John 2
1 And on the third day there was a marriage-feast in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there.
Le troisième jour, il y avait un repas de noce à Cana en Galilée. La mère de Jésus s'y trouvait,
2 And both Jesus and his disciples were invited to the feast.
et Jésus également avait été invité avec ses disciples.
3 And they had no wine, because the wine of the feast had failed. Then the mother of Jesus saith to him, There is no wine.
Le vin étant venu à manquer, la mère de Jésus dit à celui-ci: «Ils n'ont plus de vin.» —
4 Jesus saith to her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? My hour is not yet come.
«Femme, lui répondit Jésus, qu'y a-t-il entre toi et moi? mon heure n'est pas encore venue.»
5 His mother saith to the servants, Whatever he saith to you, do it.
Sa mère dit à ceux qui servaient: «Faites ce qu'il vous dira.»
6 Now there were set there six water-pots of stone, in conformity with the Jews' custom of purifying, containing two or three firkins apiece.
Or, il y avait là six urnes de pierre disposées pour les ablutions qui sont en usage parmi les Juifs. Chacune d'elles contenait deux ou trois mesures.
7 Jesus saith to them, Fill the water-pots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.
«Remplissez d'eau les urnes», dit Jésus aux serviteurs. Ils les remplirent jusqu'au bord.
8 And he saith to them, Draw out now, and bear it to the master of the feast. And they bore it.
«Puisez-y maintenant, leur dit Jésus, et portez-en à l'ordonnateur du repas.» Ils lui en portèrent.
9 But when the master of the feast tasted the water that had been made wine, not knowing whence it was, but the servants who drew the water knew, he called the bridegroom
Quand celui-ci eut goûté l'eau devenue vin, — n'en sachant point la provenance, comme la savaient les serviteurs qui avaient puisé l'eau, — il appelle l'époux
10 and said to him, Every man setteth on the good wine first, and when men have drunk freely, that which is worse. Thou hast kept the good wine until now.
et lui dit: «Tout le monde offre d'abord le bon vin à ses convives et, quand ils sont en ébriété, il leur en donne de qualité inférieure; quant à toi, tu as réservé le bon vin jusqu'à maintenant.»
11 This beginning of the signs Jesus made in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed in him.
Tel fut, à Cana en Galilée, le commencement des miracles faits par Jésus. Ainsi il manifesta sa gloire et ses disciples crurent en lui.
12 After this he went down to Capernaum, he and his mother, and his brothers, and his disciples; and they abode there not many days.
Après cela, il descendit à Capharnaüm, avec sa mère, ses frères et ses disciples. Il n'y demeura que peu de jours.
13 And the passover of the Jews was near; and Jesus went up to Jerusalem.
La Pâque des Juifs était proche et il monta à Jérusalem.
14 And he found in the temple those who sold oxen, and sheep, and doves, and the money-changers sitting.
Dans le Temple, il trouva les marchands de boeufs, de brebis, de colombes, les changeurs installés.
15 And having made a scourge of cords, he drove them all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen; and poured out the money of the exchangers, and overthrew the tables;
Se faisant alors un fouet avec des cordes, il les chassa tous du Temple ainsi que les brebis et les boeufs; il répandit sur le sol la monnaie des changeurs et renversa leurs tables
16 and said to those who sold the doves, Take these things hence; make not my Father's house a house of merchandise.
et, quant aux marchands de colombes, il leur dit: «Emportez tout cela et ne faites pas de la maison de mon Père une maison de trafic.»
17 His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for thy house will consume me.”
Ses disciples se souvinrent qu'il est écrit: «Le zèle de ta maison me dévore.»
18 The Jews therefore answered and said to him, What sign dost thou show us, seeing thou doest these things?
Cependant les Juifs s'adressèrent à lui; ils lui dirent: «Quel miracle nous montres-tu pour agir de la sorte?»
19 Jesus answered and said to them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.
Jésus leur répondit par ces paroles: «Renversez ce Temple et en trois jours je le relèverai!» —
20 Then said the Jews, Forty-six years was this temple in building; and wilt thou raise it up in three days?
«Il a fallu, reprirent les Juifs, quarante-six ans pour bâtir ce Temple et toi tu le relèverais en trois jours!»
21 But he spoke of the temple of his body.
Mais lui, il parlait du Temple de son corps;
22 When therefore he had risen from the dead, his disciples remembered that he had said this; and they believed the Scripture, and the word which Jesus had spoken.
et lorsqu'il fut ressuscité d'entre les morts, ses disciples se souvinrent de ce langage, et ils crurent alors à l'Écriture et à la parole dite par Jésus.
23 And when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, at the feast, many believed in his name, when they saw his signs which he wrought.
Pendant qu'il était à Jérusalem, à la fête de Pâque, un grand nombre, à la vue des miracles qu'il faisait, crurent en son nom.
24 But Jesus did not trust himself to them, because he knew all men;
Mais lui, Jésus, ne se fiait pas à eux, parce qu'il les connaissait tous. Il n'avait pas besoin en effet que tel ou tel témoignage vînt le renseigner sur qui que ce soit;
25 and had no need that any one should testify concerning man; for he himself knew what was in man.
il savait par-lui-même ce qu'il y avait en chacun.
