John 3
1 And there was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews.
Il y avait là un homme d'entre les pharisiens, nommé Nicodème, chef des Juifs.
2 This man came to him by night, and said to him, Rabbi, we know that thou hast come as a teacher from God; for no one can do these signs which thou doest, unless God be with him.
Il vint de nuit auprès de Jésus et lui dit: « Rabbi, nous savons que tu es un docteur venu de Dieu; car personne ne peut faire ces signes que tu fais, si Dieu n'est pas avec lui. »
3 Jesus answered and said to him, Truly, truly do I say to thee, Unless a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.
Jésus lui répondit: « En vérité, je te le dis, si quelqu'un ne naît pas de nouveau, il ne peut pas voir le Royaume de Dieu. »
4 Nicodemus saith to him, How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter his mother's womb a second time, and be born?
Nicodème lui dit: « Comment un homme peut-il naître quand il est vieux? Peut-il entrer une seconde fois dans le sein de sa mère et naître? »
5 Jesus answered, Truly, truly do I say to thee, Unless a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of heaven.
Jésus répondit: Je te le dis en vérité, si quelqu'un ne naît d'eau et d'Esprit, il ne peut entrer dans le royaume de Dieu.
6 That which is born of the flesh, is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit, is spirit.
Ce qui est né de la chair est chair. Celui qui est né de l'Esprit est esprit.
7 Marvel not that I said to thee, Ye must be born again.
Ne t' étonne pas que je t'aie dit: Il faut que tu naisses de nouveau.
8 The wind bloweth where it will; and thou hearest the sound thereof, but knowest not whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.
Le vent souffle où il veut, et vous entendez son bruit; mais vous ne savez d'où il vient ni où il va. Il en est ainsi de quiconque est né de l'Esprit. »
9 Nicodemus answered and said to him, How can these things be?
Nicodème lui répondit: « Comment ces choses peuvent-elles être? »
10 Jesus answered and said to him, Art thou the teacher of Israel, and understandest not these things?
Jésus lui répondit: « Es-tu le docteur d'Israël, et ne comprends-tu pas ces choses?
11 Truly, truly do I say to thee, We speak that which we know, and testify that which we have seen; and ye receive not our testimony.
Je vous le dis en vérité, nous disons ce que nous savons et nous rendons témoignage de ce que nous avons vu, et vous ne recevez pas notre témoignage.
12 If I have told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how will ye believe if I tell you heavenly things?
Si je vous ai dit des choses terrestres et que vous ne croyiez pas, comment croirez-vous si je vous dis des choses célestes?
13 And no one hath ascended into heaven, but he who came down from heaven, even the Son of man.
Personne n'est monté au ciel, sinon celui qui est descendu du ciel, le Fils de l'homme, qui est dans le ciel.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of man be lifted up
Comme Moïse éleva le serpent dans le désert, il faut de même que le Fils de l'homme soit élevé,
afin que quiconque croit en lui ne périsse pas, mais ait la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave the only begotten Son, that every one who believeth in him may not perish, but may have everlasting life. (aiōnios g166)
Car Dieu a tant aimé le monde qu'il a donné son Fils unique, afin que quiconque croit en lui ne périsse pas, mais ait la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)
17 For God sent not the Son into the world to condemn the world, but that through him the world might be saved.
Car Dieu n'a pas envoyé son Fils dans le monde pour juger le monde, mais pour que le monde soit sauvé par lui.
18 He that believeth in him is not condemned; he that believeth not hath already been condemned, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Celui qui croit en lui n'est pas jugé. Celui qui ne croit pas est déjà jugé, parce qu'il n'a pas cru au nom du Fils unique de Dieu.
19 And this is the condemnation, that the light hath come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil.
Tel est le jugement: la lumière est venue dans le monde, et les hommes ont préféré les ténèbres à la lumière, parce que leurs œuvres étaient mauvaises.
20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, and cometh not to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
Car quiconque fait le mal hait la lumière et ne vient pas à la lumière, de peur que ses œuvres ne soient dévoilées.
21 But he that doeth the truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.
Mais celui qui pratique la vérité vient à la lumière, afin que ses œuvres soient révélées, et qu'elles soient faites en Dieu. »
22 After these things Jesus and his disciples came into the land of Judaea; and there he remained with them, and baptized.
Après ces choses, Jésus vint avec ses disciples dans le pays de Judée. Il y resta avec eux, et il baptisa.
23 And John also was baptizing in AEnon, near Salim, because there was much water there; and they came, and were baptized.
Jean aussi baptisait à Enon, près de Salim, parce qu'il y avait là beaucoup d'eau. Ils vinrent et furent baptisés;
24 For John was not yet thrown into prison.
car Jean n'avait pas encore été jeté en prison.
25 Then there arose a question on the part of John's disciples with a Jew about purifying.
Les disciples de Jean eurent alors une dispute avec quelques Juifs au sujet de la purification.
26 And they came to John, and said to him, Rabbi, he who was with thee beyond the Jordan, to whom thou hast borne witness, behold, he baptizeth, and all men are going to him.
Ils s'approchèrent de Jean et lui dirent: « Rabbi, celui qui était avec toi au-delà du Jourdain, et à qui tu as rendu témoignage, voici qu'il baptise, et tout le monde vient à lui. »
27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, unless it be given him from heaven.
Jean répondit: Un homme ne peut rien recevoir si cela ne lui a pas été donné du ciel.
28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I was sent before that man.
Vous rendez vous-mêmes témoignage que j'ai dit: « Je ne suis pas le Christ », mais: « J'ai été envoyé avant lui ».
29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom; but the friend of the bridegroom, who standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice. This my joy then hath become full.
Celui qui a l'épouse est l'époux; mais l'ami de l'époux, qui se tient debout et qui l'écoute, se réjouit beaucoup à cause de la voix de l'époux. C'est pourquoi ma joie est complète.
30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
Il faut qu'il augmente, mais il faut que je diminue.
31 He that cometh from above is above all. He that is from the earth is earthly, and speaketh earthly things; he that cometh from heaven
« Celui qui vient d'en haut est au-dessus de tout. Celui qui vient de la terre appartient à la terre et parle de la terre. Celui qui vient du ciel est au-dessus de tout.
32 testifieth what he hath seen and heard; and no one receiveth his testimony.
Ce qu'il a vu et entendu, il en rend témoignage, et personne ne reçoit son témoignage.
33 He that hath received his testimony hath set his seal that God is true.
Celui qui a reçu son témoignage a marqué de son sceau que Dieu est vrai.
34 For he whom God sent speaketh the words of God; for he giveth not the Spirit by measure.
En effet, celui que Dieu a envoyé prononce les paroles de Dieu, car Dieu donne l'Esprit sans mesure.
35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
Le Père aime le Fils, et il a remis toutes choses entre ses mains.
36 He that believeth in the Son hath everlasting life; and he that disobeyeth the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abideth on him. (aiōnios g166)
Celui qui croit au Fils a la vie éternelle, mais celui qui désobéit au Fils ne verra pas la vie, mais la colère de Dieu demeure sur lui. » (aiōnios g166)
