John 12
1 Jesus, therefore, six days before the passover, came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus raised from the dead.
Six jours avant la Pâque, Jésus se rendit à Béthanie, où était Lazare, qui était mort, et qu'il avait ressuscité des morts.
2 They made therefore a supper for him there, and Martha served; but Lazarus was one of those who reclined at the table with him.
Là, on lui fit un souper. Marthe servait, mais Lazare était du nombre de ceux qui étaient à table avec lui.
3 Then Mary, taking a pound of ointment of pure spikenard, very costly, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.
Marie prit une livre d'onguent de nard pur, très précieux, et elle oignit les pieds de Jésus; elle lui essuya les pieds avec ses cheveux. La maison fut remplie de l'odeur du parfum.
4 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, he who was about to betray him, saith,
Alors Judas Iscariote, fils de Simon, l'un de ses disciples, qui allait le trahir, dit:
5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred denaries, and given to the poor?
« Pourquoi ce parfum n'a-t-il pas été vendu trois cents deniers et donné aux pauvres? »
6 And this he said, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and kept the purse, and bore what was put therein.
Il disait cela, non qu'il se souciât des pauvres, mais parce qu'il était voleur et qu'ayant la tirelire, il avait l'habitude de voler ce qu'on y mettait.
7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone, that she may keep it until the day of my burial.
Mais Jésus dit: « Laisse-la tranquille. Elle a gardé cela pour le jour de ma sépulture.
8 For the poor ye have always with you, but me ye have not always.
Car vous avez toujours les pauvres avec vous, mais vous ne m'avez pas toujours, moi. »
9 The great multitude of the Jews therefore knew that he was there; and they came, not only on account of Jesus, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he raised from the dead.
Une grande foule de Juifs apprit donc qu'il était là, et ils vinrent, non seulement à cause de Jésus, mais aussi pour voir Lazare, qu'il avait ressuscité des morts.
10 But the priests consulted together that they might put Lazarus also to death;
Mais les principaux sacrificateurs complotèrent de faire mourir aussi Lazare,
11 because on his account many of the Jews were going away, and believing in Jesus.
parce que, à cause de lui, beaucoup de Juifs s'en allèrent et crurent en Jésus.
12 On the next day, a great multitude that had come to the feast, hearing that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
Le lendemain, une grande foule était venue à la fête. Lorsqu'ils apprirent que Jésus venait à Jérusalem,
13 took branches of palm-trees, and went forth to meet him, crying aloud, Hosanna! blessed is he who cometh in the name of the Lord, even the king of Israel!
ils prirent les branches des palmiers, sortirent à sa rencontre et s'écrièrent: « Hosanna! Béni soit celui qui vient au nom du Seigneur, le roi d'Israël! »
14 And Jesus, having found a young ass, sat thereon, as it is written,
Jésus, ayant trouvé un jeune âne, s'assit dessus. Selon qu'il est écrit:
15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion! lo! thy king cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.”
« Ne crains pas, fille de Sion. Voici que ton Roi vient, assis sur un ânon. »
16 These things his disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus had been glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things to him.
Ses disciples ne comprirent pas d'abord ces choses; mais, lorsque Jésus fut glorifié, ils se souvinrent que ces choses étaient écrites de lui, et qu'ils les avaient faites pour lui.
17 The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness.
La foule qui était avec lui, lorsqu'il appela Lazare hors du sépulcre et le ressuscita des morts, rendait donc témoignage à ce sujet.
18 For this cause also the multitude met him, because they had heard that he had wrought, this sign.
C'est pourquoi aussi la foule alla au-devant de lui, parce qu'elle avait appris qu'il avait fait ce miracle.
19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Ye see that ye effect nothing; o! the world hath gone after him.
Les pharisiens se dirent alors entre eux: « Voyez comme vous ne faites rien. Voici que le monde est allé après lui. »
20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast.
Or, il y avait quelques Grecs parmi ceux qui montaient se prosterner à la fête.
21 These came therefore to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, we wish to see Jesus.
Ils vinrent donc trouver Philippe, qui était de Bethsaïda en Galilée, et lui demandèrent: « Seigneur, nous voulons voir Jésus. »
22 Philip goeth and telleth Andrew; Andrew and Philip go and tell Jesus.
Philippe vint le dire à André; et André vint à son tour avec Philippe, et ils le dirent à Jésus.
23 But Jesus answereth them, saying, The hour hath come that the Son of man should be glorified.
Jésus leur répondit: « Le temps est venu où le Fils de l'homme sera glorifié.
24 Truly, truly do I say to you, Unless a grain of wheat fall into the ground and die, itself abideth alone; but if it die, it beareth much fruit.
Je vous le dis en vérité, si le grain de blé ne tombe en terre et ne meurt, il reste seul. Mais s'il meurt, il porte beaucoup de fruit.
25 He that loveth his life loseth it; and he that hateth his life in this world will keep it unto everlasting life. (aiōnios g166)
Celui qui aime sa vie la perdra. Celui qui hait sa vie dans ce monde la gardera pour la vie éternelle. (aiōnios g166)
26 If any one be a servant to me, let him follow me; and where I am, there also will my servant be; if any one serve me, the Father will honor him.
Si quelqu'un me sert, qu'il me suive. Là où je suis, là aussi sera mon serviteur. Si quelqu'un me sert, le Père l'honorera.
27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour! But for this cause I came to this hour.
« Maintenant mon âme est troublée. Que dirai-je? « Père, sauve-moi de ce temps »? Mais c'est pour cette cause que je suis arrivé à ce moment.
28 Father, glorify thy name! Then came there a voice from heaven: Yea, I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.
Père, glorifie ton nom! » Alors une voix sortit du ciel, disant: « Je l'ai glorifié et je le glorifierai encore. »
29 The multitude therefore that stood by, hearing this, said that it thundered. Others said, An angel hath spoken to him.
C'est pourquoi la foule qui se tenait là et qui l'entendait disait que c'était un tonnerre. D'autres disaient: « Un ange lui a parlé. »
30 Jesus answered and said, This voice hath come not for my sake, but for yours.
Jésus répondit: « Cette voix n'est pas venue à cause de moi, mais à cause de vous.
31 Now is the judgment of this world; now will the prince of this world be cast out;
Maintenant, c'est le jugement de ce monde. Maintenant, le prince de ce monde sera chassé.
32 and I, if I be lifted up from the earth, shall draw all men to me.
Et moi, si je suis élevé de la terre, j'attirerai à moi tous les peuples. »
33 This he said, signifying what kind of death he was to die.
Mais il disait cela en indiquant par quel genre de mort il devait mourir.
34 The multitude therefore answered him, We have heard out of the Law that the Christ abideth for ever; how then dost thou say that the Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man? (aiōn g165)
La foule lui répondit: « Nous avons appris par la loi que le Christ demeure éternellement. Comment dis-tu: « Il faut que le Fils de l'homme soit élevé »? Qui est ce Fils de l'homme? » (aiōn g165)
35 Jesus therefore said to them, Yet a little while is the light among you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness may not overtake you; and he that walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
Jésus leur dit donc: « La lumière est encore pour un peu de temps avec vous. Marchez pendant que vous avez la lumière, afin que les ténèbres ne vous surprennent pas. Celui qui marche dans les ténèbres ne sait pas où il va.
36 While ye have the light, believe in the light, that ye may become sons of light. These things spoke Jesus, and went away, and hid himself from them.
Pendant que vous avez la lumière, croyez en la lumière, afin de devenir des enfants de lumière. » Jésus dit ces choses, puis il s'en alla et se cacha d'eux.
37 But though he had wrought so many signs before them, they did not believe in him;
Mais, bien qu'il eût fait devant eux tant de miracles, ils ne crurent pas en lui,
38 that what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, “Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
afin que s'accomplît la parole qu'Ésaïe, le prophète, avait prononcée: « Seigneur, qui a cru à notre rapport? A qui le bras du Seigneur a-t-il été révélé? »
39 For this cause they could not believe, because Isaiah said again,
C'est pour cela qu'ils ne pouvaient pas croire, car Ésaïe a encore dit:
40 “He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; lest they should see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn from their ways, and I should heal them.”
« Il a aveuglé leurs yeux et il a endurci leur cœur, de peur qu'ils ne voient avec leurs yeux, et perçoivent avec leur cœur, et tournerait, et je les guérirais. »
41 These things said Isaiah, because he saw his glory, and spoke of him.
Ésaïe a dit ces choses en voyant sa gloire, et il a parlé de lui.
42 Yet even of the rulers many believed in him; but on account of the Pharisees they did not acknowledge him, lest they should be put of the synagogue;
Cependant, beaucoup de chefs croyaient en lui; mais, à cause des pharisiens, ils ne le confessaient pas, afin de ne pas être exclus de la synagogue,
43 for they loved the glory that is of men more than the glory that is of God.
car ils aimaient mieux les louanges des hommes que celles de Dieu.
44 But Jesus cried aloud, and said, He that believeth in me, believeth not in me, but in him that sent me;
Jésus s'écria: « Celui qui croit en moi ne croit pas en moi, mais en celui qui m'a envoyé.
45 and he that beholdeth me, beholdeth him that sent me.
Celui qui me voit voit celui qui m'a envoyé.
46 I have come a light into the world, that whoever believeth in me may not remain in the darkness.
Je suis venu comme une lumière dans le monde, afin que quiconque croit en moi ne demeure pas dans les ténèbres.
47 And if any one hear my words, and keep them not, I do not judge him; for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
Si quelqu'un écoute mes paroles et ne croit pas, je ne le juge pas. Car je suis venu non pas pour juger le monde, mais pour sauver le monde.
48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him; the word that I have spoken, that will judge him in the last day.
Celui qui me rejette, et qui ne reçoit pas mes paroles, a quelqu'un qui le juge. La parole que j'ai prononcée le jugera au dernier jour.
49 Because I have not spoken from myself; but the Father who sent me hath himself committed to me what I should say, and what I should speak;
Car je n'ai pas parlé de moi-même, mais le Père qui m'a envoyé m'a donné un commandement, celui de savoir ce que je dois dire et ce que je dois dire.
