John 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
ஆரம்பத்தில் வார்த்தை இருந்தது, அந்த வார்த்தை இறைவனுடன் இருந்தது, அந்த வார்த்தை இறைவனாயிருந்தது.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
அந்த வார்த்தையானவர் ஆரம்பத்திலேயே இறைவனோடு இருந்தார்.
3 All things were made through him; and without him was nothing made that hath been made.
அந்த வார்த்தையானவர் மூலமாகவே எல்லாம் படைக்கப்பட்டன; படைக்கப்பட்டிருப்பவைகளில் எதுவுமே அவரில்லாமல் படைக்கப்படவில்லை.
4 In him is life; and the life was the light of men.
அவரில் ஜீவன் இருந்தது; அந்த ஜீவனே எல்லா மனிதருக்கும் வெளிச்சமாயிருந்தது.
5 And the light hath been shining in the darkness; and the darkness received it not.
அந்த வெளிச்சம் இருளிலே பிரகாசிக்கிறது, ஆனால் இருள் அதை ஒருபோதும் மேற்கொள்ளவில்லை.
6 There was a man, sent from God, whose name was John.
இறைவனால் அனுப்பப்பட்ட ஒரு மனிதன் இருந்தான்; அவனுடைய பெயர் யோவான்.
7 He came as a witness, to bear witness of the light, that through him all might believe.
தன் மூலமாய் எல்லா மக்களும் விசுவாசிக்கும்படியாகவே அந்த வெளிச்சத்தைக் குறித்து சாட்சி கொடுக்கும் ஒரு சாட்சியாகவே அந்த யோவான் வந்தான்.
8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness of the light.
அவன் வெளிச்சமாய் இருக்கவில்லை; அவனோ அந்த வெளிச்சத்திற்கான ஒரு சாட்சியாக மாத்திரமே வந்தான்.
9 The true light, which enlighteneth every man, was coming into the world.
உலகத்திற்குள் வந்து ஒவ்வொரு மனிதனுக்கும் வெளிச்சத்தைக் கொடுத்த வெளிச்சமே அந்த உண்மையான வெளிச்சம்.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world knew him not.
அந்த வார்த்தையானவர் உலகத்தில் இருந்தார். உலகம் அவர் மூலமாய் படைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தும், உலகமோ அவரை இன்னார் என்று அறிந்துகொள்ளவில்லை.
11 He came to his own, and his own received him not.
அவர் தமக்குரிய இடத்திற்கே வந்தார். ஆனால் அவருடைய சொந்த மக்களோ, அவரை ஏற்றுக்கொள்ளவில்லை.
12 But as many as received him, to them he gave power to become children of God, —to those who believed in his name;
ஆனால் அவர் தம்மை ஏற்றுக்கொண்டு தம்முடைய பெயரில் விசுவாசம் வைத்த அனைவருக்கும், இறைவனுடைய பிள்ளைகளாவதற்கு உரிமையைக் கொடுத்தார்.
13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
இப்பிள்ளைகள் இரத்த உறவினாலோ, மனித தீர்மானத்தினாலோ, புருஷனுடைய விருப்பத்தினாலோ உண்டானவர்கள் அல்ல. மாறாக இவர்கள் இறைவனால் பிறப்பிக்கப்பட்டவர்கள்.
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; and we beheld his glory, a glory as of an only begotten of a father.
வார்த்தையானவரே மனித உடல் எடுத்து நம்மிடையே வாழ்ந்தார். நாங்கள் அவருடைய மகிமையைக் கண்டோம். பிதாவின் ஒரே மகனுக்குரிய அந்த மகிமையைக் கண்டோம். அந்த வார்த்தையானவர் கிருபையும் சத்தியமும் நிறைந்தவராய் பிதாவிடமிருந்து வந்தவர்.
15 John beareth witness of him, and crieth, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me hath gone before me; for he was before me.
யோவான் அவரைக்குறித்து சாட்சி கொடுத்து: “எனக்குப்பின் வருகிறவர் என்னிலும் மேன்மையானவராய் இருக்கிறார். ஏனெனில், ‘அவர் எனக்கு முன்னிருந்தவர் என்று இவரைக் குறித்தே நான் சொன்னேன்’ என அவன் சத்தமிட்டுச் சொன்னான்.”
16 For out of his fullness have we all received, and grace upon grace.
அவருடைய நிறைவிலிருந்து, நாம் எல்லோரும் கிருபையின்மேல் கிருபையை பெற்றிருக்கிறோம்.
17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
ஏனெனில் சட்டம் மோசேயின் மூலமாய் கொடுக்கப்பட்டது; கிருபையும் சத்தியமும் இயேசுகிறிஸ்துவின் மூலமாய் வந்தது.
18 No one hath ever seen God; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath made him known.
இறைவனை எவருமே ஒருபோதும் கண்டதில்லை. பிதாவாகிய இறைவனின் இருதயத்தின் அருகில் இருக்கின்ற அவருடைய ஒரே மகனும் தாமே இறைவனுமாயிருக்கிறவர் பிதாவை வெளிப்படுத்தினார்.
19 And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem, to ask him, Who art thou?
எருசலேமைச் சேர்ந்த யூத தலைவர்கள் யோவான் யார் என்று விசாரித்து அறியும்படி, ஆசாரியர்களையும் லேவியரையும் அவனிடத்தில் அனுப்பினார்கள்; அப்பொழுது அவன் கொடுத்த சாட்சி இதுவே:
20 And he declared, and did not deny; and he declared, I am not the Christ.
“நான் கிறிஸ்து அல்ல” என்று ஒளிவுமறைவின்றி மறுக்காமல், அறிக்கை செய்தான்.
21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he said, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No.
அப்பொழுது அவர்கள் யோவானிடம், “அப்படியானால் நீர் யார்? நீர் எலியாவா?” என்றார்கள். அதற்கு அவன், “நான் எலியாவும் அல்ல” என்றான். தொடர்ந்து அவர்கள், “நீர் வரவேண்டிய இறைவாக்கினரா?” என்று கேட்டார்கள். அதற்கும் அவன், “இல்லை” என்றான்.
22 They said therefore to him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to those who sent us; what sayest thou of thyself?
இறுதியாக அவர்கள், “நீர் யார்? எங்களை அனுப்பியவர்களுக்கு நாங்கள் போய்ச் சொல்லும்படி நீர் ஒரு பதிலைச் சொல்லும். நீர் உம்மைக் குறித்து என்ன சொல்லுகிறீர்?” என்று கேட்டார்கள்.
23 He said, I am “a voice of one crying aloud in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord,” as said Isaiah the prophet.
யோவான் அதற்கு, இறைவாக்கினன் ஏசாயா கூறியிருந்த வார்த்தைகள் மூலம் பதிலளித்து, “கர்த்தருக்கு வழியை நேராக்குங்கள் என்று பாலைவனத்தில் கூப்பிடுகிறவனுடைய சத்தம் நானே” என்றான்.
24 And they were sent from the Pharisees;
பரிசேயர்களால் அனுப்பப்பட்ட சிலர்
25 and they asked him and said to him, Why then dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?
யோவானிடம், “நீர் கிறிஸ்துவுமல்ல, எலியாவுமல்ல, வரவேண்டிய இறைவாக்கினருமல்ல என்றால், ஏன் நீர் திருமுழுக்கு கொடுக்கிறீர்?” என்று கேட்டார்கள்.
26 John answered them, saying, I baptize in water. There standeth one among you whom ye know not,
யோவான் அதற்குப் பதிலாக, “நான் தண்ணீரினால் திருமுழுக்கு கொடுக்கிறேன். ஆனால் உங்கள் நடுவில் ஒருவர் நிற்கிறார். நீங்களோ அவரை அறியாதிருக்கிறீர்கள்.
27 he who cometh after me, the latchet of whose sandal I am not worthy to loose.
அவருடைய பாதரட்சைகளின் வாரை அவிழ்க்கிற ஒரு அடிமையாக இருக்கவும் நான் தகுதியற்றவன்” என்றான்.
28 These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
இவை எல்லாம் யோர்தானின் அக்கரையிலிருந்த பெத்தானியா என்ற கிராமத்தில் நடைபெற்றது. அங்குதான் யோவான் திருமுழுக்கு கொடுத்துக் கொண்டிருந்தான்.
29 The next day he seeth Jesus coming to him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world!
மறுநாளிலே இயேசு தன்னிடம் வருவதை யோவான் கண்டு, “இதோ பாருங்கள், இறைவனின் ஆட்டுக்குட்டி! இவரே உலகத்தின் பாவத்தை நீக்குகிறவர்.
30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man, who hath gone before me; for he was before me.
‘எனக்குப்பின் வருகிறவர் என்னிலும் மேன்மையானவராய் இருக்கிறார். அவர் எனக்கு முன்னமே இருந்தார்’ என்று நான் இவரைக் குறித்தே சொன்னேன்.
31 And I knew him not; but that he might be made manifest to Israel, therefore I came baptizing in water.
நானும் அவரை அறியாதிருந்தேன். அவரை இஸ்ரயேலருக்கு வெளிப்படுத்தவே, நான் வந்து தண்ணீரில் திருமுழுக்கு கொடுத்தேன்” என்றான்.
32 And John bore witness, saying, I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove from heaven, and it abode upon him.
பின்பு யோவான் இந்த சாட்சியை சொன்னான்: “பரலோகத்திலிருந்து ஆவியானவர் ஒரு புறாவைப்போல் தம்மேல் இறங்கி, இயேசுவின்மேல் அமர்வதைக் கண்டேன்.
33 And I knew him not; but he who sent me to baptize in water, the same said to me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding on him, he it is that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit.
தண்ணீரினால் திருமுழுக்கு கொடுக்கும்படி என்னை அனுப்பினவர் எனக்குச் சொல்லியிருக்காவிட்டால், நானும் அவரை அறிந்திருக்கமாட்டேன். என்னை அனுப்பினவரோ, ‘பரிசுத்த ஆவியானவர் இறங்கி யார்மீது தங்குவதை நீ காண்கிறாயோ, அவரே பரிசுத்த ஆவியானவரால் திருமுழுக்கு கொடுக்கிறவர்’ என்று சொல்லியிருந்தார்.
34 And I have seen and have borne witness, that this is the Son of God.
இதை நான் கண்டேன். இவரே இறைவனின் மகன் என்று சாட்சி கூறுகிறேன்” என்றான்.
35 On the morrow John was again standing, and two of his disciples;
மறுநாளிலே மீண்டும் யோவான் தன்னுடைய சீடர்களில் இரண்டு பேருடன் அங்கு நின்றுகொண்டிருந்தான்.
36 and looking upon Jesus as he was walking, he saith, Behold, the Lamb of God!
இயேசு அவ்வழியாய் கடந்துபோகிறதை அவன் கண்டு, “இதோ பாருங்கள், இறைவனுடைய ஆட்டுக்குட்டி!” என்றான்.
37 The two disciples heard him speaking, and they followed Jesus.
அந்த இரண்டு சீடர்களும் அவன் இப்படிச் சொன்னதைக் கேட்டு, இயேசுவைப் பின்பற்றிச் சென்றார்கள்.
38 Jesus turning and seeing them following, saith to them, What seek ye? And they said to him, Rabbi, (that is to say, when interpreted, Teacher, ) where dost thou dwell?
இயேசு திரும்பிப்பார்த்து, அவர்கள் தம்மைப் பின்பற்றி வருகிறதைக் கண்டு, “உங்களுக்கு என்ன வேண்டும்?” என்று அவர்களிடம் கேட்டார். அதற்கு அவர்கள், “போதகரே, நீர் எங்கே தங்கியிருக்கிறீர்?” என்று கேட்டார்கள்.
39 He saith to them, Come, and ye shall see. They came therefore and saw where he dwelt; and they abode with him that day. It was about the tenth hour.
இயேசு அவர்களுக்குப் பதிலாக, “வந்து, நீங்களே பாருங்கள்” என்றார். எனவே அவர்கள் அவருடன் போய், இயேசு தங்கும் இடத்தைக் கண்டு, அந்த நாளை அவருடன் கழித்தார்கள். அப்பொழுது நேரம் பிற்பகல் நான்கு மணியாயிருந்தது.
40 One of the two who heard what John said, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
யோவான் சொன்னதைக் கேட்டு, இயேசுவைப் பின்பற்றிச் சென்ற அந்த இருவரில் ஒருவனின் பெயர் அந்திரேயா; இவன் சீமோன் பேதுருவின் சகோதரன்.
41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith to him, We have found the Messiah; (which is, when interpreted, the Christ.)
அந்திரேயா போய், முதலில் தன் சகோதரன் சீமோனைக் கண்டு அவனிடம், “நாங்கள் மேசியாவைக் கண்டோம்” என்று சொன்னான். மேசியா என்பதற்கு கிறிஸ்து என்று அர்த்தம்.
42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looking upon him said, Thou art Simon, the son of John; thou shalt be called Cephas; (which signifieth Peter, that is, Rock.)
அவன் சீமோனை இயேசுவினிடத்திற்குக் கூட்டிக்கொண்டு வந்தான். இயேசு சீமோனைப் பார்த்து, “யோவானின் மகனாகிய சீமோனே, நீ கேபா என்று அழைக்கப்படுவாய்” என்றார். கேபா என்றால் கற்பாறை என்று பொருள்படும். அது கிரேக்க மொழியிலே பேதுரு எனப்படும்.
43 On the morrow he determined to go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip. And Jesus saith to him, Follow me.
மறுநாளிலே இயேசு கலிலேயாவுக்குப் போகத் தீர்மானித்தார். அவர் பிலிப்புவைக் கண்டு அவனிடம், “என்னைப் பின்பற்று” என்றார்.
44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
அந்திரேயாவையும் பேதுருவையும் போன்றே பிலிப்புவும் பெத்சாயிதா பட்டணத்தைச் சேர்ந்தவன்.
45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith to him, We have found him of whom Moses in the Law, and the Prophets wrote, Jesus, the son of Joseph, who is of Nazareth.
பின்பு பிலிப்பு நாத்தான்யேலைக் கண்டு அவனிடம், “மோசே தமது சட்டத்தில் குறிப்பிட்டிருந்தவரை நாங்கள் கண்டோம். அவரைக் குறித்தே இறைவாக்கினர்களும் எழுதியிருக்கிறார்கள். நாசரேத் ஊரைச் சேர்ந்தவரும், யோசேப்பின் மகனுமான இயேசுவே அவர்” என்றான்.
46 And Nathanael said to him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith to him, Come and see.
நாத்தான்யேலோ அவனிடம், “நாசரேத்தா! அங்கிருந்து நன்மை ஏதும் வரக்கூடுமோ?” என்று கேட்டான். அதற்கு பிலிப்பு, “வா, வந்து பார்” என்றான்.
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile.
அப்படியே நாத்தான்யேலும், தன்னை நோக்கி வருவதை இயேசு கண்டு, அவனைக்குறித்து, “இவன் ஒரு உண்மையான இஸ்ரயேலன், கபடம் ஏதுமில்லாதவன்” என்றார்.
48 Nathanael saith to him, Whence dost thou know me? Jesus answered and said to him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig-tree, I saw thee.
அப்பொழுது நாத்தான்யேல், “என்னை உமக்கு எப்படித் தெரியும்?” என்று கேட்டான். இயேசு அவனுக்கு மறுமொழியாக, “பிலிப்பு உன்னைக் கூப்பிடுமுன், நீ அத்திமரத்தின்கீழ் இருக்கும்போதே நான் உன்னைக் கண்டுகொண்டேன்” என்றார்.
49 Nathanael answered him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art the king of Israel.
அப்பொழுது நாத்தான்யேல், “போதகரே, நீரே இறைவனின் மகன்; நீரே இஸ்ரயேலின் அரசன்” என்று அறிவித்தான்.
50 Jesus answered and said to him, Because I said to thee, I saw thee under the fig-tree, dost thou believe? Thou shalt see greater things than these.
அதற்கு இயேசு அவனிடம், “நான் அத்திமரத்தின் கீழே உன்னைக் கண்டேன் என்று உனக்குச் சொன்னதினாலேயா நீ என்னை விசுவாசிக்கிறாய்? நீ இதைப் பார்க்கிலும் பெரிதான காரியங்களைக் காண்பாய்” என்றார்.
51 And he saith to him, Truly, truly do I say to you, Ye will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
அவர் தொடர்ந்து சொன்னதாவது, “நான் உங்களுக்கு உண்மையைச் சொல்கிறேன், பரலோகம் திறந்திருக்கிறதையும், இறைவனுடைய தூதர்கள் மானிடமகனாகிய என்னிடத்திலிருந்து மேலே போவதையும், இறங்கி வருவதையும் நீங்கள் காண்பீர்கள்” என்றார்.
