Luke 20
1 And it came to pass, on one of those days, as he was teaching the people in the temple, and publishing the good tidings, that the priests and the scribes with the elders came upon him,
Un de ces jours-là, comme Jésus enseignait le peuple dans le temple et qu'il annonçait l'Évangile, les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes survinrent avec les anciens,
2 and spoke to him, saying, Tell us, by what authority doest thou these things? Or who is he that gave thee this authority?
et lui parlèrent ainsi: Dis-nous par quelle autorité tu fais ces choses, ou qui est celui qui t'a donné cette autorité?
3 And he answering said to them, I also will ask you a question; and tell me:
Il leur répondit: Je vous poserai, moi aussi, une question.
4 The baptism of John, was it from heaven, or from men?
Dites-moi: Le baptême de Jean venait-il du ciel ou des hommes?
5 And they reasoned among themselves, saying, If we say, From heaven, he will say, Why did ye not believe him?
Or, ils raisonnaient ainsi entre eux: Si nous disons: Du ciel, — il nous dira: Pourquoi donc n'avez-vous pas cru à sa parole?
6 But if we say, From men, all the people will stone us; for they are persuaded that John was a prophet.
Et si nous disons: Des hommes, — tout le peuple nous lapidera; car il est persuadé que Jean était un prophète.
7 And they answered, that they did not know whence it was.
Ils répondirent donc qu'ils ne savaient d'où il venait.
8 And Jesus said to them, Neither do I tell you by what authority I do these things.
Alors Jésus leur dit: Et moi non plus, je ne vous dirai point par quelle autorité je fais ces choses.
9 And he began to speak to the people this parable: A man planted a vineyard, and let it out to husbandmen, and went abroad for a long time.
Jésus se mit à dire au peuple cette parabole; Un homme planta une vigne; il la loua à des vignerons, puis il quitta le pays pour un temps assez long.
10 And at the season he sent a servant to the husbandmen, that they should give him of the fruit of the vineyard; but the husbandmen beat him, and sent him away empty-handed.
La saison étant venue, il envoya auprès des vignerons un serviteur, chargé de recevoir du fruit de la vigne; mais les vignerons, l'ayant battu, le renvoyèrent les mains vides.
11 And he sent still another servant; and they beat him also, and treated him shamefully, and sent him away empty-handed.
Il envoya encore un autre serviteur; mais, après l'avoir battu aussi et outragé, ils le renvoyèrent les mains vides.
12 And he went on to send a third; and they wounded him also, and cast him out.
Il en envoya encore un troisième; mais ils le blessèrent aussi et le chassèrent.
13 And the lord of the vineyard said, What shall I do? I will send my beloved son; perhaps they will respect him.
Alors le maître de la vigne dit: Que ferai-je? J'enverrai mon fils bien-aimé; peut-être le respecteront-ils!
14 But when the husbandmen saw him, they reasoned among themselves, saying, This is the heir; let us kill him, that the inheritance may become ours.
Mais quand les vignerons le virent, ils raisonnèrent ainsi entre eux: C'est l'héritier; tuons-le, afin que l'héritage soit à nous.
15 So they cast him out of the vineyard, and killed him. What then will the lord of the vineyard do to them?
Et l'ayant jeté hors de la ville, ils le tuèrent. Que leur fera donc le maître de la vigne?
16 He will come and destroy these husbandmen, and will give the vineyard to others. And when they heard this, they said, God forbid!
Il viendra et fera périr ces vignerons, et il donnera la vigne à d'autres. A l'ouïe de ces paroles, ils dirent: A Dieu ne plaise!
17 But he, looking upon them, said, What then is this which is written, “The stone which the builders rejected, the same hath become the corner-stone”?
Alors, les regardant, Jésus leur dit: Que signifie donc ce qui est écrit: «La pierre rejetée par ceux qui bâtissaient est devenue la pierre de l'angle»?
18 Every one who falleth upon that stone will be broken; but on whomever it falleth, it will grind him to powder.
Quiconque tombera sur cette pierre sera brisé, et celui sur qui elle tombera, sera écrasé par elle.
19 And the scribes and the chief priests sought to lay hands on him in that hour, but they feared the people; for they knew that he spoke this parable against them.
A l'heure même, les principaux sacrificateurs et les scribes cherchèrent à mettre la main sur lui; car ils comprenaient qu'il avait dit cette parabole contre eux. Mais ils craignirent le peuple.
20 And they kept watch on him, and sent forth spies feigning themselves to be righteous men, that they might take hold of his words, in order to deliver him up to the civil power and to the authority of the governor.
Alors ils se mirent à l'observer de près, et ils lui envoyèrent des espions qui feignaient d'être des gens de bien, pour le surprendre dans ses paroles, afin de le livrer aux autorités et au pouvoir du gouverneur.
21 And they asked him, saying, Teacher, we know that thou sayest and teachest rightly, and hast no regard to the person of men, but teachest the way of God truly.
Ces gens lui posèrent cette question: Maître, nous savons que tu parles et enseignes avec droiture, et que, sans faire acception de personne, tu enseignes la voie de Dieu en toute vérité.
22 Is it lawful for us to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
Nous est-il permis de payer l'impôt à César ou non?
23 But perceiving their craftiness, he said to them,
Mais Jésus, discernant leur ruse, leur répondit:
24 Show me a denary. Whose image and inscription hath it? And they answered and said, Caesar's.
Montrez-moi un denier. De qui porte-t-il l'effigie et l'inscription? Ils répondirent: De César.
25 And he said to them, Render then to Caesar the things that are Caesar's, and to God the things that are God's.
Alors il leur dit: Rendez donc à César ce qui est à César, et à Dieu ce qui est à Dieu.
26 And they could not take hold of his words before the people; and marveling at his answer, they held their peace.
Ils ne purent le prendre en faute pour la parole qu'il avait dite devant le peuple; et, étonnés de sa réponse, ils gardèrent le silence.
27 Then some of the Sadducees, who deny that there is a resurrection, came to him, and asked him,
Alors quelques-uns des sadducéens, qui prétendent qu'il n'y a point de résurrection, s'approchèrent et lui firent cette question:
28 saying, Teacher, Moses wrote to us, “If a man's brother die, having a wife, and the same die without children, his brother shall take his wife, and raise up seed to his brother.”
Maître, Moïse nous a donné cette loi: «Si un homme a un frère marié venant à mourir sans enfants, il épousera la veuve et suscitera une postérité à son frère»
29 Now there were seven brothers; and the first took a wife and died childless.
Or, il y avait sept frères. Le premier ayant épousé une femme, mourut sans enfants.
30 And the second
Le second l'épousa aussi, puis le troisième,
31 and the third took her; and in like manner also the seven left no children, and died.
et de même tous les sept; mais ils moururent sans laisser d'enfants.
32 At last the woman also died.
Enfin la femme mourut aussi.
33 In the resurrection then, of which of them is the woman the wife? for the seven had her for a wife.
Duquel d'entre eux sera-t-elle donc la femme, lors de la résurrection, puisque les sept l'ont eue pour femme?
Jésus leur dit: Les enfants de ce siècle se marient et sont donnés en mariage. (aiōn g165)
35 but they who have been accounted worthy to obtain that world, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry, nor are given in marriage; (aiōn g165)
Mais ceux qui ont été jugés dignes d'avoir part au siècle à venir et à la résurrection des morts, ne se marient pas et ne sont pas donnés en mariage. (aiōn g165)
36 for they cannot die any more; for they are like the angels, and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection.
Car ils ne peuvent plus mourir, parce qu'ils sont semblables aux anges, et qu'ils sont fils de Dieu, étant fils de la résurrection.
37 But that the dead are raised, even Moses hath shown at the Bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.
Que les morts ressuscitent. Moïse l'a fait connaître dans le récit du buisson, quand il nomme le Seigneur le Dieu d'Abraham, le Dieu d'Isaac et le Dieu de Jacob.
38 Now he is not a God of the dead, but of the living; for all live to him.
Or, Dieu n'est pas le Dieu des morts, mais des vivants; car ils sont tous vivants en lui.
39 Then some of the scribes answering, said, Teacher, thou hast well said.
Quelques-uns des scribes, prenant la parole, lui dirent: Maître, tu as bien parlé!
40 For they dared no longer to ask him any question.
Et ils n'osaient plus lui poser aucune question.
41 And he said to them, How is it that men say that the Christ is David's son?
Jésus leur demanda: Comment peut-on dire que le Christ est le fils de David,
42 For David himself saith in the book of Psalms, “The Lord said to my lord, Sit thou on my right hand,
puisque David lui-même dit dans le livre des Psaumes: «Le Seigneur a dit à mon Seigneur: Assieds-toi à ma droite,
43 till I make thine enemies thy footstool.”
jusqu'à ce que j'aie fait de tes ennemis ton marche-pied»?
44 David then calleth him lord; and how is he his son?
Ainsi, David l'appelle Seigneur; comment donc est-il son fils?
45 And in the hearing of all the people he said to his disciples,
Comme tout le peuple l'écoutait, il dit à ses disciples:
46 Beware of the scribes, who like to walk about in long robes, and love salutations in the markets, and the chief seats in the synagogues, and the first places at feasts;
Gardez-vous des scribes, qui se plaisent à se promener en robes longues, et qui aiment les salutations dans les places publiques, les premiers sièges dans les synagogues et les premières places dans les festins,
47 who devour widows' houses, and for a pretence make long prayers. These will receive a far greater condemnation.
qui dévorent les maisons des veuves, en affectant de faire de longues prières: le châtiment qu'ils subiront n'en sera que plus sévère.
