John 1
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
૧પ્રારંભમાં શબ્દ હતા. તે ઈશ્વરની સાથે હતા. તે ઈશ્વર હતા.
2 The same was in the beginning with God.
૨તે જ પ્રારંભમાં ઈશ્વરની સાથે હતા.
3 All things were made through him; and without him was nothing made that hath been made.
૩તેમના થી જ સઘળું ઉત્પન્ન થયું; એટલે જે કંઈ ઉત્પન્ન થયું તે તેમના વિના થયું નહિ.
4 In him is life; and the life was the light of men.
૪તેમનાંમાં જીવન હતું; તે જીવન માણસોનું અજવાળું હતું.
5 And the light hath been shining in the darkness; and the darkness received it not.
૫તે અજવાળું અંધારામાં પ્રકાશે છે, પણ અંધારાએ તેને બુજાવ્યું નહિ.
6 There was a man, sent from God, whose name was John.
૬ઈશ્વરે મોકલેલો એક માણસ આવ્યો, તેનું નામ યોહાન હતું.
7 He came as a witness, to bear witness of the light, that through him all might believe.
૭તે સાક્ષી માટે આવ્યો કે અજવાળા વિષે સાક્ષી કરાવે, કે જેથી સર્વ તેના દ્વારા વિશ્વાસ કરે.
8 He was not the light, but came to bear witness of the light.
૮યોહાન પોતે તે અજવાળું ન હતો, પણ અજવાળા વિષે સાક્ષી આપવાને આવ્યો હતો.
9 The true light, which enlighteneth every man, was coming into the world.
૯ખરું અજવાળું તે ઈસુ હતા કે, જે દુનિયામાં આવીને દરેક માણસને પ્રકાશ આપે છે.
10 He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world knew him not.
૧૦તેઓ દુનિયામાં હતા અને તેમના દ્વારા દુનિયા ઉત્પન્ન થઇ છે અને મનુષ્યોએ તેમને ઓળખ્યા નહિ.
11 He came to his own, and his own received him not.
૧૧તે પોતાના લોકોની પાસે આવ્યા, પણ તેમણે તેમનો અંગીકાર કર્યો નહિ.
12 But as many as received him, to them he gave power to become children of God, —to those who believed in his name;
૧૨છતાં જેટલાંએ તેમનો અંગીકાર કર્યો, એટલે જેટલાં તેમના નામ પર વિશ્વાસ કરે છે, તેટલાંને તેમણે ઈશ્વરનાં સંતાન થવાનો અધિકાર આપ્યો.
13 who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
૧૩તેઓ લોહીથી નહિ કે, દેહની ઇચ્છાથી નહિ કે, મનુષ્યની ઇચ્છાથી નહિ, પણ ઈશ્વરથી જન્મ પામ્યા.
14 And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, full of grace and truth; and we beheld his glory, a glory as of an only begotten of a father.
૧૪અને શબ્દ સદેહ થઈને આપણામાં વસ્યા અને પિતાના એકનાએક પુત્રના મહિમા જેવો તેમનો મહિમા અમે જોયો; તે કૃપા તથા સત્યતાથી ભરપૂર હતા.
15 John beareth witness of him, and crieth, saying, This was he of whom I said, He that cometh after me hath gone before me; for he was before me.
૧૫યોહાને તેમના વિષે સાક્ષી આપી અને પોકારીને કહ્યું કે, “જેમનાં વિષે મેં કહ્યું હતું કે, તેઓ એ જ છે, ‘જે મારી પાછળ આવે છે તે મારા કરતા પણ મોટો છે, કેમ કે તે મારી અગાઉ હતા.”
16 For out of his fullness have we all received, and grace upon grace.
૧૬કેમ કે અમે સર્વ તેમની ભરપૂરીમાંથી કૃપા ઉપર કૃપા પામ્યા.
17 For the Law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
૧૭નિયમશાસ્ત્ર મૂસા દ્વારા આપવામાં આવ્યું; પણ કૃપા તથા સત્યતા ઈસુ ખ્રિસ્ત દ્વારા આવ્યાં.
18 No one hath ever seen God; the only begotten God, who is in the bosom of the Father, he hath made him known.
૧૮ઈશ્વરને કોઈ માણસે કદી જોયા નથી; તેમનો એકનો એક દીકરો, કે જે પિતાની ગોદમાં છે, તેણે ઈશ્વરને પ્રગટ કર્યા છે.
19 And this is the witness of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem, to ask him, Who art thou?
૧૯જયારે યહૂદીઓએ યરુશાલેમથી યાજકોને તથા લેવીઓને યોહાન પાસે એવું પૂછવા મોકલ્યા કે, તું કોણ છે? ત્યારે તેની સાક્ષી આ હતી;
20 And he declared, and did not deny; and he declared, I am not the Christ.
૨૦એટલે તેણે નકાર કર્યો નહિ, પણ કબૂલ કર્યું કે, “હું તો ખ્રિસ્ત નથી.”
21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah? And he said, I am not. Art thou the prophet? And he answered, No.
૨૧તેઓએ તેને પૂછ્યું, “તો શું તું એલિયા છે?” તેણે કહ્યું, “હું તે નથી.” શું તું આવનાર પ્રબોધક છે? તેણે ઉત્તર આપ્યો કે, ‘ના.’”
22 They said therefore to him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to those who sent us; what sayest thou of thyself?
૨૨માટે તેઓએ તેને પૂછ્યું કે, ‘તું કોણ છે?’ કે જેઓએ અમને મોકલ્યા તેઓને અમે ઉત્તર આપીએ. તું પોતાના વિષે શું કહે છે?
23 He said, I am “a voice of one crying aloud in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord,” as said Isaiah the prophet.
૨૩તેણે કહ્યું, “યશાયા પ્રબોધકે જે કહ્યું હતું કે “અરણ્યમાં પોકારનારની એવી વાણી કે, ‘પ્રભુનો માર્ગ તૈયાર કરો, તેમના રસ્તા સીધા કરો.’”
24 And they were sent from the Pharisees;
૨૪ફરોશીઓ તરફથી તેઓને મોકલવામાં આવ્યા હતા.
25 and they asked him and said to him, Why then dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?
૨૫તેઓએ તેને પૂછ્યું કે, ‘જો તું તે ખ્રિસ્ત, એલિયા અથવા આવનાર પ્રબોધક નથી, તો તું બાપ્તિસ્મા કેમ આપે છે?’”
26 John answered them, saying, I baptize in water. There standeth one among you whom ye know not,
૨૬યોહાને તેઓને ઉત્તર આપ્યો કે, “હું પાણીથી બાપ્તિસ્મા આપું છું, પણ તમારી મધ્યે એક ઊભા છે, જેમને તમે ઓળખતા નથી;
27 he who cometh after me, the latchet of whose sandal I am not worthy to loose.
૨૭તેઓ એ જ છે જે મારી પાછળ આવે છે અને તેમના ચંપલની દોરી છોડવા હું યોગ્ય નથી.”
28 These things took place in Bethany beyond the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
૨૮યર્દનને પેલે પાર બેથાની જ્યાં યોહાન બાપ્તિસ્મા આપતો હતો, ત્યાં એ ઘટનાઓ ઘટી.
29 The next day he seeth Jesus coming to him, and saith, Behold, the Lamb of God, who taketh away the sin of the world!
૨૯બીજે દિવસે તે પોતાની પાસે ઈસુને આવતા જોઈને કહે છે કે, “જુઓ, ઈશ્વરનું હલવાન, જે માનવજગતનું પાપ દૂર કરે છે!
30 This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man, who hath gone before me; for he was before me.
૩૦તેઓ એ જ છે જેમનાં વિષે મેં કહ્યું હતું, ‘મારી પાછળ જે એક પુરુષ આવે છે, તે મારા કરતા પણ મોટો છે, કેમ કે તે મારી અગાઉ હતા.
31 And I knew him not; but that he might be made manifest to Israel, therefore I came baptizing in water.
૩૧મેં તેમને ઓળખ્યા ન હતા; પણ તે ઇઝરાયલની આગળ પ્રગટ થાય, માટે હું પાણીથી બાપ્તિસ્મા આપતો આવ્યો છું.’”
32 And John bore witness, saying, I have seen the Spirit descending as a dove from heaven, and it abode upon him.
૩૨યોહાને સાક્ષી આપી કે, ‘મેં પવિત્ર આત્માને કબૂતરની જેમ સ્વર્ગથી ઊતરતા જોયા; અને તે તેમના પર રહ્યા.
33 And I knew him not; but he who sent me to baptize in water, the same said to me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending and abiding on him, he it is that baptizeth in the Holy Spirit.
૩૩મેં તેમને ઓળખ્યા ન હતા; પણ જેમણે મને પાણીથી બાપ્તિસ્મા આપવા મોકલ્યો, તેમણે જ મને કહ્યું હતું કે, જેમનાં પર તું આત્માને ઊતરતા તથા રહેતા જોશે, તે જ પવિત્ર આત્માથી બાપ્તિસ્મા કરનાર છે.
34 And I have seen and have borne witness, that this is the Son of God.
૩૪મેં જોયું છે અને સાક્ષી આપી છે કે આ જ ઈશ્વરના દીકરા છે.’”
35 On the morrow John was again standing, and two of his disciples;
૩૫વળી બીજે દિવસે યોહાન પોતાના બે શિષ્યોની સાથે ઊભો હતો.
36 and looking upon Jesus as he was walking, he saith, Behold, the Lamb of God!
૩૬તેણે ઈસુને ચાલતા જોઈને કહ્યું કે, ‘જુઓ, ઈશ્વરનું હલવાન!’”
37 The two disciples heard him speaking, and they followed Jesus.
૩૭તે બે શિષ્યો યોહાનનું બોલવું સાંભળીને ઈસુની પાછળ ગયા.
38 Jesus turning and seeing them following, saith to them, What seek ye? And they said to him, Rabbi, (that is to say, when interpreted, Teacher, ) where dost thou dwell?
૩૮ઈસુએ ફરીને તેઓને પાછળ આવતા જોઈને કહ્યું કે, ‘તમે શું શોધો છો?’ તેઓએ તેમને કહ્યું, ‘રાબ્બી ‘એટલે ગુરુજી,’ તમે ક્યાં રહો છો?’”
39 He saith to them, Come, and ye shall see. They came therefore and saw where he dwelt; and they abode with him that day. It was about the tenth hour.
૩૯તેમણે તેઓને કહ્યું કે, ‘આવી અને જુઓ.’ માટે તેઓ ગયા અને ઈસુ જ્યાં રહેતા હતા તે જોયું; તે દિવસે તેઓ ઈસુની સાથે રહ્યા; તે સમયે આશરે સાંજના ચાર વાગ્યા હતા.
40 One of the two who heard what John said, and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter's brother.
૪૦જે બે શિષ્યો યોહાનનું બોલવું સાંભળીને તેમની પાછળ ગયા હતા, તેઓમાંનો એક સિમોન પિતરનો ભાઈ આન્દ્રિયા હતો.
41 He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith to him, We have found the Messiah; (which is, when interpreted, the Christ.)
૪૧તેણે પ્રથમ પોતાના ભાઈ સિમોનને મળીને કહ્યું કે, ‘મસીહ એટલે ખ્રિસ્ત અમને મળ્યા છે.’”
42 He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looking upon him said, Thou art Simon, the son of John; thou shalt be called Cephas; (which signifieth Peter, that is, Rock.)
૪૨તે તેને ઈસુ પાસે લઈ આવ્યો. ઈસુએ તેની સામે જોઈને કહ્યું કે, ‘તું યોનાનો દીકરો સિમોન છે. તું પિતર એટલે કેફા કહેવાશે જેનો અર્થ છે પથ્થર.’”
43 On the morrow he determined to go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip. And Jesus saith to him, Follow me.
૪૩બીજે દિવસે ઈસુને ગાલીલમાં જવાની ઇચ્છા થઈ અને તેમણે ફિલિપને મળીને કહ્યું કે, ‘મારી પાછળ આવ.’”
44 Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
૪૪હવે ફિલિપ તો બેથસાઈદાનો એટલે આન્દ્રિયા તથા પિતરના શહેરનો હતો.
45 Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith to him, We have found him of whom Moses in the Law, and the Prophets wrote, Jesus, the son of Joseph, who is of Nazareth.
૪૫ફિલિપે નથાનિયેલને મળીને કહ્યું કે, ‘નિયમશાસ્ત્રમાં જેમનાં સંબંધી મૂસાએ તથા પ્રબોધકોએ લખેલું છે તેઓ, એટલે નાસરેથના ઈસુ, યૂસફના દીકરા, અમને મળ્યા છે.’”
46 And Nathanael said to him, Can any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith to him, Come and see.
૪૬નથાનિયેલે તેને પૂછ્યું, ‘શું નાસરેથમાંથી કંઈ સારું નીકળી શકે?’ ફિલિપ તેને કહે છે કે, ‘આવ અને જો.’”
47 Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile.
૪૭ઈસુ નથાનિયેલને પોતાની પાસે આવતો જોઈને તેને વિષે કહે છે, ‘જુઓ, આ સાચો ઇઝરાયલી છે, એનામાં કંઈ કપટ નથી!’
48 Nathanael saith to him, Whence dost thou know me? Jesus answered and said to him, Before Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig-tree, I saw thee.
૪૮નથાનિયેલે ઈસુને કહ્યું કે, ‘તમે મને ક્યાંથી ઓળખો છો?’ ઈસુએ તેને જવાબ આપ્યો, ‘ફિલિપે તને બોલાવ્યો તે પહેલાં, તું અંજીરી નીચે હતો, ત્યારે મેં તને જોયો.’”
49 Nathanael answered him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God, thou art the king of Israel.
૪૯નથાનિયેલે તેમને જવાબ આપ્યો, ‘ગુરુજી, તમે ઈશ્વરના દીકરા છો; તમે ઇઝરાયલના રાજા છો.’”
50 Jesus answered and said to him, Because I said to thee, I saw thee under the fig-tree, dost thou believe? Thou shalt see greater things than these.
૫૦ઈસુએ તેને કહ્યું કે, ‘મેં તને અંજીરી નીચે જોયો એવું કહ્યું તેથી શું તું વિશ્વાસ કરે છે? આ કરતાં તું મોટી બાબતો જોશે.’”
51 And he saith to him, Truly, truly do I say to you, Ye will see heaven opened, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
૫૧ઈસુએ તેને કહ્યું, ‘હું તને ખરેખર કહું છું કે, તું સ્વર્ગ ઊઘડેલું અને ઈશ્વરના સ્વર્ગદૂતોને માણસના દીકરા ઉપર ચઢતાં અને ઊતરતા જોશે.’”
