John 12
1 Jesus, therefore, six days before the passover, came to Bethany, where Lazarus was, whom Jesus raised from the dead.
নিস্তারপর্বের ছয় দিন আগে যীশু বেথানিতে উপস্থিত হলেন। যীশু যাকে মৃতলোক থেকে উত্থাপিত করেছিলেন, সেই লাসারের বাড়ি সেখানে ছিল।
2 They made therefore a supper for him there, and Martha served; but Lazarus was one of those who reclined at the table with him.
সেখানে যীশুর সম্মানে এক ভোজসভার আয়োজন করা হয়েছিল। মার্থা পরিবেশন করছিলেন, আর লাসার ভোজের আসনে হেলান দিয়ে অনেকের সঙ্গে যীশুর কাছে বসেছিলেন।
3 Then Mary, taking a pound of ointment of pure spikenard, very costly, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.
তখন মরিয়ম আধলিটার বিশুদ্ধ বহুমূল্য জটামাংসীর সুগন্ধি তেল নিয়ে যীশুর চরণে ঢেলে দিলেন এবং তাঁর চুল দিয়ে তাঁর পা-দুখানি মুছিয়ে দিলেন। তেলের সুগন্ধে সেই ঘর ভরে গেল।
4 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, he who was about to betray him, saith,
কিন্তু তাঁর এক শিষ্য যিহূদা ইষ্কারিয়োৎ, যে পরবর্তীকালে তাঁর সঙ্গে বিশ্বাসঘাতকতা করেছিল, আপত্তি করল,
5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred denaries, and given to the poor?
“এই সুগন্ধিদ্রব্য বিক্রি করে সেই অর্থ দরিদ্রদের দেওয়া হল না কেন? এর মূল্য তো এক বছরের বেতনের সমান!”
6 And this he said, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and kept the purse, and bore what was put therein.
দরিদ্রদের জন্য চিন্তা ছিল বলে যে সে একথা বলেছিল, তা নয়; প্রকৃতপক্ষে সে ছিল চোর। টাকার থলি তার কাছে থাকায়, সেই অর্থ থেকে সে নিজের স্বার্থসিদ্ধি করত।
7 Then said Jesus, Let her alone, that she may keep it until the day of my burial.
যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “ওকে ছেড়ে দাও। আমার সমাধি দিনের জন্য সে এই সুগন্ধিদ্রব্য বাঁচিয়ে রেখেছিল।
8 For the poor ye have always with you, but me ye have not always.
তোমরা তো তোমাদের মধ্যে দরিদ্রদের সবসময়ই পাবে, কিন্তু আমাকে তোমরা সবসময় পাবে না।”
9 The great multitude of the Jews therefore knew that he was there; and they came, not only on account of Jesus, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he raised from the dead.
ইতিমধ্যে ইহুদি সমাজের অনেক লোক যীশু সেখানে আছেন জানতে পেরে, শুধু যীশুকে নয়, লাসারকেও দেখতে এল, যাঁকে যীশু মৃত্যু থেকে উত্থাপিত করেছিলেন।
10 But the priests consulted together that they might put Lazarus also to death;
প্রধান যাজকেরা তখন লাসারকেও হত্যা করার পরিকল্পনা করল,
11 because on his account many of the Jews were going away, and believing in Jesus.
কারণ তাঁর জন্য অনেক ইহুদি যীশুর কাছে যাচ্ছিল এবং তাঁকে বিশ্বাস করছিল।
12 On the next day, a great multitude that had come to the feast, hearing that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
পর্বের জন্য যে বিস্তর লোকের সমাগম ঘটেছিল, পরদিন তারা শুনতে পেল যে, যীশু জেরুশালেমের পথে এগিয়ে চলেছেন।
13 took branches of palm-trees, and went forth to meet him, crying aloud, Hosanna! blessed is he who cometh in the name of the Lord, even the king of Israel!
তারা খেজুর গাছের ডাল নিয়ে তাঁর সঙ্গে দেখা করতে গেল, আর উচ্চকণ্ঠে বলতে লাগল, “হোশান্না!” “প্রভুর নামে যিনি আসছেন, তিনি ধন্য!” “ধন্য ইস্রায়েলের সেই রাজাধিরাজ!”
14 And Jesus, having found a young ass, sat thereon, as it is written,
তখন একটি গর্দভশাবক দেখতে পেয়ে যীশু তার উপরে বসলেন, যেমন শাস্ত্রে লেখা আছে,
15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion! lo! thy king cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.”
“হে সিয়োন-কন্যা, তুমি ভীত হোয়ো না, দেখো, তোমার রাজাধিরাজ আসছেন, গর্দভশাবকে চড়ে আসছেন।”
16 These things his disciples did not understand at the first; but when Jesus had been glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things to him.
তাঁর শিষ্যেরা প্রথমে এ সমস্ত বুঝতে পারেননি। যীশু মহিমান্বিত হওয়ার পর তাঁরা উপলব্ধি করেছিলেন যে, যীশুর সম্পর্কে শাস্ত্রে উল্লিখিত ঘটনা অনুসারেই তাঁরা তাঁর প্রতি এরূপ আচরণ করেছেন।
17 The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead bore witness.
যীশু লাসারকে সমাধি থেকে ডেকে মৃত্যু থেকে উত্থাপিত করার সময় যে সকল লোক তাঁর সঙ্গে ছিল, তারা এসব কথা প্রচার করে চলেছিল।
18 For this cause also the multitude met him, because they had heard that he had wrought, this sign.
বহু মানুষ যীশুর করা এই চিহ্নকাজের কথা শুনে তাঁর সঙ্গে সাক্ষাৎ করতে গেল।
19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Ye see that ye effect nothing; o! the world hath gone after him.
তাই ফরিশীরা পরস্পর বলাবলি করল, “দেখো, আমরা কিছুই করতে পারছি না। চেয়ে দেখো, সমস্ত জগৎ কেমন তাঁর পিছনে ছুটে চলেছে!”
20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast.
পর্বের সময় যারা উপাসনা করতে গিয়েছিল, তাদের মধ্যে কয়েকজন গ্রিক ছিল।
21 These came therefore to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, we wish to see Jesus.
তারা গালীলের বেথসৈদার অধিবাসী ফিলিপের কাছে এসে নিবেদন করল, “মহাশয়, আমরা যীশুকে দেখতে চাই!”
22 Philip goeth and telleth Andrew; Andrew and Philip go and tell Jesus.
ফিলিপ আন্দ্রিয়র কাছে বলতে গেলেন। আন্দ্রিয় ও ফিলিপ গিয়ে সেকথা যীশুকে জানালেন।
23 But Jesus answereth them, saying, The hour hath come that the Son of man should be glorified.
কিন্তু যীশু তাদের বললেন, “মনুষ্যপুত্রের মহিমান্বিত হওয়ার মুহূর্ত এসে পড়েছে।
24 Truly, truly do I say to you, Unless a grain of wheat fall into the ground and die, itself abideth alone; but if it die, it beareth much fruit.
আমি তোমাদের সত্যি বলছি, গমের দানা যদি মাটিতে পড়ে না মরে, তবে তা শুধু একটি বীজ হয়েই থাকে। কিন্তু যদি মরে, তাহলে বহু বীজের উৎপন্ন হয়।
25 He that loveth his life loseth it; and he that hateth his life in this world will keep it unto everlasting life. (aiōnios g166)
যে মানুষ নিজের প্রাণকে ভালোবাসে, সে তা হারাবে; কিন্তু এ জগতে যে নিজের প্রাণকে ঘৃণা করে, সে অনন্ত জীবনের জন্য তা রক্ষা করবে। (aiōnios g166)
26 If any one be a servant to me, let him follow me; and where I am, there also will my servant be; if any one serve me, the Father will honor him.
যে আমার সেবা করতে চায়, তাকে অবশ্যই আমার অনুগামী হতে হবে, যেন আমি যেখানে থাকব, আমার সেবকও সেখানে থাকে। যে আমার সেবা করবে, আমার পিতা তাকে সমাদর করবেন।
27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour! But for this cause I came to this hour.
“আমার হৃদয় এখন উৎকণ্ঠায় ভরে উঠেছে? আমি কি বলব, ‘পিতা এই মুহূর্ত থেকে তুমি আমাকে রক্ষা করো?’ না! সেজন্যই তো আমি এই মুহূর্ত পর্যন্ত এসেছি।
28 Father, glorify thy name! Then came there a voice from heaven: Yea, I have glorified it, and will glorify it again.
পিতা, তোমার নাম মহিমান্বিত করো।” তখন স্বর্গ থেকে এক বাণী উপস্থিত হল, “আমি তা মহিমান্বিত করেছি এবং আবার মহিমান্বিত করব।”
29 The multitude therefore that stood by, hearing this, said that it thundered. Others said, An angel hath spoken to him.
উপস্থিত সকলে সেই বাণী শুনে বলল, “এ বজ্রের ধ্বনি!” অন্যেরা বলল, “কোনো স্বর্গদূত এঁর সঙ্গে কথা বললেন।”
30 Jesus answered and said, This voice hath come not for my sake, but for yours.
যীশু বললেন, “এই বাণী ছিল তোমাদের উপকারের জন্য, আমার জন্য নয়।
31 Now is the judgment of this world; now will the prince of this world be cast out;
এখন এ জগতের বিচারের সময়। এ জগতের অধিপতিকে এখন তাড়িয়ে দেওয়া হবে।
32 and I, if I be lifted up from the earth, shall draw all men to me.
কিন্তু, যখন আমি পৃথিবী থেকে আকাশে উত্তোলিত হব, তখন সব মানুষকে আমার দিকে আকর্ষণ করব।”
33 This he said, signifying what kind of death he was to die.
তিনি কীভাবে মৃত্যুবরণ করবেন, তা বোঝাবার জন্য তিনি একথা বললেন।
34 The multitude therefore answered him, We have heard out of the Law that the Christ abideth for ever; how then dost thou say that the Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of man? (aiōn g165)
লোকেরা বলে উঠল, “আমরা বিধানশাস্ত্র থেকে শুনেছি যে, খ্রীষ্ট চিরকাল থাকবেন। তাহলে আপনি কী করে বলতে পারেন, ‘মনুষ্যপুত্রকে অবশ্যই উত্তোলিত হতে হবে?’ এই ‘মনুষ্যপুত্র’ কে?” (aiōn g165)
35 Jesus therefore said to them, Yet a little while is the light among you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness may not overtake you; and he that walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
তখন যীশু তাদের বললেন, “আর অল্পকালমাত্র জ্যোতি তোমাদের মধ্যে আছেন। অন্ধকার তোমাদের গ্রাস করার আগেই জ্যোতির প্রভায় তোমরা পথ চলো। যে অন্ধকারে পথ চলে, সে জানে না, কোথায় চলেছে।
36 While ye have the light, believe in the light, that ye may become sons of light. These things spoke Jesus, and went away, and hid himself from them.
তোমরা যতক্ষণ জ্যোতির সহচর্যে আছ, তোমরা সেই জ্যোতির উপরেই বিশ্বাস রেখো, যেন তোমরাও জ্যোতির সন্তান হতে পারো।” কথা বলা শেষ করে যীশু সেখান থেকে চলে গেলেন এবং তাদের কাছ থেকে লুকিয়ে রইলেন।
37 But though he had wrought so many signs before them, they did not believe in him;
যীশু ইহুদিদের সামনে এই সমস্ত চিহ্নকাজ সম্পাদন করলেন। তবুও তারা তাঁকে বিশ্বাস করল না।
38 that what was spoken by Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, “Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
ভাববাদী যিশাইয়ের বাণী এভাবেই সম্পূর্ণ হল: “প্রভু, আমাদের দেওয়া সংবাদ কে বিশ্বাস করেছে? কার কাছেই বা প্রভুর পরাক্রম প্রকাশিত হয়েছে?”
39 For this cause they could not believe, because Isaiah said again,
এই কারণেই তারা বিশ্বাস করতে পারেনি, যেমন যিশাইয় অন্যত্র বলেছেন:
40 “He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; lest they should see with their eyes, and understand with their heart, and turn from their ways, and I should heal them.”
“তিনি তাদের চক্ষু দৃষ্টিহীন করেছেন, তাদের হৃদয়কে কঠিন করেছেন। তাই তারা নয়নে দেখতে পায় না, হৃদয়ে উপলব্ধি করে না, অথবা ফিরে আসে না—যেন আমি তাদের সুস্থ করি।”
41 These things said Isaiah, because he saw his glory, and spoke of him.
যিশাইয় একথা বলেছিলেন, কারণ তিনি যীশুর মহিমা দর্শন করেছিলেন ও তাঁরই কথা বলেছিলেন।
42 Yet even of the rulers many believed in him; but on account of the Pharisees they did not acknowledge him, lest they should be put of the synagogue;
তবু, সেই একই সময়ে, নেতাদের মধ্যেও অনেকেই তাঁকে বিশ্বাস করেছিল। কিন্তু ফরিশীদের ভয়ে তারা তাদের বিশ্বাসের কথা স্বীকার করতে পারল না, কারণ আশঙ্কা ছিল যে সমাজভবন থেকে তাদের তাড়িয়ে দেওয়া হতে পারে;
43 for they loved the glory that is of men more than the glory that is of God.
কেননা ঈশ্বরের প্রশংসার চেয়ে তারা মানুষের কাছ থেকে প্রশংসা পেতে বেশি ভালোবাসতো।
44 But Jesus cried aloud, and said, He that believeth in me, believeth not in me, but in him that sent me;
যীশু তখন উচ্চকণ্ঠে বললেন, “কোনো মানুষ যখন আমাকে বিশ্বাস করে তখন সে শুধু আমাকেই নয়, যিনি আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন তাঁকেও বিশ্বাস করে।
45 and he that beholdeth me, beholdeth him that sent me.
আমাকে দেখলে সে তাঁকেই দেখে, যিনি আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন।
46 I have come a light into the world, that whoever believeth in me may not remain in the darkness.
এ জগতে আমি জ্যোতিরূপে এসেছি, যেন আমাকে যে বিশ্বাস করে, সে আর অন্ধকারে না থাকে।
47 And if any one hear my words, and keep them not, I do not judge him; for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world.
“যে আমার বাণী শুনেও তা পালন করে না, আমি তার বিচার করি না। কারণ আমি জগতের বিচার করতে আসিনি, আমি এসেছি জগৎকে উদ্ধার করতে।
48 He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him; the word that I have spoken, that will judge him in the last day.
যে আমাকে প্রত্যাখ্যান করে এবং আমার বাক্য গ্রহণ করে না, তার জন্য এক বিচারক আছেন। আমার বলা বাক্যই শেষের দিনে তাকে দোষী সাব্যস্ত করবে।
49 Because I have not spoken from myself; but the Father who sent me hath himself committed to me what I should say, and what I should speak;
কারণ আমি নিজের ইচ্ছানুসারে বাক্য প্রকাশ করিনি, কিন্তু যিনি আমাকে পাঠিয়েছেন, আমার সেই পিতাই, কী বলতে হবে বা কেমনভাবে বলতে হবে, আমাকে তার নির্দেশ দিয়েছেন।
