John 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
| בראשית היה הדבר והדבר היה את האלהים ואלהים היה הדבר׃ |
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
| הוא היה בראשית אצל האלהים׃ |
3 All things were made through him; and without him was nothing made that hath been made.
| הכל נהיה על ידו ומבלעדיו לא נהיה כל אשר נהיה׃ |
4 In him is life; and the life was the light of men.
| בו היו חיים והחיים היו אור בני האדם׃ |
5 And the light hath been shining in the darkness; and the darkness received it not.
| והאור בחשך זרח והחשך לא השיגו׃ |
6 There was a man, sent from God, whose name was John.
| ויהי איש שלוח מאת האלהים ושמו יוחנן׃ |
7 He came as a witness, to bear witness of the light, that through him all might believe.
| הוא בא לעדות להעיד על האור למען יאמינו כלם על ידו׃ |
8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness of the light.
| הוא לא היה האור כי אם להעיד על האור׃ |
9 The true light, which enlighteneth every man, was coming into the world.
| האור האמתי המאיר לכל אדם היה בא אל העולם׃ |
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world knew him not.
| בעולם היה ועל ידו נהיה העולם והעולם לא הכירו׃ |
11 He came to his own, and his own received him not.
| הוא בא אל אשר לו ואשר המה לו לא קבלהו׃ |
12 But as many as received him, to them he gave power to become children of God, —to those who believed in his name;
| והמקבלים אתו נתן עז למו להיות בנים לאלהים המאמינים בשמו׃ |
13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
| אשר לא מדם ולא מחפץ הבשר אף לא מחפץ גבר כי אם מאלהים נולדו׃ |
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; and we beheld his glory, a glory as of an only begotten of a father.
| והדבר נהיה בשר וישכן בתוכנו ונחזה תפארתו כתפארת בן יחיד לאביו רב חסד ואמת׃ |
15 John beareth witness of him, and crieth, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me hath gone before me; for he was before me.
| ויוחנן מעיד עליו ויקרא לאמר הנה זה הוא אשר אמרתי עליו הבא אחרי היה לפני כי קדם לי היה׃ |
16 For out of his fullness have we all received, and grace upon grace.
| וממלואו לקחנו כלנו חסד על חסד׃ |
17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
| כי התורה נתנה ביד משה והחסד והאמת באו על ידי ישוע המשיח׃ |
18 No one hath ever seen God; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath made him known.
| את האלהים לא ראה איש מעולם הבן היחיד אשר בחיק האב הוא הודיע׃ |
19 And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem, to ask him, Who art thou?
| וזאת היא עדות יוחנן בשלח היהודים מירושלים כהנים ולוים לשאל אתו מי אתה׃ |
20 And he declared, and did not deny; and he declared, I am not the Christ.
| ויודה ולא כחש ויודה לאמר אני אינני המשיח׃ |
21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he said, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No.
| וישאלו אתו מי אפוא אתה האתה אליהו ויאמר אינני האתה הנביא ויען לא׃ |
22 They said therefore to him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to those who sent us; what sayest thou of thyself?
| ויאמרו אליו מי זה אתה למען נשיב לשלחינו דבר מה תאמר עליך׃ |
23 He said, I am “a voice of one crying aloud in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord,” as said Isaiah the prophet.
| ויאמר אני קול קורא במדבר פנו דרך יהוה כאשר דבר ישעיהו הנביא׃ |
24 And they were sent from the Pharisees;
| והמשלחים היו מן הפרושים׃ |
25 and they asked him and said to him, Why then dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?
| וישאלהו ויאמרו אליו מדוע אפוא מטביל אתה אם אינך המשיח או אליה או הנביא׃ |
26 John answered them, saying, I baptize in water. There standeth one among you whom ye know not,
| ויען אתם יוחנן ויאמר אנכי מטביל במים ובתוככם עומד אשר לא ידעתם אתו׃ |
27 he who cometh after me, the latchet of whose sandal I am not worthy to loose.
| הוא הבא אחרי אשר היה לפני ואני נקלתי מהתיר שרוך נעליו׃ |
28 These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
| זאת היתה בבית עברה מעבר לירדן מקום אשר יוחנן מטביל שם׃ |
29 The next day he seeth Jesus coming to him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world!
| ויהי ממחרת וירא יוחנן את ישוע בא אליו ויאמר הנה שה האלהים הנשא חטאת העולם׃ |
30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man, who hath gone before me; for he was before me.
| זה הוא אשר אמרתי עליו אחרי יבא איש אשר היה לפני כי קדם לי היה׃ |
31 And I knew him not; but that he might be made manifest to Israel, therefore I came baptizing in water.
| ואני לא ידעתיו כי אם בעבור יגלה בישראל באתי אני לטבל במים׃ |
32 And John bore witness, saying, I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove from heaven, and it abode upon him.
| ויעד יוחנן ויאמר חזיתי הרוח כדמות יונה ירדת משמים ותנח עליו׃ |
33 And I knew him not; but he who sent me to baptize in water, the same said to me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding on him, he it is that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit.
| ואני לא ידעתיו אולם השלח אתי לטבל במים הוא אמר אלי את אשר תראה הרוח ירדת ונחה עליו הנה זה הוא אשר יטבל ברוח הקדש׃ |
34 And I have seen and have borne witness, that this is the Son of God.
| ואני ראיתי ואעידה כי זה הוא בן האלהים׃ |
35 On the morrow John was again standing, and two of his disciples;
| ויהי ממחרת ויסף יוחנן ויעמד ושנים מתלמידיו עמו׃ |
36 and looking upon Jesus as he was walking, he saith, Behold, the Lamb of God!
| ויבט אל ישוע והוא מתהלך ויאמר הנה שה האלהים׃ |
37 The two disciples heard him speaking, and they followed Jesus.
| ושני תלמידיו שמעו את דברו וילכו אחרי ישוע׃ |
38 Jesus turning and seeing them following, saith to them, What seek ye? And they said to him, Rabbi, (that is to say, when interpreted, Teacher, ) where dost thou dwell?
| ויפן ישוע אחריו וירא אתם הלכים אחריו ויאמר אליהם מה תבקשו ויאמרו אליו רבי פרושו מורי איפה תלין׃ |
39 He saith to them, Come, and ye shall see. They came therefore and saw where he dwelt; and they abode with him that day. It was about the tenth hour.
| ויאמר אליהם באו וראו ויבאו ויראו את מקום מלונו וישבו עמו ביום ההוא והעת כשעה העשירית׃ |
40 One of the two who heard what John said, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
| ואחד מן השנים אשר שמעו מאת יוחנן והלכו אחריו הוא אנדרי אחי שמעון פטרוס׃ |
41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith to him, We have found the Messiah; (which is, when interpreted, the Christ.)
| הוא פגש בראשונה את שמעון אחיו ויאמר אליו את המשיח מצאנו אשר תרגומו כריסטוס׃ |
42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looking upon him said, Thou art Simon, the son of John; thou shalt be called Cephas; (which signifieth Peter, that is, Rock.)
| ויוליכהו אל ישוע ויהי כהביט אליו ישוע ויאמר שמעון בן יונה לך יקרא כיפא אשר תרגומו פטרוס׃ |
43 On the morrow he determined to go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip. And Jesus saith to him, Follow me.
| ויהי ממחרת ויואל ישוע לצאת הגלילה וימצא את פילפוס ויאמר אליו לך אחרי׃ |
44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
| ופילפוס היה מבית צידה עיר אנדרי ופטרוס׃ |
45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith to him, We have found him of whom Moses in the Law, and the Prophets wrote, Jesus, the son of Joseph, who is of Nazareth.
| ויפגע פילפוס את נתנאל ויאמר אליו מצאנו אתו אשר כתב משה בספר התורה והנביאים את ישוע בן יוסף מנצרת׃ |
46 And Nathanael said to him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith to him, Come and see.
| ויאמר אליו נתנאל המנצרת תצא לנו טובה ויאמר אליו בא וראה׃ |
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile.
| וירא ישוע את נתנאל בא לקראתו ויאמר עליו הנה באמת בן ישראל אשר אין בו רמיה׃ |
48 Nathanael saith to him, Whence dost thou know me? Jesus answered and said to him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig-tree, I saw thee.
| ויאמר אליו נתנאל מאין ידעתני ויען ישוע ויאמר לו בטרם קרא לך פילפוס בהיותך תחת התאנה אנכי ראיתיך׃ |
49 Nathanael answered him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art the king of Israel.
| ויען נתנאל ויאמר אליו רבי אתה בן אלהים אתה הוא מלך ישראל׃ |
50 Jesus answered and said to him, Because I said to thee, I saw thee under the fig-tree, dost thou believe? Thou shalt see greater things than these.
| ויען ישוע ויאמר אליו על אמרי לך כי תחת התאנה ראיתיך האמנת הנה גדלות מאלה תראה׃ |
51 And he saith to him, Truly, truly do I say to you, Ye will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
| ויאמר אליו אמן אמן אני אמר לכם מעתה תראו השמים נפתחים ומלאכי אלהים עלים וירדים על בן אלהים׃ |
