Luke 3
1 Now in the fifteenth year of the reign of Tiberius Caesar, Pontius Pilate being governor of Judaea, and Herod tetrarch of Galilee, and his brother Philip tetrarch of Ituraea and of the region of Trachonitis, and Lysanias tetrarch of Abilene,
L’an quinzième du règne de César Tibère, Ponce Pilate étant gouverneur de la Judée, Hérode, tétrarque de Galilée, Philippe, son frère, tétrarque d’Iturée et du pays de Trachonite, et Lysanias tétrarque d’Abylène;
2 when Annas and Caiaphas were high-priests, the word of God came to John, the son of Zachariah, in the wilderness.
Sous les grands prêtres Anne et Caïphe, la parole du Seigneur se fit entendre à Jean, fils de Zacharie, dans le désert.
3 And he came into all the country about the Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins;
Et il vint dans toute la région du Jourdain, prêchant le baptême de pénitence pour la rémission des péchés.
4 as it is written in the book of the words of Isaiah the prophet: “The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths!
Ainsi qu’il est écrit au livre des paroles du prophète Isaïe: Voix de quelqu’un qui crie dans le désert: Préparez la voie du Seigneur, faites droits ses sentiers:
5 Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be made low; and the crooked places shall be made straight, and the rough ways smooth;
Toute vallée sera comblée, et toute montagne et toute colline seront abaissées, les chemins tortueux deviendront droits, et les raboteux, unis;
6 and all flesh shall see the salvation of God.”
Et toute chair verra le salut de Dieu.
7 He said therefore to the multitudes that came forth to be baptized by him, Brood of vipers, who warned you to flee from the coming wrath?
Ainsi il disait à ceux qui accouraient en foule pour être baptisés par lui: Race de vipères, qui vous a montré à fuir la colère à venir?
8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance; and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham for our father; for I say to you, that God is able out of these stones to raise up children to Abraham.
Faites donc de dignes fruits de pénitence, et ne commencez pas par dire: Nous avons pour père Abraham. Car je vous dis que de ces pierres mêmes Dieu peut susciter des enfants à Abraham.
9 And already also is the axe lying at the root of the trees; every tree therefore that beareth not good fruit is to be cut down, and cast into the fire.
Déjà la cognée a été mise à la racine des arbres. Tout arbre donc qui ne produit pas de bon fruit sera coupé et jeté au feu.
10 And the multitudes asked him, saying, What then must we do?
Et la foule l’interrogeait, disant: Que ferons-nous donc?
11 He answered and said to them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath food, let him do likewise.
Et répondant, il leur disait: Que celui qui a deux tuniques en donne une à celui qui n’en a point, et que celui qui a de quoi manger fasse de même.
12 And there came also publicans to be baptized, and said to him, Teacher, what must we do?
Des publicains vinrent aussi pour être baptisés, et lui demandèrent: Maître, que ferons-nous?
13 And he said to them, Exact no more than hath been ordered you.
Et il leur répondit: Ne faites rien de plus que ce qui vous a été prescrit.
14 And soldiers also asked him, saying, And what must we do? And he said to them, Do violence to no one, accuse no one falsely, and be content with your wages.
Et des soldats aussi l’interrogeaient, disant: Et nous, que ferons-nous? Et il leur dit: N’usez de violence ni de fraude envers personne, et contentez-vous de votre paye.
15 And while the people were in expectation, and all were considering in their hearts concerning John, whether he were the Christ,
Or le peuple croyait et tous pensaient en leurs cœurs que Jean pourrait bien être le Christ.
16 John answered and said to them all, I indeed baptize you with water; but he who is mightier than I is coming, the latchet of whose sandals I am not worthy to loose; he will baptize you in the Holy Spirit and in fire.
Jean répondit, disant à tous: Pour moi, je vous baptise dans l’eau; mais viendra un plus puissant que moi, de la chaussure de qui je ne suis pas digne de délier la courroie: lui vous baptisera dans l’Esprit-Saint et le feu;
17 His winnowing-shovel is in his hand to thoroughly cleanse his threshing-floor, and gather the wheat into his garner; but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.
Son van est en sa main, et il nettoiera son aire, puis il rassemblera le froment dans son grenier, et brûlera la paille dans un feu qui ne peut s’éteindre.
18 And giving many other exhortations he published the glad tidings to the people.
C’est ainsi qu’en lui apprenant beaucoup d’autres choses, il évangélisait le peuple.
19 But Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him on account of Herodias the wife of his brother, and on account of all the evil deeds which Herod had done,
Mais comme il reprenait Hérode le tétrarque, au sujet d’Hérodiade, femme de son frère, et à cause de tous les maux qu’il avait faits,
20 added this also to them all, that he shut up John in prison.
Hérode ajouta encore celui-ci à tous les autres, il fit mettre Jean en prison.
21 And it came to pass, when all the people had been baptized, and Jesus also had been baptized, and was praying, that the heaven was opened,
Or il arriva que, comme tout le peuple recevait le baptême, et que Jésus ayant été baptisé, priait, le ciel s’ouvrit;
22 and the Holy Spirit descended upon him in a bodily shape as a dove; and a voice came from heaven: “Thou art my beloved Son; with thee I am well pleased.”
Et l’Esprit-Saint descendit sur lui sous la forme sensible d’une colombe; et une voix vint du ciel: Vous êtes mon fils bien-aimé; c’est en vous que j’ai mis mes complaisances.
23 And Jesus himself was, when he began, about thirty years of age, being, as was supposed, the son of Joseph, who was the son of Heli,
Or Jésus avait, quand il commença son ministère, environ trente ans, étant, comme l’on croyait, fils de Joseph, qui le fut d’Héli, qui le fut de Mathat.
24 who was the son of Matthath, who was the son of Levi, who was the son of Melchi, who was the son of Jannai, who was the son of Joseph,

25 who was the son of Mattathias, who was the son of Amos, who was the son of Nahum, who was the son of Esli, who was the son of Naggai,

38 who was the son of Enos, who was the son of Seth, who was the son of Adam, who was the son of God.
