Luke 3
1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
Allah memimpin Yohanes anak Zakaria untuk memulai pelayanannya pada tahun kelima belas pemerintahan Tiberius, raja tertinggi kerajaan Romawi. Pada masa itu juga Pontius Pilatus sedang menjabat sebagai gubernur provinsi Yudea. Herodes memerintah sebagai raja di provinsi Galilea. Filipus saudara Herodes menjadi raja di provinsi Iturea dan Trakonitis. Lisanias memerintah sebagai raja di provinsi Abilene. Hanas dan Kayafas menjabat sebagai imam besar di Yerusalem. Pada waktu itulah Allah mulai menyampaikan pesan-Nya melalui Yohanes, yang tinggal di padang belantara.
2 when Annas and Caiaphas were high-priests, the word of God came to John, the son of Zachariah, in the wilderness.
3 And he came into all the country about the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
Yohanes pun pergi berkeliling ke seluruh daerah di sekitar sungai Yordan dan memberitakan, “Kamu masing-masing harus bertobat dari dosa-dosamu supaya Allah mengampunimu. Dan untuk menunjukkan bahwa kamu mau terus mengikut TUHAN, datanglah kepada saya supaya saya membaptis kamu.”
4 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths!
Jadi Yohanes inilah orang yang dimaksud dalam nubuatan Nabi Yesaya, “Kelak akan ada orang yang berseru-seru di padang belantara, ‘Siapkanlah jalan untuk kedatangan Tuhan! Luruskanlah jalan bagi-Nya!
5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked places shall be made straight, and the rough ways smooth;
Timbunlah setiap lembah, datarkan setiap bukit, ratakan tanah yang bergelombang, dan luruskan jalan yang berliku-liku.
6 and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
Dengan demikian setiap orang akan mendapat kesempatan untuk mengerti bagaimana caranya agar diselamatkan oleh Allah.’”
7 He said therefore to the multitudes that came forth to be baptized by him, Brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
Lalu banyak orang datang kepada Yohanes untuk dibaptis. Namun karena sebagian dari mereka tidak sungguh-sungguh bertobat, dia menegur mereka, “Hai kalian, keturunan ular berbisa! Janganlah kamu pikir bahwa hanya dengan dibaptis kamu bisa melarikan diri dari hukuman Allah yang akan segera datang!
8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance; and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able out of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.
Kalau kamu sungguh-sungguh sudah bertobat, tunjukkanlah hal itu melalui cara hidupmu. Dan janganlah berkata dalam hatimu, ‘Aku tidak akan kena hukuman Allah karena aku keturunan Abraham.’ Saya katakan kepadamu: Sesungguhnya Allah sanggup menjadikan keturunan bagi Abraham dari batu-batu ini!
9 And already also is the axe lying at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that beareth not good fruit is to be cut down, and cast into the fire.
Seperti petani yang menebang dan membakar pohon yang tidak pernah berbuah, demikianlah Allah sekarang sudah siap membinasakan setiap orang dari bangsa Israel yang tidak hidup sesuai kehendak-Nya!”
10 And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then must we do?
Kemudian orang banyak itu bertanya kepadanya, “Kalau begitu, apa yang harus kami perbuat supaya Allah tidak menghukum kami?”
11 He answered and said to them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath food, let him do likewise.
Jawab Yohanes, “Kalau kamu mempunyai dua baju, berikanlah satu kepada orang yang tidak punya. Kalau kamu mempunyai makanan, bagikanlah kepada orang yang lapar.”
12 And there came also publicans to be baptized, and said to him, Teacher, what must we do?
Beberapa penagih pajak juga datang untuk dibaptis. Mereka bertanya kepada Yohanes, “Guru, apa yang harus kami lakukan?”
13 And he said to them, Exact no more than hath been ordered you.
Jawabnya kepada mereka, “Jangan lagi menagih pajak lebih dari yang sudah ditentukan oleh pemerintah Roma.”
14 And soldiers also asked him, saying, And what must we do? And he said to them, Do violence to no one, accuse no one falsely, and be content with your wages.
Ada juga tentara-tentara yang bertanya, “Bagaimana dengan kami? Apa yang harus kami lakukan?” Jawab Yohanes, “Jangan memakai kekerasan, ancaman, atau tuduhan-tuduhan palsu kepada seseorang untuk mendapat uang darinya. Puaslah dengan jumlah gajimu.”
15 And while the people were in expectation, and all were considering in their hearts concerning John, whether he were the Christ,
Karena pelayanan Yohanes, orang-orang menunggu dengan penuh harap dan bertanya-tanya dalam hati, “Apakah Yohanes adalah Kristus yang kita nanti-nantikan itu?”
16 John answered and said to them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but he who is mightier than I is coming, the latchet of whose sandals I am not worthy to loose; he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire.
Namun Yohanes memberitahu mereka semua, “Saya hanya membaptis orang dengan air. Tetapi sesudah saya akan datang Seorang lain yang lebih berkuasa daripada saya. Sebenarnya saya tidak layak untuk melayani Dia, sekalipun hanya membukakan tali sandal-Nya. Dialah yang akan membaptis kalian masing-masing. Ada yang dibaptis dengan Roh Kudus, ada pula yang dibaptis dengan api.
17 His winnowing-shovel is in his hand to thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor, and gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
Oleh sebab itu bertobatlah! Karena dunia ini seperti ladang luas yang siap dipanen. Hasil yang baik dan yang tidak baik akan dipisahkan! Dia yang datang sesudah saya akan menghakimi dunia ini dan memisahkan setiap orang yang jahat dari antara orang benar. Orang-orang benar itu akan hidup bersama-Nya. Tetapi semua orang jahat akan dilemparkan ke dalam api neraka yang tidak pernah padam.” (questioned)
18 And giving many other exhortations he published the glad tidings to the people.
Dengan banyak nasihat seperti itu Yohanes menyampaikan Kabar Baik kepada orang banyak.
19 But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him on account of Herodias the wife of his brother, and on account of all the evil deeds which Herod had done,
Yohanes menegur Raja Herodes karena sudah merebut Herodiana, istri saudaranya, dan karena kejahatan-kejahatan lain yang pernah dia lakukan.
20 added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.
Tetapi Herodes menambah kejahatannya dengan memasukkan Yohanes ke dalam penjara.
21 And it came to pass, when all the people had been baptized, and Jesus also had been baptized, and was praying, that the heaven was opened,
Ketika Yohanes belum dipenjara, suatu hari dia sedang membaptis banyak orang. Yesus juga hadir di situ untuk dibaptis. Sesudah dibaptis, Yesus berdoa dan langit pun terbuka
22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in a bodily shape as a dove; and a voice came from heaven: “Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased.”
lalu Roh Kudus turun ke atas Dia dalam bentuk burung merpati. Kemudian terdengarlah suara dari langit yang berkata, “Engkaulah Anak-Ku yang sangat Aku kasihi. Engkau menyenangkan hati-Ku.”
23 And Jesus himself was, when he began, about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, who was the son of Heli,
Yesus berumur tiga puluh tahun ketika Dia memulai pelayanan-Nya. Menurut anggapan orang, Dia adalah anak Yusuf. Jadi berdasarkan garis keturunan Yusuf, inilah nenek moyang Yesus: Allah menciptakan Adam, manusia pertama, sehingga bisa dikatakan bahwa Adam adalah anak Allah. Selanjutnya keturunan Adam adalah Set, kemudian Enos, Kenan, Mahalaleel, Yared, Henok, Metusalah, Lamek, Nuh, Sem, Arpaksad, Kenan, Salmon, Eber, Peleg, Rehu, Serug, Nahor, Terah, Abraham, Isak, Yakub, Yehuda, Peres, Hesron, Aram, Aminadab, Nahason, Salmon, Boas, Obed, Isai, Daud, Natan, Matata, Mina, Melea, Elyakim, Yonam, Yusuf, Yehuda, Simeon, Lewi, Matat, Yorim, Eliezer, Yesua, Er, Elmadam, Kosam, Adi, Malki, Neri, Sealtiel, Zerubabel, Resa, Yohanan, Yoda, Yosek, Simei, Matatias, Maat, Nagai, Hesli, Nahum, Amos, Matatias, Yusuf, Yanai, Malki, Lewi, Matat, Eli, lalu Yusuf.
24 who was the son of Matthath, who was the son of Levi, who was the son of Melchi, who was the son of Jannai, who was the son of Joseph,
25 who was the son of Mattathias, who was the son of Amos, who was the son of Nahum, who was the son of Esli, who was the son of Naggai,
26 who was the son of Maath, who was the son of Mattathias, who was the son of Shimei, who was the son of Josech, who was the son of Joda,
27 who was the son of Joanan, who was the son of Rhesa, who was the son of Zerubbabel, who was the son of Shealtiel, who was the son of Neri,
28 who was the son of Melchi, who was the son of Addi, who was the son of Kosam, who was the son of Elmadam, who was the son of Er,
29 who was the son of Jesus, who was the son of Eliezer, who was the son of Jorim, who was the son of Matthath, who was the son of Levi,
30 who was the son of Simeon, who was the son of Judah, who was the son of Joseph, who was the son of Jonam, who was the son of Eliakim,
31 who was the son of Melea, who was the son of Menna, who was the son of Mattatha, who was the son of Nathan, who was the son of David,
32 who was the son of Jesse, who was the son of Obed, who was the son of Boaz, who was the son of Salma, who was the son of Nahshon,
33 who was the son of Amminadab, who was the son of Admin, who was the son of Arni, who was the son of Hezron, who was the son of Pharez, who was the son of Judah,
34 who was the son of Jacob, who was the son of Isaac, who was the son of Abraham, who was the son of Terah, who was the son of Nahor,
35 who was the son of Serug, who was the son of Reu, who was the son of Peleg, who was the son of Eber, who was the son of Shelah,
36 who was the son of Cainan, who was the son of Arphaxad, who was the son of Shem, who was the son of Noah, who was the son of Lamech,
37 who was the son of Methuselah, who was the son of Enoch, who was the son of Jared, who was the son of Mahalaleel, who was the son of Cainan,
38 who was the son of Enos, who was the son of Seth, who was the son of Adam, who was the son of God.
