Luke 3
1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
Y en el año quince del imperio de Tiberio César, siendo presidente de Judea Poncio Pilato, y Heródes tetrarca de Galilea, y su hermano Felipe tetrarca de Iturea y de la provincia de Traconite, y Lisania tetrarca de Abilina;
2 when Annas and Caiaphas were high-priests, the word of God came to John, the son of Zachariah, in the wilderness.
Siendo sumos sacerdotes Annás y Caifás, fue la palabra del Señor a Juan, hijo de Zacarías, en el desierto.
3 And he came into all the country about the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
Y él vino en toda la tierra al derredor del Jordán, predicando el bautismo de arrepentimiento para remisión de pecados;
4 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths!
Como está escrito en el libro de las palabras del profeta Isaías, que dice: Voz del que clama en el desierto: Aparejád el camino del Señor, hacéd derechas sus sendas.
5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked places shall be made straight, and the rough ways smooth;
Todo valle se henchirá, y todo monte y collado se abajará; y lo torcido será enderezado, y los caminos ásperos allanados;
6 and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
Y verá toda carne la salvación de Dios.
7 He said therefore to the multitudes that came forth to be baptized by him, Brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
Y decía a las multitudes que salían para ser bautizadas por él: Generación de víboras, ¿quién os enseñó a huir de la ira que vendrá?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance; and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able out of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.
Hacéd, pues, frutos dignos de arrepentimiento, y no comencéis a decir en vosotros mismos: Por padre tenemos a Abraham; porque os digo, que puede Dios, aun de estas piedras, levantar hijos a Abraham.
9 And already also is the axe lying at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that beareth not good fruit is to be cut down, and cast into the fire.
Y ya también la hacha está puesta a la raíz de los árboles: todo árbol pues que no hace buen fruto, es talado, y echado en el fuego.
10 And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then must we do?
Y las multitudes le preguntaban, diciendo: ¿Pues, qué haremos?
11 He answered and said to them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath food, let him do likewise.
Y respondiendo, les dijo: El que tiene dos ropas, dé al que no tiene; y el que tiene alimentos, haga lo mismo.
12 And there came also publicans to be baptized, and said to him, Teacher, what must we do?
Y vinieron también publicanos para ser bautizados, y le dijeron: ¿Maestro, qué haremos nosotros?
13 And he said to them, Exact no more than hath been ordered you.
Y él les dijo: No demandéis más de lo que os está ordenado.
14 And soldiers also asked him, saying, And what must we do? And he said to them, Do violence to no one, accuse no one falsely, and be content with your wages.
Y le preguntaron también los soldados, diciendo: Y nosotros, ¿qué haremos? Y les dice: No maltratéis a nadie, ni oprimáis; y sed contentos con vuestros salarios.
15 And while the people were in expectation, and all were considering in their hearts concerning John, whether he were the Christ,
Y estando el pueblo esperando, y pensando todos de Juan en sus corazones, si él fuese el Cristo,
16 John answered and said to them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but he who is mightier than I is coming, the latchet of whose sandals I am not worthy to loose; he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire.
Respondió Juan, diciendo a todos: Yo, a la verdad, os bautizo con agua; mas viene uno que es más poderoso que yo, de quien no soy digno de desatar la correa de sus zapatos: él os bautizará con el Espíritu Santo y con fuego.
17 His winnowing-shovel is in his hand to thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor, and gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
Cuyo aventador está en su mano; y limpiará su era, y juntará el trigo en su alfolí: mas quemará la paja en fuego que nunca se apagará.
18 And giving many other exhortations he published the glad tidings to the people.
Así que amonestando otras muchas cosas también, anunciaba el evangelio al pueblo.
19 But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him on account of Herodias the wife of his brother, and on account of all the evil deeds which Herod had done,
Entonces Heródes el tetrarca, siendo reprendido por él a causa de Herodías, mujer de Felipe su hermano, y de todas las maldades que había hecho Heródes,
20 added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.
Añadió también esto sobre todo, que encerró a Juan en la cárcel.
21 And it came to pass, when all the people had been baptized, and Jesus also had been baptized, and was praying, that the heaven was opened,
Y aconteció, que como todo el pueblo fue bautizado, y Jesús también fuese bautizado, y orase, el cielo se abrió,
22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in a bodily shape as a dove; and a voice came from heaven: “Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased.”
Y descendió el Espíritu Santo en forma corporal, como paloma, sobre él, y vino una voz del cielo que decía: Tú eres mi Hijo amado, en ti es mi placer.
23 And Jesus himself was, when he began, about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, who was the son of Heli,
Y el mismo Jesús comenzaba a ser como de treinta años, siendo (como se creía, ) hijo de José, que fue hijo de Helí,
24 who was the son of Matthath, who was the son of Levi, who was the son of Melchi, who was the son of Jannai, who was the son of Joseph,
Que fue de Mattat, que fue de Leví, que fue de Melqui, que fue de Janne, que fue de José,
25 who was the son of Mattathias, who was the son of Amos, who was the son of Nahum, who was the son of Esli, who was the son of Naggai,

26 who was the son of Maath, who was the son of Mattathias, who was the son of Shimei, who was the son of Josech, who was the son of Joda,
