Luke 4
1 And Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan, and was led in the Spirit in the wilderness
Jesús, lleno del Espíritu Santo, regresó del Jordán y fue guiado por el Espíritu en el desierto,
2 forty days, tempted by the Devil. And he ate nothing in those days; and when they were ended, he was hungry.
donde fue tentado por el diablo por cuarenta días. No comió nada durante todo ese tiempo, así que al final ya tenía mucha hambre.
3 And the Devil said to him, If thou art the Son of God, command this stone that it become a loaf of bread.
El diablo le dijo: “Si eres el hijo de Dios, ordena a esta piedra que se convierta en pan”.
4 And Jesus answered him, It is written, “Not on bread alone shall man live.”
“Está escrito en la Escritura: ‘No vivirás solo de pan,’” respondió Jesús.
5 And taking him up, he showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time.
El diablo lo llevó a un lugar alto, y en un abrir y cerrar de ojos le mostró todos los reinos del mundo.
6 And the Devil said to him, All this power will I give thee, and their glory; because to me it hath been delivered, and I give it to whomever I will.
Entonces el diablo le dijo a Jesús: “Te daré autoridad sobre todos esos reinos y su gloria. Esta autoridad se me ha entregado a mí, y yo puedo dársela a quien yo quiera.
7 If thou then wilt worship me, it shall all be thine.
Arrodíllate y adórame y podrás tenerlo todo”.
8 And Jesus answering said to him, It is written, “Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
“Está escrito en la Escritura: ‘Adorarás al Señor tu Dios, y solo a él servirás,’” respondió Jesús.
9 And he brought him to Jerusalem, and set him on the pinnacle of the temple, and said to him, If thou art the Son of God, cast thyself down from hence;
El diablo llevó a Jesús a Jerusalén, lo puso en la parte más alta del Templo y le dijo: “Si eres el Hijo de Dios, ¡tírate!
10 for it is written, “He will give his angels charge concerning thee, to guard thee;
Porque está escrito en la Escritura: ‘Él mandará a sus ángeles para que cuiden de ti,
11 and in their hands they will bear thee up, that thou mayst not dash thy foot against a stone.”
para que te sostengan y tu pie no tropiece’”.
12 And Jesus answering said to him, It hath been said, “Thou shalt not make trial of the Lord thy God.”
“Está escrito en la Escritura: ‘No tentarás al Señor tu Dios,’” respondió Jesús.
13 And when he had brought every temptation to an end, the Devil departed from him for a season.
Y cuando el diablo no tuvo más tentaciones para él, se quedó esperando otra oportunidad.
14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee; and there went out a report concerning him through all the surrounding country
Entonces Jesús regresó a Galilea, lleno del poder del Espíritu. Y la noticia sobre él se difundió por todas partes.
15 And he taught in their synagogues, honored by all.
Jesús enseñaba en sus sinagogas, y todo el mundo lo alababa.
16 And he came to Nazara, where he had been brought up, and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath-day; and stood up to read.
Cuando llegó a Nazaret, la ciudad donde había crecido, entró el sábado a la sinagoga como de costumbre.
17 And there was delivered to him the book of the prophet Isaiah; and unrolling the book, he found the place where it was written,
Y le entregaron el rollo del profeta Isaías. Entonces Jesús lo desenrolló y encontró el lugar donde dice:
18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he anointed me to preach glad tidings to the poor; he hath sent me to proclaim deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty the oppressed,
“El Espíritu del Señor está sobre mí, porque me ha ungido para anunciar la buena noticia al menesteroso. Me ha enviado para proclamar que los prisioneros serán puestos en libertad, los ciegos verán, los oprimidos serán liberados,
19 to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
y para proclamar el tiempo del favor del Señor”.
20 And rolling up the book, he gave it back to the attendant, and sat down; and the eyes of all in the synagogue were fixed upon him.
Volvió a enrollarlo y lo devolvió al encargado. Entonces se sentó. Y todos en la sinagoga lo miraban.
21 And he began to say to them, To-day hath this scripture been fulfilled in your ears.
“Esta Escritura que acaban de oír se ha cumplido hoy”, les dijo.
22 And they all spoke in his praise, and wondered at the words of grace which proceeded from his mouth; and they said, Is not this Joseph's son?
Y todos expresaron su aprobación hacia él, asombrados por las palabras que salieron de sus labios. “¿Acaso no es este el hijo de José?” se preguntaban ellos.
23 And he said to them, Ye will doubtless say to me this proverb, “Physician, heal thyself;” whatever things we have heard of as having been done in Capernaum, do here too in thy own country.
Jesús respondió: “Estoy seguro de que ustedes me repetirán este proverbio: ‘Médico, ¡cúrate a ti mismo!’ y preguntarán: ‘¿Por qué no haces aquí en tu propia ciudad lo que oímos que hiciste en Capernaúm?’
24 And he said, Truly do I say to you, No prophet is acceptable in his own country.
Pero yo les digo la verdad, ningún profeta es aceptado en su propia ciudad.
25 But I tell you in truth, that there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, and there was a great famine throughout all the land;
Les aseguro que hubo muchas viudas en Israel durante el tiempo de Elías, cuando hubo una sequía por tres años y medio que causó una gran hambruna por todo el país.
26 and yet to none of them was Elijah sent, but to Sarepta in Sidonia, to a woman that was a widow.
Sin embargo, Elías no fue enviado donde ninguna de ellas. Sino que fue enviado a una viuda en Sarepta, ¡en la región de Sidón!
27 And there were many lepers in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet; and not one of them was cleansed, but only Naaman the Syrian.
Y aunque había muchos leprosos en Israel durante el tiempo de Eliseo, ¡el único que fue sanado fue Naamán, el sirio!”
28 And all in the synagogue, when they heard this, were filled with wrath.
Cuando oyeron esto, todos los que estaban en la sinagoga se enfurecieron.
29 And they rose up, and forced him out of the city and took him to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, to cast him down headlong;
De un salto se pusieron de pie y lo llevaron fuera de la ciudad. Entonces lo agarraron con violencia y lo llevaron hasta la cima de la montaña sobre la cual estaba construida la ciudad, para lanzarlo del peñasco.
30 but he, passing through the midst of them, went away.
Pero él caminó en medio de ellos y siguió su camino.
31 And he came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee, and was teaching them on the sabbath.
Entonces Jesús descendió a Capernaúm, una ciudad de Galilea. Y comenzó a enseñarles un sábado.
32 And they were astonished at his teaching; for his word was with authority.
Ellos estaban sorprendidos por lo que enseñaba porque hablaba con autoridad.
33 And in the synagogue there was a man having a spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice,
En la sinagoga había un hombre que estaba poseído por un demonio. Y gritaba:
34 Ha! what have we to do with thee, Jesus of Nazareth? Thou hast come to destroy us. I know who thou art, the Holy One of God.
“¿Qué quieres con nosotros, Jesús de Nazaret? ¿Has venido a destruirnos? Yo sé quién eres: ¡El Santo de Dios!”
35 And Jesus rebuked him, saying, Be silent, and come out of him. And the demon threw him down in the midst, and came out of him, having done him no hurt.
Jesús lo interrumpió, diciendo: “¡Cállate!” Entonces le ordenó al demonio: “¡Sal de él!” Y lanzándolo al piso delante de ellos, el demonio salió del hombre sin hacerle daño.
36 And all were amazed; and they spoke with one another, saying, What kind of word is this, that with authority and power he commandeth the unclean spirits, and they come out?
Y todos estaban sorprendidos y se preguntaban unos a otros: “¿Qué enseñanza es esta? Pues con poder y autoridad da orden de salir a los espíritus malignos ¡y ellos lo hacen!”
37 And there went out a report concerning him into every place of the surrounding country.
Y la noticia acerca de Jesús se extendía por toda la región.
38 And he arose and went from the synagogue into the house of Simon. And Simon's wife's mother was seized with a great fever; and they besought him for her.
Después de marcharse de la sinagoga, Jesús fue a la casa de Simón. La suegra de Simón estaba enferma con una fiebre alta, y los que estaban allí le pidieron ayuda a Jesús.
39 And standing over her, he rebuked the fever, and it left her. And immediately she arose and waited on them.
Entonces Jesús fue y se puso en pie junto a ella. Le ordenó a la fiebre que se fuera, y así sucedió. Entonces ella se levantó de inmediato y preparó una comida para ellos.
40 And when the sun was setting, all who had any sick with divers diseases brought them to him; and he laid his hands on every one of them, and healed them.
Cuando el sol se puso, trajeron delante de él a todos los enfermos que sufrían de diversas enfermedades. Y Jesús ponía sus manos sobre ellos, uno tras otro, y los sanaba.
41 And demons also came out from many, crying out, and saying, Thou art the Son of God. And he rebuked them, and did not suffer them to speak, because they knew that he was the Christ.
Salieron demonios de muchas personas, gritando: “Tú eres el hijo de Dios”. Pero Jesús los interrumpía y no los dejaba hablar porque ellos sabían que él era el Cristo.
42 And when it was day, he went out, and betook himself to a desert place; and the multitudes went in search of him; and they came to him, and would have prevented him from leaving them.
Siendo temprano, a la mañana siguiente, Jesús salió para encontrar algún lugar tranquilo donde pudiera estar en paz. Pero las multitudes siguieron buscándolo, y finalmente lo encontraron. Trataron de detenerlo al salir porque no querían que se fuera.
43 But he said to them, I must publish the good tidings of the kingdom of God to the other cities also; because for this I was sent forth.
Pero él les dijo: “Tengo que ir a otras ciudades a contarles la buena noticia del reino de Dios también, porque para esto fui enviado”.
44 And he continued to preach in the synagogues of Galilee.
Entonces Jesús siguió viajando, enseñando la buena noticia en las sinagogas de Judea.
