Luke 3
1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
Uti femtonde årena af Tiberii Kejsaredöme, då Pontius Pilatus var landshöfding i Judeen, och Herodes var Tetrarcha i Galileen, och Philippus, hans broder, Tetrarcha i Itureen, och i den ängden Trachonitis, och Lysanias Tetrarcha i Abilene;
2 when Annas and Caiaphas were high-priests, the word of God came to John, the son of Zachariah, in the wilderness.
Under de öfversta Presterna Hannas och Caiphas, kom Guds befallning till Johannes, Zacharie son, i öknene.
3 And he came into all the country about the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
Och han kom i alla den ängden vid Jordan, och predikade bättringenes döpelse, till syndernas förlåtelse;
4 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths!
Såsom skrifvet är i den boken af Esaie Prophetens ordom, den der säger: Uti öknen är en ropandes röst: Bereder Herrans väg; görer hans stigar rätta.
5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked places shall be made straight, and the rough ways smooth;
Alla dalar skola uppfyllas, och all berg och backar skola förnedras; och det krokot är, skall rätt varda, och det ojemnt är, skall vändas i släta vägar;
6 and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
Och allt kött skall se Guds salighet.
7 He said therefore to the multitudes that came forth to be baptized by him, Brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
Så sade han då till folket, som utgick till att döpas af honom: I huggormars afföda, ho hafver eder föregifvit, att I undkomma skolen den tillkommande vrede?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance; and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able out of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.
Görer fördenskull tillbörlig bättrings frukt; och tager eder icke före att säga vid eder sjelf: Vi hafve Abraham till fader; ty jag säger eder: Gud är mägtig uppväcka Abrahe söner af dessa stenar.
9 And already also is the axe lying at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that beareth not good fruit is to be cut down, and cast into the fire.
Och nu är allaredo yxen satt till rotena på trän; hvart och ett trä, som icke bär goda frukt, varder afhugget, och kastadt i elden.
10 And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then must we do?
Och folket frågade honom, sägande: Hvad skole vi då göra?
11 He answered and said to them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath food, let him do likewise.
Svarade han, och sade till dem: Den der två kjortlar hafver, han gifve den som ingen hafver; och den der mat hafver, göre sammalunda.
12 And there came also publicans to be baptized, and said to him, Teacher, what must we do?
Så kommo ock de Publicaner, till att döpas, och sade till honom: Mästar, hvad skole då vi göra?
13 And he said to them, Exact no more than hath been ordered you.
Sade han till dem: Kräfver icke mer ut, än eder förelagdt är.
14 And soldiers also asked him, saying, And what must we do? And he said to them, Do violence to no one, accuse no one falsely, and be content with your wages.
Frågade ock krigsmän honom, sägande: Hvad skole då vi göra? Sade han till dem: Görer ingom öfvervåld och orätt, och låter eder nöja åt edor lön.
15 And while the people were in expectation, and all were considering in their hearts concerning John, whether he were the Christ,
Så begynte då folket hafva en gissan, och alle tänkte i sin hjerta om Johanne, om han icke var Christus.
16 John answered and said to them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but he who is mightier than I is coming, the latchet of whose sandals I am not worthy to loose; he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire.
Då svarade Johannes, och sade till alla: Jag döper eder i vatten; men en varder kommandes, som starkare är än jag, hvilkens skoremmar jag icke värd är att upplösa; han skall döpa eder med den Helga Anda, och med eld;
17 His winnowing-shovel is in his hand to thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor, and gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
Hvilkens kastoskofvel är uti hans hand, och han skall rensa sin loga, och församla hvetet uti sina lado; men agnarna skall han uppbränna uti evig eld.
18 And giving many other exhortations he published the glad tidings to the people.
Och mång annor stycke förmanade han, och predikade för folket.
19 But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him on account of Herodias the wife of his brother, and on account of all the evil deeds which Herod had done,
Då Herodes Tetrarcha vardt straffad af honom, för Herodias, sins broders Philippi hustrus, skull, och för allt det onda, som Herodes gjorde;
20 added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.
Öfver allt detta lade han Johannem i häktelse.
21 And it came to pass, when all the people had been baptized, and Jesus also had been baptized, and was praying, that the heaven was opened,
Och det begaf sig, då allt folket lät sig döpa, och Jesus vardt ock döpt, och bad, öppnades himmelen.
22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in a bodily shape as a dove; and a voice came from heaven: “Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased.”
Och den Helge Ande kom ned i lekamlig hamn, såsom en dufva, på honom; och en röst kom af himmelen, som sade: Du äst min älskelige Son; uti dig behagar mig.
23 And Jesus himself was, when he began, about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, who was the son of Heli,
Och Jesus begynte vara vid tretio år; och han vardt hållen för Josephs son, hvilken var Eli son;
24 who was the son of Matthath, who was the son of Levi, who was the son of Melchi, who was the son of Jannai, who was the son of Joseph,
Hvilken var Matthats son; hvilken var Levi son; hvilken var Melchi son; hvilken var Janna son; hvilken var Josephs son;
25 who was the son of Mattathias, who was the son of Amos, who was the son of Nahum, who was the son of Esli, who was the son of Naggai,
