John 9
1 And as he was passing along, he saw a man who had been blind from his birth.
Et comme [Jésus] passait, il vit un homme aveugle dès sa naissance.
2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
Et ses Disciples l'interrogèrent, disant: Maître, qui a péché, celui-ci, ou son père, ou sa mère, pour être ainsi né aveugle?
3 Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents; but that the works of God might be made manifest in him.
Jésus répondit: ni celui-ci n'a péché, ni son père, ni sa mère; mais [c'est] afin que les œuvres de Dieu soient manifestées en lui.
4 We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day; the night is coming, when no one can work.
Il me faut faire les œuvres de celui qui m'a envoyé, tandis qu'il est jour. La nuit vient en laquelle personne ne peut travailler.
5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
Pendant que je suis au monde, je suis la lumière du monde.
6 Having thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay with the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay,
Ayant dit ces paroles, il cracha [en] terre, et fit de la boue avec sa salive, et mit de cette boue sur les yeux de l'aveugle.
7 and said to him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam; (which is, when translated, Sent.) He went away therefore, and washed and came seeing.
Et lui dit: va, et te lave au réservoir de Siloé (qui veut dire envoyé); il y alla donc, et se lava, et il revint voyant.
8 The neighbors therefore, and they who before had seen him as a beggar, said, Is not this he that sits and begs?
Or les voisins, et ceux qui auparavant avaient vu qu'il était aveugle, disaient: n'est-ce pas celui qui était assis, et qui mendiait?
9 Some said, This is he. Others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am he.
Les uns disaient: c'est lui: et les autres disaient: il lui ressemble; mais lui, il disait: c'est moi-même.
10 They said therefore to him How then were thine eyes opened?
Ils lui dirent donc: comment ont été ouverts tes yeux?
11 He answered, The man who is called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes, and said to me, Go to Siloam, and wash. I went therefore and washed, and received sight.
Il répondit, et dit: cet homme qu'on appelle Jésus, a fait de la boue, et il l'a mise sur mes yeux, et m'a dit: va au réservoir de Siloé, et te lave; après donc que j'y suis allé, et que je me suis lavé, j'ai recouvré la vue.
12 And they said to him, Where is that man? He saith, I do not know.
Alors ils lui dirent: où est cet homme-là? il dit: je ne sais.
13 They bring to the Pharisees him who had once been blind.
Ils amenèrent aux Pharisiens celui qui auparavant avait été aveugle.
14 And the day on which Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes was the sabbath.
Or c'était en un jour de Sabbat, que Jésus avait fait de la boue, et qu'il avait ouvert les yeux de l'aveugle.
15 Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, He put clay on my eyes, and I washed them, and I see.
C'est pourquoi les Pharisiens l'interrogèrent encore, comment il avait reçu la vue; et il leur dit: il a mis de la boue sur mes yeux, et je me suis lavé, et je vois.
16 Therefore some of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs. And there was a division among them.
Sur quoi quelques-uns d'entre les Pharisiens dirent: cet homme n'est point un envoyé de Dieu; car il ne garde point le Sabbat; mais d'autres disaient: comment un méchant homme pourrait-il faire de tels prodiges? et il y avait de la division entre eux.
17 They say therefore to the blind man again, What dost thou say of him for having opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.
Ils dirent encore à l'aveugle: toi que dis-tu de lui, sur ce qu'il t'a ouvert les yeux? il répondit: c'est un Prophète.
18 The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.
Mais les Juifs ne crurent point que cet homme eût été aveugle, et qu'il eût recouvré la vue, jusqu'à ce qu'ils eurent appelé le père, et la mère de celui qui avait recouvré la vue.
19 And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? How then doth he now see?
Et ils les interrogèrent, disant: est-ce ici votre fils, que vous dites être né aveugle? comment donc voit-il maintenant?
20 His parents, answered and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;
Son père et sa mère leur répondirent, et dirent: nous savons que c'est ici notre fils, et qu'il est né aveugle.
21 but by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who opened his eyes, we know not; ask him, he is of age; he will speak for himself.
Mais comment il voit maintenant, ou qui lui a ouvert les yeux, nous ne le savons point; il a de l'âge, interrogez-le, il parlera de ce qui le regarde.
22 This his parents said, because they feared the Jews. For the Jews had already agreed, that if any one should acknowledge him as the Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
Son père et sa mère dirent ces choses, parce qu'ils craignaient les Juifs; car les Juifs avaient déjà arrêté, que si quelqu'un l'avouait être le Christ, il serait chassé de la Synagogue.
23 Therefore his parents said, He is of age; ask him.
Pour cette raison son père et sa mère dirent: il a de l'âge, interrogez-le lui-même.
24 They therefore called a second time the man that had been blind, and said to him, Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner.
Ils appelèrent donc pour la seconde fois l'homme qui avait été aveugle, et ils lui dirent: Donne gloire à Dieu; nous savons que cet homme est un méchant.
25 He therefore answered, Whether he is a sinner, I know not; one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
Il répondit, et dit: je ne sais point s'il est méchant; mais une chose sais-je bien, c'est que j'étais aveugle, et maintenant je vois.
26 They said to him, What did he do to thee? How did he open thine eyes?
Ils lui dirent donc encore: que t'a-t-il fait? comment a-t-il ouvert tes yeux?
27 He answered them, I have already told you, and ye did not hear; why would ye hear it again? Are ye also inclined to become his disciples?
Il leur répondit: je vous l'ai déjà dit, et vous ne l'avez point écouté, pourquoi le voulez-vous encore ouïr? voulez-vous aussi être ses disciples?
28 They reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are disciples of Moses.
Alors ils l'injurièrent, et lui dirent: toi sois son disciple; pour nous, nous sommes les disciples de Moïse.
29 We know that God hath spoken to Moses; but as for this man, we know not whence he is.
Nous savons que Dieu a parlé à Moïse; mais pour celui-ci, nous ne savons d'où il est.
30 The man answered and said to them, Why, herein is a marvelous thing, that ye know not whence he is, and yet he opened my eyes.
L'homme répondit, et leur dit: certes, c'est une chose étrange, que vous ne sachiez point d'où il est; et toutefois il a ouvert mes yeux.
31 We know that God heareth not sinners; but if any one is a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
Or nous savons que Dieu n'exauce point les méchants, mais si quelqu'un est le serviteur de Dieu, et fait sa volonté, [Dieu] l'exauce.
32 Since the world began, it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of a man born blind. (aiōn g165)
On n'a jamais ouï dire que personne ait ouvert les yeux d'un aveugle-né. (aiōn g165)
33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.
Si celui-ci n'était point un envoyé de Dieu, il ne pourrait rien faire [de semblable].
34 They answered and said to him, Thou wast wholly born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
Ils répondirent, et lui dirent: tu es entièrement né dans le péché, et tu nous enseignes! Et ils le chassèrent dehors.
35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and he found him, and said, Dost thou believe in the Son of man?
Jésus apprit qu'ils l'avaient chassé dehors; et l'ayant rencontré, il lui dit: crois-tu au Fils de Dieu?
36 He answered and said, And who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?
[Cet homme lui] répondit, et dit: qui est-il, Seigneur, afin que je croie en lui?
37 Jesus said to him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
Jésus lui dit: tu l'as vu, et c'est celui qui te parle.
38 And he said, I believe, Lord; and he prostrated himself before him.
Alors il dit: j'y crois, Seigneur; et il l'adora.
39 And Jesus said, For judgment came I into this world; that they who see not might see, and that they who see might become blind.
Et Jésus dit: je suis venu en ce monde pour exercer le jugement, afin que ceux qui ne voient point, voient; et que ceux qui voient, deviennent aveugles.
40 Some of the Pharisees who were with him heard this, and said to him, Are we also blind?
Ce que quelques-uns d'entre les Pharisiens qui étaient avec lui, ayant entendu, ils lui dirent: et nous, sommes-nous aussi aveugles?
41 Jesus said to them, If ye were blind, ye would not have sin; but now ye say, We see. Your sin remaineth.
Jésus leur répondit: si vous étiez aveugles, vous n'auriez point de péché; mais maintenant vous dites: nous voyons; et c'est à cause de cela que votre péché demeure.
