall not receive you, shake off, when ye leave that city, even the dust from your feet as a testimony against them.
Tous ceux qui ne vous recevront pas, en sortant de cette ville, secouez même la poussière de vos pieds, en témoignage contre eux. »
6 And they departed, and went through the towns publishing the glad tidings, and performing cures everywhere.
Ils partirent et parcoururent les villages, prêchant la Bonne Nouvelle et guérissant partout.
7 And Herod the tetrarch heard of all that was taking place, and was perplexed; because it was said by some that John had risen from the dead;
Hérode, le tétrarque, apprit tout ce qu'il avait fait, et il fut très troublé, parce que les uns disaient que Jean était ressuscité des morts,
8 and by some, that Elijah had appeared; and by others, that one of the old prophets had risen.
les autres qu'Élie était apparu, et d'autres encore qu'un des anciens prophètes était ressuscité.
9 But Herod said, John I beheaded; but who is this, about whom I hear such things? And he sought to see him.
Hérode dit: « J'ai décapité Jean, mais qui est celui-ci, dont j'entends dire tant de choses? » Il chercha à le voir.
10 And the apostles returned and told him what they had done; and taking them with him, he withdrew privately to a city called Bethsaida.
Les apôtres, à leur retour, lui racontèrent ce qu'ils avaient fait. Il les prit et se retira à l'écart, dans un endroit désert, dans une ville appelée Bethsaïda.
11 But the multitudes, when they knew it, followed him; and he welcomed them, and spoke to them about the kingdom of God, and healed those who had need of healing.
Mais la foule, s'en apercevant, le suivit. Il les accueillit, leur parla du Royaume de Dieu, et il guérit ceux qui avaient besoin d'être guéris.
12 And when the day began to decline, the twelve came and said to him, Send the multitude away, that they may go into the villages around, and the open country, and lodge, and get food; for we are here in a desert place.
Le jour commençait à baisser; les douze vinrent lui dire: « Renvoie la foule, afin qu'elle aille dans les villages et les fermes d'alentour, qu'elle se loge et se procure de la nourriture, car nous sommes ici dans un lieu désert. »
13 But he said to them, Do ye give them food. And they said, We have not more than five loaves and two fishes, unless we ourselves should go and buy food for l all these people.
Mais il leur dit: « Vous leur donnez à manger. » Ils dirent: « Nous n'avons pas plus de cinq pains et deux poissons, à moins que nous n'allions acheter de la nourriture pour tous ces gens. »
14 They were about five thousand men. And he said to his disciples, Make them lie down in companies of fifty.
Car ils étaient environ cinq mille hommes. Il dit à ses disciples: « Faites-les s'asseoir par groupes d'environ cinquante chacun. »
15 And they did so, and made them all lie down.
Ils firent ainsi, et les firent tous s'asseoir.
16 Then he took the five loaves and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed them, and broke and gave them to the disciples to set before the multitude.
Il prit les cinq pains et les deux poissons, et, levant les yeux au ciel, il les bénit, les rompit et les donna aux disciples pour qu'ils les présentent à la foule.
17 And they ate, and were all filled; and what remained to them of fragments was taken up, twelve baskets.
Ils mangèrent et furent tous rassasiés. Ils ramassèrent les douze paniers de morceaux qui restaient.
18 And it came to pass as he was in a private place praying, that his disciples were with him; and he asked them, saying, Who do the multitudes say that I am?
Comme il priait seul, les disciples étaient près de lui, et il leur demanda: « Qui les foules disent-elles que je suis? »
19 And they answering said, John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; and others, that one of the old prophets hath risen.
Ils répondirent: « Jean le Baptiseur, mais d'autres disent: Élie, et d'autres encore, qu'un des anciens prophètes est ressuscité. »
20 And he said to them, But who do ye say that I am? And Peter answering said, The Christ of God.
Il leur dit: « Mais qui dites-vous que je suis? » Pierre répondit: « Le Christ de Dieu. »
21 But he strictly charged them, and commanded them to tell this to no one;
Mais il les avertit et leur ordonna de ne le dire à personne,
22 saying, The Son of man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be put to death, and rise again on the third day.
en disant: « Il faut que le Fils de l'homme souffre beaucoup, qu'il soit rejeté par les anciens, les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes, qu'il soit tué, et qu'il ressuscite le troisième jour. »
23 And he said to all, If any one chooseth to come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
Il dit à tous: « Si quelqu'un veut venir après moi, qu'il renonce à lui-même, qu'il se charge de sa croix, et qu'il me suive.
24 For whoever chooseth to save his life, will lose it; and whoever loseth his life for my sake, he will save it.
Car quiconque veut sauver sa vie la perdra, mais quiconque perdra sa vie à cause de moi la sauvera.
25 For what is a man profited, if he gain the whole world, and lose or forfeit himself?
En effet, que sert à un homme de gagner le monde entier, s'il se perd ou se renie lui-même?
26 For whoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him will the Son of man be ashamed, when be cometh in his glory, and that of his Father, and of the holy angels.
Car quiconque aura honte de moi et de mes paroles, le Fils de l'homme aura honte de lui, quand il viendra dans sa gloire, et dans la gloire du Père et des saints anges.
27 And I tell you in truth, that there are some of those standing here who will not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God.
Mais je vous dis la vérité: parmi ceux qui se tiennent ici, il en est qui ne goûteront nullement à la mort avant d'avoir vu le Royaume de Dieu. »
28 And it came to pass about eight days after this discourse, that he took with him Peter and John and James, and went up into the mountain to pray.
Environ huit jours après ces paroles, il prit avec lui Pierre, Jean et Jacques, et monta sur la montagne pour prier.
29 And while he was praying, the appearance of his countenance was changed, and his raiment became white and glistening.
Pendant qu'il priait, l'aspect de son visage se modifia, et ses vêtements devinrent blancs et éblouissants.
30 And lo! two men were talking with him, who were Moses and Elijah;
Et voici que deux hommes s'entretenaient avec lui, qui étaient Moïse et Élie,
31 who appeared in glory, and spoke of his departure which he was about to fulfill in Jerusalem.
lesquels apparurent dans la gloire et parlèrent de son départ, qu'il allait accomplir à Jérusalem.
32 But Peter and those who were with him were weighed down with sleep. But when they awoke, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.
Or Pierre et ceux qui étaient avec lui étaient accablés de sommeil; mais, lorsqu'ils furent pleinement réveillés, ils virent sa gloire et les deux hommes qui se tenaient avec lui.
33 And it came to pass as they were parting from him, that Peter said to Jesus, Master, it is good for us to be here; and let us make three tents, one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elijah; —not knowing what he said.
Comme ils se séparaient de lui, Pierre dit à Jésus: « Maître, il est bon pour nous d'être ici. Faisons trois tentes: une pour toi, une pour Moïse et une pour Élie », sans savoir ce qu'il disait.
34 But as he was saying this, there came a cloud and overshadowed them; and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.
Comme il disait cela, une nuée vint les couvrir, et ils eurent peur en entrant dans la nuée.
35 And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, “This is my chosen Son; hear him.”
Une voix sortit de la nuée, disant: « Celui-ci est mon Fils bien-aimé. Écoutez-le! »
36 And when the voice had come, Jesus was found alone. And they kept it secret, and told no one in those days anything of what they had seen.
Lorsque la voix se fit entendre, Jésus fut trouvé seul. Ils gardèrent le silence, et ne racontèrent à personne, en ce temps-là, ce qu'ils avaient vu.
37 And it came to pass that on the next day, when they had come down from the mountain, a great multitude met him.
Le lendemain, lorsqu'ils descendirent de la montagne, une grande foule vint à sa rencontre.
38 And lo! a man from the multitude cried out, saying, Teacher, I beseech thee, look upon my son, for he is my only child;
Et voici qu'un homme de la foule s'écrie: « Maître, je te prie de regarder mon fils, car c'est mon unique enfant.
39 and lo! a spirit seizeth him, and suddenly crieth out, and convulseth him so that he foameth, and it departeth from him hardly, taking away all his strength.
Voici qu'un esprit le saisit, qu'il crie soudain, qu'il le convulse au point de le faire écumer, et qu'à peine sorti de lui, il le meurtrit gravement.
40 And I besought thy disciples to cast it out, and they could not.
J'ai supplié tes disciples de le chasser, et ils n'ont pas pu. »
41 And Jesus answering said, O unbelieving and perverse generation, how long shall I be with you, and bear with you? Bring thy son hither.
Jésus répondit: « Génération incrédule et perverse, jusqu'à quand serai-je avec vous et vous supporterai-je? Amène ton fils ici. »
42 And while he was yet coming, the demon threw him down, and convulsed him. But Jesus rebuked the unclean spirit, and healed the child, and delivered him to his father.
Comme il s'approchait encore, le démon le jeta à terre et le convulsa violemment. Mais Jésus menaça l'esprit impur, guérit le garçon et le rendit à son père.
43 And they were all amazed at the mighty power of God. But while they were all wondering at all the things which he did, he said to his disciples,
Ils étaient tous étonnés de la majesté de Dieu. Comme tous s'émerveillaient de toutes les choses que Jésus faisait, il dit à ses disciples:
44 As for you, let these words sink into your ears; for the Son of man is about to be delivered up into the hands of men.
« Laissez pénétrer ces paroles dans vos oreilles, car le Fils de l'homme sera livré aux mains des hommes. »
45 But they knew not the meaning of these words, and it was hidden from them, that they might not perceive it; and they were afraid to ask him about these words.
Mais ils ne comprirent pas cette parole. Elle leur était cachée, afin qu'ils ne la perçoivent pas, et ils avaient peur de l'interroger sur cette parole.
46 And there arose a reasoning among them, which of them was greatest.
Une dispute s'éleva parmi eux pour savoir lequel d'entre eux était le plus grand.
47 And Jesus knowing the reasoning of their heart, took a child and set him by his side,
Jésus, connaissant le raisonnement de leurs cœurs, prit un petit enfant, le plaça à ses côtés,
48 and said to them, Whoever receiveth this child in my name, receiveth me; and whoever receiveth me, receiveth him who sent me. For he that is least among you all, he is great.
et leur dit: « Quiconque reçoit ce petit enfant en mon nom me reçoit. Et celui qui me reçoit reçoit celui qui m'a envoyé. Car celui qui est le plus petit parmi vous tous, celui-là sera grand. »
49 And John answering said, Master, we saw one casting out demons in thy name, and we forbade him, because he doth not follow in our company.
Jean répondit: « Maître, nous avons vu quelqu'un qui chasse les démons en ton nom, et nous le lui avons interdit, parce qu'il ne nous suit pas. »
50 But Jesus said to him, Forbid him not; for he that is not against you is for you.
Jésus lui dit: « Ne l'empêche pas, car celui qui n'est pas contre nous est pour nous. »
51 And it came to pass, when the time was near for his being received up, that he himself steadily set his face to go to Jerusalem.
Comme les jours où il devait être enlevé étaient proches, il se disposa à aller à Jérusalem
52 And he sent messengers before him; and they went and entered a city of the Samaritans, to make ready for him.
et envoya des messagers devant lui. Ils allèrent et entrèrent dans un village des Samaritains, afin de se préparer à le recevoir.
53 And they did not receive him, because his face was as if he were going to Jerusalem.
Ils ne le reçurent pas, parce qu'il voyageait le visage tourné vers Jérusalem.
54 And the disciples James and John, on seeing it, said, Lord, wilt thou have us bid fire come down from heaven, and consume them?
Voyant cela, ses disciples, Jacques et Jean, dirent: « Seigneur, veux-tu que nous ordonnions au feu de descendre du ciel et de les détruire, comme l'a fait Élie? »
55 But he turned and rebuked them.
Mais il se retourna et les réprimanda: « Vous ne savez pas de quel esprit vous êtes.
56 And they went to another village.
Car le Fils de l'homme n'est pas venu pour détruire la vie des hommes, mais pour les sauver. » Ils se rendirent dans un autre village.
57 And as they were traveling on the way, one said to him, I will follow thee wherever thou goest.
Comme ils continuaient leur chemin, un homme lui dit: « Je veux te suivre partout où tu iras, Seigneur. »
58 And Jesus said to him, The foxes have holes, and the birds of the air have lodging-places; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.
Jésus lui dit: « Les renards ont des trous et les oiseaux du ciel des nids, mais le Fils de l'homme n'a pas où reposer sa tête. »
59 And he said to another, Follow me. But he said, Suffer me first to go and bury my father.
Il dit à un autre: « Suis-moi! » Mais il a dit: « Seigneur, permets-moi d'aller d'abord enterrer mon père. »
60 And he said to him, Let the dead bury their own dead; but go thou and carry the tidings of the kingdom of God.
Mais Jésus lui dit: « Laisse les morts enterrer leurs propres morts, mais toi, va annoncer le Royaume de Dieu. »
61 And another also said, I will follow thee, Lord; but first let me bid farewell to those who are in my house.
Un autre dit aussi: « Je veux te suivre, Seigneur, mais permets-moi d'abord de dire au revoir à ceux qui sont chez moi. »
62 And Jesus said to him, No one who looketh back after putting his hand to the plough is fit for the kingdom of God.
Mais Jésus lui dit: « Personne, ayant mis la main à la charrue et regardant en arrière, n'est apte au Royaume de Dieu. »
