< John 7 >
1 After these things Jesus walked in Galilee; for he would not walk in Judaea, because the Jews sought to kill him.
ⲁ̅ⲙⲛⲛⲥⲁ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲛⲉϥⲙⲟⲟϣⲉ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲥ ϩⲛ ⲧⲅⲁⲗⲓⲗⲁⲓⲁ ⲛⲉϥⲟⲩⲱϣ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲁⲛ ⲡⲉ ⲉⲙⲟⲟϣⲉ ϩⲛ ϯⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓⲁ ϫⲉ ⲛⲉⲩϣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲥⲱϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲉⲙⲟⲟⲩⲧϥ
2 Now the feast of the Jews, the feast of tabernacles, was at hand.
ⲃ̅ⲛⲉϥϩⲏⲛ ⲇⲉ ⲉϩⲟⲩⲛ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡϣⲁ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲧⲉⲥⲕⲏⲛⲟⲡⲏⲅⲓⲁ
3 His brothers therefore said to him, Depart hence, and go into Judaea, that thy disciples also may see thy works which thou art doing.
ⲅ̅ⲡⲉϫⲁⲩ ϭⲉ ⲛⲁϥ ⲛϭⲓ ⲛⲉϥⲥⲛⲏⲩ ϫⲉ ⲡⲱⲱⲛⲉ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲓⲙⲁ ⲛⲅ︦ⲃⲱⲕ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉϯⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓⲁ ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲉⲣⲉⲛⲉⲕⲙⲁⲑⲏⲧⲏⲥ ϩⲱⲟⲩ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲛⲉⲕϩⲃⲏⲩⲉ ⲉⲧⲕⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ
4 For no one doeth anything in secret, and yet himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou doest these things, manifest thyself to the world.
ⲇ̅ⲙⲉⲣⲉⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲣ ϩⲱⲃ ϩⲙ ⲡ︦ϩⲱⲡ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛϥϣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲧⲟϥ ⲛⲥⲁ ϣⲱⲡⲉ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲡⲁⲣⲣⲏⲥⲓⲁ ⲉϣϫⲉ ⲕⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲛⲛⲁⲓ ⲟⲩⲟⲛϩⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲙⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ
5 For even his brothers did not believe in him.
ⲉ̅ⲛⲉⲣⲉⲛⲉϥⲕⲉⲥⲛⲏⲩ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲡⲓⲥⲧⲉⲩⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ ⲁⲛ
6 Jesus saith to them, My time is not yet come; but your time is always ready.
ⲋ̅ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ϭⲉ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲥ ϫⲉ ⲡⲁⲟⲩⲟⲓϣ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲙⲡⲁⲧϥⲉⲓ ⲡⲉⲧⲛⲟⲩⲟⲓϣ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲱⲧⲛ ⲥⲃⲧⲱⲧ ⲛⲥⲏⲩ ⲛⲓⲙ
7 The world cannot hate you; but me it hateth, because I testify of it, that its works are evil.
ⲍ̅ⲙⲛ ϣϭⲟⲙ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲡⲕⲟⲥⲙⲟⲥ ⲙⲉⲥⲧⲉ ⲧⲏⲩⲧⲛ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲇⲉ ϥⲙⲟⲥⲧⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲓ ϫⲉ ϯⲣ ⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲉⲧⲃⲏⲏⲧϥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲉϥϩⲃⲏⲩⲉ ⲥⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ
8 Go ye up to the feast; I go not up to this feast; for my time is not yet fully come.
ⲏ̅ⲛⲧⲱⲧⲛ ⲃⲱⲕ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲡϣⲁ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲡⲁϯⲛⲟⲩ ⲉⲉⲓ ⲉⲡⲉⲉⲓϣⲁ ϫⲉ ⲙⲡⲁⲧⲉⲡⲁⲟⲩⲟⲓϣ ϫⲱⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ
9 Having said these things, he remained in Galilee.
ⲑ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉϥϫⲉ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲟϥ ⲁϥϭⲱ ϩⲛ ⲧⲅⲁⲗⲓⲗⲁⲓⲁ
10 But when his brothers had gone up to the feast, then he also went up, not openly, but as it were in secret.
ⲓ̅ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉⲛⲉϥⲥⲛⲏⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲃⲱⲕ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲡϣⲁ ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲛⲧⲟϥ ϩⲱⲱϥ ⲁϥⲃⲱⲕ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲟⲩⲱⲛϩ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩϩⲱⲡ
11 The Jews therefore sought him at the feast, and said, Where is that man?
ⲓ̅ⲁ̅ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ϭⲉ ⲛⲉⲩϣⲓⲛⲉ ⲛⲥⲱϥ ⲡⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲣⲡⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲉϥⲧⲱⲛ ⲡⲏ
12 And there was much debating among the multitude concerning him. Some said, He is a good man; others said, Nay, but he deceiveth the multitude.
ⲓ̅ⲃ̅ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲉⲣⲉⲟⲩⲕⲣⲙⲣⲙ ⲉⲛⲁϣⲱϥ ϣⲟⲟⲡ ⲉⲧⲃⲏⲏⲧϥ ϩⲛ ⲙⲙⲏⲏϣⲉ ϩⲟⲓⲛⲉ ⲙⲉⲛ ⲛⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲁⲅⲁⲑⲟⲥ ⲡⲉ ϩⲉⲛⲕⲟⲟⲩⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲛ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲉϥⲡⲗⲁⲛⲁ ⲙⲡⲙⲏⲏϣⲉ
13 No one, however, spoke openly of him, for fear of the Jews.
ⲓ̅ⲅ̅ⲛⲉ ⲙⲙⲛⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲙⲉⲛⲧⲟⲓ ϣⲁϫⲉ ⲉⲧⲃⲏⲏⲧϥ ϩⲛ ⲟⲩⲡⲁⲣⲣⲏⲥⲓⲁ ⲉⲧⲃⲉ ⲑⲟⲧⲉ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ
14 But when it was now the midst of the feast, Jesus went up into the temple and taught.
ⲓ̅ⲇ̅ϩⲛ ⲧⲙⲏⲧⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲡϣⲁ ⲁⲓⲥ ⲃⲱⲕ ⲉϩⲣⲁⲓ ⲉⲡⲉⲣⲡⲉ ⲁϥϯ ⲥⲃⲱ
15 The Jews therefore marveled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?
ⲓ̅ⲉ̅ⲛⲉⲩⲣ ϣⲡⲏⲣⲉ ϭⲉ ⲛϭⲓ ⲛⲓⲟⲩⲇⲁⲓ ⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲛⲁϣ ⲛϩⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲛⲥϩⲁⲓ ⲉⲙⲡⲟⲩⲧⲥⲁⲃⲟϥ
16 Jesus therefore answered them, and said, My teaching is not mine, but his that sent me.
ⲓ̅ⲋ̅ⲁϥⲟⲩⲱϣⲃ ⲛⲁⲩ ⲛϭⲓ ⲓⲥ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲧⲁⲥⲃⲱ ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲛⲧⲱⲓ ⲁⲛ ⲧⲉ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲧⲁ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁϥⲧⲁⲟⲩⲟⲓ ⲧⲉ
17 If any one is desirous to do his will, he will know concerning the teaching, whether it is from God, or whether I speak from myself.

18 He that speaketh from himself seeketh his own glory; but he that seeketh the glory of him that sent him, he is true, and in him is no unrighteousness.

19 Hath not Moses given you the Law? and none of you keepeth the Law! Why do ye seek to kill me?

20 The multitude answered, Thou hast a demon! Who seeketh to kill thee?

21 Jesus answered and said to them, I have done one good work, and ye are all wondering.

22 Moses hath given you circumcision, (not that it is from Moses, but from the fathers; ) and ye on the sabbath circumcise a man.

23 If a man receive circumcision on the sabbath, that the law of Moses may not be broken, are ye angry at me, because I have restored soundness to the whole body of a man on the sabbath?
ⲕ̅ⲅ̅ⲉϣϫⲉ ϣⲁⲣⲉⲣⲱⲙⲉ ϫⲓ ⲥⲃⲃⲉ ϩⲙ ⲡⲥⲁⲃⲃⲁⲧⲟⲛ ϫⲉ ⲛⲛⲉϥⲃⲱⲗ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲛϭⲓ ⲡⲛⲟⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲙⲱⲩⲥⲏⲥ ⲁϩⲣⲱⲧⲛ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲛⲟϭⲥ ⲉⲣⲟⲉⲓ ϫⲉ ⲁⲉⲓⲧⲟⲩϫⲉ ⲟⲩⲣⲱⲙⲉ ⲧⲏⲣϥ ϩⲙ ⲡⲥⲁⲃⲃⲁⲧⲟⲛ
24 Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment.

25 Then some of the men of Jerusalem said, Is not this he whom they seek to kill?

26 and see! he speaketh boldly, and they say nothing to him. Have the rulers discovered certainly that this man is the Christ?

27 Still, as to this man, we know whence he is; but when the Christ cometh, no one knoweth whence he is.

28 Jesus therefore cried aloud, teaching in the temple and saying, Ye both know me, and ye know whence I am; and I have not come of myself, but there is in truth one who sent me, whom ye know not.
ⲕ̅ⲏ̅ⲓⲥ ϭⲉ ⲁϥϫⲓ ϣⲕⲁⲕ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲙ ⲡⲉⲣⲡⲉ ⲉϥϯ ⲥⲃⲱ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲙⲙⲟⲓ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ϫⲉ ⲁⲛⲅ ⲟⲩⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲧⲱⲛ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲁⲓⲉⲓ ⲁⲛ ϩⲁⲣⲟⲓ ⲙⲙⲁⲩⲁⲁⲧ ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲟⲩⲙⲉ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲉⲛⲧⲁϥⲧⲁⲟⲩⲟⲉⲓ ⲡⲁⲓ ⲛⲧⲱⲧⲛ ⲉⲛⲧⲉⲧⲛⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲁⲛ

31 But of the multitude many believed in him, and said, When the Christ cometh, will he do more signs than these which this man doeth?

32 The Pharisees heard the multitude thus debating concerning him; and the chief priest and the Pharisees sent officers to seize him.

35 The Jews therefore said among themselves, Whither will this man go, that we shall not find him? Will he go to the dispersed among the Greeks, and teach the Greeks?

37 On the last day, which is the great day, of the feast, Jesus stood and cried aloud, saying, If any one thirst, let him come to me, and drink.

38 He that believeth in me, from within him, as the Scripture hath said, will flow rivers of living water.

39 But this he said of the Spirit, which those that believed in him were to receive; for the Spirit was not yet, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

40 Some of the multitude therefore, when they heard these words, said, This is in truth the prophet. Others said, This is the Christ.

It is, however, very generally regarded as a genuine relic of the teaching of Christ, though not forming a part of the fourth Gospel. I give it in the text of Tregelles, omitting the words which he incloses in brackets. Tregelles, however, does not suppose it to be genuine.) [[And they went each to his house;
