< Luke 2 >
1 And it came to pass in those days that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be registered.
ⲁ̅ⲁⲥϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲇⲉ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲁⲩⲇⲟⲅⲙⲁ ⲉⲓ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲙ ⲡⲣⲣⲟ ⲁⲅⲟⲩⲥⲧⲟⲥ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲧⲟⲓⲕⲟⲩⲙⲉⲛⲏ ⲧⲏⲣⲥ ⲥϩⲁⲓⲥ ⲛⲥⲁⲛⲉⲥⲧⲙⲉ
2 (This registering was the first made while Quirinius was governor of Syria.)
ⲃ̅ⲧⲁⲓ ⲧⲉ ⲧϣⲟⲣⲡ ⲛⲁⲡⲟⲅⲣⲁⲫⲏ ⲉⲛⲧⲁⲥϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉⲣⲉⲕⲩⲣⲓⲛⲟⲥ ⲟⲛϩⲏⲅⲉⲙⲱⲛ ⲉⲧⲥⲩⲣⲓⲁ
3 And all went to be registered, each to his own city.
ⲅ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉⲩⲃⲏⲕ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲟⲩⲁ ⲡⲟⲩⲁ ⲉⲥϩⲁⲓϥ ⲛⲥⲁ ⲧⲉϥⲡⲟⲗⲓⲥ
4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee out of the city of Nazareth into Judaea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David,
ⲇ̅ⲁϥⲃⲱⲕ ϩⲱⲱϥ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲱⲥⲏⲫ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲅⲁⲗⲓⲗⲁⲓⲁ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲛⲁⲍⲁⲣⲉⲑ ⲧⲡⲟⲗⲓⲥ ⲛϯⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓⲁ ⲉⲧⲡⲟⲗⲉⲓⲥ ⲛⲇⲁⲩⲉⲓⲇ ⲧⲉϣⲁⲩⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲃⲏⲑⲗⲉⲉⲙ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲏⲓ ⲛⲙ ⲧⲡⲁⲧⲣⲓⲁ ⲛⲇⲁⲩⲉⲓⲇ
5 to be registered with Mary who had been betrothed to him, who was with child.
ⲉ̅ⲉⲧⲣⲉϥⲧⲁⲁϥ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲣⲓⲁ ⲧⲉⲧⲉ ⲣⲉⲧⲟⲟⲧⲥ ϣⲏⲡ ⲛⲁϥ ⲉⲥⲉⲉⲧ
6 And it came to pass, while they were there, that the days for her delivery were completed.
ⲋ̅ⲁⲥϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲇⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲧⲣⲉⲩϣⲱⲡⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲙⲁ ⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲁⲩϫⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϭⲓ ⲛⲉⲥϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲥⲙⲓⲥⲉ
7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swathing-clothes, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.
ⲍ̅ⲁⲥϫⲡⲟ ⲙⲡⲉⲥϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲡⲉⲥϣⲣⲡⲙⲙⲓⲥⲉ ⲁⲥϭⲟⲟⲗⲉϥ ⲛϩⲉⲛⲧⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲁⲥϫⲧⲟϥ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲟⲙϥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲉⲙⲙⲛⲙⲁ ϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲛⲁⲩ ϩⲙ ⲡⲙⲁ ⲛϭⲟⲓⲗⲉ
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, and keeping watch over their flock by night.
ⲏ̅ⲛⲉⲩⲛϩⲉⲛϣⲟⲟⲥ ⲇⲉ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉⲭⲱⲣⲁ ⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲉⲩϣⲟⲟⲡ ϩⲛ ⲧⲥⲱϣⲉ ⲉⲩⲁⲣⲉϩ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲣϣⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲩϣⲏ ⲉⲡⲉⲩⲟϩⲉ ⲛⲉⲥⲟⲟⲩ
9 And an angel of the Lord came to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were in great fear.
ⲑ̅ⲁⲡⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲟⲥ ⲙⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲟⲩⲱⲛϩ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲡⲉⲟⲟⲩ ⲙⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲣⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓⲛ ⲉⲣⲟⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲣ ϩⲟⲧⲉ ⲛⲟⲩⲛⲟϭ ⲛϩⲟⲧⲉ
10 And the angel said to them, Fear not; for lo! I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to the whole people;
ⲓ̅ⲡⲉϫⲉ ⲡⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲟⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲙⲡⲣⲣ ϩⲟⲧⲉ ⲉⲓⲥ ϩⲏⲧⲉ ⲅⲁⲣ ϯⲛⲁⲧⲁϣⲉⲟⲉⲓϣ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲛⲟⲩⲛⲟϭ ⲣⲣⲁϣⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲛⲁϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲙⲡⲗⲁⲟⲥ ⲧⲏⲣϥ
11 for to you hath been born this day, in the city of David, a Saviour, who is the Christ, the Lord.
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ϫⲉ ⲁⲩϫⲡⲟ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲙⲡⲟⲟⲩ ⲙⲡⲥⲱⲧⲏⲣ ⲉⲧⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲉⲭⲥ ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ϩⲛ ⲧⲡⲟⲗⲓⲥ ⲛⲇⲁⲩⲉⲓⲇ
12 And this shall be the sign to you: Ye shall find a babe wrapped in swathing-clothes, [[lying]] in a manger.
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲟⲩⲙⲁⲉⲓⲛ ⲛⲏⲧⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲁϩⲉ ⲉⲩϣⲏⲣⲉ ϣⲏⲙ ⲉϥϭⲟⲟⲗⲉ ⲛϩⲉⲛⲧⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲉϥⲕⲏ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲟⲙϥ
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying,
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲁⲩϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲇⲉ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩϣⲥⲛⲉ ⲛⲙⲡⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲟⲥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲟⲩⲙⲏⲏϣⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲥⲧⲣⲁⲧⲓⲁ ⲛⲧⲡⲉ ⲉⲩⲥⲙⲟⲩ ⲉⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ
14 “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men of good will!”
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲟⲟⲩ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉⲧϫⲟⲥⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ϯⲣⲏⲛⲏ ϩⲓϫⲛ ⲡⲕⲁϩ ϩⲛ ⲣⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲟⲩⲱϣ
15 And it came to pass, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said one to another, Let us go at once to Bethlehem, and see that which hath come to pass, which the Lord hath made known to us.
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ⲁⲥϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉⲛⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲟⲥ ⲃⲱⲕ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ϩⲓⲧⲟⲟⲧⲟⲩ ⲉⲧⲡⲉ ⲛⲉⲣⲉⲛϣⲟⲟⲥ ϣⲁϫⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲩⲉⲣⲏⲩ ϫⲉ ⲙⲁⲣⲛⲃⲱⲕ ϣⲁⲃⲏⲑⲗⲉⲉⲙ ⲛⲧⲛⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲡⲉⲓϣⲁϫⲉ ⲉⲛⲧⲁϥϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲉⲛⲧⲁⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲟⲩⲟⲛϩϥ ⲉⲣⲟⲛ
16 And they came with haste, and found Mary and Joseph, and the babe lying in the manger.
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ⲁⲩϭⲉⲡⲏ ⲇⲉ ⲁⲩⲉⲓ ⲁⲩϩⲉ ⲉⲙⲁⲣⲓⲁ ⲛⲙⲓⲱⲥⲏⲫ ⲛⲙⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ϣⲏⲙ ⲉϥⲕⲏ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲟⲙϥ
17 And when they had seen it, they made known abroad what had been told them concerning this child.
ⲓ̅ⲍ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲟⲩⲛⲁⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲁⲩⲉⲓⲙⲉ ⲉⲡϣⲁϫⲉ ⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩϫⲟⲟϥ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ϣⲏⲙ
18 And all who heard wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds.
ⲓ̅ⲏ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲁⲩⲣϣⲡⲏⲣⲉ ⲉϫⲛ ⲛⲉⲛⲧⲁⲛϣⲟⲟⲥ ϫⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲁⲩ
19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart.
ⲓ̅ⲑ̅ⲙⲁⲣⲓⲁ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲉⲥϩⲁⲣⲉϩ ⲉⲛⲉⲓϣⲁϫⲉ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ ⲡⲉ ⲉⲥⲕⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲥϩⲏⲧ
20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all which they had heard and seen, as had been told them.
ⲕ̅ⲁⲩⲕⲟⲧⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲛϭⲓ ⲛϣⲟⲟⲥ ⲉⲩϯ ⲉⲟⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲩⲥⲙⲟⲩ ⲉⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉϫⲛ ⲛⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩⲥⲟⲧⲙⲟⲩ ⲧⲏⲣⲟⲩ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲩⲛⲁⲩ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲑⲉ ⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩϫⲟⲟⲥ ⲛⲁⲩ
21 And when eight days were completed for him to be circumcised, his name was called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb.
ⲕ̅ⲁ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϣⲙⲟⲩⲛ ⲇⲉ ⲛϩⲟⲟⲩ ϫⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲩⲥⲃⲃⲏⲧϥ ⲁⲩⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲡⲉϥⲣⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ⲓⲏⲥ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁⲡⲁⲅⲅⲉⲗⲟⲥ ⲧⲁⲁϥ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲉⲙⲡⲁⲧⲥⲱⲱ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ϩⲛ ⲑⲏ
22 And when the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were completed, they brought him to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord,
ⲕ̅ⲃ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲟⲩϫⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϭⲓ ⲛⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲙⲡⲉⲩⲧⲃⲃⲟ ⲕⲁⲧⲁⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲙⲙⲱⲩⲥⲏⲥ ⲁⲩϫⲓⲧϥ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲑⲓⲓⲉⲣⲟⲥⲟⲗⲩⲙⲁ ⲉⲧⲁϩⲟϥ ⲉⲣⲁⲧϥ ⲙⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ
23 as it is written in the law of the Lord: “Every first-born male shall be called holy to the Lord,”
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲑⲉ ⲉⲧⲥⲏϩ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲙⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ϫⲉ ϩⲟⲟⲩⲧ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧⲛⲁⲟⲩⲱⲛ ⲉⲧⲟⲟⲧⲉ ⲉⲩⲉⲙⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲉⲧⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ⲙⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ
24 and to offer a sacrifice, according to what is directed in the law of the Lord: “A pair of turtle doves, or two young pigeons.”
ⲕ̅ⲇ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉϯ ⲛⲟⲩⲑⲩⲥⲓⲁ ⲕⲁⲧⲁ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁⲩϫⲟⲟϥ ϩⲙ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲙⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲥⲟⲉⲓϣ ⲛϭⲣⲙⲡϣⲁⲛ ⲏ ⲙⲁⲥ ⲥⲛⲁⲩ ⲛϭⲣⲟⲟⲙⲡⲉ
25 And lo! there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and he was a righteous and devout man, waiting for the consolation of Israel. And the Holy Spirit was upon him;
ⲕ̅ⲉ̅ⲉⲓⲥ ϩⲏⲏⲧⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲉⲩⲛⲟⲩⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲡⲉ ϩⲛ ⲑⲓⲉⲣⲟⲥⲟⲗⲩⲙⲁ ⲉⲡⲉϥⲣⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲥⲩⲙⲉⲱⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉⲓⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲛⲉⲩⲇⲓⲕⲁⲓⲟⲥ ⲡⲉ ⲣⲣⲉϥϣⲙϣⲉ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲉϥϭⲱϣⲧ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲏⲧϥ ⲙⲡⲥⲟⲗⲥⲗ ⲙⲡⲓⲥⲣⲁⲏⲗ ⲉⲩⲛⲟⲩⲡⲛⲁ ⲉϥⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲛⲙⲙⲁϥ
26 and it had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit, that he should not see death before he had seen the Christ of the Lord.
ⲕ̅ⲋ̅ⲉⲁⲩⲧⲁⲙⲟϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲛ ⲡⲉⲡⲛⲁ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲁⲁⲃ ϫⲉ ⲛϥⲛⲁⲙⲟⲩ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲙⲡϥⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲡⲉⲭⲥ ⲙⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ
27 And he came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for him according to the custom of the law,
ⲕ̅ⲍ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁϥⲉⲓ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲡⲛⲁ ⲉⲡⲉⲣⲡⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲧⲣⲉⲛⲉⲓⲟⲧⲉ ⲇⲉ ϫⲓ ⲙⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ϣⲏⲙ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲓⲏⲥ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲩⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲙⲡⲥⲱⲛⲧ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ϩⲁⲣⲟϥ
28 he took him in his arms, and blessed God, and said,
ⲕ̅ⲏ̅ⲛⲧⲟϥ ⲇⲉ ⲁϥϫⲓⲧϥ ⲉⲡⲉϥϩⲁⲙⲏⲣ ⲁϥⲥⲙⲟⲩ ⲉⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ
29 Lord! now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word;
ⲕ̅ⲑ̅ϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲛⲟⲩ ⲕⲛⲁⲕⲱ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲙⲡⲉⲕϩⲙϩⲁⲗ ⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲕⲁⲧⲁⲡⲉⲕϣⲁϫⲉ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲉⲓⲣⲏⲛⲏ
30 for mine eyes have seen thy salvation,

31 which thou hast prepared before the face of all the peoples;

33 And his father and his mother marveled at what was spoken concerning him.

34 And Simeon blessed them, and said to Mary his mother, Behold, this child is appointed for the fall and rising of many in Israel, and for a sign that will be spoken against; —
ⲗ̅ⲇ̅ⲁⲥⲩⲙⲉⲱⲛ ⲇⲉ ⲥⲙⲟⲩ ⲉⲣⲟⲟⲩ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲙⲙⲁⲣⲓⲁ ⲧⲉϥⲙⲁⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲉⲓⲥ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲕⲏ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲉⲓ ⲉⲩϩⲉ ⲛⲙⲟⲩⲧⲱⲟⲩⲛ ⲛϩⲁϩ ϩⲙ ⲡⲓⲥⲣⲁⲏⲗ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲩⲙⲁⲉⲓⲛ ⲉⲩⲱϩⲙ ϩⲓⲱⲱϥ
35 yea, a sword will pierce through thine own soul, —that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.

36 And there was Anna, a prophetess, daughter of Phanuel: of the tribe of Asher; she was of great age, and had lived with a husband seven years from her virginity;
ⲗ̅ⲋ̅ⲛⲉⲩⲛ ⲟⲩⲡⲣⲟⲫⲏⲧⲏⲧⲓⲥ ⲇⲉ ϫⲉ ⲁⲛⲛⲁ ⲧϣⲉⲉⲣⲉ ⲙⲫⲁⲛⲟⲩⲏⲗ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲛ ⲧⲉⲫⲩⲗⲏ ⲛⲁⲥⲏⲣ ⲧⲁⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲁⲥⲁⲓⲁⲓ ϩⲛ ϩⲉⲛϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲉⲛⲁϣⲱⲟⲩ ⲉⲁⲥⲣⲥⲁϣϥⲉ ⲣⲣⲟⲙⲡⲉ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲉⲥϩⲁⲓ ϫⲓⲛ ⲧⲉⲥⲙⲛⲧⲣⲟⲟⲩⲛⲉ
37 and she was a widow eighty-four years old, who never left the temple, worshipping with fastings and prayers night and day.
ⲗ̅ⲍ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲥⲣⲭⲏⲣⲁ ϣⲁⲧⲥⲣϩⲙⲉⲛⲉⲧⲁϥⲧⲉ ⲣⲣⲟⲙⲡⲉ ⲧⲁⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲉⲥⲥⲛⲡⲉⲣⲡⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲉⲥϣⲙϣⲉ ⲙⲡⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲙ ⲧⲉⲩϣⲏ ϩⲛ ϩⲉⲛⲛⲏⲥⲧⲓⲁ ⲛⲙϩⲉⲛⲥⲟⲡⲥ
38 And she came up at this very time, and gave thanks to God, and spoke of him to all that were looking for the redemption of Jerusalem.
ⲗ̅ⲏ̅ϩⲛ ⲧⲉⲩⲛⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲧⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲁⲥⲁϩⲉⲣⲁⲧⲥ ⲁⲥⲉⲝϩⲟⲙⲟⲗⲟⲅⲓ ⲙⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉⲥϣⲁϫⲉ ⲛⲙⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲉⲧϭⲱϣⲧ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲏⲧϥ ⲙⲡⲥⲱⲧⲉ ⲛⲑⲓⲉⲣⲟⲥⲟⲗⲩⲙⲁ
39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned to Galilee, to their own city Nazareth.
ⲗ̅ⲑ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲟⲩϫⲱⲕ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϭⲓ ϩⲱⲃ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲕⲁⲧⲁⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲙⲡϫⲟⲉⲓⲥ ⲁⲩⲕⲟⲧⲟⲩ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲧⲅⲁⲗⲓⲗⲁⲓⲁ ⲉⲧⲉⲩⲡⲟⲗⲉⲓⲥ ⲛⲁⲍⲁⲣⲉⲑ
40 And the child grew, and waxed strong, being filled with wisdom; and the grace of God was upon him.
ⲙ̅ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲇⲉ ϣⲏⲙ ⲛⲉⲁϥⲁⲓⲁⲉⲓ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉϥϭⲙϭⲟⲙ ⲉϥⲙⲉϩ ⲛⲧⲥⲟⲫⲓⲁ ⲉⲣⲉⲧⲉⲭⲁⲣⲓⲥ ⲙⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ϩⲓϫⲱϥ
41 Now his parents used to go yearly to Jerusalem at the feast of the passover.
ⲙ̅ⲁ̅ⲛⲉⲣⲉⲛⲉϥⲓⲟⲧⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲃⲏⲕ ⲡⲉ ⲧⲣⲣⲟⲙⲡⲉ ⲉⲑⲓⲉⲣⲟⲥⲟⲗⲩⲙⲁ ⲙⲡϣⲁ ⲙⲡⲡⲁⲥⲭⲁ
42 And when he was twelve years old, and they went up, after the custom of the feast,
ⲙ̅ⲃ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥⲣⲙⲛⲧⲥⲛⲟⲟⲩⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲣⲣⲟⲙⲡⲉ ⲉⲩⲛⲁⲃⲱⲕ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲕⲁⲧⲁⲡⲥⲱⲛⲧ ⲙⲡϣⲁⲁ
43 and had completed the days, on their returning, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and his parents did not know it,
ⲙ̅ⲅ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲟⲩϫⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛⲛⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ϩⲙ ⲡⲧⲣⲉⲩⲕⲟⲧⲟⲩ ⲁϥϭⲱ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡϣⲏⲣⲉ ϣⲏⲙ ⲓⲏⲥ ϩⲛ ⲑⲓⲉⲣⲟⲥⲟⲗⲩⲙⲁ ⲙⲡⲟⲩⲓⲙⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲛϭⲓ ⲛⲉϥⲓⲟⲧⲉ
44 but, supposing him to be in the company, went a day's journey; and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance;
ⲙ̅ⲇ̅ⲉⲩⲙⲉⲩⲉ ϫⲉ ϥϩⲛⲧⲉϩⲓⲏ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲟⲩⲣⲟⲩϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲟϣⲉ ⲁⲩϣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲥⲱϥ ϩⲛ ⲛⲉⲩⲥⲩⲅⲅⲉⲛⲏⲥ ⲙⲛ ⲛⲉⲧⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ
45 and not finding him, they returned to Jerusalem in search of him.

46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found him in the temple sitting in the midst of the teachers, both listening to them and asking them questions.
ⲙ̅ⲋ̅ⲁⲥϣⲱⲡⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲛⲛⲥⲁϣⲟⲙⲛⲧ ⲛϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲁⲩϩⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲣⲡⲉ ⲉϥϩⲙⲟⲟⲥ ⲛⲧⲙⲏⲧⲉ ⲛⲛⲥⲁϩ ⲉϥⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲉⲣⲟⲟⲩ ⲉϥϫⲛⲟⲩ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ
47 And all who heard him were astonished at his understanding and his answers.

48 And when they saw him, they were amazed; and his mother said to him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? behold, thy father and I have been seeking thee in much distress.
ⲙ̅ⲏ̅ⲁⲩⲛⲁⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲁⲩⲣϣⲡⲏⲣⲉ ⲡⲉϫⲉ ⲧⲉϥⲙⲁⲁⲩ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲁϣⲏⲣⲉ ⲛⲧⲁⲕⲣⲟⲩ ⲛⲁⲛ ϩⲓⲛⲁⲓ ⲉⲓⲥ ϩⲏⲏⲧⲉ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲙⲛ ⲡⲉⲕⲓⲱⲧ ⲉⲛⲙⲟⲕϩ ⲛϩⲏⲧ ⲉⲛϣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲥⲱⲕ
49 And he said to them, Why is it that ye have been seeking me? Did ye not know that I must be about my Father's business?
ⲙ̅ⲑ̅ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲟⲩ ⲧⲉⲧⲛϣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲥⲱⲓ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲁⲛ ϫⲉ ϩⲁⲡⲥ ⲉⲧⲣⲁϭⲱ ϩⲛ ⲛⲁⲡⲁⲓⲱⲧ
50 And they understood not what he spoke to them.
ⲛ̅ⲛⲧⲟⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲡⲟⲩⲓⲙⲉ ⲉⲡϣⲁϫⲉ ⲉⲛⲧⲁϥϫⲟⲟϥ ⲛⲁⲩ
51 And he went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject to them. And his mother kept all these things in her heart.

52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men.
