John 3
1 And there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
Il y avait, parmi les pharisiens, un homme qui s'appelait Nicodème: c'était un sénateur juif.
2 This man came to him by night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that thou hast come as a teacher from God; for no one can do these signs which thou doest, unless God be with him.
Il vint de nuit trouver Jésus, et lui dit: «Maître, nous savons que tu es un docteur venu de Dieu, car nul ne peut faire les miracles que tu fais, si Dieu n'est avec lui...»
3 Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly do I say to thee, Unless a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Jésus répondit et lui dit: «En vérité, en vérité, je te le dis, si l’on ne naît à nouveau, on ne peut voir le royaume de Dieu.»
4 Nicodemus saith to him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter his mother's womb a second time, and be born?
Nicodème lui dit: «Comment un homme qui est vieux, peut-il naître? peut-il rentrer dans le sein de sa mère et naître?»
5 Jesus answered, Truly, truly do I say to thee, Unless a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.
Jésus répondit: «En vérité, en vérité, je te dis que si l’on ne naît, d'eau et d'esprit, on ne peut entrer dans le royaume de Dieu:
6 That which is born of the flesh, is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit, is spirit.
ce qui est né de la chair est chair, et ce qui est né de l'esprit est esprit...
7 Marvel not that I said to thee, Ye must be born again.
Ne t'étonne point de ce que je t'ai dit qu'il vous faut naître à nouveau.
8 The wind bloweth where it will; and thou hearest the sound thereof, but knowest not whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
Le vent souffle où il veut, et tu en entends le bruit; mais tu ne sais d'où il vient ni où il va; ainsi en est-il de tout homme qui est né de l'esprit.»
9 Nicodemus answered and said to him, How can these things be?
Nicodème lui dit: «Comment cela peut-il se faire?»
10 Jesus answered and said to him, Art thou the teacher of Israel, and understandest not these things?
Jésus lui répondit: «Tu es le docteur d'Israël, et tu ne sais pas ces choses!
11 Truly, truly do I say to thee, We speak that which we know, and testify that which we have seen; and ye receive not our testimony.
En vérité, en vérité, je te dis que nous disons ce que nous savons, et que nous rendons témoignage de ce que nous avons vu; mais vous ne recevez pas notre témoignage.
12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how will ye believe if I tell you heavenly things?
Si, quand je vous parle des choses terrestres, vous ne croyez pas, comment croirez-vous quand je vous parlerai des choses célestes?
13 And no one hath ascended into heaven, but he who came down from heaven, even the Son of man.
Nul n'est monté au ciel, que celui qui est descendu du ciel, le Fils de l'homme qui était dans le ciel;
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up
et, comme Moïse éleva le serpent dans le désert, il faut de même que le Fils de l’homme soit élevé,
afin que quiconque croit en lui ait la vie éternelle.» (aiōnios g166)
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave the only begotten Son, that every one who believeth in him may not perish, but may have everlasting life. (aiōnios g166)
En effet, Dieu a tant aimé le monde, qu'il a donné son Fils unique, afin que quiconque croit en lui ne périsse point, mais qu'il ait la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)
17 For God sent not the Son into the world to condemn the world, but that through him the world might be saved.
Dieu n'a pas envoyé son Fils dans le monde, pour juger le monde, mais afin que le monde soit sauvé par lui.
18 He that believeth in him is not condemned; he that believeth not hath already been condemned, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Celui qui croit en lui n'est point jugé, mais celui qui ne croit pas en lui est déjà jugé, parce qu'il n'a pas cru au nom du Fils unique de Dieu;
19 And this is the condemnation, that the light hath come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil.
et voici ce jugement: la lumière est venue dans le monde, mais les hommes ont mieux aimé les ténèbres que la lumière, parce que leurs oeuvres étaient mauvaises.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
Car tout homme qui fait le mal, hait la lumière, et il ne s'approche point de la lumière, de peur que la méchanceté de ses oeuvres ne soit mise en évidence;
21 But he that doeth the truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
mais celui qui pratique la vérité, s'approche de la lumière, afin que ses oeuvres soient manifestées, parce qu'elles sont faites en Dieu.
22 After these things Jesus and his disciples came into the land of Judaea; and there he remained with them, and baptized.
Après cela, Jésus se rendit dans les campagnes de la Judée avec ses disciples; il y séjourna avec eux, et il baptisait.
23 And John also was baptizing in AEnon, near Salim, because there was much water there; and they came, and were baptized.
Jean baptisait aussi à Énon, près de Salim, parce qu'il y avait là beaucoup d'eau; et l’on venait s'y faire baptiser,
24 For John was not yet thrown into prison.
car Jean n'avait pas encore été mis en prison.
25 Then there arose a question on the part of John's disciples with a Jew about purifying.
Il s'éleva donc une dispute entre les disciples de Jean et un Juif au sujet du baptême.
26 And they came to John, and said to him, Rabbi, he who was with thee beyond the Jordan, to whom thou hast borne witness, behold, he baptizeth, and all men are going to him.
Les disciples vinrent vers Jean, et lui dirent: «Maître, celui qui était avec toi au delà du Jourdain, et à qui tu as rendu témoignage, le voilà qui baptise; et tout le monde va vers lui.»
27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, unless it be given him from heaven.
Jean répondit et dit: «Un homme ne peut rien recevoir, s'il ne lui a été donné du ciel.
28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I was sent before that man.
Vous m'êtes vous-mêmes témoins, que j'ai dit: «Je ne suis pas le Messie, mais j'ai été envoyé devant lui.»
29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. This my joy then hath become full.
Celui qui a l'épouse est l'époux; mais l'ami de l'époux, qui se tient là et qui l'écoute, est ravi de joie d'entendre la voix de l'époux: cette joie donc est la mienne, et elle est parfaite.
30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
Il faut qu'il croisse et que je diminue.»
31 He that cometh from above is above all. He that is from the earth is earthly, and speaketh earthly things; he that cometh from heaven
Celui qui vient d'en haut est au-dessus de tous. Celui qui vient de la terre est de la terre, et il parle comme étant de la terre; celui qui vient du ciel est au-dessus de tous,
32 testifieth what he hath seen and heard; and no one receiveth his testimony.
et il rend témoignage de ce qu'il a vu et entendu; mais nul ne reçoit son témoignage.
33 He that hath received his testimony hath set his seal that God is true.
Celui qui reçoit son témoignage certifie que Dieu est vrai;
34 For he whom God sent speaketh the words of God; for he giveth not the Spirit by measure.
car celui que Dieu a envoyé profère les paroles de Dieu, parce que Dieu ne lui donne pas son Esprit par mesure.
35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
Le Père aime le Fils et a remis toutes choses entre ses mains.
36 He that believeth in the Son hath everlasting life; and he that disobeyeth the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him. (aiōnios g166)
Celui qui croit au Fils a la vie éternelle; celui qui ne croit point au Fils ne verra point la vie, mais la colère de Dieu demeure sur lui. (aiōnios g166)
