< John 7 >
1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; for he would not walk in Judaea, because the Jews sought to kill him.
Lẹ́yìn nǹkan wọ̀nyí Jesu ń rìn ní Galili, nítorí tí kò fẹ́ rìn ní Judea, nítorí àwọn Júù ń wá a láti pa.
2 Now the feast of the Jews, the feast of tabernacles, was at hand.
Àjọ àwọn Júù tí í ṣe àjọ àgọ́ súnmọ́ etílé tan.
3 His brothers therefore said to him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see thy works which thou art doing.
Nítorí náà, àwọn arákùnrin rẹ̀ wí fún un pé, “Lọ kúrò níhìn-ín yìí, kí o sì lọ sí Judea, kí àwọn ọmọ-ẹ̀yìn rẹ pẹ̀lú lè fi iṣẹ́ rẹ hàn fún aráyé.
4 For no one doeth anything in secret, and yet himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world.
Nítorí pé kò sí ẹnikẹ́ni tí í ṣe ohunkóhun níkọ̀kọ̀, tí òun tìkára rẹ̀ sì ń fẹ́ kí a mọ òun ní gbangba. Bí ìwọ bá ń ṣe nǹkan wọ̀nyí, fi ara rẹ hàn fún aráyé.”
5 For even his brothers did not believe in him.
Nítorí pé àwọn arákùnrin rẹ̀ pàápàá kò tilẹ̀ gbà á gbọ́.
6 Jesus saith to them, My time is not yet come; but your time is always ready.
Nítorí náà ni Jesu wí fún wọn pé, “Àkókò gan an fún mi kò tí ì dé; fún ẹ̀yin, gbogbo àkókò ni ó dára fún yín.
7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that its works are evil.
Ayé kò lè kórìíra yín; ṣùgbọ́n èmi ni ó kórìíra, nítorí tí mo jẹ́rìí gbé é pé, iṣẹ́ rẹ̀ burú.
8 Go ye up to the feast; I go not up to this feast; for my time is not yet fully come.
Ẹ̀yin ẹ gòkè lọ sí àjọ yìí, èmi kì yóò tí ì gòkè lọ sí àjọ yìí; nítorí tí àkókò mi kò ì tí ì dé.”
9 Having said these things, he remained in Galilee.
Nígbà tí ó ti sọ nǹkan wọ̀nyí fún wọn tan, ó dúró ní Galili síbẹ̀.
10 But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not openly, but as it were in secret.
Ṣùgbọ́n nígbà tí àwọn arákùnrin rẹ̀ gòkè lọ tan, nígbà náà ni òun sì gòkè lọ sí àjọ náà pẹ̀lú, kì í ṣe ní gbangba, ṣùgbọ́n bí ẹni pé níkọ̀kọ̀.
11 The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, Where is that man?
Nígbà náà ni àwọn Júù sì ń wá a kiri nígbà àjọ wí pé, “Níbo ni ó wà?”
12 And there was much debating among the multitude concerning him. Some said, He is a good man; others said, Nay, but he deceiveth the multitude.
Ìkùnsínú púpọ̀ sì wà láàrín àwọn ìjọ ènìyàn nítorí rẹ̀, nítorí àwọn kan wí pé, “Ènìyàn rere ní í ṣe.” Àwọn mìíràn wí pé, “Bẹ́ẹ̀ kọ́, ṣùgbọ́n òun ń tan ènìyàn jẹ ni.”
13 No one, however, spoke openly of him, for fear of the Jews.
Ṣùgbọ́n kò sí ẹnìkan tí ó sọ̀rọ̀ rẹ̀ ní gbangba nítorí ìbẹ̀rù àwọn Júù.
14 But when it was now the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.
Nígbà tí àjọ dé àárín; Jesu gòkè lọ sí tẹmpili ó sì ń kọ́ni.
15 The Jews therefore marveled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
Ẹnu sì ya àwọn Júù, wọ́n wí pé, “Ọkùnrin yìí ti ṣe mọ ìwé, nígbà tí kò kọ́ ẹ̀kọ́?”
16 Jesus therefore answered them, and said, My teaching is not mine, but his that sent me.
Jesu dáhùn, ó sì wí pé, “Ẹ̀kọ́ mi kì í ṣe tèmi, bí kò ṣe ti ẹni tí ó rán mi.
17 If any one is desirous to do his will, he will know concerning the teaching, whether it is from God, or whether I speak from myself.
Bí ẹnikẹ́ni bá fẹ́ láti ṣe ìfẹ́ rẹ̀ yóò mọ̀ ní ti ẹ̀kọ́ náà, bí ìbá ṣe ti Ọlọ́run, tàbí bí èmi bá sọ ti ara mi.
18 He that speaketh from himself seeketh his own glory; but he that seeketh the glory of him that sent him, he is true, and in him is no unrighteousness.
Ẹni tí ń sọ ti ara rẹ̀ ń wá ògo ara rẹ̀, ṣùgbọ́n ẹni tí ń wá ògo ẹni tí ó rán an, òun ni olóòtítọ́, kò sì sí àìṣòdodo nínú rẹ̀.
19 Hath not Moses given you the Law? and none of you keepeth the Law! Why do ye seek to kill me?
Mose kò ha fi òfin fún yín, kò sí ẹnikẹ́ni nínú yín tí ó pa òfin náà mọ́? Èéṣe tí ẹ̀yin fi ń wá ọ̀nà láti pa mí?”
20 The multitude answered, Thou hast a demon! Who seeketh to kill thee?
Ìjọ ènìyàn dáhùn, wọ́n sì wí pé, “Ìwọ ní ẹ̀mí èṣù, ta ni ń wá ọ̀nà láti pa ọ́?”
21 Jesus answered and said to them, I have done one good work, and ye are all wondering.
Jesu dáhùn ó sì wí fún wọn pé, “Kìkì iṣẹ́ àmì kan ni mo ṣe, ẹnu sì ya gbogbo yín.
22 Moses hath given you circumcision, (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers; ) and ye on the sabbath circumcise a man.
Síbẹ̀, nítorí pé Mose fi ìkọlà fún yín (kò tilẹ̀ kúkú wá láti ọ̀dọ̀ Mose bí kò ṣe láti ọ̀dọ̀ àwọn baba ńlá yín); nítorí náà ẹ sì ń kọ ènìyàn ní ilà ní ọjọ́ ìsinmi.
23 If a man receive circumcision on the sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken, are ye angry at me, because I have restored soundness to the whole body of a man on the sabbath?
Bí ènìyàn bá ń gba ìkọlà ní ọjọ́ ìsinmi, kí a má ba à rú òfin Mose, ẹ ha ti ṣe ń bínú sí mi, nítorí mo mú ènìyàn kan láradá ní ọjọ́ ìsinmi?
24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.
Ẹ má ṣe ìdájọ́ nípa ti ara, ṣùgbọ́n ẹ máa ṣe ìdájọ́ òdodo.”
25 Then some of the men of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?
Nígbà náà ni àwọn kan nínú àwọn ará Jerusalẹmu wí pé, “Ẹni tí wọ́n ń wá ọ̀nà láti pa kọ́ yìí?
26 and see! he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing to him. Have the rulers discovered certainly that this man is the Christ?
Sì wò ó, ó ń sọ̀rọ̀ ní gbangba, wọn kò sì wí nǹkan kan sí i. Àwọn olórí ha mọ̀ nítòótọ́ pé, èyí ni Kristi náà?
27 Still, as to this man, we know whence he is; but when the Christ cometh, no one knoweth whence he is.
Ṣùgbọ́n àwa mọ ibi tí ọkùnrin yí gbé ti wá, ṣùgbọ́n nígbà tí Kristi bá dé, kò sí ẹni tí yóò mọ ibi tí ó gbé ti wá.”
28 Jesus therefore cried aloud, teaching in the temple and saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am; and I have not come of myself, but there is in truth one who sent me, whom ye know not.
Nígbà náà ni Jesu kígbe ní tẹmpili bí ó ti ń kọ́ni, wí pé, “Ẹ̀yin mọ̀ mí, ẹ sì mọ ibi tí mo ti wá, èmi kò sì wá fún ara mi, ṣùgbọ́n olóòtítọ́ ni ẹni tí ó rán mi, ẹni tí ẹ̀yin kò mọ̀.
29 I know him, because I am from him, and he hath sent me.
Ṣùgbọ́n èmi mọ̀ ọ́n, nítorí pé lọ́dọ̀ rẹ̀ ni mo ti wá, òun ni ó rán mi.”
30 Therefore they sought to take him; but no one laid hands on him, because his hour had not yet come.
Nítorí náà wọ́n ń wá ọ̀nà à ti mú un, ṣùgbọ́n kò sí ẹnìkan tí ó gbé ọwọ́ lé e, nítorí tí wákàtí rẹ̀ kò tí ì dé.
31 But of the multitude many believed in him, and said, When the Christ cometh, will he do more signs than these which this man doeth?
Ọ̀pọ̀ nínú ìjọ ènìyàn sì gbà á gbọ́, wọ́n sì wí pé, “Nígbà tí Kristi náà bá dé, yóò ha ṣe iṣẹ́ àmì jù wọ̀nyí, tí ọkùnrin yìí ti ṣe lọ?”
32 The Pharisees heard the multitude thus debating concerning him; and the chief priest and the Pharisees sent officers to seize him.
Àwọn Farisi gbọ́ pé, ìjọ ènìyàn ń sọ nǹkan wọ̀nyí lábẹ́lẹ̀ nípa rẹ̀; àwọn Farisi àti àwọn olórí àlùfáà sì rán àwọn oníṣẹ́ lọ láti mú un.
33 Jesus therefore said, Yet a little while I am with you, and then I go to him that sent me.
Nítorí náà Jesu wí fún wọn pé, “Níwọ́n ìgbà díẹ̀ ni èmi yóò wà pẹ̀lú yín, èmi yóò lọ sí ọ̀dọ̀ ẹni tí ó rán mi.
34 Ye will seek me and not find me; and where I am, ye cannot come.
Ẹ̀yin yóò wá mi, ẹ̀yin kì yóò sì rí mi, àti ibi tí èmi bá wà, ẹ̀yin kì yóò le wà.”
35 The Jews therefore said among themselves, Whither will this man go, that we shall not find him? Will he go to the dispersed among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?
Nítorí náà ni àwọn Júù ń bá ara wọn sọ pé, “Níbo ni ọkùnrin yìí yóò gbé lọ tí àwa kì yóò fi rí i? Yóò ha lọ sí àárín àwọn Helleni tí wọ́n fọ́n káàkiri, kí ó sì máa kọ́ àwọn Helleni bí.
36 What meaneth this which he said, Ye will seek me, and not find me; and where I am, ye cannot come?
Ọ̀rọ̀ kín ni èyí tí ó sọ yìí, ‘Ẹ̀yin yóò wá mi, ẹ kì yóò sì rí mi,’ àti ‘Ibi tí èmi bá wà ẹ̀yin kì yóò le wà’?”
37 On the last day, which is the great day, of the feast, Jesus stood and cried aloud, saying, If any one thirst, let him come to me, and drink.
Lọ́jọ́ tó kẹ́yìn, tí í ṣe ọjọ́ ńlá àjọ, Jesu dúró, ó sì kígbe wí pé, “Bí òǹgbẹ bá ń gbẹ ẹnikẹ́ni, kí ó tọ̀ mí wá, kí ó sì mu.
38 He that believeth in me, from within him, as the Scripture hath said, will flow rivers of living water.
Ẹnikẹ́ni tí ó bá gbà mí gbọ́ gẹ́gẹ́ bí Ìwé Mímọ́ ti wí, láti inú rẹ̀ ni odò omi ìyè yóò ti máa sàn jáde wá.”
39 But this he said of the Spirit, which those that believed in him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet, because Jesus was not yet glorified.
Ṣùgbọ́n ó sọ èyí ní ti ẹ̀mí, tí àwọn tí ó gbà á gbọ́ ń bọ̀ wá gbà, nítorí a kò tí ì fi Èmí Mímọ́ fún ni; nítorí tí a kò tí ì ṣe Jesu lógo.
40 Some of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, This is in truth the prophet. Others said, This is the Christ.
Nítorí náà, nígbà tí ọ̀pọ̀ nínú ìjọ ènìyàn gbọ́ ọ̀rọ̀ wọ̀nyí, wọ́n wí pé, “Lóòótọ́ èyí ni wòlíì náà.”
41 Others said, Doth the Christ then come from Galilee?
Àwọn mìíràn wí pé, “Èyí ni Kristi náà.” Ṣùgbọ́n àwọn kan wí pé kínla, “Kristi yóò ha ti Galili wá bí?
42 Hath not the Scripture said, that the Christ cometh from the seed of David, and from Bethlehem, the town where David was?
Ìwé mímọ́ kò ha wí pé, Kristi yóò ti inú irú-ọmọ Dafidi wá, àti Bẹtilẹhẹmu, ìlú tí Dafidi ti wá?”
43 So there was a division among the multitude because of him.
Bẹ́ẹ̀ ni ìyapa wà láàrín ìjọ ènìyàn nítorí rẹ̀.
44 And some of them wished to seize him; but no one laid hands on him.
Àwọn mìíràn nínú wọn sì fẹ́ láti mú un; ṣùgbọ́n kò sí ẹnìkan tí ó gbé ọwọ́ lé e.
45 The officers therefore came to the chief priests and Pharisees, who said to them, Why did ye not bring him?
Ní ìparí, àwọn ẹ̀ṣọ́ tẹmpili padà tọ àwọn olórí àlùfáà àti àwọn Farisi lọ, wọ́n sì wí fún wọn pé, “Èéṣe tí ẹ̀yin kò fi mú un wá?”
46 The officers answered, Never man spoke like this man.
Àwọn ẹ̀ṣọ́ dáhùn wí pé, “Kò sí ẹni tí ó tí ì sọ̀rọ̀ bí ọkùnrin yìí rí!”
47 The Pharisees answered them, Have ye also been deceived?
Nítorí náà àwọn Farisi dá wọn lóhùn pé, “A ha tan ẹ̀yin jẹ pẹ̀lú bí?
48 Hath any one of the rulers believed in him? or of the Pharisees?
Ǹjẹ́ nínú àwọn ìjòyè, tàbí àwọn Farisi ti gbà á gbọ́ bí?
49 but this multitude that know not the Law are accursed.
Ṣùgbọ́n ìjọ ènìyàn yìí, tí ko mọ òfin di ẹni ìfibú.”
50 Nicodemus saith to them, being one of them,
Nikodemu ẹni tí ó tọ Jesu wá lóru rí, tí ó sì jẹ́ ọ̀kan nínú wọn sì sọ fún wọn pé,
51 Doth our law judge a man, unless it first hear from him, and know what he doeth?
“Òfin wa ha ń ṣe ìdájọ́ ènìyàn kí ó tó gbọ́ ti ẹnu rẹ̀ àti kí ó tó mọ ohun tí ó ṣe bí?”
52 They answered and said to him, Art thou too from Galilee? Search and see that no prophet ariseth from Galilee.
Wọ́n dáhùn wọ́n sì wí fún un pé, “Ìwọ pẹ̀lú wá láti Galili bí? Wá kiri, kí o sì wò nítorí kò sí wòlíì kan tí ó ti Galili dìde.”
53 (Joh 7:53 - 8:12: This passage is omitted as ungenuine by Tischendorf and most critical editors of the Greek Testament. It is found in some manuscripts, but not in the most ancient. It is, however, very generally regarded as a genuine relic of the teaching of Christ, though not forming a part of the fourth Gospel. I give it in the text of Tregelles, omitting the words which he incloses in brackets. Tregelles, however, does not suppose it to be genuine.) [[And they went each to his house;
