John 9
1 And as he was passing along, he saw a man who had been blind from his birth.
পথ চলতে চলতে যীশু এক জন্মান্ধ ব্যক্তিকে দেখতে পেলেন।
2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?
তাঁর শিষ্যেরা তাঁকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন, “রব্বি, কার পাপের কারণে এ অন্ধ হয়ে জন্মেছে, নিজের না এর বাবা-মার?”
3 Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents; but that the works of God might be made manifest in him.
যীশু বললেন, “এই ব্যক্তি বা এর বাবা-মা যে পাপ করেছে, তা নয়, কিন্তু এর জীবনে যেন ঈশ্বরের কাজ প্রকাশ পায়, তাই এরকম ঘটেছে।
4 We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day; the night is coming, when no one can work.
যতক্ষণ দিনের আলো আছে, যিনি আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন তাঁরই কাজ আমাদের করতে হবে। রাত্রি ঘনিয়ে আসছে, তখন কেউ আর কাজ করতে পারে না।
5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.
যতক্ষণ আমি জগতে আছি, আমিই এই জগতের জ্যোতি হয়ে আছি।”
6 Having thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay with the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay,
একথা বলে, তিনি মাটিতে থুতু ফেললেন এবং সেই লালা দিয়ে কাদা তৈরি করে সেই ব্যক্তির চোখে মাখিয়ে দিলেন।
7 and said to him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam; (which is, when translated, Sent.) He went away therefore, and washed and came seeing.
তারপর তিনি তাকে বললেন, “যাও, সিলোয়াম সরোবরে গিয়ে ধুয়ে ফেলো” (সিলোয়াম শব্দের অর্থ, প্রেরিত)। তখন সেই ব্যক্তি সেখানে গিয়ে (চোখ) ধুয়ে ফেলল এবং দৃষ্টিশক্তি পেয়ে বাড়ি ফিরে গেল।
8 The neighbors therefore, and they who before had seen him as a beggar, said, Is not this he that sits and begs?
তার প্রতিবেশীরা এবং যারা তাকে আগে ভিক্ষা করতে দেখেছিল, তারা বলল, “যে ব্যক্তি বসে ভিক্ষা করত, এ কি সেই একই ব্যক্তি নয়?”
9 Some said, This is he. Others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am he.
কেউ কেউ বলল যে, সেই ব্যক্তিই তো! অন্যেরা বলল, “না, সে তার মতো দেখতে।” সে বলল, “আমিই সেই ব্যক্তি।”
10 They said therefore to him How then were thine eyes opened?
তারা জানতে চাইল, “তাহলে তোমার চোখ কীভাবে খুলে গেল?”
11 He answered, The man who is called Jesus made clay and anointed my eyes, and said to me, Go to Siloam, and wash. I went therefore and washed, and received sight.
উত্তরে সে বলল, “লোকে যাকে যীশু বলে, তিনি কিছু কাদা তৈরি করে আমার দু-চোখে মাখিয়ে দিলেন এবং আমাকে বললেন, ‘যাও, সিলোয়াম সরোবরে গিয়ে ধুয়ে ফেলো।’ তাঁর নির্দেশমতো গিয়ে আমি তাই ধুয়ে ফেললাম, আর তারপর থেকে আমি দেখতে পাচ্ছি।”
12 And they said to him, Where is that man? He saith, I do not know.
তারা তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “সেই ব্যক্তি কোথায়?” সে বলল, “আমি জানি না।”
13 They bring to the Pharisees him who had once been blind.
যে অন্ধ ছিল, সেই ব্যক্তিকে তারা ফরিশীদের কাছে নিয়ে গেল।
14 And the day on which Jesus made the clay and opened his eyes was the sabbath.
যেদিন যীশু কাদা তৈরি করে ব্যক্তির চোখ খুলে দিয়েছিলেন, সেই দিনটি ছিল বিশ্রামদিন।
15 Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, He put clay on my eyes, and I washed them, and I see.
তাই ফরিশীরাও তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, কীভাবে সে দৃষ্টিশক্তি লাভ করেছে। সে উত্তর দিল, “তিনি আমার চোখদুটিতে কাদা মাখিয়ে দিলেন। আমি ধুয়ে ফেললাম, আর এখন আমি দেখতে পাচ্ছি।”
16 Therefore some of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs. And there was a division among them.
ফরিশীদের মধ্যে কেউ কেউ বলল, “এই লোকটি ঈশ্বরের কাছ থেকে আসেনি, কারণ সে বিশ্রামদিন পালন করে না।” অন্য ফরিশীরা বলল, “যে পাপী, সে কী করে এমন চিহ্নকাজ করতে পারে?” এইভাবে তাদের মধ্যে মতভেদ দেখা দিল।
17 They say therefore to the blind man again, What dost thou say of him for having opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.
অবশেষে তারা অন্ধ ব্যক্তির দিকে ফিরে তাকে আবার জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “যে তোমার চোখ খুলে দিয়েছে তার বিষয়ে তোমার কী বলার আছে?” সে উত্তর দিল, “তিনি একজন ভাববাদী।”
18 The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.
তার বাবা-মাকে ডেকে না আনা পর্যন্ত ইহুদিরা বিশ্বাসই করতে পারল না যে, সে অন্ধ ছিল এবং সে দৃষ্টিশক্তি লাভ করেছে।
19 And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? How then doth he now see?
তারা জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “এ কি তোমাদেরই ছেলে? এর বিষয়েই কি তোমরা বলো যে, এ অন্ধ হয়েই জন্মগ্রহণ করেছিল? তাহলে এখন কী করে ও দেখতে পাচ্ছে?”
20 His parents, answered and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;
তার বাবা-মা উত্তর দিল, “আমরা জানি ও আমাদের ছেলে, আর আমরা এও জানি যে, ও অন্ধ হয়েই জন্মগ্রহণ করেছিল।
21 but by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who opened his eyes, we know not; ask him, he is of age; he will speak for himself.
কিন্তু এখন ও কীভাবে দেখতে পাচ্ছে বা কে ওর চোখ খুলে দিয়েছে, আমরা তা জানি না। আপনারা ওকেই জিজ্ঞাসা করুন। ও সাবালক, তাই ওর কথা ও নিজেই বলবে।”
22 This his parents said, because they feared the Jews. For the Jews had already agreed, that if any one should acknowledge him as the Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.
তার বাবা-মা ইহুদিদের ভয়ে একথা বলল, কারণ ইহুদিরা ইতিমধ্যেই সিদ্ধান্ত নিয়েছিল, যীশুকে যে খ্রীষ্ট বলে স্বীকার করবে, সমাজভবন থেকে তাড়িয়ে দেওয়া হবে।
23 Therefore his parents said, He is of age; ask him.
সেইজন্য তার বাবা-মা বলল, “ও সাবালক, তাই ওকেই জিজ্ঞাসা করুন।”
24 They therefore called a second time the man that had been blind, and said to him, Give glory to God; we know that this man is a sinner.
যে আগে অন্ধ ছিল, সেই ব্যক্তিকে তারা দ্বিতীয়বার ডেকে এনে বলল, “ঈশ্বরকে গৌরব প্রদান করো। আমরা জানি, সেই ব্যক্তি একজন পাপী।”
25 He therefore answered, Whether he is a sinner, I know not; one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.
সে উত্তর দিল, “তিনি পাপী, কি পাপী নন, তা আমি জানি না। আমি একটি বিষয় জানি, আমি আগে অন্ধ ছিলাম, কিন্তু এখন দেখতে পাচ্ছি।”
26 They said to him, What did he do to thee? How did he open thine eyes?
তারা তখন তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “সে তোমার প্রতি কী করেছিল? সে কী করে তোমার চোখ খুলে দিল?”
27 He answered them, I have already told you, and ye did not hear; why would ye hear it again? Are ye also inclined to become his disciples?
সে উত্তর দিল, “আমি এর আগেই সেকথা আপনাদের বলেছি, কিন্তু আপনারা তা শোনেননি। আপনারা আবার তা শুনতে চাইছেন কেন? আপনারাও কি তাঁর শিষ্য হতে চান?”
28 They reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are disciples of Moses.
তারা তাকে গালাগাল দিয়ে অপমান করে বলল, “তুই ওই লোকটির শিষ্য! আমরা মোশির শিষ্য।
29 We know that God hath spoken to Moses; but as for this man, we know not whence he is.
আমরা জানি, ঈশ্বর মোশির সঙ্গে কথা বলেছিলেন, কিন্তু এই লোকটির আগমন কোথা থেকে হল তা আমরা জানি না।”
30 The man answered and said to them, Why, herein is a marvelous thing, that ye know not whence he is, and yet he opened my eyes.
সে উত্তর দিল, “সেটাই তো আশ্চর্যের কথা! আপনারা জানেন না তিনি কোথা থেকে এলেন, অথচ তিনিই আমার দু-চোখ খুলে দিলেন।
31 We know that God heareth not sinners; but if any one is a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.
আমরা জানি, ঈশ্বর পাপীদের কথা শোনেন না। যারা ঈশ্বরভক্ত ও তাঁর ইচ্ছা পালন করে, তিনি তাদেরই কথা শোনেন।
32 Since the world began, it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of a man born blind. (aiōn g165)
জন্মান্ধ ব্যক্তির চোখ কেউ খুলে দিয়েছে, একথা কেউ কখনও শোনেনি। (aiōn g165)
33 If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.
সেই ব্যক্তির আগমন ঈশ্বরের কাছ থেকে না হলে, কোনো কিছুই তিনি করতে পারতেন না।”
34 They answered and said to him, Thou wast wholly born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.
একথা শুনে তারা বলল, “তোর জন্ম পাপেই হয়েছে, তুই কী করে আমাদের শিক্ষা দেওয়ার সাহস পেলি?” আর তারা তাকে সমাজ থেকে বের করে দিল।
35 Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and he found him, and said, Dost thou believe in the Son of man?
যীশু শুনতে পেলেন তারা লোকটিকে বের করে দিয়েছে। তিনি তাকে যখন দেখতে পেলেন, তিনি বললেন, “তুমি কি মনুষ্যপুত্রে বিশ্বাস করো?”
36 He answered and said, And who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?
সেই ব্যক্তি জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “প্রভু তিনি কে? আমাকে বলুন, আমি যেন তাঁকে বিশ্বাস করতে পারি।”
37 Jesus said to him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.
যীশু বললেন, “তুমি তাঁকে দেখেছ। প্রকৃতপক্ষে, তিনিই তোমার সঙ্গে কথা বলছেন।”
38 And he said, I believe, Lord; and he prostrated himself before him.
“প্রভু, আমি বিশ্বাস করি,” একথা বলে সে তাঁকে প্রণাম করল।
39 And Jesus said, For judgment came I into this world; that they who see not might see, and that they who see might become blind.
যীশু বললেন, “বিচার করতেই আমি এ জগতে এসেছি, যেন দৃষ্টিহীনরা দেখতে পায় এবং যারা দেখতে পায়, তারা দৃষ্টিহীন হয়।”
40 Some of the Pharisees who were with him heard this, and said to him, Are we also blind?
তাঁর সঙ্গী কয়েকজন ফরিশী তাঁকে একথা বলতে শুনে জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “কী হল? আমরাও অন্ধ নাকি?”
41 Jesus said to them, If ye were blind, ye would not have sin; but now ye say, We see. Your sin remaineth.
যীশু বললেন, “তোমরা অন্ধ হলে তোমাদের পাপের জন্য অপরাধী হতে না; কিন্তু তোমরা নিজেদের দেখতে পাও বলে দাবি করছ, তাই তোমাদের অপরাধ রয়ে গেল।”
