Luke 7
1 When he had ended all his discourse in the hearing of the people, he entered Capernaum.
૧લોકોને બધી વાતો કહી રહ્યા પછી ઈસુ કપરનાહૂમમાં ગયા.
2 And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear to him, was sick, and about to die.
૨ત્યાં એક સૂબેદારનો ચાકર જે તેને પ્રિય હતો તે બીમાર પડ્યો હતો અને મરવાની અણી પર હતો.
3 And having heard about Jesus, he sent to him elders of the Jews, and besought him to come and save his servant.
૩ઈસુ વિશે સૂબેદારે સાંભળતાં તેણે યહૂદીઓના કેટલાક વડીલોને તેમની પાસે મોકલ્યા અને એવી વિનંતી કરી કે, ‘તમે આવીને મારા ચાકરને બચાવો.’”
4 And they came to Jesus, and besought him earnestly, saying, He is worthy that thou shouldst do this for him;
૪ત્યારે લોકોએ ઈસુની પાસે આવીને તેમને આગ્રહથી વિનંતી કરતાં કહ્યું કે, ‘જેને સારુ તમે આટલું કરો તેને તે યોગ્ય છે;
5 for he loveth our nation, and himself built the synagogue for us.
૫કારણ કે તે આપણા લોકો પર પ્રેમ રાખે છે; અને તેણે પોતાના ખર્ચે આપણે સારુ આપણું સભાસ્થાન બંધાવ્યું છે.’”
6 And Jesus went with them. And when he was now not far from the house, the centurion sent friends, saying, Lord, trouble not thyself; for I am not worthy that thou shouldst come under my roof;
૬એટલે ઈસુ તેઓની સાથે ગયા. અને ઈસુ તેના ઘરથી થોડે દૂર હતા એટલામાં સૂબેદારે ઈસુ પાસે મિત્રો મોકલીને કહેવડાવ્યું કે, ‘પ્રભુ, આપ તસ્દી ન લેશો, કેમ કે તમે મારે ઘરે આવો એવો હું યોગ્ય નથી;
7 on which account I did not think myself worthy to come to thee; but command with a word, and let my servant be healed.
૭એ કારણથી હું મારી જાતને પણ તમારી પાસે આવવા લાયક ગણ્યો નહિ; પણ તમે કેવળ શબ્દ બોલો, એટલે મારો ચાકર સાજો થશે.
8 For even I am a man set under authority, having soldiers under me; and I say to this one, Go, and he goeth; and to another, Come, and he cometh; and to my servant, Do this, and he doeth it.
૮કેમ કે હું પણ કોઈ માણસના હાથ નીચે કામ કરું છું; અને મારે પોતાના અધિકાર નીચે પણ સિપાઈઓ છે; હું એકને કહું છું કે, જા, અને તે જાય છે; અને બીજાને કહું છું કે, આવ, અને તે આવે છે; મારા ચાકરને કહું છું કે આ પ્રમાણે કર, તે કરે છે.’”
9 And Jesus hearing this, wondered at him; and turning round said to the multitude that followed him, I say to you, Not even in Israel have I found such faith.
૯એ વાત સાંભળીને ઈસુ તેનાથી આશ્ચર્ય પામ્યા, અને ફરીને પોતાની પાછળ આવેલા લોકોને ઈસુએ કહ્યું કે, ‘હું તમને કહું છું કે, આટલો બધો વિશ્વાસ મેં ઇઝરાયલમાં પણ જોયો નથી.’”
10 And they who were sent, returning to the house, found the servant well.
૧૦સૂબેદારે જેઓને મોકલ્યા હતા તેઓ પાછા ઘરે આવ્યા, ત્યારે તેઓએ બીમાર ચાકરને સાજો થયેલો જોયો.
11 And it came to pass the day after, that he was going to a city called Nain; and many of his disciples were with him, and a great multitude.
૧૧થોડા દિવસ પછી નાઈન નામના શહેરમાં ઈસુ ગયા, અને તેમના શિષ્યો તથા ઘણાં લોકો પણ તેમની સાથે ગયા.
12 And as he came near the gate of the city, lo! there was carried out dead an only son of his mother, and she was a widow; and a great multitude from the city was with her.
૧૨હવે તેઓ શહેરના દરવાજા પાસે આવ્યા ત્યારે જુઓ, તેઓ એક મરેલા માણસને બહાર લઈ જતા હતા; તે તેની માનો એકનો એક દીકરો હતો, અને તે વિધવા હતી; શહેરના ઘણાં લોક તેની સાથે હતા.
13 And when the Lord saw her, he was moved with compassion for her, and said to her, Weep not.
૧૩તેને જોઈને પ્રભુને તેના પર અનુકંપા આવી, અને ઈસુએ તે સ્ત્રીને કહ્યું કે, ‘રડીશ નહિ.’”
14 And he came up, and touched the bier; and they who bore it stood still; and he said, Young man, I say to thee, Rise.
૧૪ઈસુએ મૃત્યુ પામેલી વ્યક્તિની પાસે જઈને તેની ઠાઠડી અડક્યા એટલે તે મૃતદેહ ઊંચકનારા ઊભા રહ્યા. અને ઈસુએ કહ્યું કે, ‘જુવાન, હું તને કહું છું કે, ઊઠ સજીવન થા.’”
15 And he that was dead sat up and began to speak; and he gave him to his mother.
૧૫જે મૃત્યુ પામેલો હતો તે ઊભો થયો, અને બોલવા લાગ્યો. ઈસુએ તેને તેની માને સોંપ્યો.
16 And fear seized on all, and they gave glory to God, saying, A great prophet hath risen up among us; and, God hath visited his people.
૧૬આ જોઈને સર્વને ઘણો ભય લાગ્યો; અને તેઓએ ઈશ્વરનો મહિમા કરીને કહ્યું કે, ‘એક મોટો પ્રબોધક આપણામાં ઊભો થયો છે, અને ઈશ્વરે પોતાના લોકોની મુલાકાત લીધી છે.’”
17 And this report about him went forth in all Judaea, and in all the neighboring country.
૧૭તેમના સંબંધીની વાતો આખા યહૂદિયામાં તથા આસપાસના સઘળા પ્રદેશમાં ફેલાઈ ગઈ.
18 And the disciples of John told him all these things.
૧૮યોહાનના શિષ્યોએ એ સર્વ વાતો વિષે તેને કહી જણાવ્યું.
19 And calling to him two of his disciples, John sent them to the Lord, saying, Art thou he that is to come, or are we to look for another?
૧૯યોહાને પોતાના શિષ્યોમાંના બેને પોતાની પાસે બોલાવીને તેઓને પ્રભુની પાસે મોકલીને પુછાવ્યું કે, ‘જે આવનાર છે તે શું તમે છો, કે અમે બીજાની રાહ જોઈએ?’”
20 And the men came to him and said, John the Baptist hath sent us to thee, saying, Art thou he that is to come, or are we to look for another?
૨૦તે માણસોએ તેમની પાસે આવીને કહ્યું કે, બાપ્તિસ્મા કરનાર યોહાને તમારી પાસે અમને એવું પૂછવા મોકલ્યા છે કે, ‘જે આવનાર છે તે શું તમે છો, કે અમે બીજાની રાહ જોઈએ?’”
21 In that hour he cured many of diseases, and plagues, and evil spirits, and to many who were blind he gave sight.
૨૧તે જ વખતે ઈસુએ વિભિન્ન પ્રકારના રોગથી, પીડાથી તથા દુષ્ટાત્માઓથી રિબાતા ઘણાંઓને સાજાં કર્યા, અને ઘણાં અંધજનોને દેખતા કર્યા.
22 And he answered and said to them, Go and tell John what ye have seen and heard; that the blind receive sight, the lame walk, lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor good tidings are brought;
૨૨ઈસુએ તેઓને ઉત્તર આપતાં કહ્યું કે, ‘જે જે તમે જોયું તથા સાંભળ્યું તે જઈને યોહાનને કહી સંભળાવો; એટલે કે અંધજનો દેખતા થાય છે, પગથી અપંગ માણસો ચાલતા થાય છે, રક્તપિત્તીઓને શુદ્ધ કરાય છે, અને બધિર સાંભળતાં થાય છે, મૂએલાંને સજીવન કરવામાં આવે છે, દરિદ્રીઓને સુવાર્તા પ્રગટ કરાય છે,
23 and blessed is he, whoever shall find no occasion of stumbling in me.
૨૩અને જે કોઈ મારાથી દૂર ન થાય તે આશીર્વાદિત છે.’”
24 And when the messengers of John had departed, he began to say to the multitudes concerning John, What have ye gone out into the wilderness to see? the reeds shaken by the wind?
૨૪યોહાનના સંદેશવાહકો ગયા એટલે ઈસુએ લોકોને યોહાન વિશે કહ્યું કે, ‘અરણ્યમાં તમે શું જોવા ગયા હતા? શું પવનથી હાલતા ઘાસને?
25 But what have ye gone out to see? a man clothed in soft raiment? Lo! they who wear gorgeous apparel, and live luxuriously, are in kings' palaces.
૨૫પણ તમે શું જોવા ગયા હતા? શું મુલાયમ વસ્ત્ર પહેરેલા માણસને? જુઓ, જે ભપકાદાર વસ્ત્ર પહેરે છે તથા એશઆરામમાં રહે છે, તેઓ રાજમહેલોમાં હોય છે!
26 But what have ye gone out to see? A prophet? Yea, I say to you, and more than a prophet.
૨૬પણ તમે શું જોવા ગયા હતા? શું પ્રબોધકને? હું તમને કહું છું કે, હા, અને પ્રબોધકના કરતાં પણ જે વધારે છે, તેને.
27 This is he of whom it is written, “Lo! I send my messenger before thy face, who shall prepare thy way before thee.”
૨૭જેનાં વિશે લખ્યું છે કે, જુઓ, હું મારા સંદેશવાહકને તારા આગળ મોકલું છું, કે જે તારી આગળ તારો માર્ગ તૈયાર કરશે, તે એ જ છે.
28 I say to you, Among those born of women there is no greater prophet than John; but he that is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he.
૨૮હું તમને કહું છું કે, સ્ત્રીઓથી જેઓ જનમ્યાં છે, તેઓમાં યોહાન કરતાં મોટો કોઈ નથી, તોપણ ઈશ્વરના રાજ્યમાં જે સૌથી નાનો છે, તે પણ તેના કરતાં મોટો છે.’”
29 And all the people when they heard him, and the publicans, acknowledged God as righteous by being baptized with the baptism of John.
૨૯એ સાંભળીને બધા લોકોએ તથા દાણીઓએ યોહાનના બાપ્તિસ્માના કારણે, ‘ઈશ્વર ન્યાયી છે’ એમ કબૂલ કર્યું.
30 But the Pharisees and the lawyers rejected the purpose of God toward themselves, not being baptized by him.
૩૦પણ ફરોશીઓ તથા શાસ્ત્રીઓ તેનાથી બાપ્તિસ્મા પામ્યા નહોતા, માટે તેઓના સંબંધી ઈશ્વરની જે યોજના હતી તે તેઓએ નકાર કર્યા.
31 To what then shall I compare the men of this generation, and what are they like?
૩૧‘આ પેઢીના માણસોને હું શાની ઉપમા આપું? તેઓ કોનાં જેવા છે?
32 They are like children sitting in the market-place, and calling one to another, saying, We piped to you, and ye did not dance; we sung a dirge, and ye did not weep.
૩૨તેઓ તો છોકરાંનાં જેવા છે કે, જેઓ ચોકમાં બેસીને એકબીજાને કહે છે કે, અમે તમારી આગળ વાંસળી વગાડી, પણ તમે નાચ્યા નહિ; અમે વિલાપ કર્યો, પણ તમે રડ્યાં નહિ.
33 For John the Baptist hath come not eating bread, nor drinking wine; and ye say, He hath a demon.
૩૩કેમ કે યોહાન બાપ્તિસ્મા કરનાર રોટલી ખાતો કે દ્રાક્ષારસ પીતો આવ્યો નથી; અને તમે કહો છો કે તેને દુષ્ટાત્મા વળગ્યો છે.
34 The Son of man hath come eating and drinking; and ye say, Behold, a glutton and a wine-bibber, a friend of publicans and sinners!
૩૪માણસનો દીકરો ખાતો પીતો આવ્યો છે, ત્યારે તમે કહો છો કે, જુઓ, ખાઉધરો અને દારૂબાજ માણસ, દાણીઓનો તથા પાપીઓનો મિત્ર!
35 But wisdom is acknowledged by all her children.
૩૫પણ જ્ઞાન તેનાં બાળકોથી યથાર્થ મનાય છે.’”
36 And one of the Pharisees asked him to eat with him; and he went into the Pharisee's house, and reclined at the table.
૩૬કોઈ એક ફરોશીએ ઈસુને પોતાની સાથે જમવા સારુ વિનંતી કરી. ઈસુ ફરોશીના ઘરમાં જઈને જમવા બેઠા.
37 And lo! a woman who was in the city, a sinner, learning that he was at table in the Pharisee's house, brought an alabaster-bottle of ointment,
૩૭જુઓ, એ શહેરમાં એક પાપી સ્ત્રી હતી; તેણે જયારે જાણ્યું કે ફરોશીના ઘરમાં ઈસુ જમવા બેઠા છે, ત્યારે અત્તરની સંગેમરમરની ડબ્બી લાવીને,
38 and standing behind at his feet, weeping, began to wet his feet with tears, and wiped them with the hair of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.
૩૮તેમના પગ પાસે રડતી રડતી પાછળ ઊભી રહી, તથા પોતાનાં આંસુઓથી તેમના પગ પલાળવા તથા પોતાના માથાના વાળથી લૂછવા લાગી, તેણે તેમના પગને ચૂમ્યાં, તેમને અત્તર લગાવ્યું.
39 And the Pharisee who had invited him, when he saw this, said within himself, This man, if he were a prophet, would know who, and what sort of woman, this is that toucheth him; for she is a sinner.
૩૯હવે તે જોઈને જે ફરોશીએ ઈસુને જમવા બોલાવ્યા હતા તે મનમાં એમ કહેવા લાગ્યો કે, ‘જો આ માણસ પ્રબોધક હોત, તો આ જે સ્ત્રી તેમને અડકે છે, તે સ્ત્રી કોણ છે અને કેવી છે તે તેઓ જાણત, એટલે કે તે તો પાપી છે.’”
40 And Jesus answering said to him, Simon, I have somewhat to say to thee. And he saith, Teacher, say on.
૪૦આથી ઈસુએ તેને ઉત્તર આપતા કહ્યું કે, ‘સિમોન, મારે તને કંઈ કહેવું છે.’ ત્યારે તેણે ઈસુને કહ્યું કે, ‘કહો ને, પ્રભુ.’”
41 A certain money-lender had two debtors; one owed five hundred denaries, and the other fifty.
૪૧ઈસુએ કહ્યું ‘એક લેણદારને બે દેવાદાર માણસો હતા; એકને પાંચસો દીનારનું દેવું, અને બીજાને પચાસનું હતું.
42 When they had nothing to pay, he freely remitted the debt of both. Which of them, now, will love him the most?
૪૨જયારે તેઓની પાસે ચૂકવવાનું કંઈ નહોતું, ત્યારે તેણે બન્નેનું દેવું માફ કર્યુ. તો તેઓમાંનો કોણ તેના પર વધારે પ્રેમ રાખશે?’”
43 Simon answering said, He, I suppose, to whom he remitted the most. And he said to him, Thou hast judged rightly.
૪૩સિમોને ઉત્તર આપતાં કહ્યું કે, ‘મને લાગે છે કે જેને તેણે સૌથી વધારે દેવું માફ કર્યુ તે.’ અને તેમણે કહ્યું, ‘તેં સાચો જવાબ આપ્યો.’”
44 And turning to the woman, he said to Simon, Seest thou this woman? I entered thy house, no water didst thou give me for my feet; but she wet my feet with tears, and wiped them with her hair.
૪૪પછી ઈસુએ પેલી સ્ત્રીની તરફ જોઈને સિમોનને કહ્યું કે, ‘આ સ્ત્રીને તું જુએ છે? હું તારે ઘરે આવ્યો ત્યારે મારા પગને ધોવા સારુ તેં મને પાણી આપ્યું નહિ; પણ આ સ્ત્રીએ મારા પગ આંસુએ પલાળીને તેમને પોતાના માથાના વાળથી લૂછ્યા છે.
45 No kiss didst thou give me; but she, from the time I came in, did not cease to kiss my feet.
૪૫તેં મને ચુંબન કર્યુ નહિ; પણ હું અંદર આવ્યો ત્યારથી તે સ્ત્રી જરા પણ રોકાયા વગર મારા પગને ચુંબન કર્યા કરે છે.
46 My head with oil thou didst not anoint; but she anointed my feet with costly ointment.
૪૬તેં મારે માથે તેલ લગાવ્યું નહિ; પણ તેણે મારા પગે અત્તર લગાવ્યું છે.
47 Wherefore, I say to thee, her many sins have been forgiven; for she loved much; but he to whom little is forgiven loveth little.
૪૭એ માટે હું તને કહું છું કે, એનાં પાપ જે ઘણાં છે તે તેને માફ થયાં છે; કેમ કે તેણે ઘણો પ્રેમ રાખ્યો; જેને થોડું માફ થયું છે તે થોડો પ્રેમ રાખે છે.’”
48 And he said to her, Thy sins have been forgiven.
૪૮ઈસુએ તે સ્ત્રીને કહ્યું કે, ‘તારાં પાપ માફ કરવામાં આવ્યાં છે.’”
49 And those who were at table with him began to say within themselves, Who is this that even forgiveth sins?
૪૯ઈસુની સાથે જેઓ જમવા બેઠા હતા, તેઓ પોતાના મનમાં વિચારવા લાગ્યા કે, ‘આ કોણ છે કે જે પાપને પણ માફ કરે છે?’”
50 But he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved thee; go in peace.
૫૦ઈસુએ તે સ્ત્રીને કહ્યું કે, ‘તારા વિશ્વાસે તને બચાવી છે; શાંતિએ જા.’”
